I learned everything in this video the hard way. I had A-1 obedient dog, who did competition heel, sits and downs so fast and hard I’m surprised he didn’t hurt himself, however I couldn’t 100% trust him in public. Why? Because I let him run my house. I was over affectionate allowed him to be pushy and control my space. I ended up with an obedient, but entitled, arrogant, jerk of a dog. I stopped all the affection, chit chat, being on my bed, standing on the console in my truck etc; took charge of the inside of the house and everything changed. It was very hard to do because I wanted to love on him etc. If your having these issues I encourage you to hear the message Larry is laying out in this video. He is right on.
"It was very hard to do because I wanted to love on him etc." I know what you mean. I was lucky to watch Larry's videos on how to live with your dog before I got my Cane Corso. (I had never trained a dog but I was committed) I think how I live with my dog made a huge contribution to how well she turned out (great!). How is your dog doing now?
I'm going through this right now, w/ my 6 month German shepherd, husky, lapponian mix( I have my hands full and I need soooo much education)Smarter than me. Does commands that you won't believe, potty trained day one, yes it was constant taking him out (except stay, he barks EVERY TIME 🧐) . BUT he's my baby!!!! I'm preparing for an empty nest w my three teens (just saying, bc I think that's why, I am the way I am) I don't crate, even though i have one on both floors. he has free roam (not working rn, so he's almost never alone for more than an hour), constant attention and I know I baby him.. I did stop the co sleeping VERY quickly (within a week) because he wouldn't let anyone near me. I did that instinctively. That was at 10weeks. Now within the last two weeks he's reactive about EVERYTHING and with everyone except me. he thinks he is my boss and acts like I need a leader. he also has extreme separation anxiety from me. So bad he won't go outside with anyone but me. I've been saying, this is all my fault and I need the training. So glad I just found this channel. But I'm wondering, how do you reset the relationship and stop the coddling. 🤦🏽♀️🙏🏽
For you it might feel like you keep repeating yourself and sometimes indeed there is a story where we go "oh yeah, he mentioned that before". But don't be mistaken: your videos help out a lot. Ignore people talking trash.. Know there are people out there who appreciate the time and effort you put in sharing your experiences through this channel. We will go pick up our German Shepherd puppy in a few hours! We will take your advice to heart!
I love it when my trainers harp on me about certain things if I'm not doing it right. Keep correcting me till I'm on point, I'm not offended, I'm grateful and it's what I'm paying for lol
Hello Larry! I´m living with "2nd hand" dogs for about 27 yrs now ( most of them had severe behavioral issues when I took them in) & your video is a great reminder, that we all should go back to the basics instead of listening to all those so called Experts & their scientific bs. I for my part will never stop learning from people like you, or Robert C. Thanks so much for educating folks! Lots of love from Austria to you & yours 🤗🐾
Larry thank you for posting this video. Especially the story of Bear. I just adopted a 5yr old German Shepherd that knows all the basics, but is not respectful in my home. I appreciate your honesty about adding emotion and expecting the dog to fill that void in my life. That was an eye opener for me. I will take your advice and do that challenge video where I am the captain of my house. Thanks again and keep posting your knowledgeable information about building a good relationship between pet owner and dog. 🐾
Loved that video! My 6-year-old GSD has great behavior in the house, loose leash walking, and basic obedience, and totally socialized with people and other dogs. I can take him anywhere in public, we love street fairs, and yes, there are other dogs that he totally ignores without the e-collar on. I purchased your e-collar training book, when he was 2, but I screwed up somewhere along the line. He goes nuts when a dog goes past my yard, and his recall sucks! I sent him for a two-week bored and train upstate NY to help me with whatever I was doing wrong with the e-collar, and they did nothing but basic command reinforcement. They said I would have to pay another $3,000 for e-collar training. I'm 70 years old, my husband passed away 4 years ago, and that money doesn't come easy. I stopped using the e-collar for over a month, and I'm starting your book over. I also just joined your sit and stay program. Thank you for your help over the years. Your videos have been amazing.
It's not too long. After implementing Larry's approach over the last two years I have to say everything in this video is so important. Our dogs amaze our family when they come to visit. Thank you Larry.
HI LARRY thank you i learned so much, i learned dog training 1978 mr lucky nyc. HE TAUGHT MY FIRST DOG 1968 GERMAN SHEP, OU ARE SO RIGHT IN ALL YOU SAY THANKS JOHN
hey brother, just found your channel last week. have two dogs who have been unruly. great dogs, but just dont really listen. anywho, found out im the problem and followed your instructions to a t. long story short, ive had these guys for five years and i have made more progress in the past week than in their entire lives. you CAN teach old dogs new tricks. god bless you larry. GOD FRICKIN BLESS YOU!
Everything you say resonates so deep with me! I am a long time horse trainer and have worked with dogs on and off and had to stop offering my assistance to dog owners for this exact reason. With horses spacial pressure and truly respecting the handlers space is so profound, it is with dogs too but many people neglect to see that. I worked with two beautiful Rottweilers once, both females. The one female was very dominant and ran the house and started attacking the other female. I worked with this family for a month and had some great success with the dogs, but the wife was impossible. She thought the dog laying with her on her bed growling at her husband when he approached or tickled her was cute, this dog would growl at the cat if it jumped up on the bed, she never seemed to grasp that the dog wasn't "protecting" her but was in fact claiming territory and being dominant, long story short 2 months after I left the dogs got into a huge fight outside at the fenceline, the dominant girl absolutely maimed the other dog and was subsequently euthanized. This was the last family I ever worked with. The lady acted like everything was a joke during our sessions and the outcome was so horrific.
Great messages in this video Mr Krohn. I teach my children that a dog is a true mirror for us. Not just over all behaviour but minute by minute. Your dog will respond to every emotion that you are feeling. No matter what. Not just sponges but tired mirrors. Thanks to my dog my children are now learning to control their emotions in a next level way. Bare in mind my kids have been through a lot of trauma in their short lives so it has been hard for me to teach them how to control their emotions. Everytime I show them how our puppy changes when their emotions spike, they then work harder to control themselves and they are doing so well. My dog "Blue" is so well behaved for an 8 month old puppy, I believe it's because we have all worked really hard to teach her to be calm in the house and behave in a really cool manner. She still plays and is allowed to be silly but it stops when we say stop. Thank you so much for your words of reality. B
@Larry Watched your videos on how to live with your dog before I got my Cane Corso. I believe this approach made a huge contribution to how well she's turned out - a pleasure to own.. THANKYOU!
I really like this video. A lot. I’m a new trainer. I feel like the obedience is a pathway to build the relationship in the home. I like the idea of obedience in the home to set the tone for leadership. I didn’t know the idea about the dog coming for petting to the sofa- interesting. I have walked dogs for ten years, also and the prong collar has been the only way I have ever got a dog to heel. I believe the idea of in home behavior and outside work with heeling before any ecollar work is essential to create and shape the dog. I have only used the ecollar with one client and it’s a scared dog. We used it to enforce the dog back to place with door etiquette. It is working well. He conditioned with his owner for over a week. My ecollar has a pager and I’ve been taught to use that when a dog is loading on another dog. I hope this will work. We will take this scared aggressive dog out eventually and when he starts to lose it - distract him with the pager. Ty for your sincerity and kindness. Ur book is really good. 😊
You have no idea how much of a god-send your videos have been for me. Long story short, I made the completely uninformed decision last year to get a male golden retriever puppy and then three months later I got a female Dalmatian puppy. (Oof.) Then this summer I rescued a boxer/rottweiler mix who's 4 years old and was abused, from what I can tell. My golden retriever had established himself as alpha and started getting aggressive with the new rescue, and the boxer/rottweiler didn't back down so there's been a lot of dog on dog aggression in the home. I was starting to lose hope until I found your channel and now I'm committed to working to get harmony back in my home. Seriously, thank you.
Just watched this for the second time first time my GSD was 1yr old I listened to you then my girl is lovely in the house she is now 2yrs old have sat outside with her for 1 month teaching her not to bark at people and it works she is so relaxed no more guarding her obedience is a bit slow but after listening to you I am not going to beat myself up thanks for all your help just sent for your book and a ecollar just for her safety as we have a lot of cats in Cyprus and I want her off lead as much as possible to have the best life
Larry I want to say thank you! This video was not only informative but also I loved hearing more about your personal stories. Can we please please please get more long videos like this wear you teach us dog related stuff and talk about your personal experiences as well? Amazing videp!
I have no idea who you are but this is amazing. I believe and completely agree with everything you said. I have a pack of dogs and I control them with all behavior based training. I never realized I was so on track with another person. I have always wanted to do behavior training for people and their dogs.
Omg! Okay I have watched literally every dog trainer on line for the past several years. You sir are the man! - I have taught special education for 30 years. Behavior management with difficult students. With whom I have had phenomenal success. Okay now I am retired and live in a van. I am going to get a male Rottweiler puppy -excellent breeder. I am going to teach my dog to be the most well behaved dog. I have phenomenal kids, I have had phenomenal students, I will have a phenomenal dog! Based on consistency, boundaries, trust. This is I believe your philosophy-? Well mannered always. This is the expectation take no prisoners! Lol loved the video!! - the best teachers are those that remember how it was to be a child. The best dog trainers know how a dog thinks! “ End result is does your dog respond to your verbal demand”
I’m going to steep myself on your videos and change my philosophy, Larry. I have a 15 month old Golden. He’s probably 95 pounds to my 130, and I can’t always control him. I always wondered, “ ok, he can sit, stay, down, come. Now what? Who cares? He’s a jerk when people come over. We can’t have people over. “. So I’m changing things up. I’ll be listening all the time! Thank you!
New to the channel but loving your videos. I've got an 11 month old American Bulldog. He's an amazing dog and partner but reactive and I realize it's because of me but still struggling to make that right. I do most of the things you seem to recommend but I do love on him any time he comes and puts his head on my leg and usually will play with him when he drops into a play bow and dances around to indicate he wants to play. I like how you describe the way the dog is thinking about that and the way to respond is maintain control but in a way that the dog still gets what he wants while also knowing whos in charge. I feel like I haven't properly shown my dog that he can trust me and that I'll take care of whatever comes our way but I'm trying and logically I feel like I'm doing the right things. He does seem to be getting better so maybe it was mostly a growth period. He's the worst in the truck and looking out the windows in the house but clearly knows I don't want him barking. What do you mean by focus on the behavior? How do we correct the bad behaviors? What are the things that you tell people to do during the first months then? I still can rarely walk by someone or a dog without some pulling and barking. It used to be insane uncontrollable but it's gotten better.
Thank you! I needed to hear this, seriously! Only half way thru this video and you have made me see what I needed to see. I just found you a few days ago and just watched several of your videos, and I will be watching many more. This one may be the most important one, the one I needed most. Again, thank you!
I have learned more from this video than I did paying for private lessons for 6 months! I have learned something from every single video of yours that Ive watched, but I think this one will turn out to be the most beneficial. I can not thank you enough for sharing your knowledge and I look forward to implementing all I’ve learned to help Maverick become the dog I know he is 💗 Stay safe
It was no coincidence that I came across this video tonight. My 11 month old Malinois/mastiff is out of control in our home. We hired a trainer that IMMEDIATELY told us to get her on a prong collar without even analyzing her. In my belief, it made her worse than she probably would’ve ever been. She’s only mellow in our home with it on now. It’s useless. I want her to be relaxed and neutral without it. I was balling in tears tonight because she last her marbles. She got really rough with me, and when I went to correct her, she snapped at me and broke some skin. If my husband and I are sitting on the couch, she barks and barks. In our backyard she’s perfect. I just want to thank you for this video. It really gave me inside on what I have to do to help us live a better life together. 💪🏻 🐶
I have 1 am.bully and 2 american staffords and I live in an appartement. Every day I go for a long walk , at least an hour, in the park . There are 2 big dogparks where they can play and run. They need to drain there energy every day to be able to relax at home. I hope this helps. Greatings from Antwerpen Belgium Europa
Larry thank you so much for all your input. I now have a small business working with a few dogs to improve their lives. My company slogan is "Shut The Fuck Up and Communicate " I often use your advice of putting a short leashbkn and not saying a word to your dog for a day. People love it when they try it. Thank you again. B
A new subscriber here and very grateful to have found your channel. I have a 4 month old poodle/retriever mix that I’m training. She’s coming along nicely, as you say it’s about behavior in the home first and then the obedience will build on that. I’m fortunate in that I retired in August and got the pup at the end of September. I’ve made her training my full time job. I’m finding a flat collar, a martingale to be the foundation tools. The e-collar is helpful on occasion to reinforce the other work. Thank you for this video and all that you share with us. Bravo!
I say this to my clients all.the.time 🙌🙌🙌 It can't be expressed enough, just how much the actual relationship and manners within the house, impact on the dog in all other areas. Train your dog....great, but if their basic manners suck and they are rude and pushy in the home, it will always limit the results in your training. Do you expect kids, when they eat out, to have table manners when these manners are not reinforced in the home, NO.....your dog needs to know house manners first and then these can be transferred outside. Great post Larry.....couldn't be more in love with the way you train dogs!!🥇
Thanks so much Larry for the clarity with no BS. Thank god i found your channel before i got my rescue dog Staffie X! His behaviour in the home and my understanding of how what i was doing and behaving affected him, made the adjustment so easy for him as i could be very clear about what was desirable and made me more confident with a human-affectionate but dog under-socialised dog who is quite big and strong but who can listen to me as i can catch his attention and he wants do the right thing with his human. Gold worth, Larry.Thank you.
Hello from a other Kristina from Darwin Australia. 74 year old grandmother have been rehabilitating/ socialising my son in law's red heeler who was just left in yard for first 2years. 💜☮️
kristina hewer, greetings from Northern California! We adopted a fearful border collie/lab. Wish I had found this trainer sooner, but better late than never.
Your story has touched me. As i understand what she went through and different senario. Itmade me so nervous withmy grandson around. He’s just 3 years and i thought every dog we met were going to go for him. It consumed me and puppy classes went to were nightmare. I know i have a ways to go yet. But its a feeling that i’m i will conquer and knowing i am not alone is means so much to me.
Great video on a vital topic. Do you have, or could you make a video on how to introduce a dog to livestock- to be peaceful around chickens, horses, sheep etc…?
Love this message! In an age where everyone is looking for quick fixes and hacks, this is so refreshing. We need more of this transparent, truthful and direct help in the industry. People do need to understand how to live with their dogs in a way that sets them up for success. They to put the time in Not ship them off the training and /or slap tools on dog and then bring them back to the same environment with no rules so absolutely nothing changes. With so much ego and marketing gimmicks in the training arena, it is nice to see a compassionate person/trainer who cares about both the dog and the owner, but is honest and pulls no punches about what needs to happen.
Thank you Larry. Thank you so much. I only follow your advice and Robert Cabrals advice and my dog is a very nice dog because of you guys. Thank you again. Don't pay mind to the haters. Pura Vida 🤙🤙🤙
I'm feeling convicted. I am totally guilty of letting my dog getting away with murder at home and expecting more outside of the home. Thank you for the wakeup call 👍
@Promedi Mavuzi No, don't starve him for a day and don't lock him up, he won't know why he's being punished, or that he is being punished. Go to the videos where he shows how to begin with your dog. I hope you and your dog do well together.
I agree ! Our last dog, Tosca ,age 16 had to be put down two years ago. Blind, deaf and couldn’t get up the stairs besides incontinence.Poor thing. She was miserable but brave. She was about 4 or 5 months old 3 rd rescued dog. After 2 years we really missed having a dog and decided to look for a breeder of Australian labradoodles. Tristan joined us last June 2019. He is adorable but fussy eater and starved himself for the first week. Our neighbour of 16 years next door also has a doodle dog so we exchanged dog food for testing until one worked for the both of us. We usually just greeted our neighbours but our relationship changed because of the dogs. Their 2 teenage boys go to school and both parents work and when I heard that their dog was shut up in the house I proposed To bring their dog over to play with Tristan for an hour and then return Beni. They love each other and cry at the same time of day wanting their play time. After 18 years the dog food , pet stores , and training had exploded. Can ‘t say I liked the new form of training although Tristan was the star. Picture perfect. But at 4 months he changed and became agressive attacking us from behind tearing our clothing. Didn’t bite us, but was violent when we took him outside ( he had an Half acre to run around in.( teething?) . We live in a rural area. Eventuality, I managed to calm him down although he kept the same behavior with my husband and I had to step in. He always came when called, up to 2 months ago. Mr.Independent! I stopped letting him free in the back yard and now he goes out on a leash. He also discovered it was fun to sneak past me at the door and laugh at me. A new game for him and wouldn’t come. All privileges are revoked. For the first 4 month he was afraid of everything. We took him into town and he shook like a leaf because of the noise of traffic . I did a fair amount of training with him besides the classes of which I am Not impressed. Tristan is our 4 th .dog. Just found your videos which has the best teaching on line and the make the most sense. It takes 2 years of constant training to teach good manners and I have made a lot of mistakes. Each dog has their own personality and quirks and one has to keep adjusting and problem solving.Larry you are so right about what goes on in the home does matter. After Tristan pulled me off my feet twice ( weight about 40 + lbs.) I had to take out on old prong collar. I don’t like them but it is the dog or me. I Do not need a broken arm at this stage in life. Oh yes, He counter surfs and stole a piece of steak which I grabbed out of his mouth. He use to sleep with his stuffed toys, now tears them apart. Packed them up and removed all except one. He also is given a fresh bone every day to satisfy the urge to chew. It also cleans his teeth. As for calling the dog, he is usually compliant but not consistent as before. It’s like a wolf pack where a lower status wolf keep challenging the leader. We are still in lockdown so I take the dog for a walk late at night when no one is on the street. Labradoodle are high energy dogs and need to run off excess energy . He always sniffs the food first before eating and waits for permission to eat. He is eating mostly raw food. Most of this training was done in the first 4 months. Now I wished I had expanded to a greater or wider degree at that time. I am thinking about an e collar for Tristan as we would like to take him to a wild area , leash free but still have control as there are other dogs. We trained Tosca to perform a down stay whenever another dog approached . Tristan is more social and would want to play with another dog. He also has a higher sense of play and teasing and tormenting .Beni just ignores him even when he body slams him for attention. Lastly, he adores our granddaughters and likes to cuddle. I play with the girls. They love pillow fights and Tristan joins in trying to catch the pillows. Very affectionate and follows me everywhere in the house. Think it’s called Velcro dogs. Larry you are correct regarding tools. A tool is just a tool. It just saves time. Thank you so much for all your videos. The best info online. The most sensible and honest info as well as practical .
I have just had a great boost from listening to you my GSD girl is a bit nervy outside but I use obedience but in the house she uses place sleeps in her own bed never gets pushy with me but what I will stop allowing her to come over and take a free cuddle great free advise
Just got a Doberman puppy, and the first week were focusing on not being an "ASS" in the home, love that message, too many dogs run riot inside their own home.
Thanks so much for this! Really appreciate your experience, wisdom, and perspective. What's so hard for most of us to understand is how to behave around dogs when not "Training" them.
Hi Larry, so glad I came across you and your content. Have an almost 2 year old Mali. But this how you live with your dog is a game changer!! Thank you sir, thank you. Still a work in progress but notice the change already in him simply by all us keeping to some simple house rules. If you have time it would be insightful to know how you blew up on Bruno when he eye balled Bear (incidentally same name of my Mali) just want to get the balance right. As there our time he growls (rumbles) at my 14 year old boy. I’ve explained that my boy needs to build a relationship with Bear and that good things come from him and not just someone that plays with Bear when Bear wants to play. But if I’m present when that happens… do I blow up and to what degree? Thank you again for your time and willingness to share your knowledge. Bless you and the family from across the pond England
Watched all of it. Might rewatch it again honestly. Larry is just oozing knowledge from the tap cuzin and I fr feel blessed to have found this channel. Aloha from Hawai'i, Larry. You are **THE** example bossman. Mahalo nui loa 🤙🏾🤙🏾
I am really.enjoying these videos. I lived with a working line GSD crossed with Timber Wolf for 18 years. I still miss Kali but she was a true handful kind of like a 90 poind cat and I discovered as she matured that ypu had to work her hard and she had the potential for insane violence if you.did not keep control. We were attacked by a chow runnimg loose. Kali trusted me and I was able to prevent a fight until the chow grabbed my thigh a really bad bite. I fell down and Kali took the chow out.
Very well put and totally agree. With every dog I learn more, just hope I don't run out of time before I get it completely right! My WG WL GSD has been a real eye opener the last 2 years. I never dreamed I'd ever have a bond with a dog like we do, but it wasn't easy. I allowed her too much freedom at the beginning, thank God she has an excellent temperament and I was able to go back and fix some things. Next puppy will be all about structure structure structure first and foremost. Thanks Larry and love your videos. If you ever give a seminar in FL I'll be front and center!
That was us- "I think it helped a little" after 21 days board & train. Your videos combined with the training he did get (ecollar), he's coming along. I train with the ecollar and w/o the ecollar-- when he came back from his Board & Train, he had learned to obey when the collar was on. Had to change that immediately.Your video saying even 10 minutes a day was extremely helpful. Watching the behavior between the two dogs from the introduction of the puppy onwards, now that the 'puppy' is 9 months old saved us I think. Will be night crated for a year, and crated when I'm gone for at least 2 years- friends really disagree, but he lives with me, and these are necessary rules for a high-energy 65 lb Bernedoodle. Good manners mean I'm not stressed/angry and reacting, he's happy, the other dog is happy, the house is happy. Thank you!
Yes, dogs can quickly become collar smart but that is why you should use a combination of collars like a flat collar for name tags. a prong collar or choke collar and an ecollar if you plan on using an ecollar. Take the ecollar off at the end of the day while keeping the others on that will still give you the opportunity to train. Leashwork came way before the invention of the ecollar.
The best canine advice I’ve found on YT! It’s funny bcz it IS NOT the dog, it’s the ppl. I can honestly say I’ve had so many dogs I can’t count, grew up in barns and they’re a big part of my life. Long story short, when I was married (30 years) I had confident, well behaved dogs (3 pits and a Boston Terrier and never a bad day…) BUT when my husband started having an affair 👀 my dogs knew b4 me. The last of that lil pack was laid to rest at 13) I got divorced and now have two GSD’s….both very young but! I’m not the same, confident (false confidence I guess bcz I didn’t realize how much I depended on my ‘’man” for that full circle, balanced home. My ex was never really involved with dogs besides hanging with them but now that I live alone, I am the one that’s different 😔 and I needed to realize this! I’m rambling but so thankful for your advice. All the best to you and yours! 🫶🏼💜🦋
Great video. Some people think that dog training about teaching your dog to do tricks and cool stuff. In reality, dog training ( and behavior) is about creating a relationship with you and your dog that enables you both to live a stress free and practical life together.
Absolutely agree with the sentiments Larry expresses here. However, some aspects of (good) behavior are "taught" ..or at the least, the dog learns them via "obedience training". Its a question of defining what "good behavior" is that might be useful for general dog owners, although I suppose this is subjective. Waiting at thresholds would be a good example of what I call "good behavior", and one that I have the dog learn through "obedience methodologies". Also, some "obedience" worked enthusiastically and with appropriate energy can help build the dog-handler relationship that is so, so important. For example, I had a friend's Malinois stay over a few weeks ago. First night the owner dropped him off 11pm, and this pup that I knew was pretty well trained was hyper, wondering where Dad had gone and in new surroundings. I worked him (just as Larry does) using "place" in my living room. 10 minutes of that and the dog was glued to my hip. He was calmer and more accepting of me and happy to settle down in the house as a result. Point being that "obedience" can be a useful vehicle to foster both a good relationship and good behavior also.
Loooove you. So glad I found this channel. My puppy always lays or sleeps at lower level than me ( on the floor or in his cot) . I had a good dog , just died at 11 . I know what having a good dog is . I want my puppy to become the same. 😇 Don’t worry about video getting long, make them as long as you want I’ll listen every word 👍
Thank you so much for this video. I cannot believe how helpful this was. I commented with a question earlier but I had to delete it because I finally get it! Awesome video! Thanks for all that you do!
Love this video! So real and basic but things I never thought. I have always allowed my dogs freedom thinking if they did things with me they were good. What different dogs when I started to take over what was done and when. Still working each day. Wish I had discovered this guy sooner!!!
This video is gold... Thank you so much for this... My family will gather and watch this video. Thank you for imparting you knowledge. You are by far the best dog trainer I've watched.
This video was screaming at me! I needed this. I'm one of those crappy dog owners who doesn't give my dogs direction. We have a 10 yr old German Shepherd who is great not because of my husband and I she just is a good dog. Then we had a small stray show up 7 years ago. He is a westie mix. Well we spoiled him rotten which never really caused any issues till we added a 3rd dog. He is a Jack Russell and now we have issues. They need bounders and to know we are the leaders not them. I told my husband please watch this. We both need to change our behaviors and start treating them like dogs! Thank you so much!
Excellent video...makes total sense Larry. We are picking up our german shepherd puppy in 2 weeks. She will be 9 weeks old. Do you have a video specifically explaining the how to's on training a puppy good indoor behavior? Thank you!
Your videos and guidance are outstanding!!! Keep it up!!! Thank you for your commitment to dogs and educating the public on the environmental conditions that make a difference! I really appreciate you!
About two years ago, I would not have understood this video. Today, I agree with you bc we have learned how wrong we've been doing things. We have two dogs that bark and fight each other. It has been stressful!!
Thank you for this great video. Do you have another video that gives more specifics about how to create the correct behavior in the house? You gave some examples like don’t step over the dog, ask them to move. Don’t let them come and demand attention from you. But I would like more examples so that I could do a better job with the behavior part. Thank you so much.
I could listen all day and I think what you are charging is very fair for what you offer. I'm going to be using your techniques with inside the home to better shape both of my dogs so they can exist together.
Thank you for posting this. I've heard you mention it in your other videos but after listening to this one it clicked. I love watching your videos and I just wish I was closer so I could work with you personally.
My man.....Loved this content, so true about what you said dogs are way spoiled with too much attention in this country, we are not this way with our dogs. I feel like I have so much in common with your ideals on dogs. We had a house full for Thanksgiving and the complements we got on our dogs was so rewarding and to see how well behaved our dogs were with all that were here...Thanks brother!!! 👍👊🇺🇸
I just want to tell you Larry after watching this video you did a great job it’s all about the principle of the situation I’m watching all your videos I just took in a dog on a rescue from a neighbor down the street that neglected this dog it’s a half St. Bernard and a half boxer mix she is a female and I’m looking at all your videos as a mentor I think you do a phenomenal job and I can’t say enough good things about your videos inspiration motivation commitment and discipline to the highest level continue the good work sincerely John Ellison!
We have a presa and ALL YOUR ADVICE is spot on!! I think this is great advice for any dog owner *especially* large breeds where we cant afford any leniency for their own well-being. The biggest problem we notice with dogs we meet is actually the owners. I cant count the number of times my balanced mild presa pup has been snaped at by dogs whose owners then pet them and tell them “its ok”. Then it all makes sense. I can only imagine how they are treated at home and how much stress and confusion it causes the poor dogs. Thank you for sharing and your passion to educate. I can tell you that it does make a difference!
I started following about a month ago and love your dog training videos. So knowledgeable and informative and the your techniques are awesome!!!!!! I have been going through a lot of your videos and started teaching my dog Sarge new things that I have seen on here..
I use ecollar for 3 reasons. We are close to a busy road. And food(random burger on the street). And use beep cause I hate yelling. Hero is very very good dog. He will get better. Great video
Hi Larry, I have a dog shes a Shar-Pei Nina, and she currently lives with my mum, because i have moved in with my partner who has a jack Russel Beth, they do not like each other at all, we have been on walks together and its fiery with both at first then we can quickly correct them, I want to move Nina in with us but were both scared that there will be a dog fight, they have both had history with dog fights which adds to the fear. We sent them to a 2 week board and train and we were so disappointed with it no training come from it, they didnt even put them together for any training saying that it wouldn't be right to do they did train with other dogs and they were both fine and the company wont give the money back, even though they did not deliver what's we asked off them which was to get them comfortable with each other. I listened to your live regarding crating the 2 in the same room, and taking one out to train and the put her back then bring out the other, desensitizing them do you think this would work for us, i desperately want Nina in our home!! We are constantly working with both dogs on there behaviours everyday please help
Hey Larry, been watching your videos for a couple of years, i have 3 dogs a Bullmastiff and 2 Boerboels. Used your advice years ago about the benefits of well behaved dogs as opposed to well trained dogs, works wonders. Got my dogs out every morning on a public beach with tons of other dogs all being walked, my dogs stick to me, watch me , never interfere with the other dogs and are all off leash with minimum obedience training. Thank You from South Africa.
Hey Larry, Man I appreciate your videos and your views on obedience vs well behaved dogs; they are spot on. Also respect your honesty about your rates for family and friends...why not support your family or friend when they train like you do. Keep it up and thanks for sharing.
Firstly. As always Larry, love your videos. My only issue is I'm left really in the dark. I feel like I've done everything I could by intuiting what boundaries and limits so shape the dogs behaviour as a photo looks like. Crate time, no going through doors first, not eating until i give a command. But without videos or examples of what daily life with a young dog looks like in the home (my boy is 10months) it just feels like guess work. For example, when you say you blew up or exploded on Bruno for giving a bad glance to Bear, whta does that actually mean? A raised voice, shouting, a physical correction. I have no idea the spectrum of responses by which to gauge my own. Between hearing positive people saying don't angrily say the dogs name I don't know how to set boundaries. I understand it may she difficult but learning, or really thinking hard of how to communicate what actually needs to be done would be so helpful to us novice dog owners really trying our best but falling back on our limited interpretation.
Watch more. Stonnie Dennis & Zak George have a lot of puppy stuff. Not sure if this is ok Larry but I figure ..the more the better. Every little bit helps & surely the aim is well mannered , happy dogs & owners. 💜☮️
@@kristinahewer6982 Stay away from trainers like Zak George, his 100% positive only training is not a good method of training. Stick with balanced trainers like Larry or Robert Cabral.
Robert Cabral's channel's pretty good too. 10 months is the time you need to be patient and consistent. Consistency is the most important thing. Keep it simple, keep it consistent.
Wow....this is amazing, thanks a lot Larry... This gave me new prespective on dog training...please do more long talks like this,it has so much info. It's amazing
Can you make a video and include what changes should be made in the home, including the small little things? I think that video would be really helpful. Thanks
@@vikkiwilson5069 -he’s awesome and now 7 years old. Thank you for asking.
Absolutely agree!!!
I appreciate all your videos!!! You are a great trainer for people and dogs of course Dogs!!
I love it when my trainers harp on me about certain things if I'm not doing it right. Keep correcting me till I'm on point, I'm not offended, I'm grateful and it's what I'm paying for lol
I'm going to need you to write a book on all this knowledge Mr. Krohn. The world needs it.
I know this is an old comment but I second a book 📖

Well done aaron 🙌
Good for you ! It's such a great feeling when you finally make some progress.
Thank you for making these videos Larry!
Thank you Larry for this video. This is beneficial information related to dog behavior. Great videos and I have prescribed.
You ad a nice personal touch to your videos, you really have that gift to reach someone with your message.
Amazingly true! Thanks for level setting!
Thank you!
thank you for this perspective...
Wonderful and to the point video. Thank you!
I can't even express to you how much you helped me and cleared my whole head with this video... Thank you so, so much.
ok I love this guy
Larry thank you so much for all your input. I now have a small business working with a few dogs to improve their lives.
My company slogan is
"Shut The Fuck Up and Communicate "
I often use your advice of putting a short leashbkn and not saying a word to your dog for a day.
Bravo!
love it learning alot from you Larry thank you
I say this to my clients all.the.time 🙌🙌🙌 It can't be expressed enough, just how much the actual relationship and manners within the house, impact on the dog in all other areas.
Me too. In fact most of the time the original "problem" solves itself and never even needs to be directly addressed.
Larry, YOU ARE AWESOME !!
This is great, thank you! Something I've been slowly learning on my own, but to hear you spell it really clarified what and why.

Thank you so much…..
I'm feeling convicted. I am totally guilty of letting my dog getting away with murder at home and expecting more outside of the home. Thank you for the wakeup call 👍
Establish the rules first, them relax them as the dog can handle it.
@Promedi Mavuzi No, don't starve him for a day and don't lock him up, he won't know why he's being punished, or that he is being punished. Go to the videos where he shows how to begin with your dog. I hope you and your dog do well together.
beckers091 whoa wait- wtf happened here dude-
Good information which I will use
Thanks Larry
Great advice
Mr Krohn knows his stuff when it comes down to dog behaviours.
Watched all of it. Might rewatch it again honestly.

This was very useful and eye-opening. Makes a lot of sense to me and definitely the video that I didn't know I needed.
This video was a total game changer for me and my dog. Thank you Larry for your content on UA-cam, that helps me a lot!
Best wishes from Germany
Loooove you. So glad I found this channel. My puppy always lays or sleeps at lower level than me ( on the floor or in his cot) .
I had a good dog , just died at 11 . I know what having a good dog is . I want my puppy to become the same. 😇
Don’t worry about video getting long, make them as long as you want I’ll listen every word 👍
Thank you!
I love how straight forward and real you are! Thank you for all your words of wisdom!
Well said man! Behaviour first!
Your videos and guidance are outstanding!!! Keep it up!!! Thank you for your commitment to dogs and educating the public on the environmental conditions that make a difference! I really appreciate you!
Thanks Larry! So needed this today!
You're the man! Thanks for these kinds of videos! Please do more of them, or even better a book! Keep it up!
One of your best videos, thanks.
Great video and channel Thx!
thank u larry! inside my house has improved so much with my 4 dogs! keep up the awesome job!! FYI- I ordered ur book
To many dog trainers out there... But you make sense... I just wish you were in the UK Lol
Couldn't agree more. Just got to have structure inside the house. Way to much freedom given to pups and juvenile. Great topic Larry : ) Thank you .
Thank you Larry for imparting to us here your knowledge and advice great 👍🏻 vid too
Hey Larry, been watching your videos for a couple of years, i have 3 dogs a Bullmastiff and 2 Boerboels.
Hey Larry,
Man I appreciate your videos and your views on obedience vs well behaved dogs; they are spot on.
I do agree that" blew up on Bruno needed explaining. 💜☮️
I agree, I'm novice and stuck with so many opinions and options to do/use.
I too am wondering what the 'blow up' looks like????
@@kristinahewer6982 Stay away from trainers like Zak George, his 100% positive only training is not a good method of training. Stick with balanced trainers like Larry or Robert Cabral.
Robert Cabral's channel's pretty good too. 10 months is the time you need to be patient and consistent. Consistency is the most important thing. Keep it simple, keep it consistent.
So good.
Wow....this is amazing,thanks a lot Larry...
This gave me new prespective on dog training...please do more long talks like this,it has so much info.
It's amazing
Needed this today
Can you make a video and include what changes should be made in the home, including the small little things? I think that video would be really helpful. Thanks
I was making small mistakes in home thanks for all the videos love your way of work with dogs
Like your way of thinking more and more. Maybe i can’t be exactly like that but I got a lot of inputs. Thank you! 😊
Nailed it !!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Outstanding. Period. This one is a life changing video.
