That’s the point. What the narrator is trying to get you to do is just stop playing the game. Of course nothing happens, he’s trying to get you to quit the game entirely.
@@ChestersonJack i thought that's more of the museum ending's message. I saw this as more of a reflection of Stanley's life through the Narrator even subtly hinting it's his own life he's talking about, which makes this even sadder and deep.
I always wondered what the true ending of this game is: It could be the happy ending because you follow the story like you’re “supposed” too It could be the insanity/dream ending because it shows Stanley in the supposed real world It could be this ending because it tells about Stanley and his bad life decisions It could also technically be museum ending because the lady saids that there is no real way to win the game other then not to play it It could also be the real person ending because you played the game but broke it and once the player was gone what was left was Stanley but Stanley is just a player model,so he can’t make decisions,so the game never gets played again No, obviously it’s the broom closet ending!
I think the real ending is the one where Stanley doesn't make a choice, which is the ending where you as the player can finally win against the narrator. Also the credits roll
Scarily enough this was almost my *first* ending. Got out cuz the moment that manequin appeared and when the narrator talks about the death of stanley i wussed out.
Same, when I saw that ending with the mannequin it made me afraid the game would have a jump scare, in every dark room I entered. I couldn't tell you why.
I've always found it amazing how this game manages to make the player never know exactly which ending is really the "true ending" each route gives a different idea of what's really going on. is stanley real? is stanley daydreaming and detaching himself from reality more and more? is this world just a game and stanley is just an empty shell controlled by a player? Is the narrator stanley or someone completely different? is everything just a metaphor for the gaming industry? or even to the nature of narrative creation? everything is left to interpretation and I love it!

This is glitched on the new Ultra Deluxe Edition where it takes forever for the dialogue to happen and you can't speed it up so there's just minutes of silence.
Finally someone got the point. Yes that’s literally the point of this ending. “Work” is actually a metaphor for gaming here. Stanley craves choice, but every choice he has has already been pre written before he even turned on the game. We all see that Stanley’s job is mind nummingly boring. But then, when we get this ending, we realize we have literally been doing Stanley’s job this entire time. There is a way to not press the next button the game asks. Quit the game. Probably the reason this game is the only game I know of with an achievement you get for not playing it
