One more comment. This is what I want to hear when I listen to, or watch an interview on video. No hype, no over the top antics.... Just 2 guys talking about music. Thanks Jason, and thanks Jeff!!
Jeff is an amazing musician, and I really think that Dokken really began to move on after he was in the band composing, he is so humble that in the interview he states "Dokken obviously got to succeed because of George playing, Don's voice, etc." but it was also because of him...
I saw Dokken open for Twisted Sister on the Under Lock and Key tour in Maryland at the Capitol Center. Dokken finished their set and people were still chanting Dokken when Twisted Sister came on.
Jeff is a class act. I’ve met Jeff and hung out for some time and I’ve yet to meet a more down-to-Earth musician. I can’t praise Jeff enough. Great interview.
I am a bass player, and a pretty good one. Jeff is a beast- love the catalog of different artists he has performed with, shows great versatility and competence as a musician.
Best interviewer I've ever listened to in any field. He asks the questions fans want to know and gets so much information out of the guests. This channels is going to huge. Another interviewer of these bands needs to take notes from this guy for sure.
@@debsayler624 Very simple...he does his homework and thinks outside the box. He doesn't always asked the same boring questions. It's probably a breath of fresh air for the musician being interviewed too.
Have loved Dokken since 1985, but to your point about Foreigner bringing in younger fans: My Daughter just turned 19 and her favorite song for a few years now is “I Want to Know What Love Is”. She was 16 and as a future nurse, via Vo-Tech School, she was in a labor and delivery room and as she says w joyous tears to this day “Dad, that baby came out right when that chorus kicked in”. I love hearing her tell this story.
Jeff is always a good interview. I saw DOKKEN in 1987 open for AC/DC in Stuttgart, GE. Been a fan since Tooth and Nail. Love those early albums. Love those early memories and stories he shares of the old Dokken days! My favorite disc was Back for the Attack....all great tracks and playing.
Under Lock and Key was my most favorite Dokken album. Man those are some great songs. Loved the album cover greatly.. my favs were unchain the night, im a hunter, in my dreams, and lightning strikes. Loved this interview.. !!
Great interview - not sure if there is anyone cooler or more real in the business than Jeff. He is a great musician, great voice, met him at NAMM a number of years ago and he was great then too!! Thank you for this interview.
Imagine saying Back for the Attack could have been even stronger. Thing is, I never considered it possible, until Jeff said that and then it just made absolute sense. I want that alternate universe record.
Jeff Pilson is pretty much the Forrest Gump of hard rock. Around for so many important events and so many of the most celebrated personalities in rock and hair metal. And one of the most versatile bassists/singers of that generation.
Interviewer par excellence. Others could learn a lot about how to conduct an interview by watching this. Been a Dokken fan since the beginning and I knew Jeff Pilson would have the most honest assessment of the band's history. Once again, this proves that the ones who don't get the brightest spot light in the band often have the most interesting things to say.
Jeff has been one of my favourite bassists and musicians for years, interesting hearing his perspective on the George/Don situation, very honest about it too.
Jeff pilson is easily the most likeable and honest man in this band. I think he was the most humble. Don and George had very conflicting personalities back then
I have followed Jeff from Dokken to Foreigner to his new side projects (and then back) and he continues to exude the same passion and excitement about music. Another great interview Jason.
Never was able to see Dokken but loved their music since the beginning. Love the End Machine tunes also. Long time Foreigner fan too. I've seen Lynch Mob twice and hope End Machine tours!
Great to see you interview Jeff. Great bassist great singer great guy. I love seein him in foreigner great fit. Jeff actually got my number from Chip Znuff back when he was putting together war & peace. Jeff called we talked I had a chance to go out & audition for them but the bassist they had decided to stay I guess. Jeff was gonna be the lead singer. I caught up with him at a Dokken show in Buffalo hung out on the bus with him & Mick Brown. Great guys.
I used to know Jeff from LA Fitness, Van Nuys, as well as his wife Ravinder, from LA Fitness, Sherman Oaks. Theyre both genuine people, meant for each other, and why their marriage has endured - 15+ years, or so
Always liked pilson, I wasnt a huge dokken fan but liked a few songs, was surprised the first time I saw him playing in foreigner. Was happy for him out there working with an established, good band. Keep playin. Very cool interview. Keep em coming.
I’ve admired Jeff since ‘84. What a talent and such a great guy. Lucky to meet him back in ‘86. No rock star attitude, the coolest guy. Jason, your interviews are absolutely fantastic! Keep em going....please. Subscribed!
another excellent interview, Jason. It's amazing how with so many bands it's the same old story, only the names change. As if there's a template they all must follow
I love the Breakin the Chains video. The chain guitar strings and wrist explosions were epic to my teen aged brain. Compared to alot of other videos at the time, it was amazing.
Absolutely awesome guest, rock musician and episode too! I've always liked Jeff's work since Dokken! I really enjoyed this interesting interview! All of Dokken's albums were just awesome which they did in the 80s! My favorite era was Erase the Slate 1999 when Reb Beach in the band! Now Beach and Pilson have been together again in the same band project called Black Swan! And it's an amazing band! I look forward to new music from them! Thanks for sharing this video 👍
Great interview! Jeff is great musician/ person, talented. Jason doing great job with these interviews, this is what people want to hear/see, asking good questions and letting the guest talk about all this stuff we want to hear without cutting them off, just letting them talk, many of us have grown up on these musicians and its great to hear the history and stories, keep up the great work!
Jeff Pilson is and has always been a cool humble guy. I love everything that he did with Dokken and Dio. I love the original Foreigner band big time, but I do admit that the current lineup does a fantastic job on all the classic songs. Great interview Jason as always!!
Under lock & key was my first cassette. Back when you could order 10 cassettes for a penny from RCA.. I believe! Best album that I have ever heard. Wore that cassette out! That is when I became a huge Dokken fan! They had such a unique sound that made you feel good inside. I actually got chills listening to Georges solos. That's when you know that the music really connects with you! Another guitarist that gives me chills is Reb Beach! He is the GOAT in my eyes!
I loved this interview. I'm a guitar player have been playing since the early 80's so I was a George fan by far.. but even back then I always figured Jeff was the glue that helped keep them together. But I'm also a big Foreigner fan. One of my first albums I ever bought on my own was when Agent Provicateur ( I was 11). And I love that band, the song writing was incredible on those Foreigner albums. (Not being the rock hall is a crime and I know there are many others that should be as well).. And I am NOT one of those fans that say "NO so and so NO band.. BS.. This Foreigner is Foreigner to me, the songs sound amazing.. and let's be honest yeah Lou isn't there and thats sad, but when someone isn't able to do it, why not find someone who can keep that music alive and still able to bring it to fans live and introduce these timeless classics to the younger generations. I kinda wished you would have talked to him about what it was like to be in Dokken w/ Jon Norum on guitar and Reb Beach on guitar.. I loved those two albums w/ those guys... .
I'm an 80s fanatic and on the short list of things I love from that magical decade the band Dokken is definitely in the top 5 no other hard rock band from that time is as tasty to my ears, the entire band as a whole looks and sounds to me like a jack n coke tastes, perfect. I personally love every Dokken video and I for one don't feel like they made any wrong moves during the 80s in my opinion it's all picture perfect. Great interview.
I like their stage clothes. I always appreciated that more than a tee shirt/ jeans combo. But I know a lot of guys wanted to go out and do a sort of "athletic" performance. And I think they were the best opening. I saw them many times. Always a great performance
Dokken's worst two records. "Dysfunctional" still had some good moments, "Too High To Fly" for example. But "Shadowlife" is not even listenable for me. It's just god-awful. There's not even one good song on there.
Although Jason is friends with the guests, u can't tell, so he's able to maintain the professionalism by asking questions despite if they may bring back a bad memory. Breath of fresh air, unlike Mitch "Fanboy" LaFon & Dean Delray - who despite being a self-professed comic, is about as funny as walking in on a bunch of dudes pulling a train on your lady
Don't think you met Jimmy bane but you are a great bassist. Good to see your still relevant your foreigner playing is unbelievable go Jeff cool to see it ya
I subscribed and I'll waste some time with you ANY TIME Jason ! You are by far the BEST interviewer I have ever heard and seen . You are definitely a real professional. Thank you for keeping it interesting always !!!
Jeff Pilson Rules. One of the Best, producer, writer, musician, Bass Players, Showman with great stage presence, etc... Met him during the pre-famous days, 1980, 1981. Very very nice guy. Down to earth and spiritual in a non religion way. I believe that he is a vegetarian. Cool dude 🎸🎤🎼⭐🙏
In Europe we only know the shown Tooth and Nail Cover. But if you google you can find the cassette cover. Makes sense, though the cassette cover does not compete.
Great interview jason! Jeff is totally cool and very diplomatically honest and transparent . Dokken was my fav band growing up.god i hope there hope for 70s and 80s style music with covid virus thing and all these old bands geting together snd recording new album s .that goes for my bands sake as well !
As much as I loved Dokken, I truly believed that Don took Jeff, George and Mick for granted. 😮 They were awesome... It was so sad that just as they were at the top of their game, they split up but I'm glad that Jeff and George are still out there making great music. ❤❤❤

I was lucky enough to work with Jeff and can attest that he is one of the nicest, most talented guys in music. Nice interview.
I met Dokken back in the day and Jeff was such a cool dude.
Most definitely! I’ve met him several times and always so humble and gracious.
One of the nicest and most genuine guys out there, always makes time for everybody, true gentleman
I saw Dokken open for Twisted Sister on the Under Lock and Key tour in Maryland at the Capitol Center. Dokken finished their set and people were still chanting Dokken when Twisted Sister came on.

Means a lot, thanks for taking the time to comment
@E L I completely agree ! There's definitely something that Jason has that no other interviewer has. And he knows just what the fans want to know.

There is no Dokken without Jeff. He contributed so much and was so dedicated. In the end he tried hard to keep it together. Great interview.
Jeff is awesome and loads of talent.
As much as I love Dokken, he helped write one of Dio's best albums, Strange Highways.
Would totally buy a Jeff Pilson autobiography, sight unseen. Amazing career.
Under Lock and Key was my most favorite Dokken album. Man those are some great songs. Loved the album cover greatly.. my favs were unchain the night, im a hunter, in my dreams, and lightning strikes. Loved this interview.. !!
Till the Living End and Will the Sun Rise are the 2 dark horse tracks on that record which makes it even more worthwhile to have.
Great interview - not sure if there is anyone cooler or more real in the business than Jeff. He is a great musician, great voice, met him at NAMM a number of years ago and he was great then too!! Thank you for this interview.
Just love Jeff!!! What a musician!!!
Imagine saying Back for the Attack could have been even stronger. Thing is, I never considered it possible, until Jeff said that and then it just made absolute sense. I want that alternate universe record.
Great bass player terrific singer and song writer
Great interviewl!
Jeff is one of the best rock bassists around . His on stage energy is legendary.

Love Jeff’s work with Dokken,Dio,and The End Machine.

Jeff pilson is easily the most likeable and honest man in this band. I think he was the most humble. Don and George had very conflicting personalities back then
One of the reasons I play bass guitar 🎸
Love his style of playing.
Tooth and Nail. Huge record - at the exact right time !
Great chat with Jeff. Fun facts ! Best opening band I ever saw.

They opened for Dio in Anchorage, Alaska on this tour. My first concert
Your channel is getting better and better all the time. Great interviews!!
Thanks Charlie
This was a great interview. I interviewed Jeff several years back and he was such a great guy to talk to.
Great interview. Pilson's always a class act.
Thanks, Yes he is
Amazing interview. Learned so much about Dokken.. I could listen to his stories from those early records for hours. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
I was glad he was up to discuss as much as he did
🎸🙋♀️🎶Always loved U, Jeff & followed U thru your career. Great interview Jason!
The Dream Warriors demo where Jeff sings is on UA-cam.

His vocals are bad ass!
It was great to hear stuff from Jeff about the Dokken days.
First time I seen Jeff play bass...1988 pontiac silverdome..( Detroit).after kingdom come,, before metallica, scorps and van hagar.. good times
I have a journalism degree, so I’m qualified to say: Jason asks great questions, and is a joy of a listen
Thank you Kevin, much appreciated!
I’ve admired Jeff since ‘84. What a talent and such a great guy. Lucky to meet him back in ‘86. No rock star attitude, the coolest guy.

Now this is going to be a kick ass interview
I have been a Huge fan and Rockin with Dokken since 1988.
Thanks Jason!!! Never caught your stuff before, I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Jeff is a great guy. Just a consummate professional and a nice guy
Great how he admitted freely to drugs and booze. Never would of guessed it. Honestly.
This is gonna be great ! Can't wait !
I like their stage clothes. I always appreciated that more than a tee shirt/ jeans combo. But I know a lot of guys wanted to go out and do a sort of "athletic" performance. And I think they were the best opening. I saw them many times. Always a great performance
By far the most underrated band!! DOKKEN one of the very best!!
Jeff is always a great interviewee.
Excellent interview Jason. The art of directing the course of a great interview is no easy task. -Dustin
Very interesting interview with a greatly talented musician. You are a super host.
Cant wait, love your interviews jason.
That was probably the best interview of yours I have seen to date. Getting much smoother. Props!
Wish we could have heard Jeff's take on Shadowlife and Dysfunctional. But this was a cool interview.
Yeah, I was unpleasently surprised he skipped them. A pity. Different, but good music.
Dokken's worst two records. "Dysfunctional" still had some good moments, "Too High To Fly" for example. But "Shadowlife" is not even listenable for me. It's just god-awful. There's not even one good song on there.
I'll never forget the great opening show Dokken put on while supporting "Back for the attack" LP. The opened for Areosmith, 😃👍
I really enjoyed this.. thanks to you both !!!!
Another great interview, Jason! Love your channel!! Love, Jeff and Dokken!!

Jeff seems like such a down to earth cool dude. Id love to hang with him and talk music!
Man, I'd love to hear some of these Jeff versions of the Dokken songs. (Aside from various live performances)
Me too

I was at the Monsters of Rock at Mile High. Sad what happened after as Dokken the band I most wanted to see there. You guys were good!

One of the best of the genre, Era, and shoulda been headliners. Twisted Sister should been opening for Dokken
As much as I loved Dokken, I truly believed that Don took Jeff, George and Mick for granted. 😮 They were awesome... It was so sad that just as they were at the top of their game, they split up but I'm glad that Jeff and George are still out there making great music. ❤❤❤
Great interview Jason thanks for asking about Rockstar.
