I guess I'm one of the ridiculous ones! I took that shit off years ago, I've got big arms, no issues palm steering my flaming River 15:1 manual rack in my coupe! My car new was a "stripper coupe", no a/c, no power windows, etc.. I still have the original parts if I ever wanted to put the power steering back, but there's no way in hell that shit is going back on!! Cheers Gary!
Hi Gary. Installing a bump steer kit, another great opportunity to use your Certified Parallel Engineering degree. Seriously, a VERY informative video. I've never pulled a rack out, but it looks like the pain in the butt I've always thought it is. Thanks for another terrific video.
At work listening to the podcast with Brother Tom and just wanted to say thank you for doing what you're doing! I'm a 49 year old car guy (GM) guy lol and bought my 88 Notch like 4 months ago and I am hooked thanks to guys like you and Chris. I want to know everything there is too know about Fox body's. My wife loves Mustangs and I always hated them except for Notches and now I think I'm driving her insane with UA-cam videos and LMR boxes showing up everyday. Interior is completely stripped out of "Her Car" 🤣🤣🤣
Same guy put those rack bolts in backwards did that pulley. I’ve installed 01 Cobra racks on my Capris. With the MM hybrid steering shaft it’s a stealth upgrade to the steering system.
I found a tip on getting a superfluous amount of assist from the steering pump tamed down a bit, but haven't pulled the plug in doing it yet as I didn't want to go to the manual rack. Before I do it, I will have a replacement spring in case it doesn't suite me. The modification I'd to shorten the relief spring to 1 7/16 " with the cut end heated and re-flattened. Maybe someone's done this already and has the results.
I’m over here trying to resist the urge to remove my power steering and then I put my power steering pulley wheel back on and it isn’t going on all the way. If a 1990's Lamborghini Diablo and Dodge viper don't need power steering, then this 90's Mustang doesn't need it either😅… plus the engine bay would look so much less cluttered, I’d gain 0.5 hp and save 15.2 lbs. 😂 but seriously… I have to battle these thoughts while working on the car. I showed great discipline and kept the heater core😊. But I did remove the ABS system😖.
@@KASLCustoms I rewired the ENTIRE car with zero problems. Brand new intake manifold leaks and the power steering pulley will not go on all of the way and I have stripped two bolts and rethreaded it twice. I cried myself to sleep last night. I’m checking if the manifold is covered under warranty, otherwise I’ll have to buy another one and I’m buying a new ps pump. It’s always the nonsense shit. I’d rewire the car again to not have to deal with this nonsense. Lol the fun never ends!! 😂 🤑😢
I bought a steering shaft with the plan to eliminate the rag joint. It looks just like the one you have on the table there. The guy I bought it from told me it was for power but its got the small female splined section. Can you give me a link to where you got the female section for the power rack? I'll just swap the smaller one out. I plan to put in a new rack in the Spring as well, no working on the Fox in these Kelowna Canada winters, eh? Great video as usual Gary, thanks!
Hey buddy! Sorry if I miss led you - both manual and power intermediate shafts have the female splined section however the manual spline is smaller then the power one. Also, I’m unaware of anyone that sells just the splined section. Unfortunately you have to buy a whole new intermediate shaft…
Another great video Gary, if i was doing the job, plenty of cussing, a cutting wheel, 32 oz.hammer because the rabbit hole would be the size of a bear. Really like your rig to tighten the steering shaft way up in there, that some good engineering. Always enjoyable, Thanks bud.
Never ceases to amaze me at people taking off factory part and putting on absolute garbage aftermarket stuff, like that hot air sucker for intake air,the factory one was far superior to that junk
I have an 89 Sport LX with a stock airbox, K&N filter with a hosed ram air system intake under the front bumper, just don't drive through a flooded road like a dumbass . Under hood open air filters are shit .
Im looking $2000 to replace my power steering and A/C because someone decided to build a "race car" how ever indint find the steering that bad and it keeps the wife from wanting to drive it.
My 94 had manual steering I liked it better in every situation other than parallel parking. That was literally the only time I didn't like it more. It feels much better actually on the road driving.
Who were these people swapping in manual steering, and pulling AC systems off? Gotta laugh at things people used to do to try and gain a tenth in the quarter lol.
Manual steering feels way better when driving the only time it really sucks is parallel parking. As for ac I wouldn't get rid of that but many times it didn't work anyways so people would ditch it.

Hahahaha! That’s awesome.

hahahahahahaha yessir! I had my one eye closed and horizontal thumb measuring device out yet again! 😂

Hahahaha that’s awesome buddy. And thank you for the kind words. Welcome to the foxbody family 🦊💚

Yes you're probably right. Nice, I've never tried that combo out
That’s a little different set up than the 99-04 mustangs.. My rag joint to spline is a square attachment, which does make it easier to center..
Interesting

I agree this is one of the worst modifications people do to a car other than swapping your car over to manual brakes instead of hydroboost when needed
lol that’s another I’m not fond of either
Can't say that is the worst mod just depends what your intentions are. Worst mod is putting Fram oil filter on it lol
Great info. Need to do this on my 89 GT

Great content and the OUT of The BOX thinker makes what is available at the time work and complete the job ! 🇺🇸🇵🇷🦊👍
Yessir! Thx buddy!!
Foxbody sn95 s197 s550 racks are so easy to do and the power steering with pressure and return line.
Great video Brother! I need this one tremendously! 💯👊🏾
Thx buddy!

LOL!!! Thanks so much buddy!
Ksl does somthing I do opposite..
Twr manual rack in more power for me about 2hp wooooow.
But now I can skip the gym and get beefy forearms.
😂
😎
👊
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t do several mods I’m embarrassed of now.
😂👊

@midnight347 my biggest issue is getting in and out of my garage, which requires a 20 point turn.
LOL!!! Yeah parts aint cheap any more buddy...

Agreed my friend!
Should have left it as it was.

Is this sarcasm? No? You probably still have the stock airbox silencer on yours 😂
