One of your most informative, balanced reviews to date. I like the new stance details. The new background jazz was unexpected. Do I need to pour myself a glass of wine for the upcoming Gremlin review? Stay classy AS.

Excellent review. I tested the first Orca prior to it hitting the stores and absolutely loved it. Was trying to to buy it for the past 3 years but always sold out. got my hands on the 2021 version and although I still love the board it is less playful than other versions but the trade off is that you can charge a little harder with this one and it actually is lighter and floats a little better on powder. So if you want something a little more aggressive go for this version, a little more playful for for the older versions

Killer board. I absolutely love it. I’ve always rode a twin and this is my first directional. Rode it 2 seasons and can’t wait for the next. Never skips an edge. Kills it on icy days. Powder is next to effortless depending on the type. Bought mine 3” too large at 153”- and I’m 5’8- 195lbs. Still a joy to ride after slight learning curve. My favorite board of the new era, until something better comes out…

I have and Orca and a Skunk ape (size 11.5 boot 190lbs)
The skunk ape bombs a little harder straight on groomers and chunder, has a touch less control in most all conditions. I got the skunk for early season to be a quasi rock board, but to be honest the orca is just an all around better board. It does pretty much everything better than the Skunk ape. I jumped on my buddies jones Mountain twin (exact same size and bindings 157/58 wide) and that board was CONSIDERABLY better than the skunk ape in everything BUT deep powder. My conclusion was that the orca actually did put it all together, it has sensitivity and touch and play on hard pack but also floats and responds amazingly in deep snow.

    • @ryanfleming2091

Had a similar experience. Got the orca for powder, but it's effectively replaced my entire quiver. Which admittedly isn't huge (I only have a never summer snow trooper) but I couldn't be happier with the Orca :)

Demoed Both these boards a few weeks ago at Stevens pass and agree completely. Rode the Skunk Ape the first couple days and had fun but it had a couple quirks and would occasionally surprise me by catching edges. Traded it for the Orca and kept that for the rest of my trip. Easy to ride on the groomers and floated great in the powder.

I tested this Orca HP 2021 last week. It is really too stiff for me, did not enjoy it very much especially in the forest, tight turns were not easy at all. Carving was not real carving, so I'm a bit confused about the hype around it. I guess, if I ride it on steep half meter of powder, then I could like it :D

Good review and he is right. (I had last years model and the new one now) but, personally I really feel the new is a little better for the most users that are looking for a board like that. Anyways, it’s MY favourite at least :) did try the new Salomon dancehaul, and it’s good, but C2 rocker is the way to go for most people I believe. “Traditional” Camber just doesn’t feel right on a board like that.

Think this would rival a 420 or the Sushi for deep snow in the trees? The look and specs make it seem more like the Optimistic but with less side cut. I did see you compare it to the Kool Bean which says a lot given how pow specific that board is.

Hey Avran, I have a question, I rode the Orca from a friend, and I felt really locked in whenever carving it, I have a Gold Member and I feel it more loose than the Orca, is it because of the sidecut radius or the construction of the board itself ? This board rips. Wish I could try the other models in chunder as this one wasn’t as easy to ride through it than I thought. Was getting bucked around.... but then again who straight lines that shit? My mushrooms hit me hard and forgot to turn a few times. Other wise, THIS BOARD RIPS. Probably not for beginners but can be the next board for a beginner that wants to upgrade. Floated amazing in powder, and was VERY stable on landings. Butters actually pretty well and not as stiff as people make it out to be. Carves nice tight turns, and digs trenches on groomers. Am I a fanboy? I dunno what the fuck that is, so who gives a shit. This thing shreds. I’m 5’6”, 170 lbs, sz 9 boot and 150 was perfect. Could see 153 in AK. Maybe 147 on more mushrooms. Definitely an all mountain board with small limitations in park capabilities. Well I don't think the Orca HP could be mounted to the binding slots of your Arbor Westmark Rocker. But hey with woodscrews, some glue, and persistence you can make anything happen.

It's marketed as more of a powder board. But it's actually a really versatile board for the Midwest. It floats well in powder when you get some. But it grips on ice better than most boards I've ridden. It's length also allows you to get more turns in on the small midwest hills. If you ride in the Midwest, especially at night, the 2020 orca is a great option.

I recently got last season’s model for a deep discount from a local shop. I rode it once so far, actually 6 days ago at Mt. High (Los Angeles) on a 15”-20” powder day, but being West Coast it was that wet and heavy powder. It floated well and can charge as hard as I’m comfortable with easily. Moderately fast tree runs was a blast. This board is making me want to upgrade bindings from Arbor Hemlock (which I bought from Kevin’s review couple years back) to Rome Black Labels and I also want stiffer boots to complete my setup. Too bad this La Niña winter is in full effect so far and limited travel options along with my paranoia of catching Covid is keeping me home a lot. God damn So Cal people not wanting to socially distance themselves or wear masks at the lift lines when I went to Mt. High....fuck those people

Sell your Orca and use the money to buy some good masks and play video games in your basement, safe from the dreaded little COVID virus. Sounds like safe fun. And more room for those of us out on the mountains. I never wear a mask and never plan on it.
