I'll just say, ditto on the helmet mic/cam footage. And - you've sold me on buying a CRF300 to do my exploring out west. 330 lbs. sounds a lot better than 600 lbs. to pick up the 5th or 6th time. Tho due respect to you getting your big bike through that challenge. I don't know how big you are, but the 1200 GS is a lot of bike for anyone on that terrain. I also want to say that you are a very good extemporaneous speaker. Nor many are. Kudos! And, you 'keep it real'. No posing, jumping, vamping for the camera. You are who you are and that's plenty. Keep em coming.
We hired a guide for a north of Lake Superior ride this summer. It was an amazing area to ride and I highly recommend it. Having been told of a new 50km section of ‘easy’ hydro cut he led us on a new route that he didn’t preride. For us intermediate to advanced riders it was a very challenging section. A lot of the rock gardens, then deep sand, then rocky or muddy water crossings and it began to rain about 3kms into the trail. About half was the same as your steep tough rock garden descent, both up and down. Those baby head or bigger stones provide little purchase and roll around under the bike. It was the toughest riding most of us have done. Up there is without cell signal so your relying on GPSs for rough wayfinding and InReach or Spot devices if help is needed. It took nearly six hours to traverse 50kms. Now that it’s been a couple months in the rear view mirror it’s become the highlight ride of the 2021 season, at the time it was hell. We named the route Purgatory, a name that’s stuck and is now the ‘official’ trail name within our riding community. We were riding gear laden 1200GS, 800GSA, F650GS and a couple KLR 650s. As far as we know only one other experienced big bike group has attempted it but the group turned around after a few kilometres. This was a great video, the in helmet live VO is great! Happy New Year!
Man, that was a butt -puckering rocky track returning to civilization! Great job keeping your cool and focus on the task. Appreciate your sharing and perspective of solo riding.
Hey mate. This video is great, helmet comms show the really time challenge of a big bike riding on the trail. I ride a 1200 explorer and was recovered from a black diamond trail 2 days ago. I been watching you for a long time now. Keep making this great stuff mate.
Man, I so feel your internal dialogue in those tense moments. I often go mountain camping on a 1200GSA, almost always riding solo, and have been over many a Colorado/Arizona mountain pass that gets seriously gnarly like yours just did. You were on your game, and were remarkably thinking the exact same things that go through my head, but that I'm not filming to document! Really enjoyable to watch. Two wheels up, brother.
Thanks again Sterling! Having the commentary in the helmet is great! Listening to you while in these tough situations does make a difference to the viewer. I was getting a little excited/stressed in those rocky areas, been there done that. Good advice about not getting yourself into a place you can't get out of. Thanks again for taking the time to produce these videos so we may ride along and see wonderful country back in the summer sitting here in the snow. The Rocky Mountains, wonder where it gets it name, ha.
Beautiful backwoods scenery, an organized kitchen bag, skillful riding through rocky paths and providing us a narrative from your audio in your helmet. I felt like I was experiencing the adventure alongside, Sterling. Loved this, thank you.
I added a Nanuk camera case to my 790 Adventure this fall after seeing it in one of your earlier videos. I have it on a quick release plate. It is a nice step up for carrying several camera bodies and a drone on the motophoto trips. Thanks for showing people both sides of the mountain. We often see the romantic ride portion but often miss the “geez, this is hard, what was I thinking” moments that often make up the rides on a medium or large adventure bike. It sure feels rewarding when the ride ends and you can reflect on the trip.
FANTASTIC! The helmet audio just put this on a whole other level! Thank you so much for sharing not only the beautiful content and the nice camping scenes but also the REALITY of what goes on for 90% of these trips. Stay safe ouf there!
Really like the cook bag / setup you have. Any chance you have a list of everything in it? I’m sure others would be interested, and if so, may be a good future video for the channel since we all have to eat! Thanks for the great content Sterling!
@@johncollinsworth6754 thanks John! I went though his channel and found one with even more info. Link is below in case you were interested as well, I appreciate your help! ua-cam.com/video/8yHsMeOmXkM/v-deo.html
Great effort Sterling! Man those layers of rocks, as you slowly went down we all said shit at the same time lol. Glad you popped out the other side! Viel Spaß noch / Have fun!
I've seen you cook a hundred times and I always like, so please don't ever stop!! Completely agree with your choice of rides! Much better when riding solo to pick roads that lower the risk but still bring the enjoyment you're looking for in a ride!!
Your comments about road condition’s for motorcycles vs. 4 wheelers are absolutely correct. Things that a truck wouldn’t even slow down for are virtual road blocks for me. Yet I can blow through sections, honking and waving to Jeeper’s who are out of their rigs scratching their heads. Congratulations on another fantastic video story. Your channel is the best.
Sterling! Amazing helmet cam riding and commentary. Thanks for keeping it real and showing the drop and challenges in real time. So helpful for us newbies.
Omar, thank you so much. I’ve watched so many of your videos since getting into the Fuji camera system about three years ago! I didn’t know that you like to ride also!
Sterling, what a great video! I love the way you talked about the feeling of having to ride through all the "normal" stuff. The riding footage with narration was equally super. It makes us realize we all go through the same things. I do tend to be more conservative when solo, but there are times where you just don't know what your going to get. Thanks again.
Great video! Loved the helmet camera and audio! Your sentiments and observations are bang on! That would have been better on your 701. One of these days I have to make it to Bisby when you are there.
Sterling, this is an excellent video (as always)! This is a great contrast and teaching session when you compare it to your video in AZ where it became a survival struggle. Love your work and please keep these videos coming! Cheers!
Hello Sterling, Your video productions are always excellent and the helmet commentary was a great addition on this rough trail. Thank-you for taking me along.
As soon as I saw the title I thought "fully loaded GS on Georgia Pass, that's bold!" I live right down the road from there and have done that route a lot. Its a rocky beast! Nice job cleaning it. We have the exact same bike and I can say i never thought about taking the GS there! My Jeep or my KTM 500XCW not a prob. But my Rallye? Not likely! Haha! Always enjoy the content Sterling!
Much respect, Stirling. Doing those rocks on my loaded GS would take my skills to the limit. The helmet mic lets us share the adventure with you in a much more personal way. Oh, and the intro drone shots are epic as always. Well done.
Thanks for the excellent video. The helmet audio really helps the viewer get an understanding of exactly what you are going through when facing challenging terrain - great stuff. It's also nice to know that even a very experienced, capable rider such as yourself doesn't just glide down trails like that!
Nice one as Always, When I’m at altitude riding, after dropping my bike, I will take a chill mini brake to stabilize my breathing, It’s better that lifting the bike and riding away in a short breath panicking feeling….. Have fun👍
Sterling, you’re such an inspiration. Love watching your videos; gives me new ideas which are much more efficient and effective. Thank you so much, and Happy New Year!
We did Georgia Pass a few years ago on our big bikes, same direction (up the south, down the north) and your commentary is spot on. I would add that if we had the same helmet mike, ours commentary would have been a whole lot more NSFW than yours. That is one stout downhill for sure. Well done!!!!
great vid. welcome to baby heads on that north side, the less fun part of CO riding good pace and and quick line decision helps make it through. done it on my big super tenere both ways
Well done getting down , I would struggle on my XT250 on some of that rocky stuff , love the idea of mounting the drone control and also doubles for maps .
I enjoyed the helmet cam. But your usual video work is always enjoyable to watch, you are really talented. I ride a Super Tenere, so I totally understand what you’re saying about the big bikes on rough terrain. Be safe.
Great video! For some moto camping is very social and for others its serenity of Solitude. Im the latter and I understand your words. Sometimes you just have to go 1/2 further along logging road etc for what seems like complete solitude (ain’t for everyone)
Liked the mic in the helmet narrative! Hell of a rock garden there that you traversed going down into Breckenridge! May it be a while before you have another one like that!
