I'm from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 and I was surprised to this car in your shop .. I was like.. how did it go there !?? But any how I love your videos. Thank you for posting this. بارك الله فيك
AMD, this was great. Thanks to you and the owner for sharing. I see a lot of my 1979 Toyota 4WD pickup w/ the 20R engine in this Land Cruiser. My dad sold it to me at 120,000 miles. I put 120,000 more miles on it before selling it to my brother who put another 90,000 miles on it when he sold it. I should have bought it back from him. Tough as nails and would haul much more than its stated capacity without flinching.
We are fortunate to have you in the United States sir. Thank you for your enthusiasm and full expertise. BTW new owner of the Tacoma 4x2 Underground. It's basic as far as new Toyota trucks are concerned. It's good for me and I love it. And BTW..this is an awesome Landcruiser.
They are indestructible. In New Zealand while mucking around in a river a 70 series got stuck on a large rock and all 4 wheels were not touch the river bed. After a couple of hours it was left. It was sitting in the middle of the river for several weeks. It was checked to make it was still in place. On one check only the top part of the cabin was visible with the river running through it. When finally pulled out it fired in to life while being towed. The seats and seat belts were replace and the wiring was ok.
To be fair fresh water and salt water makes a big difference. I love Toyota, but I'm sure many other cars would have done the same. Years ago at a shop I worked at, one of the customers had bought a "cheap" flood truck (Ram) that had been exposed to salt water. As far as I know it was never fixed because the damage to wiring was so extensive.
I am from Afghanistan, in this part of the world, this is the car when we want to pose ourselves to others that we have a car, it bits every other cars like lamborghini etc.
I remember watching a video on Corolla's in Afghanistan, where roads were full of E10's and E11's, many if not all being left-hand drive. Do you know where all these corolla's are mainly imported from?
Beautiful Landcruiser. I am in Canada and years ago I had a regular cab, long box Toyota pickup with a 2.4 diesel engine, it was very basic just like the the one in your video
Hello Sir, I love these Landcruisers. Im from South Africa. We have these models here. The best vehicle. Reliable and indestructible. Great channel and videos filled with knowledge. 👍
These trucks are found pretty much everywhere, but North America. They are still common to find in Latin America, Middle East, Africa and of course Australia. You can even find 2024s and don't look very different from this one. They also had some other chassis variations available in short and longer versions. Same with parts, you can find them everywhere except North America.
THANK YOU for all the Land Cruiser coverage lately! Your spread of the complete Toyota line up through the shop is what keeps me watching this channel and recommending it to others! Amazing!! A+++ A1!!
Funnily enough the after market suspension Dobinsons is local to my home town Rockhampton in Australia. I went to school with one of the sons who I believe still run the company.
Magnificent Land Cruiser!! The quintessence of TOYOTA quality and reliability, found all over the world. The kind of vehicle which, in 1978, made me passionate about 4x4 vehicles. What a shame that with the ultra-restrictive standards that we have here in France, it is no longer possible to have these Land-Cruisers (especially sold in diesel, here). The examples - FJ, BJ, which have been preserved or even restored now have a very high value on the market of fans of these vehicles.
Wonderful video. It was really cool seeing how excited you were during this video. I don’t think you stopped smiling the entire time. We will never see trucks like this again
That exact trim model a bullet proof one is used by kenya head of state during parade inspection its green and most kenyan discipline forces uses those 75..70.79 series and defender 110-90 models its the common car most kenyan farmers own them too
I know it was no Land Cruiser, but my 1972 Hilux pick-up had both the external tie down fingers and the very same style of tailgate with the two releases. I actually loved that truck. 18RC engine and 4 speed transmission. You brought back memories.
These old brutes are as reliable as "John Wayne's" boots, as they say. They love to work. I have owned a carbureted "86 FJ62 series "high roof" S wagon for 26 years now, same chassis and suspension, different body, that's done over 700k km it still runs like new, no oil use ,the thing will outlive me. Yup, it seeps oil all over the place (anti rust system! Lol) but I know how to use an oil bottle and grease gun and the right hole to stick it in, so no problem. Just change in time and grease it and you're good to go. It's done many long trips fully loaded into the outback, never let me down.
I wish they would make these for us in the states again..We had pickups like this back in the 70's and 80's to haul campers, firewood, 4 wheelers, elk and deer during hunting season in Montana.. The old 4X4 chevy's were bullet proof that we used to haul fuel and tools to our logging jobs in the mountains of western Montana..We have lost utilitarian for style unfortunately..Simple, easy to fix and practical..
Thank you for posting this video! This brings a lot of memories for me too. I am originally from Jordan and I appreciate seeing this video. Toyotas and Lexus are the best vehicles ever made. I have few of them and now and will never buy anything else. God bless you !!
I absolutely love these things, they are unkillable. The moment I saw the front end, I noticed the Saudi national emblem on the grille. Depending on what country you're in, they all had local names for it; in Saudi they were called the "Shaas" from the word for chassis. In Kuwait, they were called "Abu Shanab", with Shanab being Arabic for mustache, because the early variants had a front bumper that supposedly resembled one. Good times, great trucks. For the first time ever, the newest generation is offered with an automatic transmission, which deviates from it's long standing tradition of having a stick shift only. Thank you for putting this video together!
That bar behind the cabin is a Roll/Crash bar. If the truck rolls over, which many of these 4 wheel drive ones that are high off the ground, do if not driven carefully. A roll over would crush the passenger cabin flat and kill the occupants, the crash bar would prevent that and basically protect the heads of the occupants from being flattened. The Windshield and frame above it would be crushed in a roll over.
AMD, The Land Cruiser 70/75 Series is the 'real deal'. I wish Toyota would bring them up to North American standards and sell them here. As I can survive without a solid front axle, my favourite has to be the Land Cruiser Prado 2 door. I hope some day a 2 door Prado with a 2TR-FE engine, manual transmission and tailgate mounted spare is featured on your channel.🤞🤞
Toyota needs to sell more vehicles. You can't get repeat business if the truck you sell routinely lasts 20 years if you take only a little bit of care of it.
@@troy3456789that is a crazy statement. Then a Toyota wouldn't be a Toyota and sales would drop! You want Toyotas to make poor quality vehicles? Insane.

@@herrera921001 Thanks for clarifying for the people who don't know. In the video the guy said that the 70 Series is the real deal and then said "but this is the 75", while the 75 IS part of the 70 Series range. Again, thanks a lot for this list. I didn't know many of these and always wondered if those numbers were just unused. Did they increase the numbers when they made the front wider for the V8? Also where is the 72?😂And models correspond to the existing numbers?
Love to see Mr Car Care Nut gush over this truck. As a person who spent over a decade in Iraq it gave me goose bumps to see this truck in America. These are ultimate road warrior trucks and you see a lot of these used by the military and in the mountains. I absolutely love these and I’m as happy as he is to see it, makes me really miss my time in Iraq, such beautiful people.
I drove a 1968 Land Cruiser back in high school in 1975, it had a three speed manual transmission on the column. I immediately fell in love with a manual transmission over an automatic transmission.
I live down under, I am wondering if yours had a 3.7 rear end unlike the later 4.1 standard diff, without full floating rear axles unlike the late models, I alway think of it as having a 4 main bearing copy of the Chevrolet 6, with a copy of the 3 speed box without any synchro on first.
And thats why I'm a Toyota fan...because of this model If you from Africa or middle East...this is what we call real trucks. Hilux and 70 series are the war trucks
Someone sat the brake fluid bottle on the side when topping up/servicing hence the rust rings from a little spillage, the suspension is dobinsons MRR i have the same on a 120 series
Salaam Alaikum AMD! I was an Indian expat in Muscat, Oman for 17 years (Throughout my school life). These FZJ75 Land Cruisers were quite common over there and what a beauty they are!!! The market for these vehicles is still bonkers ever since! One main reason is simply the ''tank level'' durability, very convenient for long road trips, patrol vehicles, daily commute, off road purpose, and many more!!! Oh man, these cars ignites the nostalgia of my days in Muscat!!! Much respect to your work and I wish you success!! -DD
@@brkbtjunkieGCC is Toyota's favourite market for the classic LC's. No wonder ppl always source them from Mid East. I'm surprised it was not Japan at first.
I own a similar model like this one but a diesel engine (1hz straight 6 engine) and it never lets me down. It's a 20 year old vehicle but still going strong. A very reliable vehicle, that simple and easy to maintain. Greetings from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬
I’ve spent a lot of time in Saudi, Kuwait, and Iraq during my Air Force days and was surprised that every truck seemed to be a tan or white Toyota!! In Saudi, the RSAF gave us coupons to fill up our military trucks (Ford and Chevy) and gas in Riyadh came out about a dime a gallon!!!
Oh, man, those pivoting triangular windows on front doors are such a cool thing. My Bronco had them, and they were a lifesaver, since the car didn’t have AC. My dad’s older cars also had them.
In Australia we called them Quarter glass windows. Almost every farm and cattle/sheep station had these Toyota's. Used by tradies as well even today. Greatest Work Horse as we called them I've ever owned. Bushyboy Oz.
Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone. That phrase does not apply as we lament 😥😥our lack of access to these REAL Land Cruisers.
and the 1970-80s Toyota Trucks had sounds my fav when you slide the h vac control and the heat door made the ump sound , turn signal flasher sound trucks where basic utilitarian manual crank windows extra cab is back in the Tacoma 6' box
Yes! Do more Land Cruiser stuff! I just bought a 2006 LX 470 last July after searching for the perfect one for THREE years. I love it! We’ve been taking it 4wd drive trails in West Virginia and so far it’s handled everything really well. My plan is to take it out west for a 2-3 month adventure in a few years and I’m trying to learn everything I can about them beforehand.
In Venezuela, leaded gasoline was used until 1999, so locally assembled J80s and J70 had carburated 1FZ engines, then fuel injection was used form 2000 and onwards.
I’ve had two modern HZ79s in Nicaragua and there really is no other vehicle that can replace this truck. In the US, I’ve become a 4Runner guy. Hope to own another in the 4.2L diesel, but I’m happy the new generations will still have the naturally aspirated V8. Promising that all of their trucks will not drop down to the 2.x turbocharged engines of today.
G’da from Oz... I have a 2002 HDJ79R cab chassis/single cab ute with the 4.2litre HD-FTE turbo diesel motor I have had it since new and it has a “meagre” 320,000 klms (200,000 US miles) on the clock. It has travelled nearly all of Australia’s outback tracks with more trips in the planning stage.... bloody great vehicle 👍
Thanks AMD for the vid! You mentioned quite a few times the 2UZ-FE 4.7 V8 as one of the hall-of-famer best engines, would you pls do an in-depth video on that engine or the 100 series Landcruiser some time? (Saw your great vids on the 80 and 200 series.)
Everyone says Toyota should introduce this vehicle here but the trend here in the US is for SUVs and rugged 4x4 trucks to either move upmarket or get softer or both. The Jeep Wrangler with each iteration has gotten more suburban mom friendly with each generation, for example.
Almost every farmer around my house(LATAM) has this Land Cruiser, never thought it was rare in the US. Most of them are this color or white, double cabin, and have a wooden truck bed. The hard top 2024(4461 V8 32V Diesel) model is worth $81k as of today.
I worked for a company that built 79 and 76's into armored vehicles for the military and special forces. They were very basic but built like a land cruiser. They were tough as nails and would never break down. The only downside is they had no power, but they would crawl up a mountain with ease.
It’s true that that six-cylinder engine was no powerhouse, but it was built to run forever. You’ll never win a race, but you’ll always get to the finish line.
So accurately said!!
If you have enough gas.
@@tomquinn607 very true, they were heavy trucks.

I love the old simplicity, I am really tried of all the tech
I drove a 1968 Land Cruiser back in high school in 1975, it had a three speed manual transmission on the column. I immediately fell in love with a manual transmission over an automatic transmission.
I live down under, I am wondering if yours had a 3.7 rear end unlike the later 4.1 standard diff, without full floating rear axles unlike the late models, I alway think of it as having a 4 main bearing copy of the Chevrolet 6, with a copy of the 3 speed box without any synchro on first.
And thats why I'm a Toyota fan...because of this model
If you from Africa or middle East...this is what we call real trucks. Hilux and 70 series are the war trucks
Nissan Y60-61 enters the chat 😂
-DD
Hope you enjoyed Oman 🇴🇲♥️
I frequently have to get parts from that area shipped to the US for my 100 series.
@@brkbtjunkieGCC is Toyota's favourite market for the classic LC's. No wonder ppl always source them from Mid East. I'm surprised it was not Japan at first.
I'm from oman 🇴🇲
@@user-mx2wi4zt5k Me too 😂😍
I love Toyota 💯💯💯💪🏿
I own a similar model like this one but a diesel engine (1hz straight 6 engine) and it never lets me down. It's a 20 year old vehicle but still going strong. A very reliable vehicle, that simple and easy to maintain. Greetings from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬
I wish Toyota would make this triangle windows in their trucks.
Thank you for sharing this! That is a beautiful truck! So fascinating and simple. Great video always.
Thank you, AMD. What a beautiful truck!
Amd, the smile on your face and your giddiness just cracks me up!!!
that front axle setup with those massive spherical hubs it's legendary. really cool truck
The 70 series body has been in production for at least 40 years now. That's the Land Cruiser in developing coutries. Very capable rig.

That truck is an absolute gem!
Oh, man, those pivoting triangular windows on front doors are such a cool thing. My Bronco had them, and they were a lifesaver, since the car didn’t have AC. My dad’s older cars also had them.
Wind wings.
In Australia we called them Quarter glass windows. Almost every farm and cattle/sheep station had these Toyota's. Used by tradies as well even today. Greatest Work Horse as we called them I've ever owned. Bushyboy Oz.
just seeing the smile, excitment and enthusiasm of mr. ahmed I was smiling and just cool to see!
This LC is gorgeous! I love my HE 200 Series but this thing is a dream rig, a true work of art. I will go cry my american tears now 😭
Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone. That phrase does not apply as we lament 😥😥our lack of access to these REAL Land Cruisers.
You have the last of bullet proof LC with modern luxury
I noticed the fan speeds are highlighted as a/c. Theres no button to turn it on and off. Just always on. Nice. Sick truck
OMG watching you for year thinking you were Mexican and didn't know your a true G like me:) 😀
He may not be Mexican but he does speak Spanish.
This is close to 4Runner. Old school. And we going miss anything old Toyota makes.
79 long bed toyota 4x4 had tie down hooks & clamp down rear tailgate&wingWindows ....🛻
nice truck there.
We here in South Africa, have millions of these here. Love it
The Best ✨
I wish we could go back to the old days like these! I would sport this in a heartbeat over anything being offered now.
and the 1970-80s Toyota Trucks had sounds my fav when you slide the h vac control and the heat door made the ump sound , turn signal flasher sound trucks where basic utilitarian manual crank windows extra cab is back in the Tacoma 6' box
Yes! Do more Land Cruiser stuff! I just bought a 2006 LX 470 last July after searching for the perfect one for THREE years. I love it! We’ve been taking it 4wd drive trails in West Virginia and so far it’s handled everything really well. My plan is to take it out west for a 2-3 month adventure in a few years and I’m trying to learn everything I can about them beforehand.
yea I really was bummed when Toyota did away with the ventilator mini windows.... they were great ! what a great truck thanks for sharing
I love cars like that. Simple is better
Those are every where down here in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 and i WANT ONE REAL BAD
In Kenya these are everywhere,. theyre so good you will get them brand new off toyota unlike most toyotas on kenyan roads.
That truck is a tank. You'd want to keep a safe distance from it, in a collision it will open up modern cars like a can opener.
Everyone says Toyota should introduce this vehicle here but the trend here in the US is for SUVs and rugged 4x4 trucks to either move upmarket or get softer or both. The Jeep Wrangler with each iteration has gotten more suburban mom friendly with each generation, for example.
This is the truck that truck people want, but they will not give it to us.
Almost every farmer around my house(LATAM) has this Land Cruiser, never thought it was rare in the US.
Most of them are this color or white, double cabin, and have a wooden truck bed. The hard top 2024(4461 V8 32V Diesel) model is worth $81k as of today.
Im currently in Colombia and this is LC territory. They are everywhere, these 4.5 are called CareVacas [Cow Face] idk why. Lovely machines.
Those trucks have been in wars for decades and they have won wars like champs.
Gorgeous vehicle!
I worked for a company that built 79 and 76's into armored vehicles for the military and special forces. They were very basic but built like a land cruiser. They were tough as nails and would never break down. The only downside is they had no power, but they would crawl up a mountain with ease.
I have a 2022 Chevy equinox in the shop right now getting a transmission replacement. The softest drives and on time maintenance it's hole life.
Wow, love those
I'm here in Kuwait and we drive them, would love to bring one back to the states with me.
That's piece of art and history now, What a beatiful thing:)
Beutiful machine...thx to the owner for maintaining this ...
Thank you AMD.
