We just got a rotti pup and he is a biter. He's a lover too, but boy does he get in moods where he really growls and bites at my wife's ankles and our kids. We have learned more from this video, and a few others than anything else we've read online, watched online, etc for the past four days. Our pup is almost 8 weeks old. We are definitely going with the crate training asap. Larry, I love your straightforward mentality. It's refreshing!
We have a one year old havanese dog. When he was a puppy,i used all your advices about potty training and he learned it in less then a week(he had only one accident in a house) so I say,thank you for your "words off wisdom",for me they mean allot and there is always something to learn from you. Agreed! My little dobie has been home for 7 days and he is 9 weeks now today. Only had a few accidents which were all my fault because I didnt hear my alarm or I mistaked whining in crate as wanting to get out but he actually has to go potty. Now he is solid. The fact that he said in this video that he doesnt give a command when Mango was at the soccer field, I was making mistake here. We have a pet zone here and other people and what he will do is follow and not listen to me, but now I'm not gonna say anything I'm just gonna let him be a puppy and follow closely. Thanks Larry

I watch your videos over and over again and I always pick up some new tidbits. They help me for my own opinions on what I feel will work with my situation and then table other suggestions that you offer for another day or another dog. It blows my mind and irritates the hell out of me that people will sit there and write comments about a video like yours claiming that you don't know what you're talking about, or your advice is wrong, but they fail to invest any time out of their lives to give me the other side of the fence so I can form an opinion and figure out what will work for me and my dogs. And the fact that you have so many videos and so much content out there for free is invaluable to somebody like me who just can't afford to go to structured dog classes and when I find myself, lile now, needing to undo bad habits, from a work-at-home lifestyle that seems like it should have been really easy to invest time in my puppy who's not sucking monster turned out to be just the opposite that I feel like I kept putting him in front of the TV like a little kid to keep them quiet so that I could work and now I'm dealing with the repercussions of trying to undo bad habits that I allowed to be created which I know is on me not him. Thank you Larry, I will continue to watch every video you put out, I subscribed to your channel I like every video I watch and if it seems relevant to a friend of mine who's having a problem or could find you thought of watching your video I pass it along, because I know every dog is different situations are different even what part of the country you're living in create its own challenges like I experience this past winter dealing with one of the coldest purses snowiest Winters in my neighborhood wear it was hard to take my puppy out to go to the bathroom because he couldn't walk in the weather and now I have bad habits so again thank you for everything you're sharing with people like me so that I can undo bad habits that I'm living with right now.

Amen brother, perfectly put. I cannot stand using the term socialization because it's not the same for dogs as it is for humans. I'm going to start using the term exposure in place of socialization as that word really portrays the meaning behind what we want people to do with their puppies. You're right, if they are watching you they are fans and they are looking to learn something. There is no room in this business for egos or people guarding information as we all have learned from someone else who freely gave their advice or charged a small fee for their time. We all have to eat.
I get my GSP puppy next week. Love your car chats...very, very informative! I've been adopting adult dogs for the past 25 years, the puppy refreshers are extremely helpful! The difference this time is that in a month, when pup is 12 weeks old we'll be moving into my converted ambulance and hitting the road! Talk about exposure 🤗 Thank you Larry!! Sadly my adult pointer died last month, I was planning on him being a mentor dog, but we'll be okay.

I have trained all my rotties (over 40 years) this EXACT away. Incredible. I have raised many GREAT well behaved Rottweilers. I love love love the breed. I’m so happy to hear all this. Family used to think I was nuts but I want to create a well balanced dog. Thanks for the video!!! I have a new male coming in a few months and it’s been 14 years since I’ve raised a pup (my last male lived to be 13). I can’t wait to get going on a new little man. I can take my dogs anywhere without issues because I HAVE put so much damn time into them being healthy, well balanced, well exposed and well behaved pups and young dogs.

I am hoping to incorporate all this valuable infrmation into my American Bully puppy. Although he is now just 6 months old, I know I started later then I should have, but I read where they siad not to try training beefore 6 months old , I am hoping I can turn around all the things I need to fix. Larry, really appreciate your no nonsense communicative approach. I'm considering bringing home a lab puppy next month (currently have a 7 year old blue nose pit named Kobe). Your video confirmed that we potty trained & crate trained Kobe correctly with the taxi method. If we get the puppy we will incorporate your method of doing most of the activities outdoors in my backyard to wear her out. The rest of your video was very enlightening regarding exposing a puppy early on to add many things as possible.
Thank you for your Expertise in Dog training and willingness to share it. My wife and I tend to love the dogs too much and not concentrate enough on the puppy training. We are now learning that a bit of tough love in the beginning. "Crate training" Exposure. Etc. Pays off. Plus we've had a lot of rescue dogs. A 9 week old Shepherd/Colie mix 7 days ago. Lol. That paying good $ for a well breed dog is worth the investment. A Pure breed Shepherd will be coming in the spring. Those that make bad comment don't know. Which is most of the dog owners. Hi Larry. We have a Labradoodle now 12 months old. Just found your videos last month and really regret not finding you when we brought him home. This is our fourth dog and the training has changed. Can’t say I was fond of the new method so I mixed in some of the previous training. Tristan was outstanding until 4 months old. He began biting and ripping our clothes for a couple of months ( teething), until I got him under control with a leash.He alway came running when called until 3 months ago. I realized I gave him too much freedom in our fenced half acre and had to put him back on a leash whenever in the yard unless playing ball with him. He has a friend next door and they play together almost every day. Best of friends! There are a couple of minor things to keep working on and find your videos extremely helpful. Possessive with the ball and slipping out the door and not coming when called that needs to be addressed. I get the feeling he is laughing at us, the little devil as he thinks it’s a game. That is why I think we need to try the e- collar. Am trying to understand how one should use it as timing seems to be very important .All our previous dogs lived happy long lives from 13-16 years old and were rescue or abandoned dogs. Tristan is an Australian labradoodle at 45 lbs. Very affectionate and loving and follows me everywhere.Oh yes, he whimpered the first night in his crate as he slept beside me and that was it. Lucky!

Watched this video before we got our Showline GSD. Beautiful dog, well bred dog...everything Larry said in this video is spot on. Now he’s 14 1/2 months and what a love he is. He’s traveled perfectly cross country in my Yukon several times. Will stay in the backseat for HOURS. We went to US Sieger show and while we didn’t show him, we went/camped with a family and their 2 VA males. Aggressive type males. Without our pups foundation it would hsve been a train wreck. He’s 80 lbs of all male...and will stay contently in a canvas crate!!! He’s a high drive male to boot! Crate train, expose, be consistent. It’s work but it’s rewarding! Next pup coming home in 5 weeks. Thanks Larry !!!and I’m from Nashville. Sounds like Percy Warner or Radnor Lake😬 I was the webmaster for TN State Parks for 10 years. I’m biased.
@sweetiepie565 I understand. I kept my dogs crate in my bedroom at night when he was very young. Potty training was hard. But it works if you stay on it. I followed the video.
Watched this and immediately started utilizing these tips and in 2 days have noticed improvement in potty training my 10 month old bulldog (we just got her in June)
Thank you for the awesome video! This is pretty much what I did with the last puppy I raised except that I made the mistake of allowing idiots to come up to her and do that "OMG, PUPPY!!!" thing. That mistake honestly ruined my puppy because she learned right away to go nuts and beg for that reaction with every human she saw. At that point she didn't care what I said or did, she wanted that "fix" of people oooing and awwing over her. Had I not done that she probably would have been a great dog. But instead I ended up rehoming her to a family who wanted a dog like that. They got a dog with over 300 hours of obedience training who adored everyone. And I had no dog. She was a Boxer mixed with probably Bernese Mountain Dog. If I ever get a dog again it will be a Rottweiler who I will again obedience train well and expose to everything. But I will NEVER allow anyone to do the, "OMG, PUPPY!!!!!" BS again. I'll have to allow a Rottweiler pup to be pet by strangers some, but never like that again. I want my dog focused on me and calm. Not going berzerk over every idiot they see. Like you say, "They don't need dog friends." They should be focused on you. I say, they don't need to be friends with all the people either. Polite, yes. But they do NOT need to interact with everyone. And they don't get to go berzerk with anyone. I got a dog for ME. Not for the neighbors or all the people we saw when we were out. I should have been more firm with the idiot people. Rather than expecting my dog to react calmly to that as a pup. If I ever get a dog again I will not make that mistake again.
We did a lot of similar things with our boxer mix when she was little. She never once had an accident in the crate because I was OCD about getting her out to pee every 2 hours for a couple weeks then I extended it by 30 minutes weekly. We haven't had any potty training issues at all since she was 14 weeks old. She's now almost 2 years old. I appreciate the points you made about the hiking trails, we took our then 15 month old dog on a camping trip and hit the hiking trails for days. She pulled me to every dog and even almost pulled me down when we went down a steep hill. I was extremely frustrated at the time. I will try your methods the next time we go.

This video just answered all of my questions i thought i was doing somethings wrong but i see im already following 60%of your rules. First time video watcher. Got a new Lab/pitmix 50%/50% male. He was removed from mama too early in my opinion. He was born Nov 18th 2019. I have 4 other dogs I've been working with 2 who have major behavior issues and don't listen at all. I plan to watch more of your videos to learn the proper way to correct them. Im a 5 dog household at the moment. I love animals more than ppl most days 😁. Your time and information is valuable to me thank you again.
I have a American Bulldog/GSP mix she is well basic trained she is potty trained leash trained and crate trained as well as does not bark unless threats or asked 2. But 1 problem i have with her is that no matter how much walking running playing jogging we do her energy levels never seem to fade she still paces back and forth in the living room. She isnt understanding that inside means settle down. Please help any tips would be nice. Thanks a billion
Glad to hear your common sense views. Here are some comments: I learned on day 1 with my GSD (8 weeks old), not to feed in the house. She always has to go #2 after a few bites. You are also right about the crate--we had been playing outside for 2 hours, when I thought it was ok to let her walk around the house for a few minutes--she immediately squatted and peed on the carpet! That was the one and only accident in the house. I also learned never to believe anyone who says that their dog is "friendly"--sure, they are friendly and darling with their people and when alone in their own home, but they can turn vicious in a heartbeat at the sight of another dog or puppy, and I do mean vicious. Never, ever take your dog to a friend's house, no matter what assurances you get. You are also correct about people--unbelievably dumb. I met a total stranger at a nature park who immediately bent down to stick her fingers into my dog's ears and mouth, and then told me she was training the dog to get used to it. Can you believe? And so many people will try to tell you what to do or how to train your dog, even when the dog is behaving very nicely right in front of them, walking on a loose leash and sitting when told--where do these people think the dog learned how to behave so well? If you meet a dog and need something to say, then talk about your own dog, compare notes, ask questions, or talk about the weather, but don't bore somebody with advice if no one asked for it.

I'm trying, but struggling with pulling and my lab/ golden pulling. I tried to work while he was younger and he got a bacteria skin infarction and it through a curve. He is now 8 months. I've watched your pulling video. Helpful, yet at the park he is so excited. Would you do a video to encourage how to continue work with him? At this point he would be that dog pulling me on the hike in Nashville.

I am sending this out to EVERY SINGLE PERSON who contacts me about potty training. I truly feel like because you are in law enforcement and have so much passion for training dogs that the way you talk gets through to people WAY better than the way this old lady talks to them!!!! I had a guy contact me last week about training his eight week old puppy. I offered to send him my PDF on raising pups and offered the link to one of my talking videos on raising and training pups. I also suggested getting the Monks of New Skeet's book on the Art Of Raising A puppy. He was OUTRAGED! He said that he did not have the "bandwidth" to watch videos or read PDFs. He wanted me to drive over to his house and say all the same stuff. I told him that if he did not have the "bandwidth" to read a PDF and watch a video to PLEASE rehome that poor puppy ASAP!!! (Did he want me to drive over there, screw off the top of his head and pour some magic "knowledge" into his brain?????) Like you, I also offer all my info on this subject for free because it seems unethical to charge money for something so basic. I love how you hammer home that if you get a puppy, expect to not get so much sleep! Raising a puppy is about being present and focusing on the here and now--not going about your business on auto pilot like we all tend to do. The hardest thing about changing our habits is REMEMBERING to do it differently the next time! Thank you for doing this video Larry! No matter how many times we talk about this, there will always be more new puppy owners coming along who are CERTAIN that they do not need to use the old, time tested ways of raising a puppy. There is no app to buy. There is no virtual reality bullshit that can train a puppy for you. You have to unplug and be real.
I'm glad you says something about stop watering your puppy after a certain time... The one thing I absolutely will always disagree with is leaving water in a crate for a puppy. I've seen some dog trainers insist on learning water with your puppy 24/7 even though the night and it made me sad inside.

Larry great video but a lot of people don’t have yards at all they live in apartments and then they are told not to bring their puppies out of the grass where other dogs go to the bathroom until they have all their shots. How the puppies get a lot of stimulation and exposure when you can’t bring them out until they have all their shots?
Larry I'm the same ,totally on the pup. I don't even bother getting undressed so I can pick pup up and get them out on the grass. Agreed ,to much freedom causes problems.I also agree with exposure,great word Larry. Great advice. Thanks : ) Note, Leads are necessary with Pica issues though .
Thanks this is excellent. Question: if you live in an urban area how do you introduce your puppy to everything safely before they have their second round of shots? I assume after the second round of shots at 10 weeks you are ok to let them get down on the ground and play outside. Thx. !
There's also no problem for a dog to live outside in the cool and warmth of life, and have a deep active beautiful relationship. All my Dogs lived outside, and you eliminate 90 percent of issues. Fully agree with the term and process of exposure. In my experience, I prefer to bond with with puppy for three to four months until full exposure: natural control. I've noticed how rude people are when they disagree. Larry Krohn is giving free information, because of his great love for the canine and people. Even if we have a difference of opinion. We can express ourselves with class and dignity.
I found your channel through will at Fenrir Canine. I like your style no BS. Our 9 year old boxer was the midst fabulous dog listened to our every word and could be walked off leash easily. It's been sometime now without a puppy and We are preparing to get a Cane Corso. Like to hear your term exposure over socialization. Relearning a lot from you. Happy Retirement !

I love you stuff Larry. I got a 2 1/2 hound mix and he is huge. Anyway ! He is crated now during the night for about 2 months and it had gotten us great results. Now my question is. We are at work for 8-10 hours 3 days a week and he does not do anything we don't want besides maybe jumping on the sofa which we control by leaving s chair on the sofa. He also lives with two little cats and never had any problems. He is a wonderful dog. My question is. How long with appropriate training of course would be too long for the dog to be crated while we are at work?
Do you simply tell people to stop as they approach? How do you prevent others from trying to allow a leash greeting? Thank you for your info, you’re a blessing!!
my 13 year old lab was a real help when it came to helping me train my now 3 year old besenji mix. he hated the crate though but once he was fully trained he rarely needed it. with my pup i would have him observe my dog from far away greeting dogs that we already know since she is well socialized and knew how to properly greet dogs. as young as 8 weeks old i would put my pup in a puppy pouch with a leash on him while i walked my labrador incase he needed to go potty and carried treats for good behaviors'. I would also bring him to stores that allowed dogs with my lab ofc and thats how he learned to not sniff things in stores and to sit or lay down in line.
This was very helpful! I'm just wondering what time in the morning you go out for the first time so that they can use the bathroom. My puppy seems to wake up super early

bridgettelampkin any advice!? I just got my 7 week old Doberman (kiwah). She’s been having accidents. I tried the pads but they’re no help. I haven’t taken her out cause she hasn’t got her shots. She’s getting them this weekend but I’m scared of taking her out considering what vets say, “don’t take em out til their shots are done.”
Jay Tru hi there we had a few accidents but the key is every opportunity take her outside. Soon as she eats drink water outside with them and watch her potty. Typically accidents happen We they are unsupervised. So just like head keep them in sight. They require a lot of attention but great dogs. You got this 😁

Watching your videos, all your working dogs with all their energy, we were all braced for our St. Bernewfie. He's so lazy. We're working on the training but he's so cuddly and nappy. We'll go easy on training (2 times a day) to give him a chance to recover from the newness.

I took my Rotty in to get spayed this morning. And she was well mannered. When I dropped her off. She needed a muzzle last time. I rescued her a few months ago after having to put down my AMSTAFF. And have been working on her fear aggression on walks. Just trying to keep her mellow. And allow her to adjust her new home. But we had a rough start. And I got nipped a few times for my lack of knowledge. I'll be honest, I put her back on Craig's list one morning. I spent three hours (3-5am) early one morning, with tears in my eyes, writing up the three paragraph post. That morning a nice lady who runs a Rottweiler rescue called about the ad. We talked for a long time about the breed. I almost gave her my dog. Thinking I was beat and couldn't handle her. But I couldn't, I wouldn't, and I didn't. Zoey is coming along well now, and is happy. The rescue organization is funding her spay. And I don't feel so lost anymore. I found you here on YT Larry. You've taken the time and put in the work to help guys like me. And a good dog talk is always greatly welcomed here. You're a mentor of mine Larry. I just wanted you to know that. Zoey is two years old now. And I still enjoyed this talk about puppies thoroughly! Peace brother..

Agreed! My little dobie has been home for 7 days and he is 9 weeks now today. Only had a few accidents which were all my fault because I didnt hear my alarm or I mistaked whining in crate as wanting to get out but he actually has to go potty. Now he is solid. The fact that he said in this video that he doesnt give a command when Mango was at the soccer field, I was making mistake here. We have a pet zone here and other people and what he will do is follow and not listen to me, but now I'm not gonna say anything I'm just gonna let him be a puppy and follow closely. Thanks Larry

I watch your videos over and over again and I always pick up some new tidbits. They help me for my own opinions on what I feel will work with my situation and then table other suggestions that you offer for another day or another dog. It blows my mind and irritates the hell out of me that people will sit there and write comments about a video like yours claiming that you don't know what you're talking about, or your advice is wrong, but they fail to invest any time out of their lives to give me the other side of the fence so I can form an opinion and figure out what will work for me and my dogs. And the fact that you have so many videos and so much content out there for free is invaluable to somebody like me who just can't afford to go to structured dog classes and when I find myself, lile now, needing to undo bad habits, from a work-at-home lifestyle that seems like it should have been really easy to invest time in my puppy who's not sucking monster turned out to be just the opposite that I feel like I kept putting him in front of the TV like a little kid to keep them quiet so that I could work and now I'm dealing with the repercussions of trying to undo bad habits that I allowed to be created which I know is on me not him. Thank you Larry, I will continue to watch every video you put out, I subscribed to your channel I like every video I watch and if it seems relevant to a friend of mine who's having a problem or could find you thought of watching your video I pass it along, because I know every dog is different situations are different even what part of the country you're living in create its own challenges like I experience this past winter dealing with one of the coldest purses snowiest Winters in my neighborhood wear it was hard to take my puppy out to go to the bathroom because he couldn't walk in the weather and now I have bad habits so again thank you for everything you're sharing with people like me so that I can undo bad habits that I'm living with right now.

Amen brother, perfectly put. I cannot stand using the term socialization because it's not the same for dogs as it is for humans. I'm going to start using the term exposure in place of socialization as that word really portrays the meaning behind what we want people to do with their puppies. You're right, if they are watching you they are fans and they are looking to learn something. There is no room in this business for egos or people guarding information as we all have learned from someone else who freely gave their advice or charged a small fee for their time. We all have to eat.

I have trained all my rotties (over 40 years) this EXACT away. Incredible. I have raised many GREAT well behaved Rottweilers. I love love love the breed. I’m so happy to hear all this. I have a new male coming in a few months and it’s been 14 years since I’ve raised a pup (my last male lived to be 13). I can’t wait to get going on a new little man. I can take my dogs anywhere without issues because I HAVE put so much damn time into them being healthy, well balanced, well exposed and well behaved pups and young dogs.

Your video confirmed that we potty trained & crate trained Kobe correctly with the taxi method. If we get the puppy we will incorporate your method of doing most of the activities outdoors in my backyard to wear her out.

Thank you for your Expertise in Dog training and willingness to share it. My wife and I tend to love the dogs too much and not concentrate enough on the puppy training. We are now learning that a bit of tough love in the beginning. "Crate training" Exposure. Etc. Pays off. Plus we've had a lot of rescue dogs. A 9 week old Shepherd/Colie mix 7 days ago. Lol. That paying good $ for a well breed dog is worth the investment. A Pure breed Shepherd will be coming in the spring. Those that make bad comment don't know. Which is most of the dog owners. Hi Larry. We have a Labradoodle now 12 months old. Just found your videos last month and really regret not finding you when we brought him home. This is our fourth dog and the training has changed. Can’t say I was fond of the new method so I mixed in some of the previous training. Tristan was outstanding until 4 months old. He began biting and ripping our clothes for a couple of months ( teething), until I got him under control with a leash.He alway came running when called until 3 months ago. I realized I gave him too much freedom in our fenced half acre and had to put him back on a leash whenever in the yard unless playing ball with him. He has a friend next door and they play together almost every day. Best of friends! There are a couple of minor things to keep working on and find your videos extremely helpful. Possessive with the ball and slipping out the door and not coming when called that needs to be addressed. I get the feeling he is laughing at us, the little devil as he thinks it’s a game. That is why I think we need to try the e- collar. Am trying to understand how one should use it as timing seems to be very important .All our previous dogs lived happy long lives from 13-16 years old and were rescue or abandoned dogs. Tristan is an Australian labradoodle at 45 lbs. Very affectionate and loving and follows me everywhere.Oh yes, he whimpered the first night in his crate as he slept beside me and that was it. Lucky!

Watched this video before we got our Showline GSD. Beautiful dog, well bred dog...everything Larry said in this video is spot on. Now he’s 14 1/2 months and what a love he is. He’s traveled perfectly cross country in my Yukon several times. Will stay in the backseat for HOURS. We went to US Sieger show and while we didn’t show him, we went/camped with a family and their 2 VA males. Aggressive type males. Without our pups foundation it would hsve been a train wreck. He’s 80 lbs of all male...and will stay contently in a canvas crate!!! He’s a high drive male to boot! Crate train, expose, be consistent. It’s work but it’s rewarding! Next pup coming home in 5 weeks. Thanks Larry !!!and I’m from Nashville. Sounds like Percy Warner or Radnor Lake😬 I was the webmaster for TN State Parks for 10 years. I’m biased.

Watched this and immediately started utilizing these tips and in 2 days have noticed improvement in potty training my 10 month old bulldog (we just got her in June)
Thank you for the awesome video! This is pretty much what I did with the last puppy I raised except that I made the mistake of allowing idiots to come up to her and do that "OMG, PUPPY!!!" thing.
That mistake honestly ruined my puppy because she learned right away to go nuts and beg for that reaction with every human she saw. At that point she didn't care what I said or did, she wanted that "fix" of people oooing and awwing over her.
Had I not done that she probably would have been a great dog. But instead I ended up rehoming her to a family who wanted a dog like that. They got a dog with over 300 hours of obedience training who adored everyone. And I had no dog.
She was a Boxer mixed with probably Bernese Mountain Dog.
If I ever get a dog again it will be a Rottweiler who I will again obedience train well and expose to everything. But I will NEVER allow anyone to do the, "OMG, PUPPY!!!!!" BS again. I'll have to allow a Rottweiler pup to be pet by strangers some, but never like that again. I want my dog focused on me and calm. Not going berzerk over every idiot they see.
Like you say, "They don't need dog friends." They should be focused on you.
I say, they don't need to be friends with all the people either. Polite, yes. But they do NOT need to interact with everyone. And they don't get to go berzerk with anyone.
I got a dog for ME. Not for the neighbors or all the people we saw when we were out.
I should have been more firm with the idiot people. Rather than expecting my dog to react calmly to that as a pup.
If I ever get a dog again I will not make that mistake again.
We did a lot of similar things with our boxer mix when she was little. She never once had an accident in the crate because I was OCD about getting her out to pee every 2 hours for a couple weeks then I extended it by 30 minutes weekly. We haven't had any potty training issues at all since she was 14 weeks old. She's now almost 2 years old. I appreciate the points you made about the hiking trails, we took our then 15 month old dog on a camping trip and hit the hiking trails for days. She pulled me to every dog and even almost pulled me down when we went down a steep hill. I was extremely frustrated at the time. I will try your methods the next time we go.

This video just answered all of my questions i thought i was doing somethings wrong but i see im already following 60%of your rules. First time video watcher. Got a new Lab/pitmix 50%/50% male. He was removed from mama too early in my opinion. He was born Nov 18th 2019. I have 4 other dogs I've been working with 2 who have major behavior issues and don't listen at all. I have a American Bulldog/GSP mix she is well basic trained she is potty trained leash trained and crate trained as well as does not bark unless threats or asked 2. But 1 problem i have with her is that no matter how much walking running playing jogging we do her energy levels never seem to fade she still paces back and forth in the living room. She isnt understanding that inside means settle down. Please help any tips would be nice. Thanks a billion

Glad to hear your common sense views. Here are some comments: I learned on day 1 with my GSD (8 weeks old), not to feed in the house. She always has to go #2 after a few bites. You are also right about the crate--we had been playing outside for 2 hours, when I thought it was ok to let her walk around the house for a few minutes--she immediately squatted and peed on the carpet! That was the one and only accident in the house. I also learned never to believe anyone who says that their dog is "friendly"--sure, they are friendly and darling with their people and when alone in their own home, but they can turn vicious in a heartbeat at the sight of another dog or puppy, and I do mean vicious. Never, ever take your dog to a friend's house, no matter what assurances you get. You are also correct about people--unbelievably dumb. I met a total stranger at a nature park who immediately bent down to stick her fingers into my dog's ears and mouth, and then told me she was training the dog to get used to it. Can you believe? And so many people will try to tell you what to do or how to train your dog, even when the dog is behaving very nicely right in front of them, walking on a loose leash and sitting when told--where do these people think the dog learned how to behave so well? If you meet a dog and need something to say, then talk about your own dog, compare notes, ask questions, or talk about the weather, but don't bore somebody with advice if no one asked for it.

I'm trying, but struggling with pulling and my lab/ golden pulling. I tried to work while he was younger and he got a bacteria skin infarction and it through a curve. He is now 8 months. I've watched your pulling video. Helpful, yet at the park he is so excited. Would you do a video to encourage how to continue work with him? At this point he would be that dog pulling me on the hike in Nashville.

I am sending this out to EVERY SINGLE PERSON who contacts me about potty training. I truly feel like because you are in law enforcement and have so much passion for training dogs that the way you talk gets through to people WAY better than the way this old lady talks to them!!!! I had a guy contact me last week about training his eight week old puppy. I offered to send him my PDF on raising pups and offered the link to one of my talking videos on raising and training pups. I also suggested getting the Monks of New Skeet's book on the Art Of Raising A puppy. He was OUTRAGED! He said that he did not have the "bandwidth" to watch videos or read PDFs. He wanted me to drive over to his house and say all the same stuff. I told him that if he did not have the "bandwidth" to read a PDF and watch a video to PLEASE rehome that poor puppy ASAP!!! (Did he want me to drive over there, screw off the top of his head and pour some magic "knowledge" into his brain?????) Like you, I also offer all my info on this subject for free because it seems unethical to charge money for something so basic. I love how you hammer home that if you get a puppy, expect to not get so much sleep! Raising a puppy is about being present and focusing on the here and now--not going about your business on auto pilot like we all tend to do. The hardest thing about changing our habits is REMEMBERING to do it differently the next time! Thank you for doing this video Larry! No matter how many times we talk about this, there will always be more new puppy owners coming along who are CERTAIN that they do not need to use the old, time tested ways of raising a puppy. There is no app to buy. There is no virtual reality bullshit that can train a puppy for you. You have to unplug and be real.

I'm glad you says something about stop watering your puppy after a certain time... The one thing I absolutely will always disagree with is leaving water in a crate for a puppy. I've seen some dog trainers insist on learning water with your puppy 24/7 even though the night and it made me sad inside.

Larry great video but a lot of people don’t have yards at all they live in apartments and then they are told not to bring their puppies out of the grass where other dogs go to the bathroom until they have all their shots. How the puppies get a lot of stimulation and exposure when you can’t bring them out until they have all their shots?
Larry I'm the same ,totally on the pup. I don't even bother getting undressed so I can pick pup up and get them out on the grass. Agreed ,to much freedom causes problems.I also agree with exposure,great word Larry. Great advice. Thanks : ) Note, Leads are necessary with Pica issues though .
Thanks this is excellent. Question: if you live in an urban area how do you introduce your puppy to everything safely before they have their second round of shots? I assume after the second round of shots at 10 weeks you are ok to let them get down on the ground and play outside. Thx. !

There's also no problem for a dog to live outside in the cool and warmth of life, and have a deep active beautiful relationship. All my Dogs lived outside, and you eliminate 90 percent of issues. Fully agree with the term and process of exposure. In my experience, I prefer to bond with with puppy for three to four months until full exposure: natural control. I've noticed how rude people are when they disagree. Larry Krohn is giving free information, because of his great love for the canine and people. Even if we have a difference of opinion. We can express ourselves with class and dignity.

I got a 2 1/2 hound mix and he is huge. Anyway ! He is crated now during the night for about 2 months and it had gotten us great results. Now my question is. We are at work for 8-10 hours 3 days a week and he does not do anything we don't want besides maybe jumping on the sofa which we control by leaving s chair on the sofa. He also lives with two little cats and never had any problems. He is a wonderful dog.
My question is. How long with appropriate training of course would be too long for the dog to be crated while we are at work?
Also forgot to mention thatI started reading your book and the e collar has been the best decision since we got our dog rupert !

my 13 year old lab was a real help when it came to helping me train my now 3 year old besenji mix. he hated the crate though but once he was fully trained he rarely needed it. with my pup i would have him observe my dog from far away greeting dogs that we already know since she is well socialized and knew how to properly greet dogs. as young as 8 weeks old i would put my pup in a puppy pouch with a leash on him while i walked my labrador incase he needed to go potty and carried treats for good behaviors'. I would also bring him to stores that allowed dogs with my lab ofc and thats how he learned to not sniff things in stores and to sit or lay down in line.
Every time I see this man I think it is the special forces dog handler I worked with in the army. Almost looks like twins.

bridgettelampkin any advice!? I just got my 7 week old Doberman (kiwah). She’s been having accidents. I tried the pads but they’re no help. I haven’t taken her out cause she hasn’t got her shots. She’s getting them this weekend but I’m scared of taking her out considering what vets say, “don’t take em out til their shots are done.”
Jay Tru hi there we had a few accidents but the key is every opportunity take her outside. Soon as she eats drink water outside with them and watch her potty. Typically accidents happen We they are unsupervised. So just like head keep them in sight. They require a lot of attention but great dogs. You got this 😁

He doesn't show how unless you pay! Which is his prerogative but what do you think of that? No leash, no treats etc. I'd never not use a leash in the city obviously but I was just curious if you'd heard of this method or seen and your thoughts? Thank you again! God bless!
Watching your videos, all your working dogs with all their energy, we were all braced for our St. Bernewfie. He's so lazy. We're working on the training but he's so cuddly and nappy. We'll go easy on training (2 times a day) to give him a chance to recover from the newness.

I took my Rotty in to get spayed this morning. And she was well mannered. When I dropped her off. She needed a muzzle last time. I rescued her a few months ago after having to put down my AMSTAFF. And have been working on her fear aggression on walks. Just trying to keep her mellow. And allow her to adjust her new home. But we had a rough start. And I got nipped a few times for my lack of knowledge. I'll be honest, I put her back on Craig's list one morning. I spent three hours (3-5am) early one morning, with tears in my eyes, writing up the three paragraph post. That morning a nice lady who runs a Rottweiler rescue called about the ad. We talked for a long time about the breed. I almost gave her my dog. Thinking I was beat and couldn't handle her. But I couldn't, I wouldn't, and I didn't. Zoey is coming along well now, and is happy. The rescue organization is funding her spay. And I don't feel so lost anymore.
