    The 60 series cruiser …
The cockroach of the 4 wheel drive world
I’ve had a few of them
Not fast but will never let you down and go anywhere!
Around $17,000 was brand new price in Australia in 1980’s
But ours came with the 4 litre diesel …
Not fast but touquey and last forever …

Pity you guys in the US did not have the best of 60-series land cruisers.. You only saw the cheapest, petrol-only versions, whereas in the JDM and some other markets, they came with TURBO diesel, both front and rear cable lockers, PTO winch, plastic fenders which make wonders for the looks, 3rd row seat (most americans don't even know there was a 3rd row available), rear A/C and cooling box, suspended seats with shock absorber and weight setup and heated and lumbar and 3-point seatbelts on the back and so much more.. This was a fantastic car.

FF rear axle as well. You make a fair point, although many think the 60 series is great because of how simple and utilitarian it is and prices reflect that out here. Plenty of JDM spec 60s rolling around but they don’t bring that much more money if any

I'm really surprised that Comanche didn't sell. In my part of the Country (Minnesota), Comanches are super hard to find, especially with 4X4 and not super rusty. And when you do find a clean, 4X4 Comanche with the 6 cylinder, they go for big money (around $8,000 or more). I wouldn't have done the interior swap to that one though. I had a 1994 XJ with the 6 cylinder (those are still cheap here), and that was a great vehicle for me.

Haven't been in Jeeps in years, but that old YJ was double what I thought. The Comanche was/is super rare anywhere, but sounds like this one was needing a donor/spare to get fixed up. Wow !! Looks like Landcruiser still commanding high prices no matter which country. Second hand prices here in Australia are crazy.
60 series are a good classic rig, but the 80 and 100 series are so much more comfortable as an everyday drive and far more capable off-road as well.
I had a 60 and the leaf springs all round meant it was like riding in an old truck. Off -road it had limited wheel travel and used to get hung up on the leaf springs a lot.
I now have a 105 series and it's better in every way.

FJ-60 for sure but sustaining 70 MPH is asking a lot from its I-6 4speed combo, and once you get there it's certainly not happy. Mine was really comfortable at 55-60 which in modern day traffic relegates you to the right lane. It could also smell a grade a mile ahead, at which point you plant your right foot all the way to the floor and leave it there until you reach the summit while every semi-truck passes you. Rating: Cool factor 100%, Drivability, good as long as you stay on rural roads or surface streets around town. Off Road ability, as good as it gets for overlanding and moderate trails. Fuel economy don't ask. Cost of ownership? It's a 30 + year old vehicle but not bad once baselined and you are handy with a wrench. Oh, and if you live in a State that requires emissions testing, swap an LS into it or move. Thats why I sold mine.

That Comanche was such a Hoopty vehicle I would buy it for parts maybe and get one with a proper interior. To try to make them one nice Comanche after taking the best of both.
I am not a huge Land Cruiser fan, but that was the best vehicle here by far. Even for the price, if that motor craps out I would likely swap a small block Chevy into it. Better power, keep the hp and torque reasonable (300/350) and you are still in a great and reliable vehicle.

The YJ could be better with the 2.5L because the I6s could be TOO torquey. They had enough torque to bury the YJ in a snowdrift. The MPI 2.5L still bogged with 30" mudders churning through heavy snowdrifts in 4High. Then one could shift into 4Low and reverse out for another go.
ÇJ7s were offered with anti-sway bars...in the front only. YJs too. YJs got track bars though, even though they were often deleted by offroaders.
The YJs were advanced enough, but still simple and affordable. VERY moddable. The suspension could ride MUCH better with aftermarket upgrades and greasable bushings.
The 4.2L didn't really need more HP, IMO. It had great torque from down low. Mopar offered an MPI kit for it eventually and it was fine.
YJs with back seats also had rear seatbelts. They just had lapbelts until the newer sportbar debuted.
Jeep REALLY should have offered a YJ Scrambler with a tailgate. A swingate kills utility.
I had an absolute blast with my affordable YJ. It was my daily. It was my offroader. It was my continental overland explorer. It was my mini-pickup. I hauled with it. I towed with it. I wrenched on it.

The wrangler is valued more than a Corvette of the same year and condition, wow. I would think $1800-2400 tops. You are over double that.
This is the commonest garbage grade of Jeep. Still a lot more to love than a new one for that price.
That Comanche is very rare, and was a 4x4 truck. I guess no market, and needs rare parts? Sure its worth little, but more rare than even a Subaru Brat. $3-4k.
Since the Jeep brand has been sinking, its hard to bet on these, especially with them both relatively rough.
Land Cruisers that old weren't sold in volume, Toyota was a beater then. Really rare "premium" vehicle, with a stick? $8-15k as a recognizable collector's car.

The white sedan parked in the background, a 2000 to 2004 Subaru Outback, I could not see the badging but I remember that It was the most expensive thing in the line up whenI started selling Subarus when it came with the 3.0l 6 cylinder and the VDC traction package. $42,000 CDN in 2001, plus freight, tax etc. The same price as the cheapest Jag back then, a 2.5l V6, 5spd manual X-Type. Like I said, look , squirrel!

Wrangler - BUT, the 6 cylinder will last forever and the 4 will not. My old partner had a 6cyl Jeep that finally died after 325,000 well-maintained miles. Mind you, virtually everything else had been rebuilt, many components more than once (but the tranny went to 200K). Still, that is the best reason to buy one of these old Jeeps...the 6.
Comanche - ROUGH is rough, and this thing is going to take a LOT of work to bring a decent price. Yes, it has a loyal following...BUT it would have to be cheap, real cheap. Cheaper than $3K.
Land Crusher - Now, THIS you can buy with a ton of miles. The next generation is better because of the engine, but these are still good, and THEY really have a following. Still, I can't see $20K

for as much as i love the 1985 Patrol we had, we have to be honest, as fantastic they were for their build, they are garbage on the road. suspension designs are much better now, engine respose is better, auto boxes are much better. visibility was much better, but thin pillars meant noisy cabins. driving an 80's and even some 90's nostalgia cars means you have to actually drive the car, rather than just be driven by the car, modernity has really relegsted these cars to enthusiast only.

@@atodaso1668 out west where I wheel on places like Moab, Rubicon trail, King of the Hammers Johnson Valley, Sierra trek, etc. you need actual tires and lift to survive. I run 37” and mine are considered on the small size. I’m geared down, lockers front and back, 4 1/2 lift, alloy axle shafts, Warn hubs, etc. Stock tires won’t rock crawl the boulders out west. You can wheel a 4 banger on the rocks with 37 - 40 inch tires but you have to gear the axles, transfer case way down. Once you leave the trail and hit the open road it sucks. Lots of guys will trailer their 80s 4 Runners with 4 bangers or Jeeps to the trail because they suck to drive on the highway. An engine swap is a great upgrade, lots of V8 Jeeps where I live. The straight six 4.0 also work good off road because they have a lot of low end torque.

@@fastdude2002 Yeah I hear this all the time, I need X Y Z to do this. No you don't. I live in the BC mountains, we don't have special off-road courses, just actual wilderness. Learn to drive what you have, and respect the limits of your vehicle. My friends stock rubicon went up a river, and over a waterfall just last weekend. People with their lifted 4 links etc etc were scared to follow. There is a big difference between a dedicated offroad rig that you have to trailer to the trail, and a vehicle that you can drive anywhere and everywhere.

Never buy a Jeep with square headlights it's a Renault! And Tommy, you are mistaken. In 1979 Renault took a controlling interest in AMC/Jeep. So it was the French Car maker that made those idiotic decisions for AMC in the early 1980s. Why do you think that 80s model Jeep that you did several videos on had a Renault Transmission?

I think the final score was 1-0. Neither of you guessed "bust" for the two that didn't sell. Although a case could be made for 1-1 final score as you were both so nuts on the price that you should each score one for having guessed "buy".
