You can tell it’s 2011, the music, the style of clothing with the monster logo. The colour scheme of the bike and the good quality coming in. As well as the video editing style
3 ways you know he didn't flip his hub: 1. You can hear his cassette hub in the background. 2. At the beginning of the video he pedaled up to the quarter. 3. If he were to flip his hub and be pedaling that entire time, do you realize how much speed he would be gaining? The whole video is down hill. The reason he doesn't gain a lot speed is because of pedal pressure, which would only work to slow him down if his hub was on the correct way. If it were a freecoaster it wouldn't make a difference. Yes you can pedal backwards on it, but it is no easier to pedal backwards on a freecoaster than it is on a cassette. So even if it were a freecoaster it would be just as difficult to pedal backwards for that long. It's pretty obvious the video isn't backwards because you can hear them talking. I say this is 100% real. Props to this kid.
+Karlis Miezis Which is exactly why I don't ride freecoasters, and especially not do this because you can put any pressure to slow down. There's really no safe way to bail without hurting yourself. If you were to engage the freecoaster at that speed, you'd probably wear out the internals or break them.
+isnowyazn if you ride max slack which most free coaster riders do(including me), it'll never engage in a fakie even if you move your feet a little bit and if you start going to fast in a fakie you can just slide your tire sideways
All those idiots here yelling "FAKE!" need to fuckin pay attention to the video! 1. If the clip was played backwards then - the guy filming would've had to go backwards UPHILL all the time! - the old man walking past in the background at 2:08 would have walked backwards! - the rider wouldn't have had to lean and steer to the left and right all the time to avoid falling if he had gone forward! - even tho the music makes most of the talking hard to understand u can hear someone say "Oh my god" at 2:33, which would've been played backwards aswell! 2. If the right hand hub was swapped for a flipped left hand hub to be able to drive the wheel by pedaling backwards then he couldn't have stopped pedaling forward before he hit the ramp at 0:04, the left hand hub would've forced the pedals forward! 3. Same goes for a fixie hub! Just fuckin admit that this is real and quit coming up with ways to fake this that are clearly refuted by what u see in the video!
To everyone saying its fake because the cassette has no sound; Its real because for those who actually know how to fakie, they know that you go with the speed that the cranks are turning if your cranks are turning at 10 rpm by default but you turn them at 12 rpm then it will click because you're going faster than the hub itself is going. Plus there is music which would drown out some if any sound.
+Jacob Urbauer They also know if they ride a cassette hub that when you fakie the chain is engaged and the hub makes no sound at all *mindblown* Also he can control his speed because he is on a cassette hub, not a free coaster.
+Liam Fairbrother OK well tell you what, go find a hill, lean over your back tire with your arms extended and pedal up it with a steady pedal rate. tell me how that works for you cause the only way this could be faked is if the video was reversed.
So many misunderstood comments, hope this clarifies. This video is real. A cassette hub makes noise when you have forward momentum and you are not pedaling. Free coasters make no sound when you have forward momentum and you are not pedaling. Neither make noise when going backwards/ fakie. Why? Because a free coaster is 'coasting' and pedaling is not required, a Cassette hub forces the cranks to turn because the chain is engaged so the springs inside the cassette are not making the clicky sound. Note that he is riding brakeless. On a cassette hub you can add friction to the rotating cranks to slow down this is why there is no sound because the chain is engaged and forcing him to pedal backwards and more proof is his legs are so sore at the end he is applying constant pressure to the pedals so he doesn't go to fast. How else would he not be flying down this hill? The man on the sidewalk was walking normally at 2:09. The only way to create sound on a cassette hub while riding backwards/fakie is to pedal backwards faster than the wheel rotates so the chain will not be engaged this is completely useless and wastes energy, but this makes it almost impossible to balance and very very difficult to control the bike let alone ride it fakie for 2 minutes. Still not not enough evidence? his gastrocnemius (calf muscle) is not tense making it impossible for him to be "riding up the hill and playing the video in reverse" (i have been BMX riding on a cassette hub for years now, i will answer all questions)
It's good that people have doubts about whether the video is real or not; it shows that people are not just accepting things as true w/o thinking about it first, so kudos for that. My 2 cents - the 'fakie' in the vid is quite real. If you watch all the way thru, you'll see the other bike which is filming Chris; that bike is riding normally. For the 'fakie' to be fake - i.e., a video played backwards, that means that the 'filming' rider is actually riding backwards, WHILE filming. That would be even more unbelievable. Pay attention to the way Chris has to steer while riding; people who ride fakie know that a bike reacts differently to steering going backwards. Two clues that for me shows the vid is for real; just to add to the discussion.
BmxNitro I facepalmed to your comment right away. Explanation: First of all he reversed the hub by changing it's sides from left to right, basically he is pedaling and the hub engages as it would. Second of all there are hubs that you can change pawl sides and in that way you can change it to LHD or RHD anytime you want. But I guess he just changed the hub sides.
I dont believe thats the WORLD'S Longest but thats still farther than i can go. I would have gotten too tired and just quit. You got tired and kept going. Respect.
Yeah dude, that's called a HALF CAB. He has a cassete hub, he was pedaling backwards the whole time. So that means if the video is reversed, he would be forced to pedal while going up the ramp, which he didn't.
The first Bmx bike that caught my attention was this exact color way. Didn’t watch this video until about a year or 2 after seeing it. Watches this video before I could even 180
It's obviously not fake, the back hub and front sprocket are both on the right side of the bike which is normal for pedaling forward. One thing that is wrong is that it's not a fakie, it's a rollback. You could've gone longer if you had the seat up higher so you can sit down while pedaling backwards and had brakes. By using the front brake you'd be able to control your speed and balance a lot more effectively.
So dope! Why would anyone dislike this clip? Must be jealous BMXers with keyboard courage. Clearly not a fake, either; perhaps some viewers are just spelling 'fakie' wrong?
That my friend is not the worlds longest fakie . The record was made back in 1989 by a kid from Cincinnati Ohio almost 5 miles on a single ride & the record still stands today . Almost 30 years later .
+TheKillingMachine you do have to pedal backwards with a cassette because if you are going backwards the pedals move also but not while your going forward you are thinking of a free coaster hub. Free coasters don not make any noise and does not require you to pedal backwards. Look it up on google.

yeah i agree

With a free coaster you dont have to pedal. And doing a fakie is actually pretty easy.

I remember watching this when it first came out.
If you think its fake and reversed, then how the fuck would he not be pedaling while going up the ramp? His hub is cassette
didnt think of that good point
Come on dude, just believe it
if he was pedaling for that long he would be going pretty fast and then for the last like second he pedals backwards and bunny hops.
Yeah dude, that's called a HALF CAB. He has a cassete hub, he was pedaling backwards the whole time. So that means if the video is reversed, he would be forced to pedal while going up the ramp, which he didn't.

its a free coaster because if it was a cassette you have to peddal backwards faster than your hub

Clearly fake. it never really showed him pedaling forwards. they obviously switched the cassette so that it pedals backwards. lmao
