Cutting the Lines on a 9m Speedwing

- The plan was to fly the Mirage, get to the lake at 3,000ft, cut one line at a time starting in the back and ending with the As, then cutaway calmly.
By the time we got over the lake we were under 2,000ft (due to some modifications to the lines the wing wasn't flying as efficiently) so instead of cutting one line at a time with one hook knife, I decided to use two hook knives. I assumed I was going to drop one so I used the cheap one instead of a second carbon knife. Unfortunately the plastic hook knife broke when trying to cut the Bs.
The Mirage flew great without Cs. Once one side of the Bs were gone, not so much. But I saved all my handles! We'll definitely do this again.

Jeff Ayliffe that was the exact same comment I was going to ask... I would love to be able to afford to cut the lines to one.
My question also!! I had to save mt arse off for my new wing, and the thought of it even getting wet hurts my soul, but to see them destroy a brand new wing i'd kill for pains me!!
@@patrickswayze2596 You can put new lines on a wing. Its not hard. As for it getting wet its not good for it but will be fine once it dries out. Thats all assuming they found it.
So do we know why?

What is the purpose of that?
This hurts my soul watching a perfectly good wing being destroyed for no good reason other then video purposes!
So many people who watched this would kill for that wing!
its not that expensive to send to swing and get a new line set.
julian K yeah I know man, but it still stings watching it knowing both the costs of the wing, low altitude cut and the inherent risks involved in such a situation.

@@patrickswayze2596 1. As julian said, its just a new lineset which is fairly cheap.
2. Their setup seems to suggest they're acro pilots (cut away base rig), so honestly this really isn't that risky for them since they normally have 2-3 backup chutes and are used to throwing them.
3. As for why cut the lines? Probably just for the attention, but it does provide some interesting insight into how the wing behaves. So using their first 2 cuts, you can see that in stable and level flight, losing a rear riser line wouldn't be as bad as you'd expect.
It's an interesting exercise. As a wingman I always have fear a gust or a collision will damage my lines. Then what?

no, he made modifications to the "carabiner" so basically replaced them with strings instead of metal ones, so he would of been able to cut it just the knif

Those orange hook knives are banned i Sweden for skydiving. Interesting to see why.
Despite the fact that you cut the lines on this wing, which can be replaced anyway, I would like to mention that I appreciate that you did this, this has greatly increased my confidence in my wing, also a Mirage but an RS.
So, thanks for this video. Curiously, does anyone know how much it costs to put on a set of new lines changed by Swing?
you can easily do it yourself if you have a bit of experience or watched a tutorial. woudnt recomend doing the WHOLE line set by yourself tho, i guess by now you already found out and you can always send them in for a check up and ask them to fix it, a friend of mine payed 120 Euro for 1 replacement string (not swing paragliders tho)

Who uses a reserve when speedflying? Totaly useless
people who are intentionally going to destroy a perfectly good wing for fuck knows why!
I'd want my BASE rig over my reserve if cutting at that low altitude!

i think your better of without needing a reserve then need one but dont have one..
