loved the video! Do you think you can tell us more about how to prepare and get into a consulting job? maybe the resources and basics people should study up? I am too early into this and would love if you could do something for the beginners and show them how to go about the whole thing :)

Thanks for the interview! And great editing, love the cheerful music!
Do you think finishing at 9pm is normal in Chicago office?! That sounds very early to me... In McKinsey Germany, you rarely finish a workday before 11am, and sometimes it can also get later 😬

Thank you, glad you love it.
I personally interned in the Shanghai office -- and yes, 11pm is pretty standard for me, esp. since I didn't travel.
I think for the Chicago office, it may be a special thing during COVID to reduce the hours in the office? Not sure, but also she started in 8am, which is a pretty early start (normally I think we start at around 9:30am right?)

@@JamesJia I was with McKinsey pre-pandemic, where you would spend everyday but Friday at the client's office. Typically, we started our workdays between 8-9 am. I do not want to appear too cynical, but it had not been my impression that the starting time would much influence the time we would finish a workday 😀

@@YOUinConsulting For sure -- I mean probably different studies would have different schedules too, it kinda depends on clients / study sometimes. :)

Finish work by nine at McKinsey seems hard to imagine tbh, I worked at a leading MC firm and 10-11 would be the norm, often also later

    Hey really nice video!
I also wanna do, internship as a recruiter consultant. Would you mind sharing your journey on your internship selection process and a full analysis on that.
Please mention wheather there was the McKinsey pst test or is it only for business analyst and associates. Generally how to interview works and stuff like that.
    Thanks

Hey Koustav, thanks for the comment -- I'm not sure about the process for HR/recruiter internship? I'm personally not aware that we actually have that. I think even if we do, the process will probably vary a lot compared to client-facing jobs (such as consultants).
Is that what you are asking? I feel like you will get a better response if you reach out to mckinsey directly.

    • @koustavbanerjee4763

@@JamesJia no James, i meant that, let's say for management consulting first there is pst, then HR screening and then the main case study based interviews right.
But these are for management consultants. However, what's the process for selecting recruitment consultant?
That's what I was asking. Wheather it is same as management consultants or not.
Cause management consultants slove business related problems more whereas, recruitment consultant works as a mediator between client and candidates.

@@koustavbanerjee4763 Yeah ok I gotchu. Personally, I'm not aware that we offer internship in "recruitment consultant" at McKinsey. You should definitely check with Mckinsey whether such title exists.

@@JamesJia yes i actually forgot what the real job description was, I think it was recruitment internship (6/12 months), with a possible permanent full time extension.

Hey, great video. I was wondering how McKinsey recruits from target schools. What sort of events/resources does McKinsey utilize to get access to and identify talent?

    • @JamesJia
      @JamesJia  2 роки тому

Hey Richard! Great question. Personally, I think McK (and other MBB) tend to have a special recruiting team for each school -- the members from those team will organize coffee chats, info sessions, etc.
You can identify if your school has a team / who is in the team, often by type your school's name into the recruitment page of the MBB website.
For high-potential candidates, identified through resume / certain college program etc., they may be selected into buddy programs.
I'd say target school is important, but also not 100% certain -- meaning, great students from non-target or semi-target always have a chance as well.
Feel free to email me if you wanna follow up. :)
