- This is the life we chose...
We take a walk down our road and get a new walking partner.
Hi folks, we’re a husband and wife team who purchased ~60 acres of off-grid land in the Maine North Woods to build our dream off-grid homesteading life. We're not experts in anything, but we're getting things done and making things happen despite all the challenges. Follow along as this pair of city dwellers turn their lives upside down and become fulltime Maine Off-Grid Homesteaders!
We've connected 2 Amish Cabins, installed a well and plumbing, installed our Solar System, built an 8x12 solar power shed, a 14x14 Outdoor Kitchen, expanded our lot by logging 5 acres, built a 400' Rustic Cedar fence, built a pig pen and raising pigs, built a 12x16 extension to our shop, brought in tons of gravel for expansion, built a successful garden and more importantly, our marriage has grown leaps and bounds!!

Bravo! Great to see you thriving in Maine in the winter. I am a Maine native and have lived here my whole life but we were living the rat race here in Maine too (smaller scale) in the city and decided in Jan. Of 2021 to move back to my birth place. Town of 780 people in a gorgeous but very rural area of the state. We bought 2 beautiful properties and have been starting from ground up. Gardens, chickens, pigs, planting apple trees and the best part is the most beautiful scenery to wake up to daily. It’s worth all the hard work…and it was and is hard work. We harvested our first pig last year and are still eating the meat! Congratulations.
Thank you for your support!❤️
In all of our travels over the years we have always loved the small town allure. Neither of us had ever been to Maine before but when we came to see our property for the first time we fell in love with the area. Not only the scenery (which is breathtaking) but the people and community. Starting from the ground up is difficult but so satisfying. The work is hard but so worth it. This is our second year with pigs and we will never buy store bought pork again. The taste is sooo good, let alone the fact that we know what went into our food. We plan on adding chickens as you have but we have needed to set up ourselves to succeed then we can add more livestock. Our garden did amazing last year and are looking forward to improving on it in the years to come. Please keep us posted on how your homestead is coming along. We love hearing about what has worked (and not worked) for others…especially others in Maine (since this area does have its own unique issues to overcome). ❤️

She LOVES to walk with us!! ❤️
That's wonderful. Im about to do the same thing. How many years did it take to build what you have there now?
Hi Chris! Congratulations on your future move!! We bought the property in 2019. There was a small hunters cabin, a shed and outhouse on the property. Before fully moving to the property in 2021 we had come out, did some clearing, put up the fence, dug the well and put down the gravel foundation for the cabins. The rest of the buildings and work has been done since we moved out here permanently in June of 2021. 😊
@@HanbleceyaRanch That's a lot of work and commitment. I really have been binge watching your videos because so many will apply directly to my move. I'll be up in Aroostook county. After I get set up I'll invite you guys over for a tour. It's going to be alot of work but I'm up for the task.
I saved a bunch of your videos for reference. Your library of videos are literally everything anyone would have to watch to learn how to do this in northern Maine
It has been a lot of work! We have worked harder, since being out here, then we have ever worked in our lives, but the payoff has been much greater then we had ever imagined!
We appreciate you watching our videos and we are so glad that you find them helpful with your future move.
Aroostook county is a beautiful area and the people we have encountered are so friendly and helpful.
When we started this channel it was mainly for our friends and family we were leaving behind, so they could see what we were doing. It has turned into so much more. We have met people and become friends with so many subscribers. It has been a blessing for us! The love, support and friendships have helped us more than we could ever describe! 😊
