I appreciate your selecting me in making sure that your friends got this sad news. I can't quite describe my reaction, right now, because it s something like "this can't be happening." People having lunch at my senior center today were discussing someone's death; and I inferred they were talking about a writer, or a performer.. But I was in a particular hurry today, and I supposed I would learn later today about the passing of an aging Broadway star, singer, or musician. As noted, though, my reaction to this is far bigger. I never thought of this *classic *African American woman as old. She was ageless. May God rest her soul. PEACE. GB
I do consider this to be perhaps the most beautiful poetry ever written. I have to say though that I don't like it very much that people, including Maya herself, recite it with some liveliness - the laughing part, the dancing... I don't know, it reads so strong to me as a resistance piece. It also brings up so much violence. I can't make light of it and I think it's beautiful in its seriousness.
Okay and? Write a legendary timeless poem better than this then and apply all your comments. This wasn’t written or preformed for you😂 you’re the evil she speaks of.
