This is the first song my big brother learned on the guitar. He was a hell of a good player, and a good man. He died a few weeks ago; all I have left of him are memories and music. Thank God for Hendrix, because he’s keeping the past alive for me.
@Jennifer Bittle I’m sorry for your lost.
Brittney King thank you, I really appreciate that.
Your Bro was/ is a badass
Cualquiera de por ahí Thank you, he truly was.
So sorry for your loss. Keep the memories and the music playing
I Allways wonder why everybody is just talking about jimis guitar, and nobody ever mention his voice, that at least for me is just as iconic
Because he's a fucking genius in everything he did. We can only focus on one of those skills
@BENJAMIN NORRIS definitely
He defenitely was a good singer, but not the best. He was the best guitarist.
I was just thinking that my self in the opening few second....that vocals.
Claus Saunte because in the eyes of the formulated and boring modern singing, Jimis vocals arent that impressive or something. We need these part aggressive part mellow voices back
Mitch Mitchell was so unbelievably soulful. Best rock drummer by far in the 60s. He wasn't just loud and busy but could have a very subtle jazzy touch. He was the perfect drummer for the GREAT Mr. Hendrix.
beast of a drummer perfect combination for sure
Actually i believe you're right. The perfect studio AND live drummer.
I agree. The 60s had a beautiful psychedelic rock/soul sound, Mitch Mitchell and Charlie Watts were the best at making something that looks simple sound so perfect.
The more I listen to 'Hey Joe', the more I am drawn to Mitch Mitchell's drumming.
mitch was an awesome player!
Hendrix guitar playing will live on forever.
"When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.' Jimi Hendrix
So... never.
@@wcm4346 I think that's the point
Which certainly didn't happen in this song.
That's heavy brother
Probably one of Hendrix's most sombre and calm performances. It builds up but it never really gets frantic. I appreciate that. It shows that hendrix has alot of range.
Great cover indeed

No one mentions the haunting background vocals. Beyond amazing. This song, every element of it, takes you to another place where the hairs on your neck stand up. Stellar. Genius.
I love the backing vocals, anyone know who did them ?
The breakaways
That's why I keep coming back to this tune.
Strange, even with all the other talent to hear, it's those backing vocals that seem so out of this world.
Well said. I'm with those people that say this is the best version of H.J. of all time.

My favourite Jimi tune. The female background singers give it the extra push into greatness. 🥂🇬🇧🎭
No question about that
@@ianpadraig5263 Wrong mate
Oh yes the female chorus really makes it sound sweet.
The female background singers were good. However, do not think for one moment that Jimi Hendrix ever needed anyone to give anything an "extra push into greatness" but JIMI and the EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those background vocals are awesome but haunting at the same time!
This is the actual first clip I saw if Jimi way back when I was about 14 or so. I was blown away. I'm 71 now, and he still does it to me.

That drumming is actually insane. Mitch is all over the place, constantly doing erratic, unpredictable fills, yet it never sounds wrong. It's like he isn't drumming (as in keeping a beat) but rather playing the drums as if they were some solist instrument, complementing Hendrix perfectly.
Yeah. Serious talent on display.
Well said.
Yeah, he is literally soloing on the drums, as if it was a guitar.
That's Ringo Starr's style all over
Very underrated. Jimi didn't play with riff raff.
The world lost Jimi Hendrix 50 years ago today. He was only 27 years old, his career just beginning with only just 4 years in the spotlight but accomplished tons. "Are You Experienced" (1967) Is one of the albums where heavy metal guitar began, the way he manipulated distortion, feedback & effects in general was pioneering AF. He went on to become one of the highest paid musicians of his time without knowing how to read a signal note of music. R.I.P
Tampoco leen ni una nota musical : Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder o José Feliciano, .... y eso no hace que sean malos músicos
Nor do they read a single musical note: Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder or José Feliciano, .... and that does not make them bad musicians.

There won't ever be anything like Jimi Hendrix. Even if someone comes along with the technical abilities to play guitar like he did, the cat is out of the bag already. When this dude hit the scene, what he was doing probably sounded like something that came from outer space. He made the world feel something it didn't even know existed at the time.
He didn't have much technical ability, his playing was sloppy as hell. But nobody dared tell a black guy that he sucked in the late 60s. He came up with a great sound, that's for sure. But he wasn't a very good guitar player.
@@SuperKONR What's the definition of a good guitar player if not someone who can produce a great and unique sound?
😂 you must not listen to a lot music. There's plenty of guitar players that are much better.
@@-VOR Oh great, don't tell me. You're a Dream Theater fan and you're here to tell us all about how the world's greatest instrumentalists are all "bottom of the barrel?"

this is one of my favorite drum parts in any song
Nobody has been able to do a version of H.J. better then this. A testament to the great ears Jimi and his crew had. They knew it had to be a slow burn, guitars low in the mix, bass not too busy, to highlight the drums and vocals.
.......Masterpiece......

For my money the greatest drumming performance in the history of recorded pop/rock music. He's barely playing a beat, it's all over the place, the whole way through, yet it's never too fussy or too flashy or too shambolic. It's not in the background, it's not a solid foundation, it's every bit as musical and lyrical as the guitar. Mitch Mitchell is man-of-the-match in this one, and for a Hendrix record that's a big ask. Very underrated
"Mitch is the one I worry about losing. He’s a little monster on the drums.
He’s becoming so heavy behind me, that he frightens me.”

Well said. Thank you for SHARING good things about Mitch's virtuosity with the building of this mammoth musical achievement.
GC
Agreed, but they were all exceptional playing togeather.
Mitch is on the beat all the time. As all over the place as it seems, he always comes back right on the money.
totally. ive been doing this song as part of my classic rock set for 15 years. drummers always play the dumbest straight beat with no fills no fun no nothing. they never memorize the changes they just play a beat off of cues they're just not into it. i really wish i could find serious players with passion. its a rare quality in musicians today. people say they can play but they barely understand what it is to be a "player". mitch was a monster he served jimi and his music like he should have like a real player with passion. that's why jimi chose him.
Today is his 77th birthday, rest in piece legend and happy birthday

The perfect track. No flamboyant guitar on this one, just Jimi's cool persona all the way through and some power chords. The female chorus and slow rhythm while the drummer, who must have been in another room or planet, smashing away at 100 MPH.

you feel like that on every video with ads
+Fa'avae Meleisea Nah not really. I would expect ads on a rap video or a pop video. Not a Jimi Hendrix video though. He seems anti-establishment.
Cameron Goodall Lmao
Hip hop is anti establishment, well it's supposed to be but most people today just rap about bullshit but in the 80's and 90's it was very much anti establishment in the mainstream now it's very rare to find mainstream hip hop that's like that but some pretty big ones include immortal technique and Jedi mind tricks (huge group of talented artists)
Get adblock and stop whining...
I still love Jimi Hendrix.
Most soulful Rock song ever recorded... I'm really feeling this song now as my wife of 16 years has told me she's in love with another man and is leaving me and our family, I'm not gonna 'give her the gun' and run away to Mexico to hide, but I do feel the pain that you feel from the lyrics, their delivery, and the untouchable guitar riffs that are haunting decades after their recording
I'm sorry you're having to go through that pain.

Jimi was only 23 years old at the time! Unbelievable...
This legend will live on forever!
It's not just Hendricks guitar playing and voice, but also his lyrics and songwriting ability were off the charts. All together with his guitar, voice, lyrics, tunes and a great base player and drummer , Mitchell was incredible, these 3 guys achieved something that will never be remotely duplicated!
It's a shame Jimi & Chandler couldn't have picked a real bass player for the band instead Noel was always holding his 'guitarist' candle whilst with the Exprience, but the three of them certainly jelled enough to give Jimi his space to 'do his thang' so to speak...!
My father's favorite guitar player. He also saw him in concert when he was a teenager. It was there he became a guitarist himself. He played guitar up until his passing in 2014.

If I were you, I would avoid making preconceived notions about a joke.
If I were angry about anything it would be the fact that music as a whole has become more commercialized, so good artists have a difficult time outcompeting those with corporate sponsors. That's the reality of things that most people fail to realize. Good music is still around, but you have a pile of garbage to sort through first.

His main rhythm guitar part is fantastic. So many brilliant melodic and chrodal ideas in a simple chord progression. I don't understand how such a simple, laid back song can be so capturing and "effective". It's hypnotic! And the way that little part in the beginning sets the mood is amazing.

When I first started playing drumset at age 13 I fell in love with Jimi and Mitch's playing which still blows me away with his vocabulary. Seemingly simple but so understated in how he creates variation after variation expanding the theme and taking it up a notch each time.
Some say 'Little Wing' but I say this is Jimi's greatest. I've lost count how many times I keep coming back to this. Blues built to perfection.
Sometimes the brightest stars burn out the quickest, Jimi just happened to be one of those stars. He, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, all gone far too soon, giving the world just a glimpse into what could've been.

I love Ginger, Ringo, John and Keith, but Mitch is my favorite!
