- A quick little video on a BMW E30 325i we had in for an ECU conversion a while ago, that I've just got around to editing the video.
I run through fitting various sensors, and ignition coils. I pop down to see a friend of mine, James at JEK Fabrications for him to weld on some studs for me to fit the coils.
I then run through getting it to fire, and then very briefly the tuning process.
I hope you enjoy, and that it helps in some way fitting your MaxxECU.
As always, with my videos, I have genuinely no idea about making videos, so the production is not great compared to many others, but hopefully you enjoy our amatuer content regardless. :-)

Intriguing to watch! It blows my mind.
this was great to watch
Great video to watch! Very informative. Even for thick people like me. 👍 😂
I'm surprised you got that much out of the stock injectors, most people bump up to more modern 550cc units when adding a cam, etc.
Wow, cool video and thanks for the info. I have always wonder how much better would be that engine with aftermarket ecu and now i can see it is way more better, also this would be epic investment for the future, if want more like turbo, stroker kit, head job with cams
Brilliant video!
Thankyou. :-)
Fantastic watching. I could watch loads more tuning. Not boring! I would love to hear the det cans audio if you are thinking of doing this.
How long did all this work take??
I think this one was about 4-Days being honest. Quite a bit of messing about with the coils etc etc.
It's not a bad idea to be honest with the knock sensor. I'll have to remember to have a mess about with it next time I've got one on the Dyno with a bit of spare time.
@@TuningShed that would be amazing!
Great video! I know its been a few months. Not sure if this was your build or a customers. I try to look for long term impressions on these conversions as im currently getting a maxxecu update to my 92 gmc typhoon turbo charged truck.
Hi, great vid as usual. What knock sensor and det cans do you use/recommend and how is it wired and positioned? Cheers.
I used my Phormula system on this car. Just bolted the knock sensor on the side of the block. I don't recall where honestly now. :-)
can you tell me how did you position the cam trigger mechanically correctly ? from MRT you have a lot of adjustment space for the trigger. How to position it correctly when the crank is at TDC?
The cam trigger is just being used as a 'Home' signal in this case, so it would be anywhere on the compression stroke cyl1. I'd have set that in the ECU settings.
Have they tried owning an AX?
Hola que tal un gusto, seria posible que compartas el diagrama electrico de la conversion. Para conocer como que Unidad de control de motor uso
Can’t decide between maxx and link. For a an m50b25tu. Then possibly turbo. Jz in the future
We deal with both. Both great ECU's. I really like the 'plugins' within the Link range, but usually end up with a MaxxECU on things like this. Id go with whatever your tuner feels comfortable with. :-)
The maxxecu sport line models and up have many more Street drivning features than any Link ECU such as check engine light and for many Other lights in the instrument cluster and of course oem digital speedo and tachometer outputs. And beacuse you have so much settings while setting up sensors you can use any type of sensor thats fits the best and is the cheapest so the maxxecu is a more of a diy style setting up but is cheaper. Link ECU have many sensors of their own that is plug and play however more pricer. And with maxxecu you dont need any gauges you can use the mdash app/program on any smart tablet i dont remember latency but it was low. LinkEcu Might be better for competition for most people
My e30 is a 320i from 1989 with a m20b20 engine swapped from an e34, my old motor had the distribuitor in the left side of the block, not in the front of the camshaft, so at the moment im running with my old dizzy on left side, is there a problem or will i have problems in the future?
How much would this cost fitting etc
I believe this was about 4-days labour plus the parts.
@@TuningShed yh there's no cost?
@@andreawilliams3092 I'm always reluctant to give prices on anything in the public forum, the price remains the same on here forever. People phone in 9-years, and start the conversation with, "I've read online it's £x" or similar! Lol As a rough guide though, this was approx four days labour plus parts. We charge £65p/h right at this moment. We can always quote a job for you of course if required.
@Tuning Shed fair enough do u have a way I can contact you
I'm getting this done to my 92 gmc typhoon. For those unfamiliar it is a small suv from Gmc that has a 4.3 6 cylinder turbo charged engine. It is batch fire fuel injection system from the factory and a horrible factory ignition system. We are doing a a complete rewire of the of the truck with maxxecu controlling everything. We are ditching the factory distributor and using the dual sync holley distributor that using a cam crank sensor. We are upgrading pretty much everything and they are also doing a tune which is costing around 15k. Could be more or less depending on how neat and what material is used to insulate the wiring harness Also included a tablet to display my engine parameters and a block out plate to cover the old analog speedo.
Why do you use flywheel hp numbers vs whp?
Because it's common in my country.
