Resident Evil (バイオハザード, spelled Baiohazādo or simply Biohazard in Japan) is a survival horror game by CAPCOM and is the first game in the Resident Evil series. It was originally released in 1996 for the PlayStation and has been subsequently ported to the Sega Saturn and PC, then re-released twice on the PlayStation in the form of a Director’s Cut. This game has many modified versions. Resident Evil Director’s Cut was released in 1997 and it was a modified version of the Original game. In 1998, Resident Evil Director’s Cut with Dual Shock version was released. Dual Shock version also contains new soundtracks. Resident Evil: Deadly Silence is an enhanced version of the original Resident Evil for the Nintendo DS port and it was released in 2006. In 2002 Capcom made a remake of the first Resident Evil game on Nintendo GameCube. This game is often known under the informal titles of Resident Evil: Remake or Resident Evil: Rebirth (abbreviated REmake and REbirth respectively). In 2015, Resident Evil HD Remaster was released for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.
This game has exceptional graphics, characters have different voice actors and face models, the live action movies are replaced with animated cutscenes. Also, in Spencer’s Mansion new rooms are added.

I uploaded cutscenes of the first Resident Evil (PC UK cut version). This video contains all cutscenes from the game.
About the cutscenes
The first Resident Evil game has live-action cutscenes during the game opening and ending. In both American & Europe Playstation versions, live-action scenes are censored and black & white, while Japanese versions of the game have uncensored FMV. However some regions are exception. For instance, in Italian version of Resident Evil Director's Cut, live-action video is unsensored and in color. Also French, German and Spanish versions have uncut and color cutscenes.
In both American & Japanese PC versions, full motion videos are uncensored and in color. In United Kingdom there are two versions of this game:
1) Resident Evil - which is cut version
2) Resident Evil PowerVR "Uncut Version" edition - which is uncut version

Actors and actresses who played S.T.A.R.S. members in the live-action cutscenes were credited with first names or pseudonyms. We, the RE fans, don't have any information about them. We only know that Charlie Kraslavsky is Chris Redfield and Greg Smith is Barry Burton.

Love the cheesy 90's music at the end truly was a much more innocent time I used to play this game for hours back then as old as it looks now in the mid 90's it was way a head of its time the only other survival horror game to top it is the hd remake

Really bad lighting mistake when Jill is introduced in the intro. When she loads her gun and holds it up the shadow completely covers her face. I'm shocked they never noticed.
It was probably shot in natural light, considering that it's low budget.

Considering how slow most enemies were up until then and seeing it traverse areas that take around 3 minutes to cross in 10 seconds, I'd say that's pretty scary

Chris' sole survivor ending seemed the most depressing out of all the endings.
This is one of those gems that is great to revist almost 30 years later. I'll never forget being 9 in 1996 and playing this for the first time (my parents didn't know it was a violent game, of course -- only thing they were on the lookout for at this time was anything with Mortal Kombat in the title.)
Despite the obvious cheese now, at 9 and never having experienced anything like this, my blood was pumping before they even got to the mansion. Then, when I finally made it with those damn tank controls to the first zombie cutscene, I was genuinely scared shitless. I could barely bring myself to face that first zombie, leaving the room and waiting to go back inside once I felt I had the controls down enough to fight. Memories forever burned into my mind!

So far ahead of time this game. And in some aspects even ahead of the latest games with so many different endings and choices that impact the gameplay and story. Also even this first part started already with allowing for a short time to play another charachter.
Then the unmatched atmosphere and tension in this game. The great background music. It was a pure masterpiece at the time.
Only things that make it hard to play nowadays are the loading screens as well as the small inventory. And probably also the relatively high difficulty compared to games nowadays. The "easy" back then is likely harder than "medium" in most games nowadays.
