One thing has changed since I did this - I played a Mark IV. Better re-do this soon.
And a redo we look forward to!!! 😁💙
What about the Molecular??
I second the molecular comment! Would love to see you demo more Ceriatone amps 😃
I agree
@leon... I see eight months ago You played a Mark Iv, and You need to update lol, I also have both the mark iv and a hot rod 100 plus....Soldano is pretty awsome...but the Mark Iv is just on a different level, have you had a chance to check out a JP2C+ yet?
Goddamn I love me some Marshall and Mesa, but that Soldano boosted with a TS is just the stuff of dreams. I would riff and shred on that all day long until I collapse.
That's pretty much my life since buying that amp
They all sounded great! Above that, your playing style is outstanding! Heavy and fast but very tasteful with a southern blues mix. Very unique in this era. It was refreshing to listen your playing.
Great demo-I love your playing in it!
Great playing. Great stuff. And you can tell from his face that he enjoys playing through those machines.
I have a Hotrod 50 and I'm in love with it! Your DSL 50 sounds very nice as well! Nice playing too
Man, this was just pure high gain tone heaven. Fat, rich but absolutely clear. I really enjoyed how you played it and how it sounds. Well done. Bravo!
F'n great chops bro! 2 of my fav guitar player's as well, thanks !!
I love this vid so much, whether its the sound of the unobtanium of that Soldano, or the glorious state of mind it clearly puts Leon in...
Great video! I love your channel, you could show us your 3 favourite mini amps. They have to be giggable. That’s more what most people would get. Cheers
Another great video. All the amps sounded great, but the soldano was my favorite, for whatever that’s worth (which is nothing)
I must say everything Leon plays through always sounds pretty damn good, and that's a testimony to his playing. Good stuff Leon.
Thanks so much Mike :D
That Soldano sounded incredible boosted and I could tell by your face it was great in person. I liked the Marshall as well. The Mesa double sounded great as well. I have an JCA Amelia that I'm pretty happy with as well as a Traynor Custom Special 50 H.
So glad I found your channel!! I can watch gear videos allllllll day long, good stuff bro
Thanks so much mate!
I re -watch this video just to hear the Soldano.
@1socalshocker me too hahaha just to hear that crunch man, it never gets old
Same here, that string separation makes it sound BRUTAL!
I had the same head & regret letting her go! Sounds so awesome man!
A Soldano with the gain at about 3-4 on the OD channel, boosted with a TS-9 is just about tone heaven. I couldn't agree more with you!
Sick playing brother. Just found your channel. Loving it.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing. Love the Soldano!! I’m saving up for a SLO 100
An SLO would be so cool!
Awesome Soldano tone!!
Great advice...I had one of the 1st Dual Rec's made...but soon moved on...I also kept a DSL in my stable..but when I got the Bogner Ecstacy and then the Uberschall...I really don't need anything else...Maybe a Diezel VH4 if I want to start a Djent band but the uber really covers that well.
That soldano sounds rowdy, i loved it!
Nice one. I have a Soldano Hot Rod Avenger myself, it's the duck's nuts. Though recently I've come to enjoy a Marshall Plexi, the Soldano has more of a refined hi-fi sound, I enjoy the rawness of the Plexi with a pedal slamming the front end. But damn, you certainly make it sound great! I also have the same Marshall JCM2000 50w, really love that amp too. Surprisingly good and very versatile.
Always appreciate players that have the control to handle gain well, it's not lost on me that it's a lot of work to control it. Well done!
It's always fun handing someone a guitar plugged into a raging 100w head and seeing if they can tame the beast!
I want to say that this is such a cool video because it shows the distinct difference between all these amps. I’m not knocking this other persons channel but I noticed on their channel the amps can really sound a like but on here the sounds are so clear.
it's good to hear them side by side.
Dude, that look of ecstasy when you started playing lay it down….Priceless. I knew exactly how you felt when you an amp speaks to your soul!! LOL any thoughts on the MB Mark V?
I love the sound of that Soldano!! Never can go wrong with the Marshall!!! Just really LOVING my PRS MT 15 more than anything right now personally.
The MT15 is SICK. Super impressive amps.
That Mesa sounds bad ass!! Nice man
great tone love that head soldano
That HR50+ still haunts my dreams. Dream rig = that plus a cornford MK50 in stereo
Know anyone with a Cornford? That would be a fun video to do.
i got to play a mk50h last time, when mike foo (Tritone amps) had one in for repair, i've told him to just call me whenever they arrive so i can drive over and have a fang.
Ooh, I love cornfords. I got to try one in the platinum room at Guitar Center and I couldn’t for the life of me dial in a shite sound.
The MK50 is a very stiff and dry amp. I've had it for almost a year and could not get a musical sound out of it. It's very sterile, even sounding and there is no real wildness or emotion like you feel on Marshalls or Soldanos...
There's a unique quality and clarity to Soldano. One day, I'll get one ! Keep up the vids dude :)
You're a Lynch and DeMartini fan... a man after my own heart! Great videos.... love your channel!
Thanks so much. Both of those guys are the complete package in my eyes
Damnit, what a sound you have on the Soldano !!!!!!! Completely crazy....
Cool video, and i subscribed!Warren and George r some of my top favorite guitar players, actually they were some of my teachers, never get enough credit! I love Soldano, been wanting one of his amps for a long time, and the way Mike said they r built, amazing, and he seems like such a nice guy!!
Best built amp I own by a long way!
FREAKIN BEEEEEFFFFF. Amazing amp and some stellar playing!
nice playing man
7:07, you just got the perfect st anger sound😂🤘👌
I love that Soldano has it's own boutique unmistakable tone. Signature overdrive with a ton of clarity. Mic drop.
One of a kind.
Man that Soldano sounds SICK!
They do what they do oh so very well
Leon Todd of course I love the rev G too, since I have one lol
Everyone should own one ;)
Absolutely! Was a game changer for me! Hey, fantastic playing by the way Leon.
Thanks so much dude :)
Had to watch this this again. Just too cool sounding Soldano. The sound of the 80s, just like the ada. I watched a vid of stypers singer playing a 100 watt soldano head and it sounded killer as well. Just too cool and amp. The other amps rock too, but that Soldano just hits me with those mids, those schenker times or something I just love in playing.
Man, your rhythm playing is just too cool. Love your use of chord voicings and the bass strings, etc. Just cool brother.
Out of hospital on a good note and doing better. Was really sick and having heart problems with pneumonia. A little touch and go for awhile, but they ironed me out, and I lost 14 lbs in the process. No eating like a pig and cat is helping me recover laying in me constantly. Cat love rocks!!!
hey Bro, my favorite Amp of All time is the Exact same one. Yet, back in 92' I went with my 2nd Favorite being the JCM900 100 Watt Hi-Gain Dual REVERB 4100 model FUL STACK with A-Slant JCM900 Lead1960 & B-Straight JCM900 Lead 1960. I have been playing through a Digitech RP1000 for the past 8 years and Love it, But I have slowly been falling back to my good Ole' Analog Pedals. I'm a Huge LYNCH Man he inspired me through my 35 years of Playing as well as Warren Di Martini 2 of my Inspirations for sure.
go back to amp distortion and you will thank your ears for the glorious sounds they now hear,i had a jcm800 for 20 years, heaven.
god ,i hated the 900 and the reverb version seemed to be the worst.surprisingly there might be 1-2 videos on all of youtube getting
a decent tone out of them.
2 of my favorites too... Mesa and Soldano!
Dsl's new an old are amazingly versatile amps. With a set of electro harmonix el34's they are so quiet, those tubes take away all the fizz and make the amp sound so damned good. My favorite amp ever is my DSL100HR with the EHX El34's and a low noise jjecc83 in v1 and a mullard cv4004 in v2 and 12ax7b's for v3 an v4. It can do plexi and jcm800 on the classic channel and then you have the ultra channel for 2 different hot rodded jcm800 sounds. I use high gain pups like jb/59 sets and fishman fluence moderns and I'm able to get pristine cleans classic rock crunch and high gain all day. It's just a great amp if you need 1 amp that can do it ALL.
Even if I love mesa boogie amps, that soldano is unbeatable. That tone is so fat and clear, love it
Love George and Warren. Love 80s rock!
Two of my all time faves
"Because I am not a savage and live in the modern era I'll boost it with a tubescreamer" LOL awesome...haha. Great vid and amps!
hi Leon what is the reference for your pickup on your sc245 prs? thank you
What an eargasm!!
The Mesa Boogie for sure! Please compare the Rivera knucklehead Tre next time please?
My favorite amp is the one I have. It's a Crate Power Block CPB150 stereo amp with 150 watts. I've got it hooked to my stereo Akai SW-155 speakers and a 250 watt car woofer. Sounds great. I've got a Great Crate.
I'm a mesa tone like you but I was lent a Two Rock Studio Pro 50 recently and I cant stop screwing with it! Its a different tone but I really dig it!
Dude, your face when you're digging into that Rectifier. That's why I love them so much. I also got into them due to Ty fanboyism, and never looked back. I got into the 2010-onwards MultiWatt Dual Recs though, you played one? Check out some of the demos on my channel to hear what it can do. I love all kinds of amps but that's THE one for me.
It's a feeling that's hard to explain really, isn't it?
That tone is insane!!
Thanks so much!
They all do what they do, very well. In my opinion, you have the order just right. That Soldano though... Damn!
I was playing through a 6505+ for about 5 years. Then I saw your DSL video about a week ago. I had to have a Marshall. Ended up getting a super deal on a TSL100 and love it.
Your videos are awesome and very informative. Keep up the great work!
That makes me so happy to hear!
i have 3 soldano tube amps ( one is the HR+) in my humble collection and the HR is just the fun go to amp as it works so well in the house
Oh yeah at that time I had an American made BC rich red mockingbird that I was really into along with my Kramer focus three hum Floyd x style large metallic red star body.. that one was so cool.. had two of them..
Great amp!! I've been wanting to plug into this or the slo100. Awesome!!!!
They do what they do so very well.
Hi Leon, Brilliant Video, honestly all three Amps sound amazing I love the Beefy tone of the DSL, I heard an Iron Maiden 2 min to midnight tone,
The Soldano has a killer Distortion Channel, I am a fan of George Lynch/Lynch Mob, he really is a tone chaser,
I have the Baby brother version of your Mesa, the Mini Rec 25 which has the sweetest Clean Channel and like your Beast can get a little flubby on the Lead Channel, I ended up getting a Keeley Germanium Ecstasy Treble booster, sounds awesome.
If I could only have one it would be the Mesa, killer riffing by the way.
The Explorer behind you looks so nice.
YEah the DSL is 70's/80's, the Soldano is late 80's/early 90's and the Recto is mid 90's - modern tonally. All three tracked together sounds crazy!
another Leon, awesome, Love the video, keep rocking
Ty Tabor is soooo underrated. Great video LT :)
Judd Tabor is one of the greats!
As Todd states: King's X Dogman album has incredible (drop D) Mesa tone!! I still remember seeing King's X a few times back then and letting Ty's live rig just do it to me right in my earholes. Hurts so good.
Hi again Leon I've got a DSL50 myself which I love what settings are you using on this demo Specifically on the Ultra Gain channel Cheers
I have an old purple HR100+ and in my opinion once he boosted it you never got to hear how intricate and alive the beast really is with the gain around 8 ( please do another no boosting or effects in the front for the folks!)
The Marshall says JCM 2000 not dal 50? Is there a difference?
They all sound great to me, what kind of cab are you using?
Love Soldano amps.... Warren Haynes uses them and Mikey Houser RIP used to use them... I once met Soldano backstage at a Gov't Mule show in Memphis... super nice guy... he reminded me of Jeff G. "Jurassic Park"
I fell in love with Mesa Boogie because they are extremely reliable. I personally own 3 of them. I called after hours on December12, 2019 at 6:43 pm and Mesa Boogie called me back at 7:42 and helped me out.
Mesa Boogie actually listens to musicians and designs amps around that. Unlike other manufacturers that make stupid decisions and expect us to buy their product.
Mesa Boogie amps rarely see an amp tech because they have a fixed bias. If a tube goes bad, all you do is replace it with a Mesa Boogie tube and the problem is fixed.
They even have a transferable manufacturer’s warranty. Although I have 3 Mesa Boogie amps, I’m planning on getting a 4 th . I’m getting a Mesa Boogie “ lonestar “ . Voted one of the best clean sounding amps ever.
Which Mesa would you say has the most mid-heavy snarl reminiscent of and perfect for 80’s hair/glam/sleaze tones? Warren/Robbin, Jake E Lee, Lynch
What if boosting an SLO with a Tube Screamer is actually the thing that _does_ make you a savage? What then?! :)
I've got the soldano astroverb effects loop prototype. The astro is based on the SLO's Clean channel with the Crunch Button on.
You can turn the gain all the way up to 9 or 10 without it being too much!
What kind of speakers are you playing through?
I had a Hot Rod 50 and it was nice, but by no way an SLO100. Not even close. But it looked amazing with the Red Alligator Tolex.
That soldano nails Ratt tones. Wow. Gonna try my JCA50H with a TS808 tomorrow.
They're all great but, that Marshall is THE rock tone.
DUDE - Great vid! I'm so psyched that you are influenced by Lynch, DiMartini and Ty Tabor!! The tone on Dogman is incredible. I assumed you'd be too young to really appreciate those players.... but nope! They are some of my favorites too! I have found your amp reviews very helpful and informative. Thanks to you, I'm now on a quest to find a low hours, mint condition, unmodified JCM2000 DSL50. Wish me luck! Also FYI for the viewers of this vid: Soldano HR50 (awesome), is not in the same price range as the other two. Also, he's playing drop-D which gives a much meaner sounding low end (especially those open D chords) than standard E tuning. How about Mesa Single Rectifier? Let me go look to see if you reviewed that one somewhere in here.....
Thanks man, 3 of my all time favourite players. never demo'd a single Rec but i'd love to. If you like the tones here you'd dig the latest Ragdoll album "Back to Zero".
LEON ...WHAT SPECIFIC TUBESCREAMER R U USING HERE?...THANKS
how do you record the sound? what box, what mic, or what other ??? thanks !
What's cabinet used each head?
I love that Soldano. It's funny that your amp matches my cab with the same color snakeskin. Did you ever try a variac with it? In the Fractal, if it's accurate, that amp is a fire breathing dragon at 85% of normal voltage.
I must get one do you think you could get a good soundgarden tone from it
Hi Leon...i am contemplating on investing in an AXE Fx vs Soldano. Any ideas or advise? How close do the simulations compare to the real deal? Is the digital world close enough yet? These are your favorite amps, and these are no doubt the top 3 for any metal fans. Do you use any of these Live? What is you live setup? Thank you so much for posting such helpful videos. Cheers.
When did Ratt start recording with Soldanos?
We’re they running through Greenbacks like with the JMPs?
Hey Leon, great video!! What cab+speakers are you using?
Hey Leon, being a Sykes fan, do you think the Soldano can get near those '1987' tones?
I dont see a whole lot of em, but i have the Mesa Single Rectifier. Sounds real close to the dual rec but not quite. Still my favorite amp I’ve ever owned, has EL34 tubes and played through a marshal 4x12 cab.
New sub here dude... Love the channel bro....holy crap that soldano!!!
Thanks so much! Yeah it's a monster of an amp, unbeatable at what it does.
Soldano sounds much better with the tube screamer, amazing sounding amp. Also probably the only amps that stays crunchy on the neck pick up without totally flubbing out. Goddamn does that Marshall sound amazing!
Yeah it's awesome being able to play rhythm guitar on the neck pickup and have it sound defined.
Hot rod plus smokes the regular 2 input one, had both, only complaint was the bleed between gains on channel one and two of the hotrod plus.
Are you running the tube screamer through the FX loop?
I haven’t played a lot of expensive amps. But you should try the Diezel VH4. Best amp I’ve tried together with a Boogie Mark 2C+. TriAxis & Boogie power amp also sounds amazing.
The tube Screamer makes the magic front of almost all tubes amps. However, I haven't never liked the JCM 2000. The Soldano sounds great for sure but for my use and my taste a Plexi is the rule.
@Deconstruction 33 I am the tech. I made a low power plexi clone that sounds amazing to my ears if I need. Unfortunately Plexis has always been unasable for musicians that plays on little local stages. However, if you want the real Plexi big and sweet tone, you have to move enough air. That's why I don't like attenuator and load box.
I have the mesa dual rec with el34 tubes in it . The el34 tubes seem to round out the low end better , especially for down tuned and 7 string guitars . It has a better punch and clarity that the 6l6 just seemed to be lacking . I boost it with the vht v drive and it's a beast .
It takes the pedal sooo well!
After decades of intrigue I finally got a chance to play an SLO with the matching cab and was speechless how incredible it was. And good move by soldano ditching the ice pick vintage 30s for eminence legends. Mind blowing combination of raw and refined tight gain. And versatile! Does it all.
Might have to try some of those...
bad move, just break in v30's and they kill everything especially eminance anything.
How is that much gain on the soldano legal?
How is the mid range on the soldano
Your videos that I see are pretty cool. We have roughly the (although I hesitate) same taste in amps. That Soldano is great. I have the jcm dsl 2000 100 watt version. Yes great cleans.... Also the dual rectifier.... Maybe one day, the Soldano ... The rectifier and the Soldano in a stereo configuration could turn out to be just insane.... IMO.
I've recorded a few songs with the Recto and Soldano quad tracked and it's just huge. Listen hear for reference - ua-cam.com/video/dgn9Y6dPOgc/v-deo.html
Just bought AX8. Soldano maybe in future. Sounds great
Just curious what guage strings you use?
Very similar tastes in amps. My favorite is my Soldano Hot Rod 50 single channel. Push it with a BOSS EQ set to a little mid range boost with a little volume gain. I have a JCM2000 100W and a 4x12 w/ Greenbacks but I never use the red channel. The green crunch channel dimed with a Marshall Guv'nor (with all knobs on pedal at 12 o'clock) is deadly. I have a JCM800 50W and a Boogie JP-2C but the HR50 and the 2000 are my favorites.
That's uncanny, if I ever buy another amp it will be a JP2C or a MKV
Great video and comparison! ....have you ever tried a Bogner XTC?
Never a real deal XTC unfortunately. Dream amps
@@LeonTodd , The first time I saw one in a store, I plugged in to try it out....20 minutes later I bought it, and it's been my main gigging amp ever since. Similar to the Soldano, but a bit warmer (at least to my ears).
haha so awesome! thanks dude, this made my day!
Thanks for the suggestion dude!
Do you play Lay It Down that way because you find it difficult to play it cleanly with those big chord stretches as WDemartini does it? I have large hands, but apparently very little flexibility. Hard to do it consistently....
I have no idea how he plays it, this is my hobbled together learned by ear version. I bet he has mutant hands ;)
What cab for marshall?
