Vic High Country Steep Tracks - ( Walhalla On The Way To Licola )

  • Leaving Walhalla in the Vic High Country after a fair bit of rain over night, and heading for more steep Vic High Country 4x4 tracks like Burgoyne Track on the Macalister River.
The 4x4 tracks in the Vic High Country can change very quickly after rain. The steep tracks in the Walhalla area needed to be treated with a great deal of respect at any time of year, but even more so after rain.
I really enjoy driving in steep country.
The 4x4 tracks in the Vic High Country just go on for ever, with amazing views at the tops of the mountains.
The next morning we pack up camp beside the Macalister River, and head back up Burgoyne Track, to take on the crossing of the Macalister River.
At this time of year, the Macalister River River crossing can be deep and fast flowing, testing out both the driver and the 4x4.
The Vic High Country has so much on offer, from long steep 4x4 tracks, river crossing, mountain views and great camping spots.

Nice part of the world mate
    It's definitely on my list
Has been since I watched the man from snowy River as a kid at the cinema, just haven't made it that far south yet. Yeah you never quite can catch the angle of those steep hills on camera I've tried to film a few knarly hill climbs around Coffs Harbour but it never gives it the justice those big steep hills deserve.
At least you took another cook with you this time. Love your channel mate even though I've only just gotten onto it. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the great video, commentary, production (a lot of work went into this) etc. It's been a while since we tackled the Vic high country. Last time we based ourselves at Talbotville and explored Wonnangatta, did Blue Rag and surrounds, then camped at Native Dog Flat etc. with the little-uns. Looks like it's still Nissan country so we must return with ours soon! Many thanks from Sydney, Aust - Dave and family P.S. Love it that you're not beating up the place like so many other 4WD 'heroes'. Much appreciated.

Tim Bates 4wd Adventures I enjoy watching your videos, and plan to come along one of these days, but i have to say this video was a little irresponsible. i instantly knew that crossing was not walkable (red flag) and almost certainly life threatening in a stock 4wd. your lift kit kept you from floating away i suggest. might be worth adding a warning or editing in some safety tips. less experienced viewers might get the wrong idea here.

There are so many places in Australia that I would love to visit. But If I had to pick based on uniqueness compared to the States I think the Vic High Country would be it. No we don't have as much cool beach driving or as much continuous remoteness of the Simpson or something like the Canning Stock, but we have elements of those. But the Vic High country we just don't have anything quite like this. We just don't have these steep rolling mountains but not hills and not alpine giants or not shelf road type of terrain in a huge area like this.

    • @timbates4wdadventures
      @timbates4wdadventures  4 роки тому

      G'day mate,
Thanks for dropping in from the States.
Australia has so much to see and explore, but the Victorian High Country is very special.
No other State in Australia has what we have in Victoria when it comes to the High Country.
Other States of Australia have small areas like the High Country in Victoria, but not the size of the High country.
Hopefully you can get over one day and see it for your self.

The Hilux would be a bit more inclined to float than the Patrols. Losing rear wheel traction in the crossing as it was in the video, wouldn't be fun. So if I was in a Hilux I would hook onto the back of a Patrol or Cruiser and get a tow across, otherwise give it a miss.
