New Basement Home Gym

  • We recently moved into our new home in Ohio and building a commercial quality home gym was a priority. This was much more difficult than we had anticipated due to inventory shortages and delivery issues. We purchased the bulk of our gym through Rogue Fitness and some pieces, like the Precor FTS Glide, from American Home Fitness. We've been in the new home for almost 4 months and are still waiting on additional furniture for the 3,000 SQ FT basement.
    Upgrades channel will focus on Home Gym Upgrades, Home Theater Upgrades, Tech and Luxury Auto's. I'm looking forward to sharing more content soon.
    Coming soon: New Tesla Model S Review / Ceramic Coating,
    Home Theater Projector Upgrade, 2021 Volvo S60 T8 Recharge Inscription Review

    "You can stay the night at our house, but we ask that you please refrain from using the primary gym. It's for members only. You will have to use the guest gym with the substandard equipment. We also ask that you do not help yourself to the protein shakes in the kitchen. Those are an extra expense. You can, however, play pool in the billiards room at no additional cost if the owner needs a playing partner."

    Bruh.

    • @upgrades1

      I do love PowerBlocks.... the original stage 3 set I have is over 20 years old. They are like a loved one that just gets better with age. Can’t recommend a product more highly. I’ve had plenty of sets of adjustable dumbbells, all just seemed cheap and gimmicky. PowerBlocks are well balanced and have proven themselves to stand the test of time. I will be getting a fourth set of commercial PowerBlocks if they ever come back in stock 😀

    Excellent choice with the padded carpet tiles. We really don’t see them often but it looks very comfy and really makes the space feel bigger.
    I couldn’t imagine having the darkness in that gym that matting out the whole floor would make. Well done!

    Great Gym..I do agree with one of the commenters that placing your functional trainer in the strength training area will make a big difference in your workout if its part of your routine (you will have your rack, functional trainer, and dumbbells area)... one thing I found helpful in organizing my home gym is arranging items in the sequence of my typical workouts, and that really does get you in a rhythm ... Also I have to commend your choice of equipment both for strength and cardio, pretty much covered for any kind of workout.... If I would add anything, it would probably be wall mirrors in the strength training area, first because they do help a lot in checking form and motivating workout, but also they will make that area look more spacious due to its shape... few wall decorations won't hurt either

  • @BlueStreak706
    @BlueStreak706 Рік тому +3

    That’s a lot of money for a home gym. $35k? Whoaaa mine is under $1k, mirrors from ikea $60

  • @Kickbackfool87
    @Kickbackfool87 3 роки тому

    I'd have just made that guest area the cardio area and put the functional trainer in the main room, but that's a sweet basement, gym and all else. If that didn't all fit in the other room, I'd move what you could and also swap where the dumbbells are with where you have cardio because moving around those vertical beams would be more annoying while walking with dumbbells and wouldn't matter if an entire cardio machine fit between them since you're not moving once on the machine

    Man!...That is a dream!... Is flooring tile, laminate, floor mats... Not much echo perceived. I guess that to be a family friend, the person must pass a basic level of strenght and conditioning test. Out of curiosity do you train others, or have a private membership to train in that gym (I would just for someone using it). Once again, great set up. That property market value must have gone up $125k

    • @upgrades1
      @upgrades1  3 роки тому +1

      Flooring is hard rubber backed carpet tiles. Each tile can be replaced if one gets damaged, but they are extremely durable....

    Hi just z quick question how do you find the water rower compared to the hydro. I can't decide between the water rower and concept 2? Just wondering your thoughts?

    • @upgrades1
      @upgrades1  2 роки тому +1

      The water rower is the most realistic rowing feel. I also have a concept 2 and a hydro. Hydro is very engaging platform with great video training, but similar to concept 2 in feel. While I love the hydro and concept 2, the water rower gets more use.

      @@upgrades1 wow thanks for the reply and I'm quite surprised by your verdict but not to surprised either. I test drove a first degree apollo pro xl water rower and I was amazed how good it felt. Then got on the concept 2 next to it and was disappointed. I thought it was just me but I found I wanted to go on the water one again as it was so engaging. I'm now in a dilemma as you seem to be of the same thinking lol. Decisions decisions. I think it's just the monitor that's selling me the concept 2 and the online community but at the end of the day it's just me the rower and my garage gym. Thanks for taking the trouble on replying

    • @upgrades1

      Step 1 - flooring / color scheme
      Step 2 - determine budget for equipment
      Step 3 - align on exercise priorities
      Step 4 - choose equipment brand ( I recommend rogue, but also consider other brands based on budget)
      Step 5 - get dimensions of equipment and cut boxes to size to ensure you will have enough space and no overcrowding.
      Step 6 - order / build equipment
