  • EDIT JANUARY 17, 2022: I'm planning to upload an updated vlog, so if you have any questions that hasn't been answered below, please feel free to add them in the comments. Thank you!
    Since I've gotten a number of DMs about pen pal letters, I thought it would be ideal to make this quick video about the ins and outs.
    This is not, however, a guide that teaches you WHERE to find pen pals. Maiden Manila has a video covering that, so please do check it out. :)
    Anyway, hope this video will prove helpful to people new to pen palling (this was actually not a word back in the day, but it is now, so I'm trying to get myself used to using it lol).
    Gaaaaah. Just typing this description makes me feel so old lol. Anyway that's it. Please do give this video a thumbs up or even sub to my channel, too if you enjoyed watching this. Til next time!
    Edit: please check comments for additional shipping options.

    Hello! Thabk you for your video, this was really inspiring and helpful. I just have a question, For sending in phil post is there a specific envelope size? And what sorts if extras can I include in my envelope? Just stickers and paper goods?

    • @MariansNook
      @MariansNook  3 роки тому +10

      no minimum size for sure, as long as readable yung sender & recipient info, and there's space for the stamp / postage. as for maximum size, the largest I've been able to send was the size of a regular brown envelope. You can typically include little snacks, dried flowers etc. I was never asked to declare anything but it might differ from one post office to another.
      Also, meron din kasi service ang philpost na parcel etc, so baka if malaki masyado yung package, baka icharge ka lang mas mahal.

    Hello! I've been very interested in penpal-ing for a long time now so I've been using the Slowly app for an alternative. Although every letter only goes through the app only, in an email-like interface. I'm just wondering, where could we possibly find penpals irl?
    btw, thank you so much for this video! I was very discouraged in the past years since I thought I couldn't be able to penpal here in the Philippines but this gives me so much info and tips as a beginner :>>

      Hi. There are at least two Facebook groups that can help you find penpals locally. I think one is called Penpals, Happy Mails, PH or something like that, then the other one is Pinay Snailmailers ATBP or something like that as well. Just type snail mail or penpals Philippines when searching for Facebook groups and those two should come up. You can also head over to Instagram and use hashtags like #penpalswanted #penpalsph #penpalphilippines or #penpalph. Most of those posting using these hashtags are open to accepting new penpals. Hope these tips help!

      Hi. Because of the pandemic, average time varies greatly. I've heard of letters making it to the USA from the Philippines in just one week but some take months. If you want to make sure it gets there quickly, you might want to pay for express mail service (EMS) but it's very expensive (for me that is).
      Some people include items like bracelets in their letters without declaring this to the post office. Upside is cheaper fees. Downside is if it gets lost, it's not insured. You'll need to weigh the pros and cons. Hope this helps!

      hi there. to mail a letter, you will need to go to the office yourself. they'll weigh your letter then you'll be charged accordingly.
      PHLPOST has no online mailing services, but if you want to choose which stamp designs will be used on your letter, you can buy stamps online via Stamps on Wheels on FB.
      However, only paste the stamps on the envelope yourself if you have a weighing scale and you are sure how many stamps you'll need to use.
      Otherwise, just bring your stamps and letter to the post office and they'll tell you what to use.
      Hope that helps! 💞

    • @MariansNook
      @MariansNook  3 роки тому +3

      Hello! I'm not sure if that's possible? Kasi dapat ng PHLPOST buong Pilipinas. So as long as you provide your recipient's full name and complete address, sila na bahala maghanap ng way to deliver. Worse comes to worst though, pwede din yung recipient mo mag-visit sa nearest post office and mag-ask kung meron letter pinadala sa kanya. In cases like this, it would be ideal if yung sender, magbayad for registered mail kasi may kasama itong tracking.
      At the back of the envelope, sender info goes to the upper left corner, recipient's info is at the center.

      Actually mas madalas ako mawalan sa domestic (me to anywhere here in PH) rather than me to international. May mga nawala international to me pero konti lang. You can also pay for registered tracking para pwede siya i-track. For me, I recommend Phlpost kasi siya din pinaka affordable, pero yun nga lang matagal and there are a rare few instances na may mawawala nga. Oh, and another option is express mail service (EMS), yun mabilis na and may tracking din. And of course, there's always courier service but talagang expensive. So, ultimately, it depends on how much you're willing to pay for shipping. Hope this helps!

      hello! it depends on the destination / location of the recipient. can take just days if domestic while international usually takes more than a week at the very least.

      @MariansNook  2 роки тому

      It really varies but my last one from the US took 3 weeks (USA to PH, I'm assuming it's vice versa)

    Ate gusto ko po mag padala ng letter to canada at hindi ko alam kung paano ipapadala 😅 need po ba mag register sa website?

    • @MariansNook
      @MariansNook  3 роки тому +1

      No need to register or anything. ☺️ Just go to the nearest post office w/your letter, and someone there will weigh your letter. You'll then pay for the corresponding postage fee. Mas mabigat na letter, mas mahal. Mas malayo ang padadalhan, mas mahal. You can check rates on Phlpost's official website, and pwede mo din gamitin website nila to look up the nearest post office in your place. Hope that helps!

    Can I add little items like necklaces or the sort? :0

    • @MariansNook
      @MariansNook  2 роки тому +1

      hello! strictly speaking non-paper items aren't allowed in ordinary / registered mail, but many ppl can get away with it pa din, basta hindi halata sa envelope 😂 however, ang risk lang dun is hindi "insured" yung item if nawala yung mail.

    hi po! How do you determine grams in the letter po without a weighing scale?

    • @MariansNook
      @MariansNook  2 роки тому

      Haven't tried yet. I always just use a weighing scale to make sure I have enough money for the postage 😂 I mail out my letters by batch kasi. 😂
