The drag specifically went first on them both. I though maybe he got a junk one because his went first, but mine went just a couple weeks after. That gave me a bad taste for dc reels and I will never buy another one. Now diawa is growing on me, I just wish their reels were a bit smaller and more comfortable to palm.

    My first baitcaster was an abu Garcia from Walmart that I still use to this day. As long as you have it setup properly, you shouldn't get any bird nests. I can cast without using my thumb and I get no bird nests. I regularly clean and oil all my reels. The only bird nest I get is when I get caught on a branch when casting. And even the nastiest bird nest can be fixed on the spot as long as you have a little bit of patience.

    • @TexasAndyAquatics
      @TexasAndyAquatics Місяць тому

      @@mherrera619haha no worries bud every one of us has the same problem learning to use a bait caster reel. If you specifically have a DC ( Digitally controlled) reel it's not difficult to cast without " thumbing it". But DC bait career reels are pretty expensive. The Shimano SLX DC i think I'd the cheapest around$200 but for 50 bucks more you can get the Shimano CURADO DC which ( in my personal opinion and experience) is a better all around reel. But for 99% of bait casting reels you have to set the spool brake( knob on the same side as your handle) each time you change baits. You want to hold the rod at a45 degree angle while standing and be able to click the button and have the lure slowly drop all the way to the ground without causing a birds best/back lash. Also every time you cast you have to learn to " thumb the spool" meaning when you cast it you ALWAYS keep your thumb in contact with the spool as the lure flies into the lake. It's not like the classic zebco push button, you actually have to manually control the speed that you're line is being casted at with your thumb. Id recommend a spinning reel for beginners then once you get used to using that and accurately casting then jump over to a bait casting reel. TRUST ME BUDDY EVERYONE gets backlash when they learn to use a bait caster. Heck to this day I throw a nasty birds nest every once in a while. Just like any other sort/hobby there are learning curves but there is no better felling than that first perfect cast exactly where you wanted it to be and a big ole bass smacks it! Good luck to y'all, patience is a better but also great to hear a man going with his son out doors. Sadly this is happening less and less so keep up the positivity so he stays interested and go get y'all some memory's y'all never forget.

    Literally the best sound ever, Bait Casters got a whole new meaning when I heard the DC series for the first time, definitely want to buy one of these badly.
    P.S. EXCELLENT job on that backlash! I know this was all just for shits & giggles, but damn for just whipping that line out there, that couldn’t have produced a “better” backlash…. lol. I mean seriously, whenever I forget to set my locks on the outside & inside on my dual locking Baitcaster, I always forget to put my thumb on the line some to make sure as it’s about to hit the water I don’t give myself a big birds nest. Well mine don’t end up nice & pretty like yours did here lol. Mine are like jaded, knotted up so badly I can barely get a 1/4 turn in my line before I’m just winched down so tightly I can’t move it anymore 😅.
    But again, awesome DC, I’m super jealous. I want one for sure. 👍🏽

I can do that with my Tutuila and honestly they’re taking the skill of a open face spinning rod bait casters are good. I love them but I’ve been on the water call numbers filled bags and I’ve never use the bait caster now I only use bait casters for three things top water jig and spinning blades chatter baits that’s it
