Has anyone ever noticed how Tyson always rushed to aid an opponent he just knocked out. This fearsome brute was filled with compassion and sympathy.I like to believe that the "real" Mike Tyson was the guy who cared .
"That is the mark of a shot fighter when you can't get off punches..." *2 seconds later* - "THUD" "Yeah that's what happens when you have a great puncher" LOL
This was a great KO by Tyson when everyone, including the announcers, were pronouncing him finished. He showed he still had it. Gracious of him to check Botha out after the KO too.
I do man! I totally agree. It's a true shame that Tyson isn't remembered for that sportsmanship. Unfortunately, it was more prominent during his early years. But all those fights around the time he had defeated Berbick, he was so humble and at the same time, a devastating hurricane of perfectly timed blows. If only his career hadn't gone astray. He'd be remembered for what he always was.
One minute the commentators are saying Tyson is slow and looks like he's fighting in slow motion and the next minute is, "Mike Tyson has returned", Just beautiful.
The enigma that is Mike Tyson: He is commonly known for his unwarranted violence in and out of the ring. But, so many times, after having finished off his opponents (albeit in brutal fashion), he has openly rushed to their aid, in almost frantic fashion, as though he were trying to resuscitate their physical well being, as well as their pride and self-esteem. A curious, yet admirable trait, on the part of Iron Mike.
When tyson was young i reckon he is the best boxer that has ever lived......i feel sad at how he fell from grace and 'went crazy'.....he is insane....don't argue....as much as i love mike.
I saw this live in Vegas when I won Showtime contest while working for the cable company. The crowd was really going strong for Botha and Mike did look sluggish but I knew he would knock him out. You could tell he was just looking for that one perfect punch.
Ali was just as great a fighter in the 70's as he was in the 60's. And the fact that he won the title(twice) when people doubted him and said he was "past his prime" just goes to show you how much of a genius he was. Look at his competition and then look at tyson's..... The first fighter to not be afraid of Tyson took his title and pretty much his career because after that everyone knew he was "rubber" Mike Tyson.
"Tyson just showing no speed whatsoever" "Looks like he's in slow motion" "He just can't get off two punches" "Know that is the mark of a shot fighter when you can't get off punches" (BANG!) "Down goes Botha!" "That's all it took!" "It's over, it's over. Mike Tyson has returned!" "That's what happens when you've got a great puncher!" Announcers! Gotta love em!!!
Seen the Tyson movie recently. Was really insightful and shows a deeper side to the man many claim to be an animal. An animal in the ring, maybe, but an intelligent and profound human being outside of the ring.
Tyson said that his relation with Cus taught him how to interact with people and gave him a better perspective towards life in general. We didnt start to see the messed up Tyson until Cus was gone. So wether Cus instilled anything useful in Tyson is up for debate but the fact that Tyson was at his best mentally in his days with Cus, I think says a lot.
The way Tyson just walks off lol. People say Tyson didn't fight anyone but he was fighting big guys way bigger and heavier than him. To ko em like he did was awesome
Tyson was and always will remain the most feared boxer in history 95% of his fights were won before a punch was landed, his problem was people in powerful positions disliked his aura.He is an all time great just a shame how misunderstood he was.King,Givens and any1 else who made fame and fortune out of Tyson deserve the same injustices he had
this is all of tysons past training leftovers.. his experience carried him through his final matches when he got out of prison. he never had the same mentality.
I am musician, an artist..I am here as always happen in internet...I begun with Little Richard, now Im here... And when Tyson is helping at the end is The Most beauty Thing I saw in boxing. goose skin you call it??
i always thought tyson was awesome. i used to get up at 4am to watch him fight live from the other side of the atlantic. I like the way he tries to help botha when he falls back on the ropes. you don't see many boxers who show that kind of courtesy
man, i can remember this one! We woke up very early to watch this one! I can still hear my dad saying: "He only did this to get the reward at the end", lol
Botha is a good fighter. However, Tyson was aware of his oppponent's strength and decided to finish the duel at round 5. Botha's falling down was scary.
People think boxing is all arms, shoulders and chest. WRONG. Pay close attention how the legs, hip flexors and a slight turn of the waist generate full leverage to knock whatever's in front of you down. His balance and stance is good, distance and timing with accuracy, PIEYOW!!! Perfect Righthand with leverage. SUUUWEEEET!!!

that was what was cool about mike...almost all of his knockouts he would check on the opponent immediately after the count out to make sure they were okay
@jmeove It's beautiful to see such a ferocious animal be so considerate & concerned about having potentially injured someone while doing his job. You can really tell that at some point, Tyson didn't like fighting anymore, but was good at it & it payed the bills. It's wild to see him feel so bad for making a guy eat his fist like that. He really is an animal...he can be royally pissed off one minute and crying like a baby the next...no filter, just...unobstructed emotion & will to survive.
What made the 70's the 'golden age' is the amount of competition. Its a simple fact that number of boxers has declined. Fighters fought more often and had to win more fights before getting a title shot. So the ones who got through were tougher and more experienced. As for 'crazy', the majority of knowledgable boxing fans would pick Ali to win that fight, and would call you crazy for suggesting that todays division has better fighters than Holmes or Norton, for example.
GO watch his fight with Clifford Etienne and you'll see its something he does all the time, help pick up his opponents so they don't hurt themselves. Tyson is pure class!
I would not say they got "owned" as much as I would say, look at how fast people forget what they were thinking, how fast truth becomes blind, when something big happens all of a sudden. Tyson was shot, they saw it, so did most, but he still had some of that power that helped make him feared. People want to believe "He is Back", but the only thing "back" was our memories of a once great and promising Champion.
Botha was doing really well in this fight up until this point, I have a deep amount of respect for what Tyson did here for Botha, he could have just left him suffer but he tried to help him especially with Botha being a Boer I have to give props to these two warriors of the ring
Yeah mega, Mike had a good trainer in the 80's and his focus was on his profession completely coming up. After he won the title, he slowly seemed to become a power puncher only, compared to having a duel threat with combos and power early in career. Life made him lose focus
One serious punch from a boxer that knows form can be lights out for a MMA guy, on the ground or standing up. All the big MMA stars of today do boxing more then ground. This goes to superman96
An adult's personality is formed in it's childhood. That goes for all of us, you, me and Tyson. If you watch the documentaries and read the interviews you can see why he did what he did.
Mike Tyson was the most erratic boxer in modern times. Earlier in this fight he had been trying to break Botha's arm (same as he tried to do to McBride in his last fight) then after knocking him out he's trying to help him... a very dangerous, unpredictable man
Even with as much controversy around him, when you see him help up someone he just ko'd it makes you think maybe he isn't as bad as the media wants you to believe he is.
man im a big lennox lewis fan ,n ive boxed at heavyweight had 50 amateur bouts n 3 as pro so i know what im talking about ,however tyson in his prime was simply unbeatable a true boxing freak ,lennox got him at the right time
he done an instinctive punch something he has trainnend for his whole life time and time again and without thinkign almost like a reflex through it when the opitunity came
Tyson's ability to pull out big shots like that to win fights he was losing was why he thought he wasn't past it later in his career, when from every other aspect he clearly was past it. Slow, no head movement, taking shots to make shots, no more three punch combinations. Very sad he didn't stop earlier, and that he didn't have someone to tell him to stop.
Nobody is mentioning Max Baer, that guy had the hardest punch ever. I agree somewhat with your list fadethetrade, but instead of Lewis I'd put Ken Norton.
You can't ask for a better timed KO than that. Almost like something you'd watch in a movie. "The mark of a shot fighter when you can't get off punches OHHH!!!!!!!!!" :)
@AlexiusMoore, comaring their careers is relevant because it shows that every time Tyson faced a top Heavyweight anywhere near their prime, he unfolded badly and got beaten. Ali being 'knocked senseless' by Cooper was complacency and coasting so he could make his 5th round prediction come true. But if we're going on head to head, Ali had all the things Tyson struggled against in abundance; great jab, superb chin, height, unshakable self belief and could rough it up when he had to.
I like this clip. As much as Tyson was made out to be some kind of bad guy, when he knocked a guy out and they were counted out, he was the first over to help them back up.
Has anyone ever noticed how Tyson always rushed to aid an opponent he just knocked out. This fearsome brute was filled with compassion and sympathy.I like to believe that the "real" Mike Tyson was the guy who cared .
THIS!!!!
i love how the announcer says "that is a mark of a shot fighter if he cant get off punches" the same second Tyson ko's the guy
One of THOSE moments in boxing. Such an amazing punch, then Tyson tries to help him at the end.
He was a fighting machine with a hell of a punch, but he had a heart bigger than his punch!
i love how commentators changes their tone so quickly
that was a devasting shot even when tyson was past his prime he still had a strong punch
"That is the mark of a shot fighter when you can't get off punches..."
*2 seconds later* - "THUD"
"Yeah that's what happens when you have a great puncher"
LOL
LMFAOOOO
the sound of Tyson connecting with Botha's face reminds me of the sound you get when you kick a basketball really hard
This was a great KO by Tyson when everyone, including the announcers, were pronouncing him finished. He showed he still had it. Gracious of him to check Botha out after the KO too.

One thing I loved about Tyson was that he was humble, even after he knocked you out, he still showed his opponent respect
One minute the commentators are saying Tyson is slow and looks like he's fighting in slow motion and the next minute is, "Mike Tyson has returned", Just beautiful.
What a gentleman, Killer on the outside compassionate on the inside. Mike Tyson a true champion!!
Mike showed alot of respect for fighters that didn't talk shit before the fight. He even kissed the fighters that he liked.
Is this what they mean, to knock someone into nxt week?
Cause DAMN!

In my view, Tyson was 50% boxer, and 50% brawler. He actually looked like a skillful fighter in his earlier fights.
probably one of the best knockouts I've ever seen...especially under the circumstances that match.
"That's what happens when you got a great puncher."
The commentator is a genius.
Ali was just as great a fighter in the 70's as he was in the 60's. I always love how Tyson alwyas helps guys up when he knocks em out. Say wat u will abt him, he's a good sportsman.
"Tyson just showing no speed whatsoever" "Looks like he's in slow motion" "He just can't get off two punches" "Know that is the mark of a shot fighter when you can't get off punches" (BANG!) Seen the Tyson movie recently. Was really insightful and shows a deeper side to the man many claim to be an animal. An animal in the ring, maybe, but an intelligent and profound human being outside of the ring.
That was one wicked punch to the throat . I'm just glad that Botha is able to breathe after that.
Tyson said that his relation with Cus taught him how to interact with people and gave him a better perspective towards life in general. We didnt start to see the messed up Tyson until Cus was gone. So wether Cus instilled anything useful in Tyson is up for debate but the fact that Tyson was at his best mentally in his days with Cus, I think says a lot.
tyson was an animal but he respected people who went through even a percentage of what he went through in his life
i love how mike calmly walks on after he knocks the fuck out that guy...he was like " I'm done here, gonna go eat some children now ".
"He just can't get off two punches...that is the mark of a shot fighter."
BOP!
Pwned.
Fuck. What a punch !
Nice touch by tyson helping botha up, it's a shame we didn't see more of this side of mike.
The way Tyson just walks off lol. People say Tyson didn't fight anyone but he was fighting big guys way bigger and heavier than him. To ko em like he did was awesome

wow that final punch is really awesome, is like a rock on the face.
this is all of tysons past training leftovers.. his experience carried him through his final matches when he got out of prison. he never had the same mentality.
I am musician, an artist..I am here as always happen in internet...I begun with Little Richard, now Im here...

that was a nice KO. It was nice to see Tyson as a sportsman
i think tyson really showed sportsmanship on this!
at first a knockout, and then he tried to help him up!
this is,what sports is about ;)
that's awsome, he helps the guy he knocked out, rarely see that respect in boxing, only mma
He has always shown respect after the fight.. Look at postfight interviews of Tyson-Ruddock and Lewis
Tyson was one of the greatest slipper of jabs. He would slip your jab and counter with short rock solid hooks.
Botha is a good fighter. However, Tyson was aware of his oppponent's strength and decided to finish the duel at round 5. Botha's falling down was scary.

wow 240p, thanks for making me feel like an impoverished African random UA-cam video.
that was classy and good sportsmanship of tyson at the end of the fight...

I admire Botha for getting in a ring with Tyson without earmuffs.
hahahha its like Tyson heard the commentators, dropped Botha and was like "yall were saying.....???"
I love how the announcers were talking shit immanently before Tyson knocked him out.
I would not say they got "owned" as much as I would say, look at how fast people forget what they were thinking, how fast truth becomes blind, when something big happens all of a sudden. Thats one of the most devastating punches in combat sport history.

It was a short powerfull punch ,and Botha walked right into it!!!! Damn!!!!!
Lol. Love the commentator: "He can't get off any punches. That's a mark of a shot fighter." Then, BAM!
Yeah mega, Mike had a good trainer in the 80's and his focus was on his profession completely coming up. After he won the title, he slowly seemed to become a power puncher only, compared to having a duel threat with combos and power early in career. Life made him lose focus
It was classy how Iron Mike checked up on him after he fucked his shit up.
People don't give him enough respect.
One serious punch from a boxer that knows form can be lights out for a MMA guy, on the ground or standing up. All the big MMA stars of today do boxing more then ground. This goes to superman96
one of the best shots in boxing ever!!!
Tyson is actually an intellectual guy. Boxing needs another Tyson today..
Tyson has a good sense of sportmanship
Tyson respected the guy and it showed at the end of the fight.
An adult's personality is formed in it's childhood. That goes for all of us, you, me and Tyson. If you watch the documentaries and read the interviews you can see why he did what he did.

Even with as much controversy around him, when you see him help up someone he just ko'd it makes you think maybe he isn't as bad as the media wants you to believe he is.
massive, he has a fist of steel. great job dude!!! im totally subscribing to u!
man im a big lennox lewis fan ,n ive boxed at heavyweight had 50 amateur bouts n 3 as pro so i know what im talking about ,however tyson in his prime was simply unbeatable a true boxing freak ,lennox got him at the right time
Gotta respect the great Iron Mike Tyson what a hit.
he done an instinctive punch something he has trainnend for his whole life time and time again and without thinkign almost like a reflex through it when the opitunity came
damn still luv diz guy..tyson da best knockouts @ his primetime..

if only we could see mike in the ufc or mma. Drool !!!
botha gave tyson all he could take for 5 rounds, i respect that, thats more than most can say
Great punch. Ferdie was just saying Tyson was shot and finished about a second before it landed, lol.
What a trip... right in the middle of the announcers talking about how he's shot... BOOM!
That is very admirable. Tyson was an animal though it is a pity things went wrong in his prime.
thats awesome as how he helps the fighter as he falls, great sportsman-ship
Can we rephrase that please, to read " It looks exactly like Lewis knocked out a washed up, out of condition Mike Tyson." Thank you.
No one can compare to Mike when it comes to speed.
Mike Tyson helped his opponent up after he knocked them out as a tribute to Jack Dempsey, who used to do the same thing
Whoa....I remember this fight when I was younger...he hit him hard as SHYT!!!!!
we love u IRON MAN.u r still the best.MIKE TYSON is the greatest.
He was just walking around then just stepped and pow dude was history
he tried to helped Botha after the bell rings, a good gesture.
sickest one punch ko ever. period. that punch traveled less than 12 inches
I just noticed Mike Tyson always went to help out everyone after he almost killed them lol
@AlexiusMoore, comaring their careers is relevant because it shows that every time Tyson faced a top Heavyweight anywhere near their prime, he unfolded badly and got beaten. Tyson was so far from being what he was in 1991 and even further from what he reached in fighting ability in late 87.
Commentators must've felt like ASS right after that KO. Haha.
I like this clip. As much as Tyson was made out to be some kind of bad guy, when he knocked a guy out and they were counted out, he was the first over to help them back up.
That punch... Diesel was a diesel of a puncher....
...he had power, but shitloads of TORQUE!
