      @@NikkiConnected hi 👋🏽 im back again, I sent a DM but it probably went to message request. Im just going to ask you here. How many projects/books do you recommend doing at a time? I just got another offer for a book like 17 hours long. Royalty shares only. They don’t have any ratings yet. I don’t mind reading it, sounds very interesting, just worried about overwhelming myself. Should I wait until I’m done with first book to start next project?

      That sounds great. By the way, how did your experience go? How many words, for example, were you able to record and edit per finished hour (pfh)? I hope to get your wisdom because I think 9,000 words per finished hour is rather difficult. Any tips? :)

    Just an fyi, not sure what city you live in, but the local library may have rooms that you can reserve for several hours FREE sometimes they may also have spaces you can rent for a small fee for longer periods of time. You'd just have to lug your equipment there until you can get moved.

      Girl! That is such GREAT ADVICE!
      I’m in Philly and we have plenty of libraries, which probably have space since people hardly go to libraries anymore. 😂
      In my newer videos I’ve shared that I live in a much quieter place so I don’t have the noise issues anymore. But your advice can help a lot of people that have loud neighbors like I did. 😒
      Thanks so much for sharing! 💖

    I have, and am narrating with the very same Mic. Shure MV51. I downloaded the mics app onto my phone, plugged the mic into my phone and with the app. turned on the limiter. The limiter will keep you from clipping in the future as well as never distorting the signal again. Never give up, its constant learning.

  • @lytnin88
    @lytnin88 2 роки тому +7

    Diva, dynamic mic is less sensitive, so it doesn't pick up extraneous noises (like your neighbors). That's what I use, and no customer has ever complained about the quality of the audio.

    Congrats on your second audiobook. Sorry to hear that it was such a nightmare. I'm not sure what your equipment is, but given your noise issue I would highly recommend the Sure SM7B Dynamic Mic with the DBX 286s audio strip. There is also plugins that you can use to help clean up the background noise, one in particular is Waves NS1. Clipping is basically when the sound gets too loud and becomes distorted. To avoid clipping be mindful of your input levels when recording. Not sure why you were clipping but typically you can avoid it by turning down your gain or backing away from the mic a little. Hope this information helps.

      Hey! Thanks for the info! I did attempt to clean up the noise with a plugin, but I couldn’t get it to where I felt it was an acceptable sound. But that info can definitely be helpful for people watching. You rock! 🤩

    Looks like you need to build a sound proof booth, but make sure it's quietly air conditioned. I'm thinking of doing this, but i live with my brother who is always running power tools outside the house, So, I wouldn't think of beginning without building a sound proofed, air conditioned booth, first. I've done many recordings in the music field, but I would pay a studio all of whom are sound proofed in the recording area. I'm familiar with audio recording techniques,, so doing this for me would be like a duck taking to water. Yes, get mastering software and learn how to use it.

    A SUPER-cardioid microphone is best for home recording as it has a very tight pattern rejecting reflected audio. Also, some attempt at sound dampening using moving blankets or another sound absorbent material is important.

    Lol so I'm just looking into becoming an audiobook narrator and I really enjoy your videos and when you were talking about the loud cars I was just laughing to myself because I have been one of those people who makes my car loud. But when we have a car that we're really proud of and that sounds pretty good We kind of like to show it off. It's kind of like listening to music loud. When you tend to really like a specific song, you turn it up louder and it's the same logic. Although I do agree that driving around the neighborhood late at night or early in the morning and being obnoxiously loud like not just cruising through the neighborhood in a louder car. But actually doing burnouts is very rude and I think there are laws against stuff like that. And also sometimes it's not even people who try to make their car loud. Like for instance, my old 20-year-old car decided to have the exhaust pipe brake from rust which is something I am planning on fixing but for right now it sounds kind of crappy and loud and that's something that's kind of out of my control. I didn't purposely make that decision to break it and make it loud. But for people who have sports cars we kind of just like having them loud because to us they sound very nice when they're loud.
    Anyway, I hope you read this comment and get some insight and I will probably watch a lot more of your videos because I'm finding them really helpful and real ☺️

    • @NikkiConnected
      @NikkiConnected  Рік тому

      Wow! You are thorough! Thanks so much for that explanation. Honestly, I never thought about it like turning up your favorite song. Luckily, I’m no longer in that neighborhood. I escaped. 🏃🏽‍♀️ 🤣

    Love your video, Nikki. I have a question. How many words are you expected to record per finished hour for audiobooks? (pfh) I think recording and editing 9,000 words per hour can be quite difficult. Any tips for that? :)

    • @NikkiConnected
      @NikkiConnected  2 роки тому

      Hey! There is no number for how many words you're expected to read per hour. Contracts will have deadlines that are specified, depending upon what the author set. I've always had at least 3 months to finish my books. I spread out my recording around my schedule.
      The real time-consuming part is the post-production and meeting the strict sound requirements which I teach in my course, the Audiobook Blueprint, that's linked in the description.
      Like I tell the students in my course, never rush. You'll have to take breaks. Which is why I have the course to help reduce the time and make production easier.
      I hope this info helped. I wish you much luck on the journey. It can be really rewarding! 😊

      Hey Alejandra. ACX is owned by Amazon so it’s legit and they do things by the book. Since they’re paying us, they need our tax information as any employer would for tax reporting purposes. In the U.S., they send a yearly 1099 form for us to report our income, as well. 😊
      Hope this answers your question. And I invite you, if you haven’t yet taken it, to my free narration class to help streamline the narration journey, you can still get in for a limited time.

    Same problem here. Neighbors blare music at odd hours above me...even traffic at 3am the cars tear off at the light at my driveway entrance. Some random asked me yesterday if there was apartment nearby for rent-he wanted the peace and quiet of the country. I laughed and said it’s not quiet here. He didn’t believe me. I don’t care-he doesn’t live here. You could report a noise violation...depends on your township. But I hope when you move you no longer face this issue.

      @NikkiConnected You wouldn't need AU to read your book if it's already on Audible or ACX. I'm speaking of regular digital books from Amazon or other digital platforms for reading. I just had Snoop Dogg and Morgan Freeman read several chapters of my own book. It did not sound like AI at all. There are small instances where it messes up, such as words like "live" or thinking capitalized words as acronyms, but that will get better within a month or so because it's learning so quickly. Y3s, there are the terrible AI voices, but that's yesteryear. I even added my own voice to the reader and it sounds exactly like me, not a robot or AI.
