    To those saying that you could buy a used car for the price of one of these cargo bikes I suggest you consider the running costs. The running cost for one of these is a fraction of that of a car.

      I lived in Denmark, where kids were transported on bikes all the time, there was never a problem. We, Americans, cannot see ourselves without car. How many kids get mangled in cars?

I believe big congested centralized cities, like NYC, can be designed smarter to accommodate bikes and different modes of transportation that would be safer, and cleaner. [Ever tried to drive a car into Manhattan on a weekday-you can literally crawl faster.] Yet, of course, it is not safe at this time- but we should do some forward innovative thinking to improve the quality of life and not get stuck in the idea that having a car is a necessity.

    I have a 2017 yuba supermarche (now called the supercargo), a non-electric bakfiets style cargo bike and it's awesome. I've been putting in 1000 miles a year with my daughter since she was 7 months old. It's the family pick up truck of bikes.

      Great way to get 8 babies smushed in one swoop. This is why chauffeurs licenses were originally conceived. Hauling that many children in a paper car is irresponsible. Current roadways and conditions aren't ready to accommodate these great ideas. Taking these risks with your own kids is one thing. If you have eight that sounds like ride sharing and it should be regulated for child welfare.

    You can transport much stuff, especially when you add a trailer in the back. Something like Carla Cargo.
    But the bad thing is, where to park and the price is pretty fast similar to a used estate car.

      a car will add up costs for fuel, insurance and repairs so a cargo bike will offset the higher price within the first years.
      Parking: you can fit several cargobikes in the parking space of one car.

    I hope for the sake of the market that there are actually people out there that can afford these intimidating sounding prices.. don't forget to wear a helmet.. head injuries are tragic and preventable

      Don't forget to wear one when you are in a car. Despite seatbelts & airbases, head injuries are by farther most common cause of death in car crashes.

      @@zivkovicable honestly not about idea the way people drive.. 10 or 15 years ago I got the notion it would be nice to have one of those lightweight flip visor Riot helmets with the drip seal for winter bicycling.. now I'm afraid to use the thing because it gives people the wrong idea? Depends on how bad the weather is... absolutely different helmets for different purposes

      @@ExileTheKnightsOfMaltaNow & don't forget the shower. A very common cause of head injury is slipping while showering, & of course plenty of pedestrians get run over by cars. Walking & cycling have roughly the same death rate per mile, so probably a good idea to wear one 24/7. You never know,

      Yeah, but you’ll have to pay for insurance and maintenance. A car is much more expensive in the long run.

      that's the reason why many of these companies can't make far. They live in their own bubble. For 12k you can buy a very nice used car. Their products are targeting a very small audience..

    I was fine with the bicycle part, I was okay with the rather steep prices, but when I saw them transporting a guitar, although in a hard case, that was not properly strapped down I shuddered with cold chills at the very thought of one of my precious instruments being unsafely handled.

    The reason for not using electric bikes for most of the places are theft. They are very easy to steal.

      So fit it with a tracker ....That's how I got my bike back. It led me to a lock up. So i called the cops who turned up, busted the thief along with 15 or so other bikes. the police told me that they thought he was responsible for the majority of local bike thefts.

I once lost my bike (when I was a teenager) at a marriage function which was close to my house.. hence I took it.. I never got it back.. the bike and all its good memory lost... :(

Just bring a few friends to the thief's house. & to be fair car theft, motorcycle theft & home burglary are also a problem. I understand the issue, as i'm not originally from where i live now, & back in my home country the police would laugh if you came to them complaining your bike was stolen.

      There's no harm in avoiding unnecessary bloodshed, and less guts to clean off of the bike. However, I remember my Motorcycle Safety course and how to "surmount the obstacle" instead of swerving severely and causing an accident. We practiced riding over a 4 X 4 piece of lumbar to get used to the idea.
