    📺 ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
In this video, Steve Stine shows you how to play the fingerpicking pattern used in songs like Dust in the Wind by Kansas, Marry Me by Train and many others.
It's a great pattern to learn and to use when you need something interesting to play, and want to fingerpick instead of strum.

Steve, I've been a beginning strummer for 52 years. I'm no kid anymore, but I have always had a secret desire to fingerpick songs. I just never found the right UA-cam video or written instructions to really get me started. That is until I came across your video above.
The way you broke down each individual part and repeated it enough to help reinforce it proved very, very helpful to me. I am very excited at the prospect of being to pick, perhaps a little slowly at first, "Dust in the Wind" and I owe a big thanks to you. Thank you very much.

@@anitavirginillo Steve is wonderful!! There was this one time when I was gonna watch a video about cars on UA-cam (about 2 months ago), then an Ad of Steve playing the guitar came on before the car video started. Now normally I would just skip the Ad but somehow, I enjoyed the whole time watching the Ad from Steve lol (and it wasn't even a short Ad either, it was about 22 minutes), I and was just patiently watching the entire Ad, a little upset that it was an Ad so I couldn't go back any minute I want haha.
Subscribed to Steve right after watching the Ad lol.
Steve, if you're reading this. I love how detailed and thorough you are. Please please please dont ever change that. And you also have the ability to make complex concepts simple to the point where newbies could understand. To me, you're hands-down the best guitar teacher on UA-cam!

I'm broke until the end of January, Steve. Dang! I survive on $1016 per month, but I ain't "poor." That's how I feel. And Dolly Parton would probably agree, since I don't have "A coat of many colors." In fact, I have no coat. I just stay inside. A lot. That seems to work. It's okay to laugh now. And that (laughter) is said to be be good for your liver? Hope so. So it should be a positive ending, right?

Thanks for sharing your story, Ron. And I don't know for sure if it will help your liver specifically, but having a positive outlook helps in any situation. So laugh when you can, and when you can't, play your guitar. :-)
Merry Christmas, and best of luck in the new year!

Hi. I’m beginning on an electro acoustic guitar (l’m 62) and I need your advice to buy my first electric.
I like blues, country solos. (No hard rock or metal). Is it better to get a Strat Squier 50 or 70 or a PRS SE Santana or something else. Thank you in advance for your answer.
I love your lesson and send you all my respect from Paris France.

Thanks for watching, Flo! To answer your question, Steve always tells people, don't worry about what other guitarists are doing, just find the guitar that sounds and feels right when you play it. And Steve always tells people, if possible, you should actually hold the guitar in your hands and see what it feels like before you buy it. That's because even when 2 guitars are the exact same model, made out of the same type of wood, there can be a small difference in the way they play.
Here's a video where Steve talks about finding the right guitar for you: ua-cam.com/video/jSJ8IpvDS-c/v-deo.html
All that being said, any of those guitars would probably be great for blues or country. The PRS has 2 humbuckers instead of 3 single coil pickups, and humbuckers tend to have a "fatter" sort of sound, like what's used in rock and even blues, but they don't get used a lot in country music.
That's not saying you can't use them, country artists just tend to prefer a twangier sound. And if you want to get really twangy, you might want to look at Telecasters as well.
Watch Steve's video, and if possible, go to a guitar store and try out a few different models, just to see what they feel like. And if you find one that feels right, get it! Hope this helps! :-)

Hate to be a pest, but you "deserve" it. LOL
Common sense math says it's only 2/3rd"s as hard to learn to play on four strings as six. And you're the only teacher I've watched/listed to who suggested (as does) that. Congratulations. And thanks so much, Steve. You're one creative guy.

Around time 4.17 and just before you are showing the pattern with the outside strings being plucked together as being the end of the pattern. I was trying to figure out why mine didn’t sound right Until I realized you started with the inside strings first and ended with the double plucking at the end.
