I live in Scotland where the weather is very unpredictable so essentials include warm and waterproof clothing and boots. Somehow here when it’s 2degrees and raining it feels colder than -5 and sunny!!!
cuddle dudz are a good under clothing thermal layer! and they're relatively affordable, i usually find mine at like marshalls or tj maxx. it gets to -60f/-51c here, that's helped a decent amount. BOG boots are really great too! especially if you wear in a muddy area like myself. they tolerate well with below freezing temps and don't slip very easy. yak traks are a good addition for boots if you need more grippy, they're the things you put over the bottom of your boots to add traction.
Let me just say, I am SO GLAD this video was made because I am so tired of winter essential videos done by people who live in LA dominating youtube. This is WAY more helpful!
When she said showing ankles I lol'd I cannot imagine exposing any skin but a small strip around my eyes when we have a blizzard 😆 Great video as usual. She uses a lot of the same essentials as me except for the thermal tops. I rather go with short sleeves, cardigan/zip hoodie and coat then a skin tight top that I'll sweat through when I'm indoors.
Or Florida. I was watching a video about winter fashion by two middle aged women and they were dressed for 50-60° weather. Then I learned in the comments that they were in Florida. Those videos ought to come with a warning label.
As another Canadian, I’d also add tube neck scarves…no wrapping, Wind breaker pants with felt lining, definitely all natural fabrics, layer with air pockets in mind, forget knit mittens go for duvet filled, yes you want the hood fluffy part x10, slushy duck type boots for wet weather, uggs for very cold days very sturdy get thick thick rubber soles, fanny pack type purse, chapstick, sunglasses… I love Canadian winters! ❄️ I go for a walk every day through the forests and lakes, good list!!!! Thank you 🙏 P.S no jeans if getting wet. 😊
As a fellow Canadian I would agree entirely with your list, but add one more item: a thin down vest to layer underneath your wool coat to make it a bit warmer (when you eventually get sick of your parka). I would never be without one. Stay warm!! From Ottawa- where it's even colder!! 🥶
I live in Germany and we still have "real" winters with snow, ice and cold wind even though they aren't as harsh like 15 years ago. People who are used to californian weather would still freeze. Everytime I see a "winter" lookbook and the person is just wearing a thin sweater with destroied jeans, I'm wondering how they would react to a real winter weather.
Something to mention here (even tho this video isn’t new), is that the indicated degree that a brand indicates the piece can withstand, doesn’t indicate you’ll be toasty when out in that temperature. It indicates that the piece will keep you alive in that temperature! I recently learned that when I went camping at the end of Fall, close to winter. My sleep bag indicated 10 degrees (F) and that night was about 17 degrees but I couldn’t fall asleep because I was so cold! Searching more about that phenomenon the next day, I came to learn you’re supposed to look for a sleeping bag that is rated 10-15 degrees warmer than the expected weather outside, if that makes sense!
Thanks for doing this video. I live in NYC and have to dress comfortably for all climates. I don't understand influencers who live in a real winter and force being "minimal". I have four sweaters, 4 sweater dresses, 4 wool tights, cashmere socks, a long puffer (w/hood, -30F protection, and waterproof), a long wool coat, snow boots, dressier boots, and a casual boot, gloves, hat, and scarf for winter. One coat and like two sweaters don't cut it for most people. I gave up on that and consider my wardrobe pragmatic and thoughtful.
My winter essential: Paper insole ( yes... Paper cut into insoles shape) i put 3 or4 paper insole in each shoe before putting it on. My feet will stay WAAAARM all day long. And at the end of the day i remove the papers that absorbed all the moisture and throw them away.
I'm so happy to see Uniqlo heat tech recommended! These pieces are so warm and perfect for winter on Canada! Also I totally agree Tru Earth is great in cleaning and caring for all my fave garments.
This makes me miss living in Chicago! I live in San Francisco now. No need for snow boots, mittens, and parkas. Your hair looks fab in this video. Not just the cut but the shine too!
Love this so much! We are from Michigan so very close to Canada and we get lake effect snow. Cuddl Duds are my favorite base layers, they're so soft and I wear their turtlenecks as fashion wear in winter! Also anything Smartwool! Their socks are incredible and we get the hiker socks and they're so durable and cute looking. Plus their customer service is incredible! Winter lasts so long for us so it's good to invest in all the proper winter gear like you shared! This is a great video!
For thick ice as I'm not used to it i go for attachable crampons. They're not the comfiest but I've found they're pretty safe. Mind that they don't work too well if there's snow and thick ice below.
Oh my goodness- THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!! I've watched other winter wardrobe videos But all of those are like the type of clothes I'd wear in autumn/spring when it's _mildly_ cold There's no way one would survive winter in Belgium with those clothes But this was very helpful for a _real_ winter wardrobe!!
I know it can feel irritable to some people, but Alpaca is also another great material to keep warm. I have alpaca sweaters that look comparatively thinner and have a looser knit compared to my wool and cashmere sweaters but they keep me just as warm. Agree that innerwear is a must. They also keep your clothes fresher and cleaner for longer inbetween washes.
I like to put an athletic long sleeve shirt or light long sleeve under my animal fur based sweaters (have an angora one I inherited)! Keep the warmth but avoid the irritation.
Alpaca is amazing. I had an alpaca sweater once, but one of our cats decided that it was an intruder and tore it apart. He was a 26 lb. Maine Coon; he went at that sweater like it was the enemy!
I'm from Germany and I love all my merino layers from the brand "Icebreaker" and my jackets are from "Wellensteyn" - breatheable, water resistant and the warmest I have worn yet. Thank you for your content 💕
I sweat I could not live without thermal wool underwear in Norway 🙈 they are just the best thing ever. I love wool it just does not make me sweaty and keeps the right temp all the time. So great to see you are using truearth products.
This is great! I have a hard time finding videos for actually cold winters. Now, I'm on the west coast of BC so we get WET and often windy winters, which means waterproof parkas and umbrellas and boots. The key is to stay dry because once you're wet, you lose heat fast.
I live in Stockholm, our winters are -10 to +5. Silk long johns, camisoles, tshirts, everything are the layers I swear by. I love the silky feeling on my body and they don't feel overly warm when I'm inside. And a thin "down" coat to layer underneath my wool overcoat when I want to look stylish.
Great video thank you - I am very impressed at surviving Canadian winters - they are something else! I'm in Cornwall, UK, where it's really variable in the winter, but generally very wet. Today it's 12 degrees C with 25 miles per hour winds, but last week we had 5 degrees and 50mph winds, and then torrential rain. So you need to be waterproofed, but also wearing breathable layers that you can take off and on easily as it's easy to overheat! I would love a cold, dry, crisp winter though, with snow, and less rain! Hope you keep toasty!
Wool tights, thin wool socks and thin long sleeved shirts, some with turtle neck also in wool to wear under thing that would be too cold to wear otherwise. Basically wool everything haha. Also I like to buy insoles with wool in my boots that are not lined for winter. Makes it possible to wear them when it’s not super cold at least 😊
I live in Glasgow, Scotland. It can be anything from -5 to +15c in winter and it's really wet and windy. My best winter clothing buy was a really good waterproof coat that has taped seams, is breathable and is thin so I can layer it to adjust the warmth. I also love my merino wool baselayers because they never feel damp or sweaty. And boots that are actually waterproof, so no zip ups for me!
So this past year I purchased a travel coat from Eddie Bauer that has a lining that can be added or removed and in the PNW where I live it's been the best -- Perfect for our rain and wearing a thick sweater underneath and/or the lining and is more flexible for the seasons (two rainy seasons, one rainy season with the possibility of snow and one summer). I have other coats but keep grabbing this one. HUGE difference. I also wear TImberlands or Sorels to keep my feet warm and comfortable. Last year I found a 'built in warmth' jean from Old Navy and it has been sooo great with this season! I wear them to work, I wear them anywhere.
I moved from a 28°C~30°C all year long city to Toronto almost 5 years ago and I will take the 6 months of winters over summer all year long ANYTIME! Sweaters/cardigans/coats/boots >>>>>>>> summer clothes/sweating all the time!
Suddenly remembering being required to wear a skirt to school as part of the uniform in Russia in the winter. I used to layer 3 pairs of knitted tights and knitted pants over them. 😅 Great video!
@@WhyUA-camWhy Agreed. There were 3 parts to the uniform, you had to wear at least one piece. However, even if you didn't wear the school skirt, all girls had to wear a skirt that was just below the knee year round.
Thanks for keeping it real. I’m all about the layering in colder weather, which does create more laundry. I’m a huge fan of Tru Earth and trust their products with all my clothes.
I just commented to your recent video that I want a realistic winter layering video 😂 I thought I saw all your videos but it seems that I missed this! Great tips! Thanks a lot!
Thanks for proper winter essentials for those of us with cold winters! I live in Utah, USA which experiences extreme temps/weather in all 4 seasons. We got thunder snow and about one foot of snowfall (in my area) last night. My essentials are very similar to yours.
Omg yes finally… I’m watching all these other winter wardrobe outfits and thinking… is it actually even winter where you live because it’s literally gonna snow here and a nice sweater over a skirt isn’t gonna do much for me like damn 😅
Greetings from South Korea :) You can also layer light(thin) parkas under your coats and oversized jackets to wear them below 0ºC. Down vests (or maybe padded vests) can be an alternative if the coats fit you tight in the arm area.
Uniqlo heat tech everything! I have the thermal underwear, socks and gloves. The Uniqlo light down packable jackets are great for layers under wool coats. I also love merino wool leggings and underwear
I live in The Netherlands, where it's not too cold (only rarely below zero) but rains a lot. I think that your winter essentials & mine are quite similar with few exceptions! To me, leather gloves does the job best especially on bikes especially if you have to change gears while cycling (or text - but please don't you'll get a fine!). You can get away with insulated fabric ones, but for me the leather ones are warmer. The knitted gloves will definitely absorb water, learned this lesson during my first winter here. I like fisherman beanies and berets, sometimes when it rains I also wrap my gigantic scarf over my head. I don't have snow boots, because it almost doesn't snow here & I think the snowy week in February this year was just an exception - I could still manage with boots. I do make sure that my boots have great soles though, to make sure I don't slip when walking or cycling.
A few years ago I ended up buying a pair of Icebugs (shoes with metal spikes on the bottom). Best 140 € I've ever spent. I live in Finland, by the coast, so our winter temperatures are normally around -3 °C (during the day), but can get colder than that on occasion (like the last couple of weeks with -15 °C on several days).
Albany, NY, here. Not quite Canada, but we have our moments! I tend to try to deny the need for hats, tights, bulky coat, etc., so thanks for the tips.
I love Uniqlo and their heat tech. I’m an XL, and got a men’s M shirt in white, tie dyed it, and it’s a favorite to keep me warm (but not too warm) at work.
I live in the north of Sweden so our climate are similar :) I wear wool undies, socks and sweaters, parkas, beanie and mittens. I like to use te same clothes all year, so layering is a must. I would like to find a vintage wool coat so thats what i'm looking for no. Great video and stay warm☃🤍
I live in England and although not as cold as Canada I always feel cold to the bone in winter. Thermals are the best and I have heat tech too. Have thrifted some mittens as your point is exactly how I felt, the cashmere gloves just don’t keep my hands warm enough. Great video 💫
I live in SoCal so it’s not that cold during winter. But my alma mater is in the Midwest and thermals, sweaters, beanie, fleece jackets, and my ski jacket were absolutely essential for me. I didn’t have a car and rarely left campus, and since the walkways were always shoveled I didn’t have too much of a need for snow boots. I had them just in case, but I def used my riding boots more. Fleece lined leggings were my jam too and super comfy. Your list is pretty spot on and super practical!
@@Christinamychas we’re def spoiled over here 😅 I was doing work at Starbucks today and saw multiple people wearing fur lined boots and puffer jackets even though it was 55. Idk if they actually felt cold or if we’re all ready for holiday weather to bust out the cozy comfy clothes 😂
Love the video and your collaboration with Tru Earth. Tru Earth is amazing. I'm using the Eco-Strips already a year and I love them and how easy-to-use they are.
I live in Norway on the west coast, here the weather is really unpredictable in winter, but it is always windy, so you need all kinds of winter gear. When it comes to thermals, I always chose wool. That is the best way to keep warm imo. We have several norwegian brands that make really good wool thermals for all kinds of harsh weather. When it comes to socks I prefer to make them myself, and also gloves. You can pick a nice yarn, knit the gloves a bit big, and then wash them in the washingmachine. That way they will shrink just a little bit, and the wool gets really thick and windproof. And they last forever!
I love those detergent strips, so nice not to have those big plastic laundry detergent bottles around. Thanks for the winter clothing tips. Up here in Northwestern Ontario it can get pretty cold at times.
Super video idea! I live in Toronto, and with the exception of polar fleece and some new tech materials, natural fabrics are a must. Cashmere is my go to for non-bulky, warm layering pieces.
As a glasses wearer, the pom pom keeping the hood up is the BEST tip I've ever heard in my life. Gosh it's impossible to keep water off my lenses. It's not quite the same here in NZ, we don't get super cold weather. But we rain most of the year so absolutely still got a lot out of this video 😂✌🏻
On your first point of layers underneath, I do fleecelined tights/leggings under my jeans on cold days and it works absolutely perfect. I walk a lot to/from/around campus and it just works so well. I grew up in MN and just moved to Fargo (so adjacent state) but damn do I forget how bad winters get every year. I currently am using a handmedown snowmobiling jacket because its warm af and I haven't found a new jacket I like enough to buy.
Thank you for this realistic and practical video! I live in Chicago where the air does at times hurt my face in the winter. There's no strolling along with our coats wide open! Love all your items and happy to see some of my favorites mirrored in your selection. Will have to look into those boots! 🥶❄️
Oh my gosh. I’m in Edmonton and it’s so cold here today. My water pipe froze and my vehicle won’t start. I often think living in such a variable weather climate I need LOTS of clothes but it’s so wasteful to own so much. Thanks for all the ideas
going to Canada next week! I didn't realise how cold the temperature is... I'm from Australia I hope i have enough clothes, I defintely need to borrow your scarf and some inner layers as I dont think I'll have enough...
Do you know the brand "icebreaker"? They have real nice wool stuff for layering and/or sport. "Lowa" is great for winter boots. I hope both brands deliver to Canada 😉
Yesss I was so excited to see your video on this when you first mentioned it! I'm trying to build out my winter coat/jacket staples now that I have more of a budget to get some more long-lasting pieces. And as an American east coaster - it def can def dip to negative degrees where I live,so ty for your Canadian winter 🥶❄️ expertise!
Typically where I live, the weather does not remain consistent, but our coldest months are usually towards the end of December as well as throughout January and February. It's irritating living in the south sometimes because of this, but at the very least, my top winter essentials would be a basic winter jacket, some gloves and some sturdy boots that can handle ice, slush and wet puddles.
Hi from Chicago! I echo the Uniqlo HeatTech and have some (I wear scrubs to work and always need to layer because scrubs are thin) but I also love 32° layering pieces, which you can get at Macys but also Costco. For boots, I have to go Hunter with warm socks underneath, because Chicago winters tend to be very wet (sleet, rain when not snowing). For coats I’ve always gone Lands End but they’ve changed their business model now so I guess I’ll have to buy those secondhand now.
Christina! You've totally inspired me to make more "uniforms" in my closet. I wore a blazer with a hoodie to the airport and felt so comfy and put together?! Where do you find good quality blazers? I want one or two more :))) Have an amazing holiday and excited for your 2022 content! Get it girl!
Lmfao so yesterday Edmonton got to minus ungodly. And I was every color of the rainbow because all of my warmest things are a mishmash of styles and colours . I looked ridiculous on the bus, waddling up to work, etc. Sometimes fashUn goes out the window when it's cold enough to lose limbs.
Thank you for addressing the warmth factor so many capsule wardrobes are like a shirt for their winter wardrobe and I’m like arrggghhhh how are you warm
Love your videos! I can recommend primaloft as a solid alternative to down. I used down jackets my whole life but bought a thin light primaloft puffer 2 years ago and it is the warmest jacket I have ever owned. It’s meant for more mild winter weather but I can wear it in 20 degrees Fahrenheit and still feel warm. I know that’s not as cold as winter gets but this is a LIGHT jacket so I can only assume a legit parka with primaloft would probably be extra toasty. Looking forward to your next vid :)
Hi Miss, is it possible to stay warm in winter with tshirt or short sleeved woollen sweater under a warm coat? Can you wear in winter pants with short socks underneath?
Hi Christina. I saw the same marketplace and I would love to hear a review of your boots after wearing them for the winter. I live in Ottawa and after getting frost bite on my toes as a teenager I have a harder time keeping them warm as I get older. So would love to know your thoughts about the Wind River boots as the winter progresses.
What are your winter essentials? 🥶
A few pairs of Smartwool socks (worth the initial $$) and all the hot coffee. 🖤

Canada goose is KEY. I don't find the super popular aritizia puffer to be warm enough compared to the goose. Oh and snow pants!

My family and I are relocating to Calgary from south Africa and this is so helpful. Thank you
A few years ago I ended up buying a pair of Icebugs (shoes with metal spikes on the bottom). Best 140 € I've ever spent.
I live in Finland, by the coast, so our winter temperatures are normally around -3 °C (during the day), but can get colder than that on occasion (like the last couple of weeks with -15 °C on several days).
the BeST WOOL SOCKS: i've had my DarnTough & SmartWool socks for 3-6 years & i wear them year-round... no holes!
Love smartwool socks! often wear year-round. Often buy them for my mom, too who is in her 80’s.
Albany, NY, here. Not quite Canada, but we have our moments! I tend to try to deny the need for hats, tights, bulky coat, etc., so thanks for the tips.
Loving this focus on Winter essentials! I’m proudly Canadian and can totally relate.
🥰🥰 🇨🇦
My best boot for icy conditions are Pajar with retractable cleat
I love Uniqlo and their heat tech. I’m an XL, and got a men’s M shirt in white, tie dyed it, and it’s a favorite to keep me warm (but not too warm) at work.
I live in the north of Sweden so our climate are similar :) I wear wool undies, socks and sweaters, parkas, beanie and mittens. I like to use te same clothes all year, so layering is a must. I would like to find a vintage wool coat so thats what i'm looking for no. Great video and stay warm☃🤍
I think it's nice you link to a second hand option. I think that should be promoted more by influencers over fast fashion which is more sustainable.
Freezing my butt off in New Brunswick!! We need ice picks for our boots a lot here. Love your Roots gear❤️
It’s my first real winter so Ty soo much
Take a peek at Bombas socks. I love mine living here is Wisconsin. Plus they have a nice philanthropic motto. Stay warm and healthy!
Oooo thank you!!
Jealous of the socal winter!!!
They save so much space and waste!
Gloves and beanies for sure! 🎁🎁🎁❄️❄️❄️
Super video idea! I live in Toronto, and with the exception of polar fleece and some new tech materials, natural fabrics are a must. Cashmere is my go to for non-bulky, warm layering pieces.
Yay for a fellow toronto friend!
This is awesome I like how comfy it looks
As a glasses wearer, the pom pom keeping the hood up is the BEST tip I've ever heard in my life. Gosh it's impossible to keep water off my lenses. It's not quite the same here in NZ, we don't get super cold weather. But we rain most of the year so absolutely still got a lot out of this video 😂✌🏻
Very poised, useful, voice tone, all great , plus the ecoearth sheets ...very useful
Thank you for this video ! I am new in Toronto , can you make an updated video and where to buy from
I can but tbh it’s mostly the same esp for the outdoor gear and boots! ❤️❤️
Omg they will not disappoint in a cold chicago winter!!
Oh my gosh. I’m in Edmonton and it’s so cold here today. My water pipe froze and my vehicle won’t start.
I often think living in such a variable weather climate I need LOTS of clothes but it’s so wasteful to own so much.
Thanks for all the ideas
Moving back to canada after being in the tropics for 7yrs, definitely a helpful vid
going to Canada next week! I didn't realise how cold the temperature is...
I'm from Australia
I hope i have enough clothes, I defintely need to borrow your scarf and some inner layers as I dont think I'll have enough...
Yes it’s cold here in March! Bundle up!
Woll-lined leather mittens as I bike throughout the winter in icy cold Germany
I’m loving the puffy jackets! So cozy!
I am terrible at knowing how to dress for the winter! Thank you so much for an insight on these essentials, I’ll definitely be prepared this year!
Haha my main concern is not falling down and legit warm coats! Not just stylish ones haha
@@Christinamychas yesss our priorities align 😂
Typically where I live, the weather does not remain consistent, but our coldest months are usually towards the end of December as well as throughout January and February. It's irritating living in the south sometimes because of this, but at the very least, my top winter essentials would be a basic winter jacket, some gloves and some sturdy boots that can handle ice, slush and wet puddles.
Istanbul doesn't get too cold thankfully but those boots look awesome 🤗🎄🎀🎄🎀
Hi from Chicago!
I echo the Uniqlo HeatTech and have some (I wear scrubs to work and always need to layer because scrubs are thin) but I also love 32° layering pieces, which you can get at Macys but also Costco. For boots, I have to go Hunter with warm socks underneath, because Chicago winters tend to be very wet (sleet, rain when not snowing). For coats I’ve always gone Lands End but they’ve changed their business model now so I guess I’ll have to buy those secondhand now.
Love the grey coat on you!
Christina! You've totally inspired me to make more "uniforms" in my closet. I wore a blazer with a hoodie to the airport and felt so comfy and put together?! Where do you find good quality blazers? I want one or two more :))) Have an amazing holiday and excited for your 2022 content! Get it girl!
Thank you Rachel! Yesss we love a blazer x hoodie moment! Aritzia is always my fave for blazers - the agency blazer is my most worn 🥰
Finally a video for the cold climates lol 🤣 the Netherlands is so wet and windy.
Uniqlo is my go to for tops/ trousers under clothes.
Love all the styles.
I love the Fresh Linen scent of the Tru Earth Eco-Strips and that they are so space saving. I'm using the metallic box too for them. Looks so cool.
TruEarth products are the best!!! Love them. Great content☺️
Thank you for addressing the warmth factor so many capsule wardrobes are like a shirt for their winter wardrobe and I’m like arrggghhhh how are you warm
Me, a Canadian, sitting in Vancouver like ☂ just give me my rainwear, and slightly thicker/warmer clothing and I'm good 😂
I live in Victoria, so I am all about the rainwear also, but I also own a puffer and good boots for those days when we get a snow fall.
Same over here in Scotland, if you're dry, you're warm!
Wool socks are still a must!
Thank you. I love this ❤️
That’s video it’s amazing!!!
I love how truearth eco-friendly strips come in scent free or a scented fragrance.
great vid!! how do you walk with winter boots? it's normal that you lose ankle movement? It's so bad for me!
Wow amazing collection
In Chicago it gets so cold this time of the year.
So cold!
So far so good! Warm, cozy and the most confident I’ve felt walking in ice aside from wearing my cleats so far! January will tell tho!
Great video for people who live in actual cold climates ( Oregon) the under garments, true to size,or size up?
I went TTS!
I love my truearth strips
Can you list a similar parka?? Is not mentioned in the description :) thanks
It’s from Norden! ❤️
