How is my mic simultaneously peaking and also inaudible
I have no affiliation to Metanet Software other than thinking they are cool.
Thanks so much for this video!
I just wanted to provide some context on the handheld versions of N+: in order to support ourselves while we were making N+ XBLA, we licensed the handheld rights to Atari. Unfortunately, despite promises to the contrary, the developer didn't listen to our input/feedback, and as a result they are (in our opinion) inferior versions that don't feel right.
Originally we weren't supposed to work on them at all, however once we saw how terrible the levels were, we realized that we'd have to make all of the levels ourselves or else fans would be really disappointed... this tripled our level design workload and was incredibly stressful.
Anyway, our games aren't for everyone and tend to fly under the radar, so it's nice to be reminded that there are still plenty of people out there who appreciate them.
Yo the man, the myth! Hope you don't think I edited you too dirty.
I was curious about the handheld games because they never came up in the talks. Did they just kinda make you guys creative leads, or just more of as consultants and do their own thing? The way those games turned out it really feels like they kinda just to the ball and ran with it.
@@skippy7552 No worries, actually I had completely forgotten about that talk. :) I don't remember what our official position was; we were supposed to consult with the developer regularly, but after our first few visits we realized that they weren't listening at all to any of our feedback (because they didn't have to, since it wasn't really in the contract). We just didn't have any leverage or control over the direction they took, aside from making replacement levels! To be fair even N+ XBLA doesn't feel perfect, but that's more a function of lack of time. This was one of the reasons we really wanted to make N++, so that we could finally get it right. :)
@@raiganburns8154 Have you thought of making an armv7/arm64 port by any chance?
Your games actually are for everyone - back when I was in school EVERY computer had N loaded on it somewhere in the background whether it was lunchtime in the library or 0900 in business class. I've spent hundreds of hours in N, (I loved the DDA levels), and the only reason I haven't done the same in N++ is because I simply didn't know it existed.
See if you can get some streamers to play your game. VTubers are great for that.
Thank you for making such a perfect game.
“Did you wanna add something?”
“Uhhh… no”
Is peak game developer
instead of being awkward it turn into cute
theres a moment in that GDC talk a little bit before thats really good, someone in the crowd talks about being stuck on a level for 5 hours and he gets a big evil smile on his face
@@skippy7552 Sometimes you have your true evil self coming out and the best you can do to contain it is smile like that.

aw geez man, tysm ^^

polish? Bóbr kurwa! :P
Sounded like English to me 🤔
Seconded, this review was as _smooth_ as the controls of the game reviewed.
Funnily enough, the original N flash game is the one I played the most out of all these, perfect for school computers
Love how the opening feels like an old adult swim games ad
lmao the imagine the midnight N++ bump
no idea why the youtube algorithm decided to recommend me this but im so happy it did. This video is so well made dude keep it up
we're so back! glad you enjoyed ^.^
bro i got a notification for this it was so random
I’m also really glad to have this recommended to me, used to play the original back in the days, but totally didn’t know they made such a refined sequel in 2016-2017 😊
also happy it showed up in my feed! instant sub
Welcome to the good side 1:07
DUUUUDE I USED TO PLAY N+ ON MY XBOX 360 I HAD NO IDEA THIS GAME EXISTED BEFORE NOW
AND IT’S ON STEAM???
The original N is one of the only "hard" games I've ever had the patience to complete, multiple times. Used to play it in the dorms with a buddy, who sadly passed away from a brain tumor a few years later. Thank you for bringing back some memories. I should really get N++
So ++ is a programming symbol for "increment," which implies that N++ is the same game but refined. I grew up on N and playing it was achieving nirvana. Playing N++ on the Switch (and PC) is even more transcendent. I can get lost in it for hours.
Also, I've got laid with this soundtrack on so many times I lost count. 11/10
this a +3 comment lmaoooo
Does this mean the sequel is going to be called N#
Excellent @@TotallyURGrandpa
This is the tetris of platformers
that should've been the thesis line, ah damn
I've run N++ for a few speedrunning marathons over the last few years, and there seem to be two types of reactions to me telling people what game I run.
1) "I haven't heard of N++. What is that?"
2) "Oh damn, N++ is one of the best games I've ever played"
So happy to see someone doing it justice on youtube nearly a decade after it released
the 2 categories of people lol
glad you enjoyed :)
I used to play N+, the demo back in 2014 for Xbox Arcade and sometimes played co-op N with my buddies at school. Happy to hear somebody else talking about a childhood game that barely anybody knows in my life.
XBLA demos shaped a huge chunk of my taste in games, glad theres a kindred spirit out there
I played that demo in 6th grade sleepovers more than I've played some full games
co-op somehow wasnt mentioned in this whole video
I clicked thinking this was a programming video and I left with an amazing platformer to grind on
Actually getting N++ because of this video, amazingly done ❤️
Hell yeah and thank you! glhf
THIS IS TOO GOOD FOR A CHANNEL WITH 330 SUBSCRIBERS
you're too kind ^^ glad you enjoyed
@@skippy7552 Came to say this and then subscribe!
As someone who has been playing N, N+, and N++ since all the way back in 2006, you did an absolutely AMAZING job with this video! Someone posted it in the N++ discord server and I've since passed it on to several other communities that only know of N++ through me really. Hopefully it will bring an even greater appreciation to them!
man blows my mind how stuff spreads, yall are a bunch of cool cats over there.
thank you for your support ^^

Yeah...this game is a masterpiece.
Also btw for people that dont know, there is also coop and race levels.
I cut that part of the script because I don't know the game well enough to comment on it, it just felt like dead air. Also none of my friends wanted to play lol :,)
"The N Game" as I used to call it... was a huge part of my 5th grade existence, along with Line Rider (I tend to merge the two together into similar simplistic experiences). I also got N+ on the DS and N++ on the Switch as well. All great games in the same series. I appreciate the iterations and their additions.
Good to see that after literally two decades this banger series is still highly appreciated.
N++ is killer, I remember my buddy and I used to play it back in the DAY in 2010 in college algebra 😂😂
I actually learned how to make my first physics engine from their publications. Awesome dev team!
Not only did you convince me to revisit the joy & pain the N series brought me, but the music you used in this video also had me digging out some old MP3 players I had, and listened to some old chiptunes I haven't heard since the 8Bitcollective was still thriving.
So thank you for that.
Anytime dude, tracker music is rad as hell. I'm shocked how unknown those guys are, most people just know The Follin Brothers stuff
Popped into my algorithm when I was eating lunch, 10/10 experience. Great food video, keep it up man
tyty, hope you had a good lunch
Dude you just unlocked some memories. I used to play N back in the golden Flash days and I didn't even know it. And to see how far it has all come, nice!
Real nice video, that punch from the N+ main menu music at 4:42 was such a huge hit of nostalgia. I've never forgotten about this series, and I'm always happy to see it getting repped, especially since the devs are still around in its circles and commenting and talking about stuff and sharing info. Thanks for making this
ohhhh my god n+ on like xbox 360 arcade was one of my favorite games growing up 😭😭😭
The Minceraft at 12:13 is a nice easter egg
LMAO you can't hide anything anymore
ggwp
The loved the original N so much when I was in school, and I was hyped to find N++ on the Switch. Then when I was playing I started recognizing the music artists like Lorn.
It's one of my favorite games on my Switch. My kid and I play co-op together until a lack of skill devolves into deliberately dying in absurd ways and competing for who can die fastest.
One seemingly small but incredibly important choice the developers made for N++ is to keep every level on one screen, without any scrolling or zooming. It really helps me keep the entire layout of the map and the positions of all the enemies in my head, and fits with the game's zen style.
At first I really missed the camera zoom from n+ but I agree, everything is sized just right
I was a fan of N back in the Flash days. Definitely one of my Top 5. I would hurt my tiny fingers from pressing the keyboard arrows so hard lol. I had no idea there was a N++, will definitely check it out (hopefully with a controller this time, my fingers deserve a break)
Dude I just put this game down after 3500 hours, and now this video's going to drag me right back in 😂 awesome vid
Holy hell this is a tight video... I bought N++ on sale from a recommendation by a friend, definitely putting it higher on my list now
I played this a lot as a kid, good memories. Thanks for the video, I had no idea how much it has to offer, didn't know the history or that it has a community.
Dude I love this game and it's amazing to see someone highlighting it like this. I remember playing the original N as a kid and the feeling of finding N++ on the steam store a decade later. Great video!
I loved every second of this. Really creative and fun to watch. Thanks so much for making this video with such care, especially including the brief history which I think is very interesting, (probably mainly since I played n and n+ too.)
And 11:10 is extremely relatable 😂
I used to play N all the time on school computers as a kid. I never knew they made an N+ let alone an N++! Since I found this video, (today) Ive spent hours playing. Thank you for such a cool video.
As someone who has been playing any form of N since around 2006, I just wanted to say this video is fantastic!! Within my time play playing the original flash game, I was able to interact with some awesome community members and make some awesome memories from it.
I didn't start playing N++ until around mid 2019, but it sure had me in its clutches when I got back into it. I spent the majority of 2020 and 2021 highscoring and such, but I didn't get into it once I started going for 100% after meeting up IRL with golfkid (another community member who has been in it as long as me) for co-op in late 2021. Once I saw the progress we made, that's when I knew 100% was within my reach as I never thought it would be something I would achieve due to the amount of stuff required for it. It wasn't until June 2022 that I achieved it and now I look back on it feeling glad I've done it (plus the devs will send a nice certificate once you achieve it). Going for 100% really cemented this game series as one of my favorites and I'm happy to have been involved with the community. This game is more of a way to kill some time nowadays, but it is still a fun time for me (no matter how long I play for).
Finally, the part of the video where you're up late into the night really hits home for me. This happened multiple times to me when highscoring to get the top spot and even when I was going for 100% on some levels (especially some of the secrets/secret levels). Thank you for making this video as it sure did make me walk down memory lane!! :)
Thank for stopping in, I'm so glad this is getting out to the n veterans. Ya'll are the reeason the game has lasted this long, I hope one day to 100% myself but time is fleeting right.
Sorry for not reaching out to the community that much, you guys are some amazing people I'm coming to learn
Hi man, I'm Eddy, been playing the series for almost its entire history, and this is one of the most polished videos I've seen about the game. Are you on the community yet? As you know, we mostly hang in the Discord server since 2016. Terrific video btw, you summarized its 2 decade history very well, and showcased some of its main qualities. It's been doing the rounds in the community ;)
Mr MataGallos himself??? dude what an honor, thank you for watching ^^
the internet is wild, it's crazy to think how far things go when you send them out there
@@skippy7552 Haha thank you, hope to see you around ;)
Funny, the person who introduced this game to me with their DS on the bus in 2nd(ish) grade was named Edward.

oh hey one of my favorite games! oh hey one of my levels was shown! awesome :) thank you for highlighting this amazing game, ive been playing N since the childhood days and 2 years ago I've came back to play N++ and oh my goodness this game is so cool... but also so underrated. a video like this was bound to happen and im glad someone made it, cheers
happy to deliver, crazy to think n has been around longer than a lot of AAA franchises
Speaking as someone born in the early 90s, N is, to my mind, one of the icons of the golden age of Flash games. It's up there with Submachine as one of *the* games of that era, alongside Fancy Pants Adventure and Samorost.
"As a noise music fan", I love the term "this stuff is a mute button for the noise in your head" - that's perfectly put.
Vivid memories of playing N back in the day, but I never had any of the consoles for N+. This video is pushing me over the edge to pick it up on my Switch. Thanks!
I wish they we're able to put out N+ for other stuff but apparently there was some issue with microsoft. N++ is hella worth it, I hope you have the best time playing it!
this video rocked!!! so glad the algo is recommending smaller channels, this video has an INSANE level of polish!!!!! i guess that's fitting for the game it's about though! i played every single level in the n+ xbox 360 demo when i was younger, i still need to check out n++ at some point in my life
XBLA demos were a gift from god, N+ was one of the games I snuck into the living room at midnight to play.
also yeah the algorithm has been awesome this past year, I've found so much good music and channels
Just wanted to let you know, your video actually got me to buy the game, I don’t know how much the game’s style has assisted but the editing, delivery and script were great. Keep up the good work and good luck!
dude this vid is so well made, one of my fav games of all time. 100%ing this game was such a blast to do! also yea skylighter is absolutely crazy LOL
oh lord, honored that a decorated veteran would stop in. I hope to join the ranks one day. glad you enjoyed!
I loved playing the original flash as a kid, then got this for my ps5 recently and it brought back so much nostalgia, this game is the perfect example of less is more
Always loved N and N+ on XBLA, and this video is gorgeous! Also LOVE the viewer kit, doesn't have much in it but still worth it for those of us who want even more
It's so awesome to find a video that voices my thoughts on this game better than I ever could. Phenomenal work, mate.
Genuinely this is one of my favorite platformers of all time, iirc I first saw it as the original N from a NerdCubed video ages ago, then jumped on N++ the moment I realized it existed. Even if I am absolutely terrible at it N++ holds a very special place in my heart, one filled with toggle bombs and gold
this is so unbelievably well edited
Shared this video with a friend, by how well this video was made I was surprised to see you had just under a thousand subs! I'll be excited to watch any more videos you put out :)
I'm happy knowing that there are more people playing and commenting on N++ and the trilogy in general, these games are just *perfect*
Sometimes I think I'm the only Brazilian who actively plays ;-
Thank you for this video! I completely forgot about N+ , and at this stage in my life.. a good brain break game is needed. I definitely want to support this team, so I’m buying it! Great Video dude!
The kind of video this kind of game deserves, thank you metanet and skippy7552!
"N, 'the way of the ninja', is a highly advanced system of spiritual, cognitive, and physical training."
I always think the lore text was so cool.
"You're eventually going to hit a wall."
YUUUP. Mine was buying it on Switch and then seeing the menu and how much friggin' stuff there was to do. Ahhhh, analysis paralysis! Great video, my dude. Exquisite vibe-age.
“How is my mic simultaneously peaking and also inaudible” the definition of needs compression. Add a compressor, set to 4:1 with a fast ish attack release, set threshold so it’s nearly always engaged
also bonus content: use an EQ to pull out a lil gentle hill of 500hz until you like how it sounds
Oh man, I used to play the original N back in middle school. I'd pop open my little laptop and ask anyone in my class to play co-op on lunch break.
Great video, I'm gonna buy N++
ive seen the quality of your editing increase heavily, keep going man
Can't describe how much this comment means, I was trying to make a sfm for you but I couldn't figure out the program lmao

@@lookatdathead its all good! I dont want to take up your time, and I also dont have an idea of what I would want to make lol
I played N+ on the Xbox 360 as a kid and something about it just tickled my brain. The way the little dude ran around felt sooo good even to my little underdeveloped brain that thought Thrillville OTR was peak gaming. Plus I think the way your character dies and ragdolls might have been a factor in triggering my extreme physics game addiction
I remember playing this game as a flash game yearsss ago. Like what... more than a decade ago? To see a video on it in 2024 is insane. Even though it's really nostalgic, I had never won many levels. I just remember the game being stupid hard, which easily filtered me considering I did not have the patience for it back then lol. But I always liked the concept (and stick figures).
Oh wow, N+ was my childhood game. I had no Idea N++ was a thing - thanks for banishing the next few hundred hours of my life lol
Played 100% of the original and a good deal of N+. Nobody else seemed to know about them, so nobody understood my excitement when I saw the trailer for N++. Good to see I wasn't alone! Nice vid, man.
Wow... N in 2024... man that brings me back. I need to give this a swing
Best platformer for sure, and some of my favorite devs ever. I apparently was the first person from the EU to order some swag from the shop back when N++ was announced/released - I still have and cherish the handwritten note that they added to my order. 💜
aw man thats sick, I love when mail has a little bonus like that, makes it so sweet and personal
Awesome video! :D I liked some of the editing that made it feel like I was watching an N++ trailer from Metanet themselves (the intro (which was also cool with how your username appeared in the N++ logo style) and 6:26-6:34) as well!
Yoo N++, the game ever! I remember coming across the original N as a kitten and finding it too hard to do just about anything, then years later seeing N++ on Switch and realizing I recognized it from way back. So I bought it (on Steam though) and gave it a try, and I'm still not good, but better than 6-ish-year-old me could have dreamed.
There was a time when I played it incredibly often, including when I had downtime at school, but it's been a few years and I'm sure I've rusted up. I really ought to revisit it though, so I can de-rust and maybe clear a couple more episodes. Maybe this video will put me back on that N++ kick!
Yo just want to say I really enjoyed the video. Really engaging and very well presented. Please make more xx
The soundtrack is also one of the best of any game
Wicked impressive production quality and perfect script. Absolutely love vids like these
Found this game as kid when it was a flash game. forgot the name of it and could never find it for years. then found it when i got a bit older, this video just showed me there’s newer and better versions of the game. Awesome game and good memories with it
also, the song in the soundtrack Rival Consoles - recovery has been in my playlist by coincidence as of recent, small world.
Reminds me of Lode Runner during the Apple IIc days. I’m old but it and Captain Goodnight were my favorites when I was 5 or 6 years old. Still love its aesthetics and gameplay.
We had so many games on those 5.25 inch floppy discs. Lollipop Dragon, Chem Lab, Swash Buckler, Aztec…all kinds of shit. Drop them in, get your fix, get out and go play outside. It was great…
Damn, I almost forgot about joysticks altogether, such a different gameplay experience.
What a blast to the past. I was obsessed with N back in the day. The Newgrounds years of the Internet was a time where a kid didn't have to pan much to find gold
You know it's going to be a good talk when the lecturer has their laptop propped up on top of dominion boxes

Bro just randomly dropped the best video I've ever seen.
Thanks for making!
I remember in high school, a friend of mine gave me a flash drive with some games on it that included Halo 1 and N on it and I would just spend hours and hours playing N on the School's Library computers while I was waiting to get picked up.
Dude, I remember wasting so much hours on N as a kid. It was very different from the games available on those flash game sites like Y8, Newground, etc. I didn't know that they made TWO MORE SEQUELS??? I'm going to have to visit those sequels and the original N for nostalgia's sake. Thanks for the video!
Found N+ by chance on Andkon (I think? It's been a minute) and binged the shit out of it. A++ game, definitely lived up to the title of worlds best platformer. It knows exactly what it wants to do, executes it flawlessly, and then moonwalks off stage because it's just that good.
man ive not played this game in like 10 years and i can still identify levels.
"oh i remember that one. i was stuck on it for like 4 hours and wanted to throw my psp out the window. great level."
"hey its the level where i gave up on getting gold badges for every chapter"
what an excellent game
I haven't seen this game since my older cousin died in a car crash, she had it installed on her laptop and we always played together when I was little..N++ makes me happy to know it exists
I love N++, at 400 hours and not even halfway through the game. good to see the algorithm still seems to like it too :)
Dude this video is awesome, so happy youtube is also picking it up!
Also for anyone wondering theres co-op and race mode (unsure if its been said in the comments yet)
I remember playing the original n and being so impressed by it. Truly a gem! So timeless
fire video, really great work on this!
Great vid! I was never too into platformers but was aware of N and its releases and it always looked interesting. Your vid showed me it had way more to offer than I thought
Great vid!!! Thanks for bringing this memory back
I thought the whole 12 minutes was going to be like the first 30 seconds, and I was ready to watch it lol
I used to play a demo (or something of that sort) of N+ on Xbox 360 way back in the fay, and I relatively recently picked up N++ on Xbox One. It's quickly become one of my favorite games and, though I don't think it's my number 1 favorite, I DO think it's pretty much as close to perfect as a game can get. It all feels cohesive and intelligently designed, and the music selection is phenomenal.
what was the name of the game at 0:43 again? the one that says "you must only cast aside the sword..."
Heck yeah, I used to play n+ all the time in Xbox 360 and when one of those 3 songs came on during this video the nostalgia flooded over me.. definitely need to revisit this game series
Clicked on this because I thought it was about a programming language I'd never heard of, but a new game to check out is even better
Finally! Someone talking about N!
Give this game some love, it's absolutely one of the best platformers ever! It's movement system is unbeatable to this day!
i have to say, you bringing this updated game to my attention is doing me a huge fucking service dude. thank you
This video is a masterpiece. Great editing, great explaination. Good job!
thanks yo
When I was young, I would play n+ on my ds for hours just in the level editor putting random dangerous stuff all throughout the entire level and watch the player characters dead body get flung around the level, and then one day I saw a UA-cam video of some guys playing n++ and I was like “oh wait I remember this!” And then I got the game for my switch. Anyways I love n
Spot on vid. I will watch more of yours when I finish playing more n++.
God I loved this game, beating all 4000+ levels took hundreds of hours and it literally reached a point where, like you said in the video, I'd sit in stasis playing this game in the middle of night doing nothing but taking it all in. I think this is the game I played when I realized I actually do experience dissociation lmfao
