My 5cents as an electronics technician/electronics designer: * When reattaching self tapping screws to plastic, always rotate the screw slowly anti clockwise until you feel that screw to drop back to its original threads and then, with veeery little force try to turn it clock wise and see if it'll seat back to it's original thread (it should), if you dont' do this, you can mess up the threads by creating new ones. * When cleaning electronics, you want to avoid nylon brushes and microfibre cloths, they easily create static electricity and that can zap the components and break them or cause intermittent faults that can be hard to fix or trace down. Use normal kitchen towel paper and ESD safe brushes that one can find from ebay with few dollars. * Be very, VERY careful with the laser and the laser head mechanics and the motor. The laser head ways need to be lubricated after cleaning with proper lube (type of which I can't remember from the top of my head, but it's not very lean, it's more like thin grease than liquid meant for plastics). the laser lens itself should never see any alcohol or other solvents unless you're sure there are no plastic parts within that mechanism (which there usually is). Isopropyl alcohol attacks some plastics quite aggressively. Motor assembly shouldn't see any alcohol or other solvents (no, not even water) since the mechanism will lose the lubrication and it'll break prematurely and it's horribly difficult to lubricate... can be done but it's not easiest thing to take apart :D * Be careful with any remaining solvents on the boards, they can start to ingress moisture over time or attack plastics and rubber components. Thus isopropyl alcohol is recommended since it'll evaporate very quickly and thoroughly.
Great info. What's the best case scenario for cleaning the jog wheels and the top of a Pioneer Xdj Rx 3 DJ controller? Some of the plastic is shiny polished like and some not.

Should’ve put them into diagnostic mode to test all the buttons and functions. Hold memory and tempo +3/6/10 when powering on, then scroll through menu with back/tag button. I’m sure you already knew this, but just in case 🙃
du Bb I’ve only been able to test it on cdj-2000 models. Regular, Nexus & NXS2. Not sure about 900 or any other model. I’m assuming there is some kind of button combination to get into a menu similar
Used to clean units that were smoke and fire damaged. A commercial dishwasher does wonders on most of the parts for the pre wash step. Do not use the dry cycle as the heat can damage plastic. Air dry with the alcohol only on the PCB's. Some silkscreen is damaged by the solvent. Odor permeates plastic so this does not apply to the dust, but Smoke X removes smoke odor.
I had to do this to a 2000NXS that had been soaked in beer! That stuff gets to places you wouldn't believe! 2 hours later it was spotless and running! A tip for engineers - I Never buy cans of spray air, instead I use a large airbed pump with a long pipe! £20 and lasts for years. I Really enjoyed thgis video, it's always good to see new tips and tricks explained so clearly. Bravo!
Slinky Trips lol, so youd prefer to risk vacuuming a screw or something important? Whenever you decide to use the vacuum method, let me know how it goes.
I took two CDJ-900NXS and a Xone:92 mixer to Spain from California in a pelican air case (no charge for weight or size) as a checked back through 4 airports and there and back. No issues.
I have been building custom guitars since the 1980s. When we began using CNC machines, the wood dust was just killing em.... What worked great was to run a low pressure (25 - 35psi) regulated filtered through desiccant air line from the shops air compressor .. basically it was like a little clear hose like paramedics use with a oxygen mask.. Dust simply can NOT enter due to being slightly pressurized, or more like, dust cant swim up stream... I'm sure you would have to drill a small hole to feed the air... Same goes for your rack... You can run K&N off road filters in front of the rack fans, but also push compressed air into each rack unit ... The dust in the wood mill might not be micro rocks, but it's like peas & carrots with static, LOL!... And honestly, I don't know how anyone can even think of being at that place without a compressor to blow your face , your hair, hat & clothes, 8 track tapes, etc. Oh, and you can charge money to put the hose in your shoes , omg it feels good, LOL!.. Hope this
I know your probably joking but it can be hard to juggle ones job or jobs, video/editing and most important family and maintain a steady upload to youtube.
lol, no shit. you gotta be some kind obsessive nutbar to pay that. I'm assuming hes pulling prices from pioneer directly which are ludicrously high. They quoted me $40 for a $5 relay and i needed 14 of them...
Well it's a little difficult to get the injection molded plastic parts from anywhere other than pioneer lol. I get all my tact switches directly from electronics component suppliers/wholesalers.
Yup.. why we refuse to rent any of our gear headed to burning man. That dust is the consistency of flour. Sent audio and lighting consoles and the cleaning ended up costing more than the rental. Grand MA 2 console was DOA
hi chris, you think is it worth or ok to clean or sprayed using contact cleaner (or else) the PlayCue and Headphone Cue buttons before deciding to replace it? sometimes those are stuck. second thing is: My DJM Right channel signal on master are leaked all across 4 channels. all LEDs (meters, cues, color fx) are blinked when the balance set to center. But it’s normal when its set all the way left. need your technical advise 🙏🏻

Hello, how are you? How do I clean the video cable from the LCD display of the CDJ 2000 Nexus? The display sometimes shows up dots getting dark. I hate you if you can help me.
I've just stumbled onto your video and ran into a problem a few years ago with my old CDJ-800. I removed the dust and wiped it with the wrong kind of wipe (Lysol Citrus type) and now the edge of the plastic platter has reacted to it in a way that even years later I can't clean it again. A thin layer of the plastic turned into a soft goo like sticky tar and it picks up lint now. I've tried letting it sit for a long time to see if it would dry and harden up, but it seems to have chemically reacted to the plastic, but only on the outer rim of the platter where the indentations are for nudging. I've considered covering that area with painters tape or something since it's so tacky I can't really enjoy using it and it leaves black marks on my hands. I'm guessing the only option would be to replace the platter with a used one and avoid that type of cleaning wipe.
Dude i Love your videos especially your tutorials i've taken so much from them. Because of those videos I was invited to a 2000 guest party to do the lighting (btw I am 16)
Nice vid! We clean them with the same method when dealing with dust. If they come back sticky from liquids we use Multifoam just spraying it on the cdj let it do its job for 1 minute and then take it of with a soft towel. And respect for you (even with cdj’s from someone else) to send them to Burning Man!
Damn... looks like my big drumset after having it in my welding shop for 5bish yrs. The set was worse... welding gringing soot. Plus dust from 365 days of ridung 4wheelers and jeeps around the building. Damn
Your amazing. I cant believe you cleaned them. WOW. I still have clothes with dust from burning man 4 years ago. DO you have any videos where you fix USB port?

Hey Christian, any advice on repairing a cdj2000nxs2. I bought one secondhand, which seemed to be in perfect condition. But when using it at home, I found out that the cdj doesn’t react when pressing the “back”button (upper right side) so I’m kinda dissapointed... At the moment, I’m disassembling the cdj, and at first sight, I see some dried up liquid-stains on some boards. Could cleaning the dried up liquid-stains result in a fixed cdj? Or do you think the liquid really damaged the cdj?
Haha somehow I don't think i'd want to be renting mine out to an event like burning man. I have done a few day festivals but nothing in that sort of environment. Since you seem to be really experienced with servicing these, I wonder if you might know how to fix a loose jog wheel tensioner? One I can feel is nice and clicking like original and it works just fine, the other I can barely feel the clicks in the adjustment and try and set it to tight then it loosens when I start turning the jog wheel.
i literally just said to myself yesterday that i needed to check if you had posted a video recently, as I hadn;t gotten a notification in what seemed like forever!

Normal rent is like 50$ per day, normal rate for a technican is like 20$ per hour, he said four hours per CDJ, repair pieces for the cue/play are like 25$ each, 20$ on top for cleaning materials per piece. Burning Man lasted around week, so I would estimate 500$ per piece or 2000$ for all four.
So I have a faulty cdj 2000 nexus 2 screen and wondering could anyone help… If i select quick search and whilst typing artists name etc on the cdj and try to type letters x c v b s d f g it just comes up as if i pressed the letter “e”any suggestions?

Add some led lights and you're golden. Of course this is all just a guess, until I try it... Way to show the reality of cleanup though! See you at the burn:)
