LYRICS:
The devil is dead
I have never felt the way that I have until I left the valley in flames
Let it burn, let it die, blind the all-seeing eye
But I know smoke will never clear in hell
The smell of burning oak makes me sick
Still, I breathe deep
Still, I cross to the other side
But I hear a voice behind me say
I (the eye closed its final time as I had walked through the flames)
WILL (the will of a beast is nothing compared to the will of a god)
FIND (I’ll find my peace when the bones of the devil lay at my feet)
YOU (you and I are one, mark my words, I will find you)
A beast will always smell the blood of a coward
And a narrow-minded fool will always follow down the narrow path
To the blade that can make a god bleed
Still, you are weak
You’re just a boy with his mother’s eyes
That carries the weight of his father’s heart
I always feel like there’s something that I’ve left behind
It’s not a possession or any acceptance of life, it’s me
What is the point of running away when you don’t know who you are
I’ll always be one step behind until you realize who I am

Are you guys turning a new leaf? Going christian?
@@squaredcircle1111 where did I say it was??
@@squaredcircle1111 no I never implied anything. It was a question, Christian's being one example of "turning a new leaf". That doesn't imply that I think spirituality is equal to being Christian. Just one possibility.
@@squaredcircle1111 okay so I guess I somewhat implied it was Christian but that does not mean I implied that spirituality is equal to religion
Me and my wife were peacefully having a picnic when we saw visibly angry phil bozeman in his natural habitat walking towards us and screaming something about devil
10 out of 10, will visit this park again
Update:
I hope i managed to deliver some giggles guys, have a blessed day.
I just love them forest metal videos
If only you'd have shared a sandwich or two 💁♂
This comment is everything.
This comment made my day. Thanks for the good morning laugh and grin!
💀 he's actually calm in person
That's funny if that actually happened having picnic here Phil in the distance lol
After all these years listening to Whitechapel I am still impressed how good you can understand Phils vocals. What a beast of a singer!
@@gordonwhitehouse3353 Boze is literally one ofthe founders of the group. The hell are you talking about?
@@gordonwhitehouse3353 u serious bro? People change and Phil always evolved his style with every single album. Still unmistakable. Guess he just a little medical procedure to close the lobes, who knows.
@@gordonwhitehouse3353 he’s had them stitched up, pretty common procedure for people who take their plugs out.
My Bad he looks and sounds completely different lmao 😂
@Gordon Whitehouse that's what happens after 16 years lol.
I'm a 53 old metalhead, and people that are fixed with the "back in my days" attitude, won't be able to appreciate the high quality modern metal we are blessed with.
47 myself and I love the progression and continuation of the music. I've listened to these guys on and off for a while but this song had my blood pounding. So good
I'm 70 and love finding new metal bands.
Try out kublai khan tx if you haven't they're great and this is coming from a 21 yr old metal head the new generation of metal is definitely evolving into a great improvement of older metal when you aren't stuck listening to radio rock
@@donotinquire ATM i'm in a Black Metal mood and so i'm looking at bands as Kanonenfieber, but i'll certainly take a shot at them, tnx
Roger that!
45 year old metal head and I've never let myself fall into the "elitism" that is unfortunately common with metal heads.
One of my all time favorite bands is Disturbed, lots of "real" metal heads would ridicule this and tell me that is not real metal.
I take the Kriss Kristofferson approach to this.
When he was asked "What makes a song a country song?"
His response was along the lines of "Well, if it sounds like country, its country."
Those clean vocals are amazing.
What a band.

Final lyrics from The Valley: "The Devil is alive"
First words on Kin: "THE DEVIL IS DEAD"
Seriously, when heard this... Fucking masterpiece! Hands down.
I love continuations across ablums
Wha wha whaaaaa?
God is shit
The devil is... inside us all... but not everyone got this growling right.
One of the most epic album openers I've ever heard, this song is legendary.
its alright
I completely agree. This song is awesome
It's how I start my morning commute. 🤘🏾 at 5am!
As an old guy and past metalhead aggressively discovering this new world of metal over the past 20 years, I have to admit that this album is a great introduction to the richness of what metal has become. This album and, in particular, song is a great welcome back!
I'm 46 and been back on board myself. Another band I've been liking it Mass Worship. Worth checking out 🤘
The last 20 years of metal have been absolutely insane in terms of how much the genre has changed and evolved. Whether you like the more radio-friendly metalcore sound, the mind bending prog stuff, or the super heavy shit, now is an amazing time to be a metalhead. We're eating very good. Some other big bands of the last 20 years you might have missed out on are Bullet for my Valentine, Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive, Shadow of Intent, Spiritbox, Lorna, Bring me the Horizon, Trivium, Fit for an Autopsy, Gojira, and Architects just to name a few favorites.
🤘😎 glad to have you back
I'm a 54 year old metalhead and love this band.
I’ve been listening to metal again for a couple years. Can’t believe I ever stopped. So much incredible stuff out
Starting with "the devil is dead" after the last album ended with chants of "the devil is alive" is such a fantastic way to set you up for this album. Absolutely incredible
There isn't a bad song on this album and this song is one of my favorites!
So what are you trying to say?
@@ijustlovemetal he is saying that this song is one of his favorite.
Absolutely bro this album is a masterpiece
Mark my words, I will find…this video…2 days from now.
Edit: for those wondering, I commented this 2 days before the premiere.
Agreed this sounds kick ass. 3 more hours.
I, the brown eye 👁 closed its final time as I have...consti-pation
Good luck 👍
@Maximino Blas Will, the will of feces, is nothing compared - to the will of my farts.
Two days? More like two minutes!
Phil has some of the most crisp and clear harsh vocals in metal today, but I also love that on the last couple albums he's been able to showcase how incredible his clean singing voice is. He goes from raging hellbeast to sorrowful angelic vocals so very well, I can't get enough. Not to mention the musicianship of the rest of the guys, this whole album shows how incredibly talented they are at both performing and writing amazing music. Let's all hope for many more years and albums from all of them.
Is that Phil? I don't see any gauge holes 0.o
@@sariph5897 He had them stitched up/closed
I'm happy for them and all their new-found success now that they're more radio-friendly.
IMO though, now that Phil has a much better control of his vocals, it would be nice for them to release another heavy album. Something more like their stuff pre-"Mark of the Blade".
It seems as bands evolve, they lose a lot of their old fans to swap for new fans who are into the changes/evolution.
Almost 20 years ago, you'd never be able to imagine Whitechapel going clean vocals/acoustic stuff, they were just so incredibly heavy.
They're a completely different band now though. A lot of people are into it, and that's awesome, I'm not trying to bash them. I'm stoked they're doing so well. They were my favourite band since "Somatic Defilement", but they started losing my interest with "Our Endless War".
I'm just personally not into it, and haven't been able to find a good song by them (that I like) since the "Recorrupted" era, like 10 years ago.
Nowadays they remind me of The Devil Wears Prada, but less heavy.
@@shootembadguys5688 I can understand losing interest when they are moving away from the sound you initially enjoyed from them, here's hoping their next album is more to your taste. I have a major soft spot for vocalists known for their harsh vocals that can also do good cleans, like Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth/Bloodbath, Nergal of Behemoth/Me and that Man and obviously Phil as well.
@@TheWarriorXander I like a good singing voice as well.
I don't hate on Whitechapel for their "new found" successes. I just think it would be better suited to a side-project or spin-off type deal.
I hope they have long, fulfilling careers doing what they love. I just hate that I can't seem to enjoy it compared to what I grew to love growing up.
Old-school Whitechapel was my "outlet" growing up, and they feel like a completely different band now.
Also, cheers for not being a dick and automatically going into some kind of over-defensive mode like most people when you dislike something they do lol
You can see Phils journey of life in his lyrics. Once an enraged man finding himself through struggle and pulling himself away from the beast inside.
All songs in this album deserves a video. This concept really fits like they would merge into a movie or something.
i beg for a history is silent clip
I absolutely adore the direction they took since THE VALLEY
Yeah, man. It’s so cool to see how much they’ve transformed, but how they still remain true to “Whitechapel”. This Is Exile and the self-titled are amongst my favorite albums, but The Valley and Kin are just so mature and such a natural progression of their sound; easily one of the most emotionally-driven bands I’ve ever heard
Phil Bozeman's enunciation is like no other in this genre. Major fucking props for how clean his vocals are, I get goosebumps even just listening to the first few lines.
This is honestly one of the most well put together metal song I ever heard crisp sound Bozeman voice is insane very talented music
True southern metal band with the instrumental intro keep killing it
Holy crap, I have listened to this song so many times. but this time I read the lyrics along. "You’re just a boy with his mother’s eyes,
That carries the weight of his father’s heart" I have never related so deeply to a lyric in my life. That really puts it in perspective for me.
How crazy is music. That part to me is so cringe personally, but the fact that it hit someone so deep just shows how amazing we all are as humans. Respect bro.
@ashnaybro you must be young. Things hit harder as you age.
@@mikehunt4797I’m 32 and haven’t had an easy life. Both my parents are already gone. It’s just cringe lyrics with barely any thought behind it. That’s just my opinion though. The fact that others find meaning in it isn’t an issue - it’s just an interesting observation
Damn never thought I’d be seeing Phil Bozeman in a corpse paint
Well it’s pretty metal 🤷♀️
@@dhrjrj not really since Whitechapel doesn't sound like a metal band now. They have turned more like progressive rock. Although corpse paint is predominant with black metal Kiss did it way back. I will be surprised if Whitechapel goes black metal influenced on this
@@Prathik62 Corpse paint along with that pattern seems very black metal. The new direction does feel prog rock but the vocals go hard. I love that. I do wish they go back to making purely heavy music. Or maybe minimal clean vocals like in The Valley which I really enjoyed.
@@Prathik62 They are prog but they're still metal. Damn, listen to those riffs and that growling

Listen to Kin. Front to back, please. That was an unmatchable experience for me.
Listen to the album Kin , then the Valley!
Been listening to Kin on loop since. Its fantastic!!! TY guys!
Listen to the album
Okay fine, I'll listen to The Valley and Kin back to back for the 50th time again😂

You and me both
This has become one of my favorite albums of all time. And this video might be one of my favorites ever made. Absolutely perfect
I don't have words to describe what Whitechapel means to me. Especially Phil, you've been a massive inspiration for me, a big teacher and the songs being my emotional support.
This was a hell of a well written metal song both musically and lyrically. WoW, I was blown away!
At first I was thinking Cradle of Filth when I first saw that thumbnail LOL 😂
Finally...this song deserved a video clip...PURE EPICNESS
This is Whitechapel-tier Whitechapel 🔥🤟🏽🔥
Much love from Nigeria's metal underground 🤍⛧
for a few years now i feel that white chapel has become the pantera of modern metal. they have diversified, expanded there sound, there emotion, there brutality, there storytelling to a point where i feel that they deserve a seat at the table of greatest of our time. these last 3 albums have been nothing but superb, and this new song is beauitful. well done
Don't insult Whitechapel like that.
What they’re doing now is garbage
@@Nall412 It's still better than anything Pantera has ever done. And if you hate cleans, you'd better get used to them and quick. Cleans will be taking over Deathcore. Soon it will be nothing but Melodic Blackened Deathcore.
I dont care what people think of this album. I love it. I have since it released and itll never change. From somatic defilement to now. I can truly appreciate phils singing and his lyrics. Anyone who invested their own personal heart into their lyrics always shows their true emotion and it serves a stronger purpose; versus singing about butchering a woman and sowing her shut aka vicer exciser etc
True legends of deathcore, I absolutely love the direction they took with KIN 🤘
I wouldn't call this deathcore. It's melodic death metal and I LOVE it
@M. Swaiti666 this particular song, yes. But the band are traditionally deathcore. They definitely took a different approach with KIN and I love them all the more for it
1000 frickin percent
@@MoSweiti666🤦♂️
As much as I love the first 3 albums, all staples of deathcore imo, this is something different I agree. I think these guys are currently at their creative peak. And I love it.
This song hit me so hard emotionally It finally got me sober after a decade of true darkness. 🤘🏼
And after all these years, i still get chills watching whitechapel videos. If I’m lucky ill get to see them for the first time these year. Whitechapel is iconic
One of my favorites songs from this album. Glad to see a video on it 🖤
This is such an amazing song. Whitechapel is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Phil can still dominate a sick vocal after all this year ❤❤❤
HOW DID I MISS THIS?! So glad this song got a MV.
i showed this to a co worker and now i got him hooked 😂😂😂
They’ve come so damn far. I remember searching up videos on UA-cam back in 2008 looking for the house shows they would do now they are one of the biggest bands in metal and have marked them on the metal scene as one of the pillars of it. Nothing but the absolute highest respect and love for whitechapel.
Like a record to my own childhood, similar but different but darkly darkly similar. Thank you Phil for sharing on the last two records big time! Huge fan of the whole team! Can’t wait to see this, I imagine the make up you have own was once how I wanted to be and real as a child enduring physical and mental abuse daily for 18 years. You kind of feel something like the character you might be portraying. I’m 33 now but have listening to you guys as a source of fuel and rage and release in many a gym work out THANK YOU 🤘🏼🇺🇸⚔️🐺
The song takes on even more meaning with the video. Another masterpiece.
Exactly!
It is conversation between God devil and man? Im not sure BC my english isnt good enough to translate this song word by word and still keeping the meaning of the verses
I’m a 42 year old who just discovered Whitechapel and I swear for a week they’re about all I have played. Also I’m pretty proud that they’re from my area in TN. So it goes to show not everything sucks here.
The transitions between him now and him as a kid, the makeup, the traumatic lyrics and the solos and riffs.. Amazing work
bro, the evolution of this band is amazing! Phil is the GOAT😈
Been listening to Whitechapel for quite a few years .... This song is absolutely awesome in every sense. Great harsh and clean vocals, lyrics, musical talent on every instrument with excellent song structure and build. I'm not an expert I just like great music. This is god-level metal. I'm SO happy that I found this song.
Been listening to these guys for 15 years and still impressed how legible Phil's vocals are while still being so heavy. Gotta love these dudes.
One of their best to date. Kin is a masterpiece
Kin is my favorite album of any band ever. There may be more popular albums, there may be better albums according to most people. But this album resonates with me in a way that no other has.
this band is just getting better and better.
It's always make want to re-vist the valley into the woods
“The will of a beast is nothing compared to the will of a god”
That’s hard asf
Holy crab! There're many demons as well as gods, or do you mean
the universal mind of quantum cosmic space called the one god?🤔
"You’re just a boy with his mother’s eyes
That carries the weight of his father’s heart"
FUUUUUU..... i felt that line
Mr. Bozeman just gets better with age. fuck yeah i needed this today!
💞 you have to understand and learn from real truth✨this is how boys become men and girls become women🤍🖤
Ngl lie that line made me tear up a bit
This has to be the ultimate Whitechapel video because it just feels so much like them-not sure how you could ever top it. Additionally, it’s just mind-boggling how these guys level up every time
This is pure power, and taking control. Listen to it again. And then again. Peace at it's finest....
