- WHITEHALL, PA. -
Tuesday afternoon Whitehall Engines 2, 3, 13, 12, 4, Truck 6, Greenawalds Rescue 11 (F.A.S.T.) were dispatched to 2695 MacArthur Road at the Burger King for a reported structural fire.
Deputy Chief Bilder arrived and reported a fire in the exterior wall of the 1-story restaurant.
Engine 2 arrived and stretched a hand line to the front door. Engine 3 (Squrt) positioned in front of the building on the highway side and sent three firefighters to the roof.
Fifth due Engine 4 established a water supply on Macarthur Road at the entrance to the shopping center. The water supply wasn't needed and immediately removed from the highway.
The fire was held to the wall and caused minor damage.

Thank You for posting these clips . Your hard work is appreciated .
I see a hose line, not charged, going down and across the highway. U think some one would have common sense and stop the damn traffic so they wouldn't drive over the hose!??
Nice response. Plenty of resources.
"Hey, Eustace!"
"Yeah, boss?"
"I told you to flame-broil them Whoppers, not the whole damn building!!!"
The whole fire department of Whitehall PA must have been called for this. That's where the whole department gets their lunches. Maybe it was a training exercise as I saw no smoke or fire in between the 10 minutes of fire engine shots. Was this a promotional video for the Whitehall PA fire department?
No there was a small fire in the wall I believe
probably a box call for commercial structure fire
That poor supply line.
someone smelled smoke better call in several fire companies
I wonder how often they go through 5”
This gives new meaning to hot off the grill
Pre-arrival?
So they got there before they got there?
Pre - Arrival means I see video of the fire burning
B E F O R E the trucks arrive .
Am I missing something here ? ?
A lot of equipment for a little fire. Hey guys, while you're in there, grab me an order of those Cheetos coated mac-n-cheese things.
Gregg Goss typical structure fire response.
+Josh Tavenner, I guess maybe for that particular local.
If Fire Department gets a report of fire in a commercial premises, then you should expect a large response to begin with.
Who knows if this will turn out a small thing over in 5 minutes, or into something huge, that needs all those units, and more.
There are quite a few fires in places like this that do in fact turn out hours long events..
However, there are other similar situations where potentially large fires are contained within a short time, because a large number of units responded.
Always better to have additioanal units there, ready if needed, than not enough.
Better they are there and not needed than be still sitting at the station and be needed.
What is the law on a vehicle running over a line? Here in Tennessee it is illegal to run over a line charged or not.
Its their own fault for laying it out in the first place. Sit at the hydrant and if needed run it. Typical Pa response, kill them with numbers.
dug2fire they have fire police too right?
Joey Canter Possibly yes but you have to rely on them getting there and that's not always certain. The vast majority of jurisdictions do not have fire police, it's a regional thing. I'll stick to my first observation that they never should have run the line . The had a nurse pumper and plenty of time to lay out from the hydrant if needed.
I know I'm Ohio it's illegal to run them over but in Whitehall Ohio when are engine goes to lay in the cops immediately block the road
People like to throw "illegal " around a lot but before you tell or express to any person they are doing something illegal you should know that it is in fact an actual law in your state. Here in NJ it is a monetary fine and a point violation for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle with visual and audible warning devices activated, however the only mention of crossing hose lines states you should not drive over a fire hose unless directed to by a fire, emergency rescue personnel or a police officer. Nothing about a fine, points, or even charges such as a misdemeanor. So......if everyone is operating at the same incident, at the same time, and all are on the same page then you technically are not allowed to drive over a fire hose. But since that rarely happens, and since the police officers at least in my area of the state consider firefighting operations such as stretching supply lines a nuisance and dislike any interruption to the flow of traffic, be prepared for your line to be run over.
I don't quite understand those of you that have to comment negatively on the number of fire apparatus arriving. In the volunteer fire service unfortunately you don't have everything necessary all in one station. There more than likely aren't members sitting around waiting for a call, particularly during the day. There isn't every piece of apparatus needed for a structure fire and even if there is, there probably aren't enough available members to respond all of it. So that is the reason for so many companies and apparatus assigned to one incident. I will disagree with the supply line being stretched across the road. I know this area fairly well and that is a very busy road. People are not going to stop for an uncharged hose. Between three pieces of apparatus with pumps and water tanks and considering about 80% of a fast food restaurant is open floor space, there was more than enough water sitting in the lot to make a solid attack on a fire in a small building such as that. Have an engine standing by ready to reverse lay out to the hydrant. I was happy to actually see a company stretching an attack line with more than one person. All too often one firefighter attempts to shoulder an entire preconnect only to get 10 feet away from the rig and dump it on the ground. That is not stretching, that is creating a big pile of kinks. One person per 50' works well.
In answer to your obvious dismay at the negative comments, Then why have a VFD in the first place if it is incapable of responding to an emergency call fully ready to perform the task at hand ??? If you do not want to be confronted with negative comments, then act professionally, perform the fire attack responsibly and know your job [or] don't allow your on-scene unprofessional clusterf**ks by your's and mutual aid departments to be filmed for all to see !!!
Any injuries ? I was there across the street looked like nothing tho no smoke lol
2:41 Spartan and kme Mix up that fire truck is rare
Definitely not enough units dispatched for this grill fire.
Is Whitehall Fire Dept
paid or volunteer? My hubby has been a volunteer for over 20 yrs. He & I r looking for a new state to live in, cause New Jersey sux!
Come to missouri they get paid 85 thousand a year here
They are Volly's.
Don't live in this town. They aren't very good at what they do putting it mildly.
Isn't Burger King known for their flame broiling? Home of the Whopper!
It was a sunny day before.
Nowadays we see only cyclones
You think they would shut down that road with hose on it, at least re-rout the traffic around it.
How does the apparatus numbering system work out there?
The first number is the County station number, the last digits are -11 engines -21 tankers -31 Ladders -41 Rescue -51 squad -71 attack . However Whitehall had their own numbering system such as Engines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 14 Truck 6, Rescue 8 but are identified on the county radio system using the above numbering system for radio identification.
is there criteria for each designation? Reason I ask is that quint is numbered as a truck but appears to only be an engine with a small squirt device. Does it have a full compliment of ladders etc..?
a working fire with no signs of smoke? i didn't even see any smoke from any ventilating even... Looks like over kill to me
What state was this in ? I'd say this is over kill for sure !!
