  • In Tibetan, Thrangu Rinpoche retraces the 16th Karmapa's escape route from Tibet by using a Tibetan-language map. At the end of the video, we provide an image stylizing the Karmapa's route out of Tibet into Bhutan then into India. Rinpoche's translator, David Karma Choepel, provides the commentary in English. Recorded at Vajra Vidya Institute in Sarnath, India. #buddhism #thrangu #karmapa

The 16th Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje (1924-1981), was the head of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He was born in Lhatse, Tibet, into a noble family. At the age of four, he was recognized as the reincarnation of the 15th Karmapa by the Sakya and Nyingma lineages. He received his monastic education at Tsurphu Monastery, the seat of the Karma Kagyu lineage.
In 1959, the Karmapa fled Tibet during the Chinese invasion and settled in Rumtek, Sikkim, India. He established Rumtek Monastery as his new residence and began to teach and write extensively. He also traveled widely to teach and spread the Dharma.
Thrangu Rinpoche (1933-2023) was a renowned master of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. Recognized as the ninth incarnation of the Thrangu Tulku lineage, he was a prolific scholar, author, and teacher. Rinpoche's vast knowledge and deep realization of the Dharma were complemented by his compassionate and engaging teaching style. He established numerous monasteries and Dharma centers around the world, tirelessly spreading the teachings of the Buddha to benefit all beings. His legacy is one of wisdom, kindness, and unwavering dedication to the spiritual path.
Thrangu Rinpoche's full name and title was the Very Venerable Ninth Khenchen Thrangu Tulku, Karma Lodrö Lungrik Maway Senge. The academic title Khenchen denotes great scholarly accomplishment (English-language analogues include the titles Distinguished Professor and Academic Fellow), and the term Rinpoche ("Precious" or "Precious One") is a Tibetan devotional title which may be accorded to respected teachers and exemplars.

You know, I’m not sure. A friend bought it in a Delhi bookstore in the early 2000s.

C'est si facile de donner des leçons de bonheur à des gens qui ne se cachent pas pour éviter la vraie vie.
