In this video we'll set up your permanently modded PS Vita to use a microSD card for storage. We're going to use the simple new YAMT method for this hack, which will cut down boot times from 30 seconds to just 13 seconds thanks to its TexFAT file system.

I've updated this method with a new video, which you can find here: ua-cam.com/video/s7OrS7v767I/v-deo.html
Hey RGC.
I have a question. I have a PS Vita with a ton of downloaded (legal)games, can I use the sd2vita method to just use a bigger memory card? I want all the games I bought on one memory card, but worried of getting my account banned, because I also have a PS4.
TL;DR
Can I use a my main account for this or Should I make a dummy account?
Vita deploy is so incredible.
So is auto plugins2. It does all the heavy lifting
Followed all of these instructions and then formatted my fucking memory card.
I know you probably won't see this but could I use these steps to add an sd card to my already jailbroken vita that was only using the vita memory card
Back after a month since successfully jailbreaking and optimizing the PS Vita, sorry for not giving this video a like earlier but I definitely did now! Thank you for this awesome, straight to the point tutorial. This video made me look into my boxes of “junk” to find the beautiful Vita and relive it in a way I never did before. Again, I thank you brother and everyone else reading this, have a great damn day! 💪🏽
Glad to hear that it worked for you!
For those of you currently using the older (Storage Manager plugin) method for running SD2Vita, I've now added migration instructions to the written guide in my video description. So you can switch over for faster boot speeds and more stability without losing any of your data. Enjoy!
ummm in your amazon link its got your zipcode O.O
@@fourteen00 Haha, yeah you can also see what my wife had in our Amazon cart at about 01:15 in the video. It's all good, that's the fun of UA-cam. It's no secret we live in Hawaii, and Mother's Day is coming soon in case anyone wants to buy my wife some fancy soap dispensers :D
@@RetroGameCorps Yeah haha, just making sure its all good. :D Great video btw. Keep it up!
What is the best retro console that you have reviewed?
@@ChiefJudge You probably have VitaShell saved on your SD card instead of the system itself. Reset it to the original file system layout that you had in AutoPlugin II before following my instructions, then move VitaShell to your internal storage (or memory card) from your SD card. Then do the merging instructions again.
I'm a simple man, I see a Video about the PS VITA, I watch.

you a real life saver bro... this is by far the easiest, straight forward, detailed and hassle free guide for this... ive been at this for weeks
Thank you for this guide! This is so much easier and faster than the other method
Great quality videos. By far the best I've seen for these kind of guides. Really clear and concise. Thank you! Definitely gained a subscriber! Can't wait to see the retroarch video, definitely going to be Jailbreaking my vita once I've seen that video 👌🏻
This is literally the most simple, best description of how to do this. Every other vid makes it more complex than it actually is... I like and subscribed...
Another great video. I bought, and modded a Vita last fall. I wish you have videos back then to follow, would have been a much easier process. Thank you Russ for all you do!! Hello to Chicken too !!
Thanks Peter, Chicken says "meow" back.
These videos have been great! I'd love to see a video on installing the ports such as GTA 3
Thank you for this tutorial it worked perfectly! And the video was short and sweet I appreciate it!
You are doing god's work for vita users, thank you and keep the good content!
I think it would be best if you did the PSP/PS1 guide next, bc I think the vita is the best way posible to play both library of games
My SD2VITA finally came in the mail today! I followed your guide step by step and it works like a charm. Thanks
Great to hear!
Are you still able to earn trophies while playing a digital game that is downloaded on this modded storage?
@@SlaterNoSkater1295 yep
@@RetroGameCorps I ask because in another video that showed this process, the person showed a pop up which said that trophies aren't earned while the application is loaded. I've never modded a console of any kind before and I'd like to still be able to earn trophies and use my original PSN account
@@SlaterNoSkater1295 I earn them all the time on my modded device!
Dude,
Your videos are just perfect.
Thanks for sharing.
I was following a french tutorial and ended up formatting my ps vita memory card instead of the sd card.
Now I can enjoy all my playstation content on one support after transfering my psp games saves but I will keep my psp around.
Thanks for the video.
I've managed to set up YAMT + USB Drive on my PS Vita TV with the guide. The only difference is that it requires the full version, format USB instead of SD under YAMT, and select legacy mode for USB. So far it works fine after changing it, just that Vita Homebrew is taking a very long time to launch.
Great video and much easier than the other guides. Saved a lot of hassle for me.
I would recommend doing a battery replacement at some point, good idea for a console this old.
I've got mine since 2011 and it's actually still pretty good.
So easy to do (on a 1000 anyway) too, something like 8 screws, a bit of gentle prying and that's it. I'm just waiting for my new battery to arrive, the original one was left discharged for about three years so it's as dead as disco.
Mine is still at 95% health with 126 cycles and 65000 minuites of total use
@@IpSyCo how to check battery health on 1000?
Please continue this video series!!! Awesome channel
Thanks for making this video series. Hacking my Vita and PSTV are my next projects after I finish up setting up emulators and front-ends on my Shield TV and flash LineageOS on my OnePlus 6T (my android emulation "handheld").
Thank you very much!! I followed this tutorial and the one you have to jailbreak a vita and it worked flawlessly.
Awesome! I rarely get comments about it working, mostly from people who get stuck on a part for one reason or another. So it's nice to hear that it works for most people :)
Your Retroarch with box art and gameplay pics looked cool. Would love to see that next.
Okay, I think I will do that after I do an Adrenaline video.
@@RetroGameCorps thank you! You gained a sub! Really liked your work!
I've hacked 3 Vitas and always done it the old way. This method looks really good, especially the formatting internally.
Cheers Russ, don't have a Vita (yet) but still finding these guides super interesting. :)
Thanks for watching anyway!
...Grabs PS Vita off the shelf and starts charging it up. I need that YAMT boot speed!
Thanks Again, another great video tutorial!
Too easy to follow, thanks bro! 😊
Hey man, just want to say thank you! These videos are excellent.
Thanks, glad you like them!
I love this, easy simple and fast, 5 minutes done
tnks u . the Guide for fast boot is something to take look.
You should show us how to run a custom boot screen. Great content btw
Got it all sorted fella brilliant tutorials thanks 👌.
Thanks for your work pal !
Yeah!!! I received my SD2Vita card a couple of weeks ago and have been waiting for this video! I know what I'm doing tonight... :P) Another great video!
I just wanted to add an update that I completed the update to 128GB! It's amazing! Now I can actually install all the PSVita games at once from my library! Thanks Russ!
after rebooting it, there was no uma0 file what should i do next?
@@forrealeyezonly1337 My first reboot also did the same thing. I selected the option to reformat the SD Card one more time and rebooted, and it showed up for me and continues to work after multiple reboots.
@@Gossamer2 thanks, after some reboots it showed up
7:03 That’s what I was waiting for.
Great video Russ, I would suggest doing the adrenaline tutorial next for PSP and PS1 games before doing Retroarch and other systems.
That seems to be the overwhelming consensus, so that's next on the list! Thanks for the feedback :)
I've found some PS1 games don't work very well because adrenaline is missing backwards compatible popsloader
This was great thank you! Please show us what emulators you like to natively use on the Vita to avoid having to play through Adrenaline.
At 5:18, if you have a 1000, dont change it into interal storage, do memory card. (I think you forgot to mention 1000 vs 2000 but its all good)
Yes, he forgot to say it in the video, but if you chek his written guide, you'll find more details and "tools"
@@ProblemanMx definitely, I’ve been playing my vita non stop ever since lol
Also, even if you DO have a 2000, but followed his guide wrong, and installed all your vpks (vitashell, etc.) on to your 8gb proprietary vita sd card, you can still shift from your 8gb card to your new ssd
@@dweeceman how fella need help my vita shell just vanished, got it back tho, how do i get them over to the psv adapter sd card?
Поздно прочитал твой комментарий)постучался час чтобы понять почему не работает,но каким то чудом попал куда нужно и после того как вставил microsd попросилась приставка перезагруузиться и все заработало как нужно)
i was wondering how to swap between saving on my sd card and my vita memory card. you PERFECTLY solved my isse. thank you. thank you.
Would like to see the next steps after hacking/modding the vita. Getting all the applications and getting emulators/games to run and so on
THis is so great!! What next? Not sure, I would like to see retroarch at it full potential (and yes, testing with super Mario world 2...) Or Maybe a tutorial of the best apps for vita games, not sure
Retroarch 1.9.2 for Vita was just released 4/30/21 so that would be a nice video
Sorry for multiple comments, as I am going I'm finding more questions. Would you be able to discuss over clocking the vita side of games (or the PSP side too?), upscaling options, and the various worth while plug ins offered in Autoplugin2?
very good and easy tutorial, thanks!
Thanks Russ for this awesome tutorial very handy :)
You're very welcome!
Very helpful video. Thanks!
i worship this channel. thank you so much.
For anyone having trouble with the PSP recognizing the sd2vita, the adapter itself might be broken. Had to get a new one and it worked just fine.
hey man i really want to thank you for this tutorial i tried the other tutorials and it was alot of mess thank u a again u saved me
No problem!
Great video as always. Can you do a tutorial showing how to convert from the older storage manager to YAMT?
Yeah, that would be super helpful! I modded so long ago... I wonder how much of a difference it would make.

I just added migration instructions to the written guide, enjoy!
@@RetroGameCorps can I buy the 512 in PS vita will it read it and work
Wh...at? I was waiting for your video tutorial but then decided to just go ahead and set my SD2VITA following your written guide. I was happy last night once everything is up and running. Then, I woke up this morning and it seems that there is a brand new method! Should I re-do it? Mine works fine at the moment thanks to your written guide (previous version).
I've added migration instructions to the written guide in case you want to convert over. I did!
@@RetroGameCorps Oh! I will check it out! Thanks!!
Thank for the new method ^^
You bet!
Well this was an awesome video :)
Could you possibly make a video on upgrading to YAMT from Storage Manager?
Thanks for the tutorial !
thank bro, top video!
Keep them coming 😎😎
psp and ps1 emulators first, thanks love your tutorials.
retroarch guide please. it was super buggy for me last time i tried it. i ended up getting a 351p just because things worked better with less hassle. but i still like my vita for ps1/psp games and i'd like to see how dreamcast emulation is shaping up
I love your videos new subscriber great content
Welcome!!
Thanks for this tutorial bro
love it man thanks
Great video! Definitely the perfect timing after getting my PS Vita.
One question tho.. I am very curious what would happen if you would configure 2 vitas the same way, and then switch the cards between them.. Would that work at all? I've got a Vita for my wife and I would like to copy all the content from my Vita to hers.
Thanks in advance! And yet again, great content!
Hi, I do exactly that with my two Vitas. I can swap the cards between them and the games and saves swap perfectly. You need to rebuild the database each time you switch devices (it's an automatic process and takes less than a minute), other than that it's 100% seamless.
@@RetroGameCorps Thanks for the answer! I will definitely give it a try :)
I am currently investigating if something like NetPlay is possible by playing PS1 games but cannot find anything yet. If you have some information about it and you feel like "yeah man, I wanna do a video about it", I would love it!
See you on the next vid :) !
Hello, I have 2 questions, kind of:
1) Would this work just fine if I also popped in a PS Vita memory card, side by side?
2) Would this still work if I removed the SD2Vita and inserted an actual gamecard?
I have many physical games that I don't need to download as digital.
love bro thank you so much keep it up
Nice video Russ. I have the same modded Blue Vita and it is great. I think you should cover FTP file transferring via Vita Shell and maybe FileZilla on the computer. It is more convenient than USB. There used to be UA-camrs named TechJames and Skullator that had useful Vita content but I think their channels got wiped due to Nintendo nonsense. I would hate to see your channel have similar issues.
Tech James is still around
Thanks for sharing!
the reason why the storagemgr is slow at cold boot is it checks all memory cards first before it applies the storage configuration.
the bootup is like this
1st it checks sd2vita, and other memory cards if all are present
if all present it loads the current config (eg sdvita as ux0 and memory card as uma0)
if not then it loads the default storage configuration (1gb for slim and pstv) or the memory card
this is to avoid showing that error mentioning about formatting the memory card, this is due that plugin is failed to detect the sd2vita and even if you confirm formatting the memory card, nothing will happen and will just display a error message.
tl;dr, YAMT is basically works like a old sd2vita driver plugin. while storagemgr actually have some sort of failover feature on it just in case something goes wrong on other storage medium (eg your sd2vita is not working).
Thanks for this tutorial…can’t wait for the next ones.
Got my vita hacked and mega memory card running. Now just excited to see what you teach me next! 😅 Master Vita Hacker!
Hi,
For the next video maybe you can talk how to setup moonlight to stream steam games on your vita ?
Also if you have time, talk about the N64 emulator Daedalusx64 performances in 2021 ?
Thanks for this nice video 👌👌❤️❤️😀😀
Can't wait for your other Vita tutorials. By the way, is it possible to use saves from a different account? I plan to set this up by creating a new PSN account. But I want to import my games and save to be usable by this new account. I intend to save my saves and games first before importing it to the sd card. I do not want to use my main PSN account for my Jailbreak Vita
How do I make backups of my Vita Carts? I don't have alot but it would be nice if I could use the SD2VITA and never have to take it out again
Are you gonna do a video about the migration from StorageManager to YAMT?
I'm already running a 256GB SD through sd2vita, would this method still be faster without formatting? Or would I need to back up, wipe/reformat on the Vita and restore to get the speed benefit?
Ok, you got me hooked. Been wanting to buy a handheld game machine for emulation and with your videos, I have decided the Vita is what I will do. I love modding (got my first computer in 1983 - a coco 2, and got a Dr 64 for my N64, and got my first computer science degree in 1991, so yes, I am a nerd) so I will have a blast with this baby. Your videos are very well done.
When you transfer over all this data to the new SD card, does it transfer game and save data over as well or do I have to transfer over my game downloads some other way? Great guides, thanks for the help!
Hi did you figure it out? I was wondering that too
will you make any tutorial for the 3ds next?
Good videos and easy to understand explanation even with my bad engslih 👍
I ran into an issue where Vitashell wouldn't give me the mark all or copy option at all. What I ended up doing was copying the entire uxo contents to my PC, then putting the SD card into the PC and copying all to it. Worked. Just make sure you have all files visible in windows.
Hello my friend! I really would like to see which plugins that you use.
Thank you!
Bro… THANK YOUUUUUU
Thank you for your help, for your guide, for everything sir! You really helped me a lot. My vita kept on having corrupt files, slow loading but after YAMT it really is much more stable! Thank you!!
Very helpful
Can you make a video on vita retroarch stuff like adding box and stuff? There’s like no solid videos on it and I’ve failed trying a bunch
Thanks a lot the most easy method, i make it in PSV Fat 😎
thanks bro, you are awesome
Hey man great video. I just wanted to ask about the sd2vita plugin. If I use this method, is that no longer required?
Thanks. Another great vid. I presume its safe to delete the YAMT installer app once the process is complete?
You can, but I would recommend keeping it around because it has an uninstall script, in case you need to uninstall YAMT in the future (if another update comes around, for example).
YAMT looks so much easier than the old method. I would be tempted to try to do this with new card.
I added migration instructions to the written guide, enjoy!
Hi, awesome video! Any idea if you know if a 1TB sd card will work? Thanks
Hi, and thank you for the guide!!
I know this is a bit off-topic, but do you know what could be the problem if, when I start retroarch, everything is covered in "?"
It's that I'm not quite sure what can cause this problem
So ports will either have the commercial files included in an AIO file, OR we will have to merge our own with the included ‘data’ folder in most port downloads, correct?
can you use physical games with this?
or do you have to swap the storage in the settings, power off, take out the card, power back on, and then insert the cartridge
I get that this made so you can store all of your games digitally onto the device, I'm just curious
Thanks for uploading this guide, may I ask if I use YAMT, and put my backup games on SD card, will the frame lag / sound sync issues (not sure on the term) be addressed, I played Warriors Orochi 3 using an old method and it seems they have delayed between voice and cutscenes
Can you try to install Sonic 1&2 ports from android? I'm having issues with my save states: everytime I close the games my save files are gone. I've tried many things but nothing seems to fix this. Thank you for the great content.
Amazing video man. I have done this method with a 256gb card and it works perfect. I wanted to upgrade to a 512gb. Is there a method to transfer everything over but keep everything?
i think this method does only work if you have hacked your vita permanent. I could follow all the steps but after setting the device storage settings the uma0 folder does not show up in vita shell and it seems like many people have that issue
another THANK YOU !!!!!!!!
Do first ps1 and psp please
That’s where the Vita shines 👍
