Interesting reaction: people often refer to her "perfect imperfections" and I think there is something in that... there are many videos where what might be considered "mistakes" actually add to the emotional impact of her performance... her "I'll be there" at 10, with a bad cold, where at one point her voice "breaks" is a good example... the most beautiful, emotional break/squeal ever... (by the way, I discussed this recently with a fellow fan and also mentioned Joni Mitchell's recent performance, in particular of "Both Sides Now", at the Newport Festival... a voice that you could say is very imperfect but I absolutely love it.... )
During her recent live concerts there were a few moments of geniune mistake that were in a way, beautiful... as when she was talking and the band started and she said (with a lovely smile) "I'm not ready guys"... these things just make live performances more fun and memorable I think
I'm glad that u liked the emotional aspect of this live performance, I was there and it was magical. Love everything Angie does and what she is as wonderful human. I was standing only a few feet from Angelina during this performance. I was filming on my phone but had to stop as a could not confine. It hit me at the core so the tears were flowing. To quote another vocal coach that reacts to her “her imperfections are perfect”.
Did you catch the double bass players reaction during her last high note of crying out, when the band paused? He's been there from the beginning. His smile was huge like a proud father.
db I've been reading through the comments and was wondering whether anyone noticed him during her belt. For the sake of anyone else reading this, just to elaborate a bit: when you write he's been there from the beginning, I think you were implying that even though he (and the pianist and guitarist) has worked with her a number of years, he was still in amazement. But, for me, it wasn't the smile so much as it was his staring at the drummer and then nodding his head! Like, "That is definitely the real deal!"
@@tnae there are quite a few videos where you see her accompanying musicians, who know her well and must have rehearsed with her, reacting with visible awe during a performance... The "It's a Man's World" with a top Norwegian military band at 11 or 12 is such a one... It's remarkable I think that she can have such an effect on her musicians - her guitarist for quite a few songs, Ivan Mendez, said her singing was so beautiful he found it hard to concentrate sometimes... must be tough being so close to the "epicentre" :)
I liked your analyses. Angelina at that moment was in a "state of grace", as she was at home, singing to her friends who came from all over the world just to see her and feel all the emotion she transmits. With a jazz background, she does it her way, enhancing all the emotion. She can everything. The stage is your comfort zone. Angelina shines to perfection and rocks imperfections.
Brandon, the thing with the micophone stand, shw wanted to go over to her uncle Mike, son of the man she sings about, he almost cried, standing in front of the stage bodaguarding her. Elmar from Germany.
That's lovely. What I was talking about was before the song began when she moved the mic stand the cord got stuck under one of its legs. She had to go back to it a second time and adjust it.
Perfection is such a strange concept when it comes to art. What some might see as a shortcoming others might view as an artistic intention. Understand that this is a different version than the studio recording; the tempo has been slowed down to give her greater liberty to play around with the beat and phrasing for an intended feel. Those sections that you felt weren't as strong as her studio version might have been intended to sound like that to portray fragility.
Turns the first time she did a tribute to her grandfather who passed away she got halfway to the song and broke down and cried like a baby she bought the hands of her face the guitars with her just put his hand on her shoulder if you know what to do very sad so she still carries that in her heart
"If it was perfect, it wouldn't FEEL". Amen. When Angelina feels, we feel. That is at the core of the how Angelina pulls all of us into her world. She makes me feel a song like no other artist.
Love your approach and insight to Angelina's performances. There are many many examples of Angelina's ability to belt, but only when she believes it is appropriate and fitting. A fantastic example is "It's a Man's World" live performance when she was 12 - ua-cam.com/video/HEm7tGrjIKk/v-deo.html. (When you watch it, look for the band members' and conductor's reactions to her sustained belting.) For this rendition of Million Miles and other tribute songs, as other reactors and commenters have said, the high belting feels more like an expression of her personal pain than vocal gymnastics. I think we can also surmise that her belting in this song during rehearsal was probably a bit more subdued - check out the exchange between the bass player and drummer when Angelina hits the sustained high run.

Alan, it is very hard to comprehend the fact that all the music that I have experienced in my 75 years is new, and far better, when performed by Angelina Jordan, and it has meaning like it never has had before in the past with the AJ touch. In the movies we see stories about SUPPERHEROS that are fantasies, but in Angelina Jordan we have a real SUPERHERO that can use her powers to bring peace to all that experience her.
@@johnbattles1002 Yes...amazing to me how many think a 'cause I say so' reactor•••is one endowed with some kind of skill level that is beyond theirs or anyone elses ability. So hard to tolerate...
@@lindathompson3982 I feel you are being a little harsh here. I can hear nothing in his comments which suggests he thinks he is better than anyone else. Surely what we should expect from a Reactor is honesty and if their opinion of a performance is something with which we do not agree, so be it! The type of Reactor I cannot abide is one who comments positively just to encourage subscribers.
@@alberttenfootExcept that in this occasion the reactor was incorrect in his assessment that she “made mistake”..I’m guessing he doesn’t realise just how much jazz flows through her music veins.
@@kevingood4644 Totally fair. But incorrect isn't the worst thing. I'd correct him and move on. There is a zero percent chance everything she's done is intentional. We've seen actual mistakes. But as a vocal coach or trained expert, a lot of what she does intentionally would be incorrect or mistakes to people not familiar with her so much, especially her breath placement and breath control. Then for sure there is Jazz, and slow jazz, playing with the rhythm, going in front of and behind it. A very large plus, and a very large minus to the genre. Depending on the artist, the moment, and the listener. My only issue with reactors being unknowledgeable is when I get the feeling they are using her as a token 'honest' reaction to feel like they aren't being disingenuous or give their viewers that impression. No one knows everything, and this guy knows plenty. He's taught me a bit anyway. Sometimes I feel that while everyone would be kind to kid if they didn't get, or didn't like a performance they react to, or even adults, we get the occasional negative for the sake of it reaction from some, I don't get that from him at all. When you get someone going for a token 'honest' reaction, that also is incorrect it is way too infuriating for me. He is just knowledgeable, confident, but only knows so much about Jazz, and seems to take extra offence to some of our comments that are fairly tame. AJ has had to slowly teach many of us about Jazz, including me, and loads of reactors struggle with critique through text. Can easily imagine an awful tone and intent to text.
Thank you for recognizing these differences in the song, and also your appreciation of what she's doing. In my opinion, these concerts are the first time she took this original masterpiece and slowed it down for emotional effect. In addition to what she was feeling emotionally at times, I think she also had to adjust to the slower pace and that may take a few times singing it. Finally, the timing with the band had to be perfected and we don't know how many times they played it, but I assume not many. No criticism of the performance of course, but there are factors potentially that contributed to what you noticed. She definitely got into more of an even delivery once she proceeded past the beginning as you stated.
She cannot have had long to rehearse with her (excellent) band for those concerts in July... fortunately they know each other well having played together over many years....
Name my wife was there when she sang this song in person it was outstanding I like candy to your ears or from USA if you’re all way to Norway just to hear her we were 18 of her songs
Any time listening to or knowledge of jazz realizes that improvising with phrasing and tempo is at the core of the genre. Angelina is gracefully dancing on top of the melody here in this version. She is a jazz genius. Lord we don't need another pop princess.
Angelina was meant to be enjoyed, savored like a vintage wine, luckily that's all I have to do. One can try to explain her ability, her voice, at their own risk. Thank you for the reaction, thumbs up sir.
Your eyes teared up Brandon. I play. It was beautiful to see your face in this. Thank you so much ❤️ What some perceive as imperfections is Angelina's perfection. Jazz singers are much different. Have a blessed day! ❤
I like her regardless of any mistakes, mostly only voice coaches would notice that. Remember, she is still very young and that song was written when she was quite a bit younger even. I like that she sings jazz instead of going towards pop.
Oh yes. Please don't think I am trying to tear her down at all. Just commenting on what I see when I see it. She is an amazing talent and a lovely young lady. I have immense respect for her voice, her artistry and her heart. Thanks for watching with me.
Maybe not to YOU, sir! But to me, and to untold thousands of others, yes, she is vocally perfect, as well as in her emotional connection to all of us. Have a nice day!
Angelina the first time she tried to sing tribute your grandfather I was on mama always on my mind she didn’t make it a way through she broke down and cried like a little baby it’s very strong emotions for her and I understand what you’re saying about start off the watchlist Siri what time I seen it what are you doing bubbling in Fiddlin she never gets overtired was pretty noticeable but she’s an Overcomer and she’s strong physically and early I love this girl she’s a great humanitarian she’s raise millions of dollars for children’s charities
There were three official releases of this song. The first was a lyric video. A quote from Angelina says her tears were streaming during the recording.
Wonderful reaction! Her band is very sensitive to her feelings, pacing, and nuances. They gave a wonderful silence after that big big note for her to enter back into the rhythm slowly. And backed her in a beautifully quiet ending. This song always makes me tear up, thinking of my losses and appreciating that Angelina wrote this song, she said, for all of us who have lost someone to feel we're not alone.
As far as I'm aware, this was from the first concert she did with this band this summer. It seemed to me that they spent this concert getting to know each other as the consecutive concerts were better.
Actually I think this was the 4th of her summer concerts.. Allsang på grensen was first, then Kurbadhagen on 1st July, then Kongsberg on 7th July and then this one, Kurbadhagen again on 10th July..
That last "belt", in my opinion, is a cry. In this song, that belt is her desperately crying out to the heavens. Thats why she's not showing pride after it. Thats her literally reaching for the stars
I like your breakdowns but I don't see mistakes I just see a new performance which is maybe more heartfelt. But she never sings a song the same way twice. It's always new. Love the reactions. Keep them coming. Don't take the negative comments personally. Her fans are very protective. Love from The Land of Vikings, home of The Kensington Runestone, and the largest population of Norwegian Heritage in America, Mid-Minnesota. ♥👣👸🏻
She sounds like she's about to cry throughout the entire performance, but I think it was exactly as intended and not because she was actually on the verge of tears because in the middle she smiles at the audience when expressing a totally different emotion in her singing.
AJ doesn't show her belting power that often and when she does it's like "Oh Yea " ,during this concert her grandmother has had medical issues and I think that caused a flood of memories ..it was so emotional to listen to but you could tell the audience loved her and the song .enjoyed your reaction it was very insightful 👌
To me the single biggest difference between the in studio and this is the cadence. Next is the recording of picture and sound from a cell phone. Look at how far away they are from the stage and sound system off center. Belting. Check out Angelina live on a TV special at age 10 singing feeling good. Then check out her performance of This Is A Man’s World live on stage with the Norway National Band age 12. Thank you for continuing with Angelina!
I like your reaction to this performance...angelina telling us a story , like nobody can in the same intencity, always jazzy technic. I love this slower performance from millian miles. The band is also amazing. Now 16 years old and definitly a diva for ever, the goddess of music/voice 👑♥️🌹💫
Personally I like the way she slowed the song down slightly (not everyone agrees I know) To me it brings out even more of the emotion of the song. And of course that extended belt near the end is just jaw dropping! Looking forward to the upcoming reactions.
The studio live version gets to me so deeply I can't put into words....this live performance goes even deeper, touching my soul and beyond , simply wonderful . Just love all the points you hit spot on!
A point to keep in mind, her mom and uncle were standing in the front row, her grandpa, their father was the the subject of this song. This had to be on her mind, singing this to them as well as the audience.
Thank you for reaction. AJ covers "This is a .mans world" Belts like she owns that song with a full orchestra backing her Amazing vocals. If u haven't all ready ... please check this out.
Yes, perfect in her imperfections, I get a tear in my eyes and a lump in my throat just listening. Such control even being able to sing such a personal and emotional song. @@lindathompson3982 agree. Angelina is a musical genius who knows exactly what to do by placing the notes or emotion just perfectly right though it may be perceived as imperfect. I am not very eloquent in my speech or writings. Forgive my truly imperfect phrasing
Bravo, this song is so difficult for Angelina to perform. It is painfully obvious how much she loved and grandfather, as she does grandmother Mery, her sister Juliette and her parents.
Nice reaction. There are better recording of this one, this is just a cell phone. This is actually both Million Miles and 7th Heaven. ua-cam.com/video/bnd-DkPzTPw/v-deo.html I know its not always easy to find good recordings of some of work. Its one of the reasons some of her fans archive and catalog them, not infrequently because they vanish.
I think I heard her do that one other time in her versions of it’s a man’s world with the military band behind her it’s excellent check that one out too. Love all of your explanations and your reaction it seem right on point. 🤟💕
I don’t take issue with the comment about mistakes. But I’ll note the Angelina’s intent is to deliver the emotional impact of a song. So, if there seems to be an emotional aspect regarding timing or something else, Angelina wouldn’t want to change a thing, I don’t believe. Consider how many “imperfect” videos she’s published over the years, where the emotional continent has overtaken her. And yet she published those.
foghorn Recently, she was asked what kind of music she's been listening and attracted to lately. She named a couple of artists, maybe a couple of genres, I don't really remember. But what I do distinctly recall is her mention of lo-fi.
Yes, I agree with you. There are many quite intimate videos of Angelina from as very young age on her grandmother's UA-cam channel Angelina Jordan Fanclub Mosarz. - ua-cam.com/channels/hM_lpT4shdnsez93QMJPig.html She is the only person I know who from a very young age has been so comfortable in her own skin that she has no fear of people seeing her in many moods. There are very few people who are as transparently honest as this remarkable young lady.
@@103mrg yes, BigAngieFan had me think of it in a video of his. Then with your full definition yesterday. This makes so so much sense in helping explain Angelina. Why she does interesting and 'incorrect' things with her breath placement and breath control, why she is so attracted to the toying with the rhythm of slower songs vocally. Why we've seen so many imperfect videos, which are seemingly all the better for it, and she seemingly made a point to show her mistakes that she could have easily edited or re done. We'll never explain Angelina or understand her, but that definition and mentioning how she mentioned it at 14 as a major musical interest, should be passed around her fans as much as possible I think. I'm not the smartest, maybe most know about it and thought about it, but it seemed a revelation practically to me. The theory of not chasing perfection in music, and leaving perceived mistakes or mistakes in it. As in, don't care about the rules, and find the charm in the mistakes. In a sense she has gotten too good, her vocals are way less raw, her English is her first language pretty much by now, clarity and diction has become a choice. So we should be happy she has other ideas for remaining real and moving us. I feel like this should be big news for angels, since we seek understanding of her a lot of the time. She's a magic we aren't even afraid to uncover, because she'll still be magic. It's something Nobody discusses, and only really one reactor has been naturally thinking his way through it, noticing her intentional breath decisions and how she considers it a part of her art, vocals and performance. BEL Development, something like that? Between him, BAfan and you I feel like my understanding of AJ has gone from like 2% to 4% which is a lot really.
@@ryanjacob3338 Naw, I don't think your understanding doubled because of us. I think you knew intuitively all along. The 3 of us only put a label on it and said it was musically acceptable. But you didn't need us, however, for you to know what you already knew. (But, still, thanks for your kind sentiment.)
Give a listen to Funny Valentine when she was about 11 when she was younger. There is a section when she was belting not in a modern style but retro style reminiscent of 1940s or earlier. Also impressive.
I completely agree with you. Those present could feel the emotions in this. Some fans might defend her performance from the "mistakes" but l think you are right. But I felt this performance more here despite the timing issues. Don't worry about oversensitive fans. It would be ridiculous to assume everything she does is flawless. Angelina is a once in a lifetime artist. But even she works hard to get better and continues to hone her craft. In fact l have seen a clip in which she says that very thing.
Here is another live performance of Angelina singing this song a few days earlier at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival - professional video and audio: ua-cam.com/video/joKQeVbThzE/v-deo.html
I think you got it pretty good 👍 A slowed down version with the cherry on top at the end ❤️ I was so Lucky to be there at this concert and yes, I cried after that performance, thinking about both her loss and my own losses through life... 😢 Especially that belt at the end... felt like a primal scream reaching her grandpa wherever he is ❤️ A few days before this, there was a concert in Kongsberg and the performance of Million Miles there made me also cry, because it was amazing and emotional. I lost my dad when I was 13 years old and he was only 37 so it was really hard and I felt wrecked as young boy. This song is so powerful and personal to me that I will cherish it to the day i die ❤️ And so thankful to Angelina for making it ❤️ That became a long one, but felt i had to explain my emotions ❤️ Wish you a great day 👍
Perhaps when a song is particularly emotional or heart based you could let us watch the whole thing and THEN talk about the ins and outs you saw and what one can do when singing such a song etc.. For me .. you broke this up so much with your comments that I wasn't able to be with her. Thank you for all you said, however, I appreciate it. I am going now to find a solid version of this without reaction. Thanks for your sincere caring for her. We certainly share that love. She is so very special and dear and yes, in my heart.
Stunning reaction to a stunning performance..well done and thank you for sharing your passion for Angelina..you seem to really feel her..particularly in this performance..As others have mentioned, the mistakes are deliberate playing with timing..that belt eh! grandpa heard her!
I totally agree this is a very impactful performance and that performance need not to be perfect to be impactful. I appreciate all the insightful observations you make, it gives me new insights as well also when my views are a little different. We’re different people so having different ideas and insights is the rule rather than the exception. After this preamble, of course now I’m going to explain my view which is a little different, not better, not correcter. I agree it didn’t sound perfect and I also agree it didn’t matter. I think the band had a little trouble matching her tempo: they seemed to be intent on playing the song a little than she was aiming for and/or trying to mach her tempo at every turn. Angelina typically likes to play with the tempo, rhythm and pauses (typical for jazz) and the musicians should be keeping a strict tempo and not play with the tempo as well. This minimal mismatch would have been solved it they had been repeating a few times more I feel. That’s what it sounded like in my ears anyway. I agree she didn’t look extra happy and satisfied after that prolonged belt. I would not say she thought it was an old trick either. I think she was giving this long belt as part of her performance and the story she wanted to tell and that belt had a place in that story sending a cry to her grandfather. I think she was still in the moment, in the performance and was not reflecting on that belt, but concentrating on continuing the performance. I hope you find my view somewhat interesting :-)
I like other performances of this song because they slowed this one down so much that it detracted from what I expected. Her vocals were great but I just like faster pace of her official MV.
Thank you for your reaction. Though this is a fairly decent recording from Mattias, the superior, great video audio comes from this live TV2 production from Kongsberg concert that Rusty Shackleford uploaded to his channel.....If you really want to hear all the nuances of her vocals this is the one you should view: ua-cam.com/video/joKQeVbThzE/v-deo.html. This one in my opinion is flawless and simply incredible. Again, the vocals in this recording may not sound pristine as it is recorded on a cellphone and from this angle you are mostly hearing the bass. The link I have given you is recorded as part of a Norwegian TV production, so top notch all around. You really need to listen to this one to really understand just how great the live version of this song really is. Hard to form an opinion on a cellphone recording IMHO. Cheers, stay well
I love this version, It's very emotional and I agree that she seems to battle with her emotions. I think that the fact that this version is paced quite slower than usual makes it more challenging to sing and makes her sound more "pitchy". I think that they would gain by upping the tempo a bit. I'm not a vocal coach or a producer but that my little 2 cents.
Sorry? Sincerely, we must b listening to different singers. I am a classically trained pianist and am gifted with a perfect ear...'Your opinion- ur entitled, but, in my opinion, Pitchy' does not apply here...not one time. TTTTBank. 😉

@@geoffreynorth9046 She's a mermaid in disguise, no need to breathe 🙂
@@claudest-gelais8456 ha, ha..... I was thinking something of that kind must be the only possible explanation ! :)
@@geoffreynorth9046 One of very few I guess😆.
I believe that’s actually what Brandon was saying and it’s so true
I recently learned the Norwegians wear flower wreaths as a symbol of eternal peace.

Angelina is so clearly very spiritual.
Wouldn’t classify anything she does as a “mistake”. She is the most unique singer in the world, everything is intentional
YEP!!
@@johnbattles1002 Yes...amazing to me how many think a 'cause I say so' reactor•••is one endowed with some
kind of skill level that is beyond
theirs or anyone elses ability.

Can you imagine, in 2025 Angelina will still be a teenager at 19.
It sounds primal.
Sorry u've wasted ur breath on this reactor, as he sees his glass as 'full.'
Gracious.
Awesome reaction, breakdown, God bless!
Her performance of this on a different night when she wore the silver glittery dress is my favorite. She is grounded the whole performance
I wondered if she just dissided slip that extra high note in there while she was up in that high belt.
The base player looked very surprised lol.

This reaction by this coach is one of the best insights I’ve heard when listening to Angelina. He’s very talented himself,
Thanks! ❤
Yo Yo Ma has some great quotes about creating beautiful music, and they typically dissuade playing notes technically perfect.
douglas Have a look above at my reply to Foghorn.
@@geoffreynorth9046 - you are of course spot on correct. 😀
I had the pleasure to be at all 4. I'm still recovering 5 months later. 😍

That's a perfect jazz vocal.
Her voice cuts right through you !!!

Thank you for posting this.. it's beautiful..
A much slower version to her studio performance this shut up some haters who said she wouldn't be able to reach them high notes live .😊👍

The thing you can be sure of with Angelina's fans is that you cannot go back too many time 😉
I like other performances of this song because they slowed this one down so much that it detracted from what I expected.
Cheers, stay well
That video from TV2 was from a different show.
This is already put on charge UA-cam. I did it myself. Yes I did.
Ever seen your tongue tie before but this is personal after it’s harder to get through it she’s very very close to this song you know that
Holliwood sacrifice.
I am a classically trained pianist and am gifted with a perfect ear...'Your opinion- ur entitled, but, in my opinion, Pitchy' does not
apply here...not one time.
