They can "lose" money for over a year and still be way ahead of where they were three years ago.

      @@davidbeppler3032 what's the life of the vehicle? 100 or 200 or 300k miles? How many battery replacements would be needed over the life span? 1 new battery per 100k or 8 years (once warranty runs out)? That's roughly $13,000 for a single Model 3 battery replacement (according to JD Power). What about time lost when you have to wait to charge at a public charger (assuming you live at an apartment or can't charge at night like it is the case for millions for Americans)? Insurance costs have to be high due to long wait times and high cost of replacement parts.
      I can see the costs being competitive but I can't factor how buying at MSRP and then holding a Tesla Model 3 for 20 years would cost the same. Especially if you have to replace any parts.The wait time to charge and lack of parts factors negatively towards ownership costs compared to the ubiquity of parts for any Honda Accord from any generation and the speed with which you can fuel a car (10 gal/min [Federal max flow rate] with a 13 gal tank = 1.3 min to fuel up) vs 25 min for a Tesla Model 3 at a super charger (fastest advertised charge rate on WGN-TV for a full charge of 272 miles).
      Tesla's are not the most convenient vehicle and are not a great alternative to a reliable old car that is paid off or even a new hybrid vehicle. You can choose to own a Tesla Model 3, for better or worse. But at what cost?

      @LuckyLopez777 This market is a self-inflicted wound that had some assistance from the banks. Dealerships saw an opportunity to gouge and the banks enabled it by allowing 125% and up LTV loans. Of course consumers played their role too because of the psychology of FOMO. There were days when I would drive by the RAM dealer and see 35-40 customers looking at trucks at 8-9 pm. I stopped in to check it out and spoke to a salesperson. They were pushing hard with no money down with 84-month financing. I heard a salesman telling customers who were on the fence that the days of negotiations were over and never coming back. One told me that paying over MSRP is the new normal and not expect to pay less than or right at MSRP again in my lifetime. Of course, I knew that was complete garbage. Anyone with a brain could see that this was unattainable. I don't know where the mentality came from that every customer would just bite the bullet and pay 80k to over 100k for a pickup truck from now until eternity. If most people could afford the payment on a 100k truck Chevy would only sell High Country pickups. The manufacturers kept raising prices and only gave lip service about cracking down on market adjustments. All the gains the participants in this folly made by being predatory will be lost over time as lot rot increases and people start to pull the purse strings tighter. People like me who needed a pickup for work have found a workaround by buying a 16-year-old truck and a good used cargo trailer to get the job done. Other people who just had to have that shiny new truck who didn't need it for work are now finding themselves buried until they pay it off 5 or 6 years from now. Either way, neither one of us will be buying anything anytime soon.

    Most of the reason why these things got so incredibly expensive was what happened to the chip supply during COVID. The Big three realize they couldn't build many with the few chips they had so they decided to dedicate resources on high end products thinking they can be solvent doing so. Problem is this pricing strategy only addresses the top 5 or 10% of the potential customer base. Once supply came down to normal they Big 3 persisted on selling these trucks at highly inflated prices that only the top 10% can afford. They basically priced themselves out of the market and are stubbornly refusing to drop these prices back down to 2019 levels. Basically, the Big 3 will go bankrupt if they don't smarten up quick.

    • @davidbeppler3032
      @davidbeppler3032 6 місяців тому

      I am sure the leadership at the Big 3 understand that having more than 300 days of unsold product is enough. They will just close plants and fire workers until sales catch up to production. What I am saying is, if you don't buy the $120k truck they built, then you are ruining lives and causing people to lose their jobs. It is your fault.

      I hear you and am hoping they do.
      However, looking at the mature market, trends and strategies in the mobile phone market (yes I am making a connection here), that consumer market has been conditioned to buy new, buy often and be happy with it. Gone are the days of mobile phones lasting 5 to 7 years with removable, upgradeable everything (battery, led lights, face etc). People forgot those days and the time when being forced to buy every 3 years is ridiculous.
      Point is there is only resistance at the start but when people get trained, forget and get used to it, they accept paying more, accept lasting less and accept it as the norm. I hope to be wrong but they have implemented it in other industries and it worked. Cars are taking on the same trend and consumer attitude of technology oriented devices.

    I was at the dealer only auto auction in the Midwest and I saw a 2021 Ford Bronco Wildtrak(839 miles) run for a month before getting an offer of $52k(IF)... that's the retail according to Edmunds... The hysteria at these auctions are making most dealers have to or think or that they have to keep prices higher than reality.

    When the Rivian first came out it was priced at 73k before their price hike. I purchased mine at 91 with the base LA Silver paint, but had the off road package put on. You can get them for a little cheaper now with more mileage for the launch additions or even new with the dual motor instead of quad motors. I think there may be more to it than what you are saying here Lucky with the prices and the cost of fixing the vehicle. Most body shops and insurance companies are more less confused about how to price the fixes and fix... the damage. PDR can take care of a lot of things they are saying is worth 50k plus in damages.

    Good video.
    I've been running a repair shop since 1993. What I'm seeing lately is sad. Here in the rust belt people are still making payments on worn out rusted junk that they way over-paid for. In some cases they have to take out another loan to pay for a major repair.
    There's others that have the worn out vehicles that tell me they would get rid of it, but went shopping for a new one and said no way. They are spending significant money to keep the old ones on the road. Prices of used engines have gone through the roof - the yards must be onto this trend.

      KBB is their friend. Go to the west or somewhere without rust. KBB doesn't know the difference, just prices based on mileage, so you get far better product for same price from a private seller. Buy a used car that isn't rusted to hell. Make sure it has a significant oil leak so it won't rust to hell. Wham bam.

      @JackMehoff-iq5he 6 місяців тому

      @@gorkyd7912 looking at the 5.7, my local mechanics recommend against the 4.6 because it has less parts availability, less power, relatively the same fuel economy and is generally disliked in the community. I won’t get one of the new ones, I’ll do everything I can to never own a turbo powered vehicle. They add too much complexity and reduce the lifespan of the engine while also making vehicles less reliable.

    Nice looking quality vehicles for great prices.
