No es lo mismo que volverse loco. Eso es 'algo te vuelve loco', no es reflexivo.
Algo/Alguien me vuelve loco = It/Someone drives me crazy. Cx

become closer, a medida que pasan lo meses,nos vamos haceciendo mas cercanos (uno con el otro) ó vamos entrando mas en confiaza (uno con el otro, obviously),there some other ways but can remember now, even as i native spanish! saludos dede Buenos AIres

To add to that question at the end, I do sometimes see “convertirse en [religious adjective] used. Would you say to use “hacerse” instead and not “convertirse en” in that way?

Con una religión yo usaría 'convertirse al/a...'. También puedes usar 'hacerte + religión' . Cx

Volverse= To change/"to turn" a different way. Someone's changed. they're not like they were before. Usually (but not always) for the worse and usually after something has happened to them. Talks about personality.
Quedarse= To stay in a place/ To become/to be left + something physical or mental = He was left thinking, She was left speechless. Also: he's become deaf, bold, pregnant...
