Hammersmith - Daybreak

- The heavy metal/rock group Hammersmith formed in the early '70s, members coming together from the death of other groups like Painter and Shades of Blond. Hammersmith's lineup included lead singer Dorn Beattie, bassist Royden Morice, guitarist Dan Lowe, drummer Bob Ego, and a confusing mixture of other artists, who might or might not have been official members.
Hammersmith recorded its self-titled debut album in 1974 and released it under the Mercury Records label. Two years later there was a sophomore recording, It's for You. That second album was the last for Hammersmith as in 1977 the band lost its contract with Mercury. The loss proved to be a catastrophic blow for the gathering. After the formal disbanding, most of the members stayed in the music world, simply moving on to other groups.
Some of the tunes by the group are "Under the Sea," "Be a Star," "When I Was Young," "Dancin' Fools," and "Hello, It's for You."
My uncle Dale played on the album "It's for you" in '75 and toured with Kiss. I grew up listening to both albums, and is one of the most inspiring things to my drumming.

These guys became “Painter.” Check out “Goin’ Down the Road,” another KSHE classic!

These guys used to play a lot in Southern Alberta. High school dances, stuff like that. I never missed a show. Sooooooo GOOD!
I also saw them more times than I can remember. Always a stellar show. They opened for Procol Harum at the Big 4. 10 minutes into Harum's set the place was all but empty.
This is so great to hear made me pull out the whole vinyl and enjoy again !
Liked Hammersmith right off back in the past, still like them now !
Sure brings back the memories! One of my other Faves on album.

I'm hearing this song for the first time, to discover that this song is a "self-remake". They originally did it as Painter in 1970. You can listen to the
45 on my channel. Also discover more from 49th Parallel, Shades of Blond and other Canadian gems... Have fun and feel free to comment or suggest other gems.

In 1976,when I was 14,I was,for maybe a year or so,a KISS fan----I grew bored with most of their stuff rather quickly----largely based on the ALIVE! lp,still the only one of theirs I own. The big news that spring, where I live,Halifax,NS,CANADA,was that KISS were coming. I took a slightly younger brother with me to the still old Halifax Forum. We ended up standing at the top of the building. I don't remember much of it anymore. Bits and pieces. The fire, the sirens, the blood spitting, the fire eating,Frehley's guitar smoking. The sound was terrible,as it usually was in that place. I remember seeing KISS posters for sale. Our tickets were five-fifty each. And I remember HAMMERSMITH and their singer and their lead guitarist in shades. I think they were from Vancouver? Actually,I remember more than I thought I had. lol.
I remember this vividly, winter 1976.
