interesting fact : after this movies release there is an actual group of people that truly think they are in a simulation. dont know exactly what this condition is called. but it's very real.

I remember watching this at the movie theater. It’s insane how well this movie has aged.
I've watched "The Truman Show" more often than any other film, at least 30 times. There was a time in my life when it "spoke to me", and I was watching it twice a week for months.
I’ve been like this before. There are times in my life where I’ve watched the same movie every single night for months.
Yet, despite countless viewings, it’s surprising how much I’ve forgotten the movies I once knew inside-out, years later.
Now is the time to release 4k Abyss with all the submersible talk
Peter Weir one of my favorite directors. I just pray that they one day do a Master and Commander 4K Atmos remaster and do it justice. Would be mind blowing and probably the best Atmos mix of all time.
The Truman Show is a top 5 movie for me. I didn't know it was coming out and as soon as I saw this video I pre-ordered it.
Weir's other masterpiece, Master and commander needs a 4k release now
Paramount need to release a super duper re-scanned 4k version of Planes, Trains and Automobiles with deleted scenes et al...!!!!
I actually bought the Blu-ray for this movie and returned it as soon as I heard the 4K release was coming. Excited to get my copy! I haven't seen this in years!

Love this movie.
The included regular Blu-ray is the old poor transfer. Pity Paramount didn't upgrade that too. Perhaps a reaction to the universal double dipping criticism of Paramount releasing 4k transfers on regular Blu-ray followed a year later by the 4K UHD disc. Be careful what you wish for!
I just watched a 2K stream at AMC+ and it didn't look bad. Must be a newer transfer than the 2008 Blu-ray! Enjoy!!

One of the most important movies ever made. It was way ahead of it's time. We live in The Truman Show right now. It's horrifying.
I agree. It's always cool to get Atmos. Not every movie needs one, but it's cool to get. Also happy it's a great mix as well.
@@Spider-Man1408Every 4K release could have Atmos, and it's always cool to have on a disc (even Disney At-Mouse tracks imo), just sometimes it's not really necessary. For example, it wouldn't really be much of a benefit if a movie like 12 Angry Men got an Atmos upgrade. But again, it's always nice when the effort is put in to upgrade a movie's audio track

This film and Eternal Sunshine are JC’s best IMHO and both look scrumptious in 4K.
You know the bit near the end with the TV voiceover explaining about the show - ‘Now in its thirtieth great year!’ etc? I could hear that bit on the video, but not on the dvd or blu ray. Has this been fixed on the 4K?

Thanks Jeff! I feel every 4K release should have an GOOD Atmos upgrade/track because to me.. its about 1/2 of the reason for the rebuy of old/price of new 4K discs. Mark my words .. after we all buy these sub par 4k releases they will do (new&improved upgrades that now include a new "Upgraded Dolby Atmos Track" and we will be forced to rebuy yet again.
Funny enough, the 4K resolution is one of the lesser reasons why I buy 4K Blu-rays. HDR and Atmos/DTS:X upgrades are way more important, I think.
I have the DVD and was waiting for the 4K to come out to enjoy a better resolution for this good movie.

The Mask needs a 4k next.
What we also need to compliment this is a 4k blu ray of “Man on the Moon” which has got to be one of Jim Carrey’s finest performances. I mean do we even have a blu ray of it as I still resort to watching an old DVD copy of it.
Such an underrated movie with tons of subliminal messages

have to mention the superb music score which also serves the film the anthemic compositions giving it real emotional weight from three composers Burkhard Dallwitz, Philip Glass and Wojciech Kilar who did the score for Coppolla's Dracula.

What an amazing movie! This is one of those movies that should be remembered and talked about by more people. It's a really creative story and well acted/directed. Glad to hear the 4k is a good transfer. This 4k is on my wishlist.

A sequel to the Truman show where Truman is living in the normal world as an older person years after he escaped would be fascinating
Yes! I think they could pull it off, something like how top gun Maverick. However they would really have to do a great job otherwise I wouldn't want it.

I’ve been waiting for this review, finally
I watched Weekend at Bernie's, and the quality is HORRIBLE. It's like what you said, DVD upscales. There are quite a few early Blu-rays that simply don't have the quality you'd expect from a 45Mb/s 1080p video. Also, a lot of older Blu-rays use VC-1 instead of H.264 probably for licensing reasons, but the quality of VC-1 can cause blocking artifacts and other issues like MPEG-2. Not ideal.
Even still, having _any_ Blu-ray edition is better than DVD. Because of the interlacing issue, and low resolution, Blu-ray is just _so_ bad. I can't watch anything on DVD because of it. The horrible quality is too distracting.
Have you done a "Best of" for Atmos?
I upgrade to 4K based on the sound as much (or more) as the picture.
TBH, I never liked that movie. I saw it a few times but I am more partial toward Eternal Sunshine and the Spotless Mind. I also wish we'd get a Being John Malkovich 4K release.
Just picked up my copy and totally agree. This flick has also aged very well. Crazy to think Dennis Hopper was the original Christof.

Regarding the audio, on my copy, the music drowned out the narrator of the TruTalk introduction. Granted, I don't even have a soundbar, let alone a full speaker setup, so maybe it's just a technical limitation on my end.
Is the Blu ray in this pack the same as the original Blu ray or is this the new transfer?
A review I read says the Blu-ray included is identical to the original Blu Ray release, the new transfer is only on the 4k disc

Yesterday It arrived on my shelf at home from ordering last month. I played it yesterday night and finished it today (because I was very tired of work, i fell asleep at almost the end). The std bluray is included in this package but I did not watched that. The 4K is an upgrade for the DVD I got many years ago. I can say that this is a very good picture quality Dolby Vision HDR (I prefere this over std HDR10 though). Awesome release!
I'm curious, does this come with a standard Blu-ray as well? If so, has that been remade?

This was an enjoyable gothic romp. Nothing groundbreaking but I'll take a sumptuously filmed, well paced, professionally acted period thriller over most of the stuff that's coming out nowadays.A welcomed surprise...

This movie really affected me as a young teen. NGL I thought for quite a while I was in a simulation like this, this scarred me pretty bad
Same! It’s funny because I actually hadn’t thought of this in quite a while, but I was like 10 or 11 or so back then and I used to occasionally think this about myself/my life as well… even before the movie came out😬
I didn’t really have a “word” for it back then (although “simulation” would’ve been a good fit had I known of it back then, lol…), and I never thought of it as a “TV show” or anything (iirc), but I do remember thinking everything all around me was “put on” most of the time, generally because it would legitimately feel that way fairly often, lol.
But the thing that always *really* messed with me though, was that I only really started thinking about it around the time shortly before seeing the trailer😳
So naturally, when I saw the trailer, I thought it was “them” showing me something, or sort of “teasing” me in effect, especially since Jim Carrey was also my favorite actor at the time, lol (I was obsessed with The Mask and Ace Ventura 1&2).
Crazy that a lot of us have all shared the same feeling at one point or another! Certainly makes for a great premise for a film, of which this is a perfectly executed version, in my opinion👍
@@RyanWard1987 that’s so interesting Jim Carrey was my favorite actor at the time too Ace, Dumb and dumber, I had seen the mask probably 100x. Not exaggerating lol.
Yeah I remember feeling very troubled of the idea that everything was fake around me. It made me sick for years. Can’t express how deeply this movie had an affect on me. Now I’m going to by it on 4K lol full circle.
Another thing is I grew up Mormon, served a 2 year mission and everything. Now I’m out, found out everything about Joseph Smith, Book of Mormon … found out it’s a fraud. I bring this up because a lot of ex Mormons reference this movie as their exit from Mormonism lol. So In so many more ways this movie has felt like my life. Thanks for listening. @@jesse1008 That’s so crazy, haha!! I have heard so many horror stories of people trying to escape the SLC Cult, happy you made it, lol. Very interesting that The Truman Show has been a sort of “red pill” (or analogy for it if nothing more!) for a lot in the Mormon community, that’s wild!
But yeah you also described the vibe/feeling way better than I did (plus how could I forget Dumb & Dumber?! I swear to you, I could quote *every single syllable* of that movie😂🤣 watched it at least a 2 times a week back then!) Full circle, indeed. Just a question : how long would it take to convert a movie into blu ray 4k by a blu ray company like kino or vinegar syndrome? Just a wonder
I tried grabbing this at Walmart on release day and they told me it was an online only release. So I grabbed it from Amazon and sadly it just arrived with a damaged slipcover, a sticker on the back of the slipcover like it’s freaking GameStop and a broken case. Overall very disappointed with the shipping on this one

First time I saw this movie I was 18 and I love it back in 08 still love it till this day I got the bluray copy I got it for 8$ I found it to be ok

I can run that 4K disk through handbrake and get a better 1080p bluray copy then they put out 15 years ago 😂

The 4k has lost all the colour, looks really washed out and is nowhere near as sharp as the bluray.
