I've been watching many DIY builds for these, and love the simplicity of yours - especially the vertical pieces with the angled cut...brilliant, and so easy!
I was literally just thinking about how handy a TelePrompTer would be but no idea how they even worked. You are amazing!! Thanks so much, this is totally doable.
Teleprompter helped me a ton especially when I started using the PPT Mirror tool function that converts Powerpoint slides into teleprompter software.. it is a great way that helps to look & sound natural in front of camera than using word-for-word script.
I love this guy! He is working alone in his studio so he Created A Virtual demo of how the Teleprompter works... wow. Amazing. Incredible video by the way! Thanks for saving us a HUGE chunk of change!
Thanks so much Mark. I actually shot this whole episode in a different location many months ago but I really wasn't happy with that version. I'm glad I redid it with the 3D walk-through.
Thank you for the great video., Collin. I experienced the advantage and huge benefit of using a Teleprompter and PPT Mirror software: I speak more freely and, of course, ‘‘get my messages across’’ in self -produced videos. I display my PowerPoint in reverse or flip it and put my tablet in the teleprompter and advance the slides with remote, simple, and easy to use. Which leads my videos to more naturalness and assist me in delivering professional narration.
That's great to hear Kendrick. I appreciate that you care enough to work harder to produce quality videos. So many users just chop up poor performances into jarring videos.
Thanks! Yes I created the 3D animation using MAXON Cinema 4D. I created the model of the teleprompter pieces and imported the rest. The guy was created using Adobe Fuse and his position was animated using Mixamo. Fuse is part of the Creative Cloud subscription and there's a button to send to Mixamo right in it.
Colin. Thank you for making this and your other videos. They rock! In this one, how is it that the reflection isn't also captured into the camera video you are recording through the back of the teleprompter/camera?
I think it's because reflections are directly connected to the angle of light. If you look at anything reflecting around you, and you move your position, you'll notice the reflection changes too. So at a 45 degree angle, the light passes through the glass and hits the lens. If you moved the glass on a different angle, you'd eventually see the words in the lens. Make sense?
Thanks, that was illuminating! I'm trying to figure out what to do with my iMac (with external mounted webcam). For the first time, via your video, I see how it's SUPPOSED to work in general terms at least.
I see some people suggesting I paint the thing black? I think it’s not necessary since the wood in itself can absorb ambient light perfectly fine. What’s your thoughts on this ?

Interesting as ever. Just one question: Why is it that you seem to be getting clear non-ghosted text even with your standard glass and not beamsplitter glass?
Colin, your videos have help get me through a lot of challenges. How can I get more information about the material you used to mount the box and camera? It appears that there are other pieces than the base and 15mm rails.
Thank you so much for the information!! I made my teleprompter using clear glass from a hardware store. The letters are blurry. Would the tint help with tgat? If not what do you think would be the culprit? Thanks again!!
What you're calling blurry might just be the second reflection on the second side of the glass. My glass was very thin so the second image is close. If you've used thicker glass, that would be the problem. Applying the tint at an auto tinting service would definitely help.
Hi, Collin Smith Thank you for the review...very informative Would you worry to use powerpoint presentation slides in a teleprompter using an iPad with ppt-mirror.com tool and bluetooth pedal page flip to switch the slides?
I made a teleprompter using a piece of window glass but I get a double reflection; it seems like the ipad image is reflecting off of the front surface of the glass AND the back surface too.Yours doesn't seem to do that. I can't figure out why.
That's just the way it is when you don't use proper teleprompter glass. Most people aren't bothered by that, like me. Like I said, you can take the glass to a car shop and they can apply a treatment to reduce that problem.
Dollar stores are a great resource. Simple is best. How do you align your eyes or place the camera to appear to viewers like you're looking at them in the video? I stare at the lens while I record and the video looks like I'm not looking at the viewer. Thanks
Hi, I have a question. Iˇve just created my own handmade teleprompter, bud there is a problem with double reflection on my glass surface. Do I need any special glass or what is the reason of the double reflection? Thanks for your advice. :O>)
The reflection is caused by how thick the glass is. I used cheap, thin glass so it's not as noticeable. The only option is to take your glass to an automobile shop where they offer tinted window service.
It's just a picture frame, which you can pickup anywhere. The reflection shows when it's set at the right angle. If you're talking about my comment on window treatment, just search for "window tinting" in your area and you'll find a car shop that does that.
@@VideoRevealed I've got same problem. I have 2'way mirror - it's some sort of lil bit dark glass - and it's really good tto read, but it's darker on the footage. I think with window tinting will be the same problem. Have you got any solution for this? I can't find answer on my question - Did you window tinting on that Teleprompter? Because your glass seems ok.
you have to have one that can open up completely with the keyboard tucked underneath like his does...the hinges need to allow the keyboard to be tucked all the way under. Otherwise, you'd have to leave it open flat and have a much larger (longer) support base. My laptop doesn't open up like that.
If you don't need it as a laptop anymore, I'm sure you can modify, or remove, the hinges. It might not fold neatly, but there's got to be a way to do it.
Refreshing to see someone actually make something these days. Thanks for sharing.

You are a legend. This is awesome and even easier/cheaper with an HD webcam and desk (no tripod or camera needed).

This is so great. This episode is different and I love it. Thanks for the excellent tips. :) I’ll see you next week.
Thanks a lot Tom.
fantastic idea well done and thank you
wow thanks you saved me spending loads on Amazon !!!!
That's great to hear.
Great sir 👌 a lots of love from India♥️🙏
Great breakdown and explanation
Glad you liked it.
A cheap picture frame. Brilliant!!
Yes, just be careful, I've nearly smashed that glass several times.
Thank you very much for helping us to make own cheap Teleprompter and we love it !!!

Hello, Congratulations. 👍 Cool. 👏👏👏 Smart
Interesting as ever. Just one question: Why is it that you seem to be getting clear non-ghosted text even with your standard glass and not beamsplitter glass?
Probably because the glass was really cheap, thin glass.
Colin, your videos have help get me through a lot of challenges. How can I get more information about the material you used to mount the box and camera? It appears that there are other pieces than the base and 15mm rails.
Many of that hardware has been discontinued. This company has some great choices: www.camvate.com/
Loved the laugh track.
Thanks. 😜

You probably should change your camera or stare at something else around the camera that will give you the desired result.

Do you have a video on how to edit video to beat of music or can you make one if you don't have a video on that
Yes I do have a video on that and here it is: ua-cam.com/video/4M543MHhzcg/v-deo.html
Just a quickie, what size board and picture frame did you use?
The outside frame dimensions are 14.750 X 11.750 inches. I think it was made for an 11 X 9 picture.
The board is slightly larger than 9 X 13.

Yes, anything with a screen will work.

your amazing, and so clever to work it out, I want one....yoo hoo as i yell out to hubby lol (Donna)
Thanks and tell your hubby to get to work building one for you. 😀
When I made mine there is some double vision
Yes, that's what happens with regular glass. The only way to get around that is to have one side treated at a car shop.
love it
Thanks.
Thanks
You're welcome.
That’s awesome. Now I need to figure out using an old 7lb laptop that doesn’t fold back.
Or find a dirt cheap android tablet on eBay. :)
If you don't need it as a laptop anymore, I'm sure you can modify, or remove, the hinges. It might not fold neatly, but there's got to be a way to do it.
Good idea too.
Great tutorial but if you use a laptop you need to make the base much bigger.
Yes you do, so you'd need a larger piece of wood and more support to hold everything. I am using a small laptop in my example by the way.
Fake audience laughter track... extra points!
thanks a lot, u saved me some 200dollars
