I´m a big Lennon fan but, gradually, I have come to appreciate the work of Paul McCartney more and more. This interview is a bit surreal and leaves a bitter taste in the mouth due to the events of December 8, 1980. The truth is that John Lennon and Paul McCartney were a bit apart in those days, but they were still great friends. I sincerely believe that John Lennon would not have died if he had lived in England. But nobody foresaw that tragedy..
Why believe that? George Harrison lived in England and a deranged person broke into his house to kill him. The staying in England theory holds no water. NO water at all.
David picked some choice quotes from Lennon from his Playboy interview, but what he didn't know was that John really liked Paul's song "Coming Up" and I think helped inspire John to get back into recording again.
Considering all the wonderful times the Beatles had together, I can only imagine John's complaints were just the result of clouded memories. The footage of them working together was of them joking and having fun together, of being mutually supportive and honest. It was just a shame that they didn't get back together every few years, maybe they'd all be still alive too. It is also a pity that Billy Preston didn't become a permanent member. Great memories of a great band!

A few years later Hartman lost his job and was never seen again. Meanwhile in 2022 Paul is still composing, recording, performing and being charitable and inspirational.

Since John’s death, Paul has tried to paint this picture that all was fine with their relationship but @9:02 in this interview, which was recorded just before Lennon died, it shows the real truth about their relationship. They weren’t close. They hadn’t even seen each other for four years. When Paul got busted for drugs in Japan that year, it was purported that Lennon found it so funny that he bought all the British newspapers so he could revel in Paul’s misery in prison.
“Now Linda you are American…” *speaks with a British accent the entire interview* I always found that super interesting that she was able to pick up the accent that quickly
Dear Pete Elias, she has lived in England for more than ten years now and she is constantly around people who talk like that so, if that is all she ever hears, she will start talking like that without even realizing it. It would be the same thing if I were from someplace like Kansas and I would move to.... New Jersey for 10 or so years, I would start talking like I were from there.

At the end of the interview Hartman is heartless and beyond cruel to Paul and then wishes him a fake happy Thanksgiving -- what a creepy thing Hartman did there, quoting Lennon's negative comments towards Paul which Hartman gleefully threw in Paul's face -- Paul took the high road, and within a few weeks John would be murdered so it was good that Paul did not take Hartman's cheap bait. A few years later Hartman lost his job and was never seen again. Meanwhile in 2022 Paul is still composing, recording, performing and being charitable and inspirational.
Never liked that jerk Hartman. Paul hated the media really.
I was in high school. What I can remember this was 1990 and it seemed like Paul Mc Artney was on a huge tour that year. Can’t remember anything else.
Linda E. was big holder and big pure love for paul. I think so. Paul is lucky!
"What did you do to win her over?" Well she was a single mother and he was a flipping Beatle.
Plus he was pretty!
She was a single mother from a very wealthy family. She didn't need to get married to anybody.
She played hard to get, of course.
She was a top tier rock photographer and foxy as hell. He got lucky.
@@elizabethbowker9195 Well said Elizabeth and absolutely true !
When I was young I liked David Hartman. But as I watch these old interviews I think wow, what a hack interviewer. It's a wonder he was on GMA as long as he was in retrospect.
Linda really is so lovely..
John loved coming up....
The 18 year old is Heather, from Linda's previous marriage, but Paul adopted Heather when he married Linda.
Yeah, you just never see Linda's daughter any more. I heard she was doing pottery in China.
@@4Barbe Really? I heard that she lives in a small cottage at Paul's estade...
@@m.st.6657 I never see her any more in family photos. It's always Mary, Stella and sometimes James.
@@m.st.6657 Okay..."Heather Louise McCartney traveled to Mexico, where she lived among natives of the Huichol and Tarahumara tribes. McCartney later moved to Arizona to live with her biological father and eventually returned to England to work as a potter." I do feel sorry for her, as her bilological father killed himself, shortly after Linda died.
This was 1980 , we are now in 2020. Then Paul was 38,
This interview was 2 weeks before John was murdered. They both seem not to want to be there doing this interview and seem not to like David Hartman. Why David brought up the tension between Paul & John was stupid & it pissed him off Im sure.
No, your wife! Classic, the silly interviewer actually got suspicious.
No he didn't. Someone didn't happen to tell you tv is scripted and not real
Memories Are Made Of This
Sung by Dean Martin
(The sweet, sweet, memories you've given me
You can't beat the memories you've given me...)
Take one fresh and tender kiss
Add one stolen night of bliss
One girl, one boy
Some grief, some joy
Memories are made of this
Don't forget a small moonbeam
Fold it lightly with a dream
Your lips and mine
Two sips of wine
Memories are made of this
Then add the wedding vows
One house where lovers dwell
Three little kids for the flavor
Stir carefully through the days
See how the flavor stays
These are the dreams you will savor
With His blessings from above
Serve it generously with love
One man, one wife
One love, through life
Memories are made of this
Memories are made of this
❤
Did you see Paul casually flip the bird?? LOL! love it
Paul is great person, the amount of shitty interviews he had to put up with throughout his life never losing his temper. Well, it is part of the job.
Linda had a young daughter Paul was crazy about too. A love story for the ages.
This is precious
hahahahahaahah "your wife."
oh god, what an interviewer....
❤❤❤❤
this interview is like now a days with the youtube podcasts
So glad Paul dealt so well with that last question and didn't get pulled in. Took the higher ground - with humour.
“Now Linda you are American…”
*speaks with a British accent the entire interview*
I always found that super interesting that she was able to pick up the accent that quickly
this interview was awkward..
Lord. We know who the happy Beatle was. The family man, the beloved dad and husband, the normie.
Sgt Peppers the greatest album of all time. Paul was listening to the Beach Boys Pet Sounds at the time of writing Sgt Peppers
Linda and Paul "a dreamcouple"
Dear Pete Elias, she has lived in England for more than ten years now and she is constantly around people who talk like that so, if that is all she ever hears, she will start talking like that without even realizing it. It would be the same thing if I were from someplace like Kansas and I would move to.... New Jersey for 10 or so years, I would start talking like I were from there.
Excuse me, she HAD lived there for more than ten years in the video
one funny thing when guys interview Paul is that they don't loosen up their image a little, take off their jacket, muss up their hair, they always look kind of stiff
Paul might have been subconsciously thinking of losing his mum at 17 when he wrote Yesterday. Why she had to go I don't know she wouldn't say.
David was always an idiot. Use to warch Good Morning America at this time. I was 20 and watched it at the Student Center before class at SIU Carbandale, Il. Same place I was at when John got shot.
its thanksgiving and John will be dead in less than 2 weeks, Kinda strange to hear them joke about Linda being into John.
+Carlie Brown Well, John just happened to have been her favorite Beatle, that's all. So what? And do you think that they knew that John would soon be killed? And isn't Thanksgiving supposed to be a joyous time all about family, friends and fun? The only strange thing is your comment.
Linda's face when he asked if there's a generation gap hahahaha
I'd just like to see Paul and Linda's faces when they turned the cameras off geez
They lit one up for sure
Look at the tv david is looking at, ah.. The good old days.
I find the interview very interesting, especially about the relationship with Lennon.
This interview is in 1980, so Linda wasn't fighting anything at the time. She was diagnosed somewhere in the 1990's.
I rememba when I did this interview and the memories Ive had since doing that interview. I think it was quite a lovely little interview. I quite enjoyed this particular interview. In fact, if I had to choose which of all the intetviews Ive done, Id say this was the best interview Ive ever done!
Paul was always so mature, while John was always a resentful adolescent. Paul was always better than John. John started to lose his voice about 1965, while Paul, in the time of that interview, could almost sing early beatles songs perfectly. John was a very jealous guy, indeed.
Enrico Menconi. The 1ST Paul McCartney; u know the 1, the 1 that played in Johns` band THE QUARRYMEN in the late 1950`s??? John was ok with. however... this billy shear guy; GEESH!!! Lennon could do without. He actually thinks he`s the "REAL"!!! Paul Mac born June 18,1942 deceased November 9,1966!!!

It's not a British accent after the wedding. She was from an upper class family, she's hardly going to speak with a typical American Southern twang. It only became more pronounced and 'British' after she lived in England for a while, which is pretty typical. You pick up the local accent after a while, no matter where you are.
Not everyone. I'm born and raised in New Orleans, lived for 20 years in South Geogia and never lost my New Orleans accent. Her accent sounds fake.
The John comments I think were from many years earlier.
But at least Ed Sullivan got their names right!
In like a week and a half after this interview John Lennon was killed. The dream on seen The Beatles back together again died too.
Yep. That's true. How fucked up that was...
Love you Paul
oh my god....this is just a couple of weeks before JOHN was killed.
wow thanksgiving 1980... just two weeks before lennon died
you can tell this is before lennon died. he was cocky. when lennon died it humbled him. God bless him.
i can't stand this interviewer
