    Very convincing thanks for breaking it down. I'm likely going microsquirt on my E34 535i. Want to stay N/A for a while and get more familiar with standalone before going turbo. I love the simplicity of the m30's distributor setup but I will not ignore that newer technology can be beneficial at times. Main reason for going standalone is so that I can rid of the AFM.

    One note to add is that a M50 coil won't work as they are passive coils requiring some other electronics in between the ecu and coil to make them work.

    Forum bros are claiming that the standard distributor in these cars does really well. You're saying that's not the case? Also, any chance you have datalogs or something you can post somewhere to show the difference in run quality?

      You can do a lot on a standard distributor. One of the biggest issues is that they are all old and worn out and replacing the distributor components can cost as much as doing coil on plug conversion. You also need an aftermarket ECU to do this conversion. When converting an m20 or m30 to coil on plug I can instantly audibly hear less misfires at idle and cruising. It's the way to go if you are going standalone ECU. All modern cars from the 90s to present use coil on plug or coil near plug. There is a reason individual coils are better otherwise OEMs would still use distributors.

      @@TurbineResearch Understood on all modern stuff. I'm actually reusing a uS from my other car on this, so I'd only have wasted spark at best. I haven't remotely looked them up to see yet, but people seemed to think that the factory system had acceptable spark energy for at least mild boost. Honestly, I like the idea of just keeping what's there and just adding in a cheap junkyard igniter and calling it a day. I'm surprised you are hearing that much of a difference though, if you are just going from a distributor to individual coils, unless you are stepping up to full sequential, which you can't do if you're still running your uS.

    Hey man working on the e28 for last couple months my 2 main concerns if you could point me in the right direction is my AIT sensor gets heat soaked at 130 F then throws off the entire fuel table I’ve adjusted mat correction still no help haha also my voltage gauge in tunerstudio is fluctuating by like .7 dips from 12.5 to 13.8 also voltage to ecu is steady and at battery steady 13.7

      Try replacing and cleaning the battery and alternator connections and cables. It helped a lot on our 528e megasquirt project. You can try shielding and or moving the iac location to see if that helps

    Do you know how much cutting and where your cousin did to fit his intercooler? Trying to mock up on my car now

      In my intercooler install video i think it shows where it had to be cut. The headlight mounts and center support had to be notched to fit the 2.5" intercooler piping

    Planning on running ls coils eventually
    On m30 with e28goodies ms2 PNP how would wiring go for this? Run all to existing coil wiring and go batch fire?

    • @TurbineResearch
      @TurbineResearch  Рік тому

      Megasquirt PNP have additional coil drivers that you just need to connect to the coils. For batch fire 1&6 ,2&5, 3&4

      Ahh I see Sounds good. So I will need to source a new harness to wire that up from the drivers to the coils. sounds good thanks@@TurbineResearch

    The Vag coils fits on the M20 spark plug?

    • @TurbineResearch
      @TurbineResearch  Рік тому +1

      Yes if you leave the threaded inserts on the sparkplug
