Wonderful tips about using the serger for decoration! Can't wait to try it. And great commentary. Looking forward to the next demonstration from Valerie.
Thank you for Thread Sizes to use! I need to serger edge of a knit sweater and did not know exactly what to use. I will be subscribing to your network.

As you can see in our video, you absolutely can! They need to be threaded through the upper loopers with a regular serger thread in the lower loopers and needle. You can then get a really gorgeous decorative effect.
@@WonderFilThreads What I need to know is can I use 3 heavy threads (#8 wt., like perle cotton) in the upper and lower loopers, and the left needle? My machine is a 2/3/4 thread serger. I don't want to use any serger thread at all for finishing the hem on a dress.
@@catherinedilworth1363 sorry for misunderstanding. You may be able to get away with using the 8wt in the lower looper, it depends on the machine. Some machines are more okay with it than others. You will need to loosen the tension for both the upper and lower loopers if you want to try it in both. However we wouldn't recommend putting it through the needle because it's too thick. It would be best to use a regular 40 or 50wt serger thread in the needle in a colour that matches the fabric, that way it won't be seen. If your machine is struggling to use the 8wt in the lower loopers, then you can also try using a 12wt thread instead.
@@WonderFilThreads Thank you for that good answer! I'll try the 50wt. serger thread in the left needle, and the upper and lower looper threads in pearl cotton. I've had success with using pearl cotton in both of the loopers. I'm trying to duplicate a 3 thread overlock that I saw in a 1924 design patent drawing of a doll's dress, and also in a photo of the doll that was manufactured in the mid 1920s. The thick, crochet-like finish was on the collar and the hem. I know that Merrow machines were around then, the precursors to our modern-day home sergers.
Yes you can definitely run it through the cover stitch looper, you may just need to run some tests on a scrap fabric to make sure the tension is set right for the heavier thread. You can run it through any of the loopers, just not the needle :)
Thank you for showing how to bypass the threader! I couldn't figure out how to do that.

Thanks Louise! We always love hearing feedbacks from people!
Nice clear instructions.. Thanks.

Excellent I assume this would also work with the cover stitch looper?
