In my opinion young artists should learn Blender + Unreal Engine for unlimited possibilities that are coming soon
First they need to add blend files support, I hate having to export everything every little change!
@J D The fact that I can change stuff in the blend file and see it update in real time on Unity is gold!
USD will be cool but will still be just another export.
I guess though that if blender makes a USD exporter it could work just like the fbx exporter does.
Why Unreal and not Unity3D?
@@HotchiwawaChronicles mainly quixel.
@@HotchiwawaChronicles It's more artist friendly. It has everything artists need built-in.
The whole "pressures other developers into improving their products" bit is interesting to me.
It means you don't even have to use blender to benefit from its existence.
Interior scenes at eight minutes and 30 seconds are very impressive. It's just amazing. So much to learn.
In short, The better Blender becomes the better people wanna make it, and the better they do make it because they can.
Positive feedback loop!
you see at least now the changes in the industry. Autodesk actually testing a indie licencing for about 10 Dollar per month in the states, UK and Beneluxstates. They wouldn´t do this, if all would be happy. I think slowly they take notice, that something is changing.
If you’re a blender do hard fan (meaning you aren’t modeling just donuts) I suggest you learn python and start making custom tools. Blenders greatest strength is it’s just a bar bones system. Don’t wait to ask for features you want. Build them around how YOU work. It’s a challenge but little by little before it becomes second nature and you can start to make larger features for yourself.
You do max scripts then ?
send me a link for your scripts 😂!
خلاط العمارة I know how to write in MEL and python lol. No I’m not sharing scripts lol. That was kind of my point. The community should take the time to learn so they can expand blender
@@educate3d mmm ... let's ask it in other way , what type of scripts you write , how does it help you as an artist ?
@@khalatelomara ah . well I switched to vfx in recent years so everything ive written has been towards that area. The last 6 months ive been working on bringing in some node functionality from Natron over in blender to use for compositing and some procedural nodes for dynamics the way Houdini functions. Hasn't went smoothly entirely but its coming along. Ive saved a bunch on licensing, but traded productivity andtime coding my implementations
@@educate3d vfx is completely different field, and I guess from what I see blender still a little bit basic in that matter , which for us as architects it doesn't matter , basic is enough in that field, because we do 100% 3d , rarely we implement tracking or composting in cinematic fashion
I'm loving this guy with so many videos on Blender
thank you. i am planning to create even more video about Blender.
@@InspirationTuts And also because of Master Chief 😍! Keep spreading knowledge about this software, it's going to change the industry!!
I assume one big reason why major production/VFX studios use proprietary software is that most tools have one major purpose they focus on, hence resources and mechanics are tuned to fit the specific tasks better. For instance, simulations in Houdini give most control, while Maya gives most control in terms of character rigging, Nuke is most powerful for compositing, etc. Blender having to compete with all of them to bring 3D to everyone for free just can't do everything expensive software can do combined. It's a phenomenal tool, but since most 3D artists of any kind that work for studios do one specific task more than others, it just feels logical to provide them with software that can do that task best in the world
Aside from that, big companies such as Pixar develop their own extensions for the software so changing it would mean starting in square one in terms of specific demands.
Subbed! I think you have a great understanding of the gaming/movie market and the importance and power of open source software in the free market. I think Blender will be the #1 3D software soon, within the next 5-10 years, probably sooner. I'll also believe the big AAA game and movie studios will switch to Blender as well (unless the big 3D software companies can actually compete) Blender has become much better over the last 15 years. I remember when Blender came out, I used it back then and a few times since, but haven't used it in probably 5-10 years. It has advanced slowly but surely and no is encroaching on the big corporate controlled media studios. I hope Blender foundation is prepared for a war against for-profit software companies, because that's what may happen when Blender becomes a significant threat to their profits. Hostile takeover? Yeah, it's open source, and no one really owns it. BUT, legally, there may be some convoluted legal loophole in IP law that will allow a corporation to BUY Blender and then shelve it or start charging for it. I hope the open source license is strong enough to prevent that. If it is, and I think it is, then we have the largest development team in the world that builds world class software for people to use for FREE, not for a profit and because it's the right thing to do. It gives everyone the tools they need to build AAA games and make movies. It unlocks the power of the collective creative mind of all of humanity and contributes to the greater good of all just because it's exiting and fun and rewarding and it feels good. It also cuts costs of game developers making it more profitable for even a one-person dev team. Solo artists/creators are the future of entertainment and education. Blender is my choice for developing my games. Thanks!
(sorry for how long the comment is.) lol ;)
videos like this are also important, spreading and building the confidence in this amazing software
Been playing with it off and on since 1.7(something) and love it and its development. Full creative suite for damn near anything you want. 2d/3d video edit, game engine, I could go on for days...
I just wish I had the energy these days to make something I'm proud of in Blender and finish it instead of working stressed in school
Thanks for taking your time to do these videos.
Great video. Just don't say company's are "investing" in Blender. They are donating to the continued development of Blender. There is a big difference. A lot of people hear "invest" and think Blender is being "sold out" to corporate interest, which is not true. There is some philanthropy going on with company donations and there is also self interest to develop free 3D software that they won't have to pay extortionate licenses for.
I used to use 3Ds max in Uni, but after graduation I can’t access anymore and I can’t use student version to make stuff for commercial use. So I switched to blender. I can make 3D models for my games and make arts, and it’s free. What’s not good about it.
yes they can be aggressive when it comes to legal action for people using the software for commercial use, they need to have a profit share model I think to survive in the years coming
@@buda3d2007 that can't really "catch" a small studio...
You could be using max for everything and blender for rendering/exporting...
But yeah, since blender is so good you don't need to anymore.
@@HAWXLEADER Yeah I hear you, theres alot of lines being blurred, its just that you can claim alot of these tools on tax and you often have to be present in front of clients and if you bill them for software thats unlicensed and they catch wind it can be tricky, I have no issue paying for software if I am making money off of it, even if it is free I would do my best to support it, as for blender being close to max, its certainly getting there quickly
@@buda3d2007 I'm all for supporting software however thinking you'll get punished for not doing so is unrealistic since blender exists.
They can never suspect a small studio nowadays.
@@HAWXLEADER maybe, but if you get paid well enough you often don't have to make these decisions, hopefully
The main reason Blender is popular is the fact that it's free. It still lacks things that other software have, though. But it's getting better and better each time.
Blender is an Unstoppable Force...
You can't stop what never started. A few studios using blender among hundreds of thousands using Maya/Max is absolutely nothing. And blender will never be taken seriously with that terrible childish fanbase.
@@phosphorus2740 Isn't a few studios a start? Especially ones like Ubisoft and Epic, AMC for TWD, Netflix for one of their original animated movies.
@@phosphorus2740 You really turned a cold shoulder to the project and fanbase that has created a 2d/3d animation, video editing, compositing software like blender calling them childish. its more childish on how dismissive you are on what the blender community has achieved over the years as a pathetic means of justifying whatever money you spent on maya.
Can you make a video about the differences between 2.78b and 2.81? I'm still learning Blender (as a hobbyist!), But I got easily overwhelmed as I'm not really experienced yet!
What I can say is A LOT. UI, keybind, etc. Basically you can relearn tho.
And I guess we still need to taste the donut for testing.
(Joking aside, 2.8 is really nice)
dont learn 2.78 its gonna be useless, 2.8 is the future and comon once you seen the interface how can you possibly go back lmao
Im waiting UDIM supports in blender and better simulation engines. Im currently slowly switching, and I am using flips fluids as a third party plugins to do fluids as it is faster. Farmer Joe to dispatch render. And the update 2.81 made it even more appealing with a superbe update on the outliner and changing the pivot point.
I've been working with 3Ds Max and substance painter for the past 3 years XD time to forget all i know and start over again :D :D
substance painter is still the best texture painting software atm
@@Unknown-oc1kt true
@@Unknown-oc1kt yes , blender painter is not the best in the market but at least it is there and very nice , zbrush is more powerful than blender sculpting but can't do solid modeling with scale so well or ease like blkender, blender is a package not a single featured software , 3ds max is becoming a plugin bag , it is empty without plugins , unlike blender , you can do so well without complimentary add-on
Blender is the same thing lol. Plug ins/add-ons drive 3d software and enable them to be productive. There’s plenty that blender doesn’t have out of the box that max does and vice versa. Why does this community constantly downplay autodesk software robust packaging out the box? You need an add on to handle retopology, you need an add on for UV unwrap because blenders is just empty and horrible. Same for hard surface modeling, dynamics, etc. There’s a lot when you start digging in and expanding your skill set that blender needs before it becomes something that encourages a good workflow. I can guarantee that out the box max offers an abundantly greater amount of features. خلاط العمارة
You won’t need to start over. 3-d principles stay the same. It’s just a matter of where to find what function in the program
I would say, now it is not a competition on maya, max, or C4D. Now a good idea to compete with Houdini, a lot of my friends just switching to Houdini, from all other software.
Do you think that is what happened to LightWave? Not being a huge company and not going open source?
I loved Lightwave. The default setting were always so perfect. I have a big old stack of VHS tapes on learning Lightwave too. How could I ever throw them away?
3:16 Goldmember? Austin Powers!
I use modo. But it is expensive and you have to get other extra packs to make it more complete in order to stop switching back and forward between other softwares. I am installed blender, bit I found it very different from what I was use to work with, so it resulted difficult to me get fast results. I need long hours to learn it, but I think it is worth to try.
You personally what do you use? ( very nice vid)
I was already sold but... daamn!
I'm a Maya user but i like blender without even using it . I want to use it but it's really hard to learn a new software from scratch.
Maya is indeed a industry level software but it's not for 1 man production tool but blender is .
No blender 2.8 is not hard to learn, watch CGboost's apple tutorial. you have to spend just one hour everyday for a month to learn the way. i switched from 3ds max
had to learn maya in university but teached myself blender from youtube and i can say, i am way better in blender now and i only took like 2 weeks to get 100% comfortable
Screw Adobe and Autodesk! :)
Funny the Wikipedia comparison when a lot of their source material comes from the proprietary business model. People also forget that blender started as a proprietary product from Not a Number before being purchased by the community.
The sequence at: 0:40 is done with Houdini.
*"The Walking Dead Season 8*
"Retopology and UV mapping of human actor scans were done in Zbrush and Blender. Grooming of hairstyles were also done in Blender"
"It feels so strange that Blender is free when it's actually better than most other modelling programs on the market." - Goodbye Kansas studios.
Admittedly that snippet is misleading, but it _was used_ as part of a larger video to advocate for Blender on behalf of the studio who made it, and there is Blender work within it.
agree blender is awesome
The ones who is earning money w/ help of blender should absolutely give credits to Ton Roosendal the man behind this free 3d software suite, blender...
Ahh I remember Encarta...
Whats the story with Apple Mac os system, i hear that the latest version of Blender is not compatible with it?
What about future of motion graphics in blender? Something like MOGRAPH or MASH?
Is blender for good for architecture visualization ?
@Kapture Share, It depends on scene size and your optimization skill.
Guys, if I assume that 3DS Max and Maya are free for Modelling and Animation compare to Blender (to do both), what will u guys pick?
Please be honest. Thank You !
blender i say
3ds max
Will pick both blender and one autodesk package, better to know both snce 3d fundamental s are the same
did you get a chance to test out houdini 18? its a complete game changer !
GG hunting those 16x16 icons around the UI, real f##ing pain. When it came out with monocrome icons it nearly made me uninstall it.
Omg the monochrome buttons on the alpha were a nightmare!
It was a good call making them colored by category and now it's way better.
There are some culprits left in the open source world... Ahhm Gimp! Luckily they can be reverted...
How is Blender 2.8? Is it easy for beginners? I'm trying to find an easy 3d animation software that's used for beginners.
Blender 2.8 as a pretty good new interface, It improved a lot since 2.79. Or just Learn 3ds Max
Blender 2.8 is easier than Blender 2.79 and older, but the easiest is probably 3ds Max. I would caution using 3ds Max though unless you know that you can make your money back. The licenses for 3ds Max are very expensive nowadays. Besides, development of 3ds Max is very stagnant unlike Blender. I've been using Max professionally for 13 years now so I'm talking from personal experience. I'm currently trying to learn Blender 2.8/2.81. 🙂
probaly the best 3d tool for beginners not only because you can practically find any tutorial for anything on youtube
The problem with wikipedia is that it is open to people without the right knowledge; which renders it useless as a source of information. Blender is awesome though.
1:05 What kind of computer hardware is needed to work smoothly like that in real time?
2.81 review pls
Please help, i can't decide if i really start learning like I'm stuck between c4d and this. I wanna do typography 3d and abstract art background like but i don't know :/
well blender's free and has the single best community, so what do you have to lose?
XFlims 3000 blenders community is not the best. It’s pretty toxic out there. Most are running in circles
It doesn’t matter what you learn. You’re asking this in a biased thread and you will almost always get blender because it’s free and awesome etc. In the end for what you mention c4d is the way to go. But it’s not free and that’s the only draw back. So if you aren’t working no need to pay for it. But definitely worth the time to learn and have the workflow down packed in case you end up employed using it.
What I have heard is C4d has his own niche for MoGraph so go for it.
Why not both tho
I mean both are very versatile software in their own right, I'm planning to take up c4d soon myself, so my above wild be too learn then one after another, not together as to let complicated the process
oh boy I just love seeing simulations of people getting eviscerated
Well it is called Blender🤷🏽♂️
Where would I be without Blender.
Great analysis
Can they create a grease pencil app android?
Uh I want to create a game from blender....
BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO
Write it down
Blender would only be helpful for creating 3d models, textures or animations for your game. Blender's game engine was discontinued ages ago. To put together a game, you could try "Unreal Engine 4" but you have to really invest time in coding if you want to do anything ambitious.
Great video :)
"Will it Blend?"
"Lets talk about that"
Hell yeah! Blender rules! >:]
thank you very much.
01:51 Wir mussen die 3DS Maxen ausrotten!
Es ist zeit für rache!
:')
behindertest Programm ever! 2020 sollte niemand mehr als 10 Sekunden warten müssen um ein scheiß Programm zu öffnen und vom Virewport will ich erst gar nicht anfangen
Still no Vray for Blender 2.8. 😥 This is a big drawback for many studios that want to transition from Max/Maya to Blender since they are already used to Vray and it's speed and quality.
cycles can compete vray now, but vray is very different from max in blender, as I have used vray for max for years. now i love cycles. cycles is very easy to setup. it's unbiased render engine.
@@spiritofmax But I'll have to buy new fast GPUs to render in Cycles since it's GPU only, correct? I already have very good CPUs (Threadripper) and wouldn't want them to just sit unused when I already have them. Besides, Vray is more feature rich.
@@bgtubber No no no my friend, cycles can be used for both cpu and GPU only and combined as well. Eevee uses GPU only.
@@spiritofmax Oh, ok. Thanks for letting me know. Is Cycles CPU fast and optimized enough though? How does a 16-core Threadripper 1950x compare to a GPU like RTX 2080 Ti for example in Cycles?
@@bgtubber it's great, there are lots of videos on blender using threadripper benchmarks on UA-cam
Blender is open source and free to use thats why its so popular.
it has been for 15 years, and it never was so popular all the pros started covering blender on the regular... so, that's clearly not the reason lol
movie studios and the such are tied to pipelines,
but as game devs got bigger and the money in it started exceeding that of movies, demands changed
and many of them benefit from being able to change things to the code to expand to their specific needs right then and there.
and clearly eevee was the biggest reason, that realtime PBR viewport is really nice fro game devs and animation guys
adaptabilty/portabilty are a pretty big thing again now, any regular joe with a python in his pocket can write their own exporters.
i think blender complements things more than it replaces.
So cool.
This software and software like it currently being used to control what we “like”, “favorite”, buy and yes, who we vote for. The human mind is it’s own worst enemy. We’re done. But at least our movies are cool👍🏽😀👍🏽.....🤦🏽♂️
the algorithms are expanding their control of humanity.
gene eric maybe that’s what’s supposed to happen🤷🏽♂️ maybe we just THINK we’re affecting our own evolution.
There is no power in open source. Blender is just the exception.
It's not a big deal and it's becoming "commercial" fast, because most useful addons and features are not free. I wouldn't be surprised if someone actually buys Blender and close the source, but we have to wait for it to become a real threat to commercial software which is not yet.
Blender is free and open source, so it can't really be purchased because of the way it is liscenced.
@@Charely1925 I bet they can change it. You can buy anything, right?
@@Kricen That is honestly up to the owner, but if I remember correctly, he specifically licenced blender in such a way so that it cannot be bought or sold.
@@Kricen The owner of Blender said that he wanted a good 3d software for new artists for free. And he made it because no one else would.
He did an interview with a big guy in the Blender community named "Blender Guru".
You can check it out. He talks about exactly that.
Though... his accent can be a little bit hard to understand.
Blender is cool and all, but I'm so use to 3ds max. Plus max has a ton of more tools and I have it free 2 more years.
Stay on Max. Blender has no future in the industry, all studios heavily rely on Max/Maya.
@@phosphorus2740 - That would be ignorant of you to say. Blender being open source, it certainly has a future, more so than max or maya; and Blender is being used by large companies today! (Epic games, ubisoft, Netflix Shows, NEXTGEN was made using it, and some other Anime studios) Blender is growing very fast and popular studios are actually complaining that maya isn't giving the tools they want to see in their pipeline so I wouldn't doubt they'd casually find their way to Blender for their fully open source functionality. Blender is no joke like it once was. It's really looking good right now.
7:39 Not gonna happen. Autodesk went rentware for a reason: so it could sit back and rake in the money while continuing to do very little future work. The idea that Blender can force them to reverse that strategy-back away from their entire current corporate mindset-doesn’t seem likely. As is typical with similar situations in the past, the top management will fight tooth and nail to avoid recognizing that the market is leaving them behind.
If you want to draw a little story board on eink tablets between project to protect your eyes and continue to work animation there is this little project in free beta : essaie.fr It's not a real open source project and it's not to compare in the same way than 3d software as Blender.
Lets be honest. Blender is popular now because of left click.
At last some said it!! Hahahaha!
It had it in previous versions, you could even change it in the settings
@@HeySlacker It was a joke
@@HeySlacker i know. But it's standard now. technically settings could make max or maya rightclick based if you wanted, but it's not a thing if it isn't standard.
Been a maya n max user for years just 2 days ago I jump to blender. For now, just to learn and play with it. (Shits n giggles). ZBRUSH I will never leave.. atm I would use blender just for Retopology. Cause its fukn dope..
Cheers!
Because its free babbieeeeeesssssss
Why is that these app is free I don’t get it
whatch this Video (Why is Blender Free) : ua-cam.com/video/yfg8ydtOUDg/v-deo.html
Short answer is that the guy who made it is a badass.
the mindset of creativity above profit
it's not hard to understand, just hard to find people like that that can actually make it work :D
Блендер крут :)
Autodesk?? Hell no fucking grey grey everywhere 😂
All open source applications don't have the success they deserved.
0:45 ok hold on
who came here from 3Dudes?
What is that nazi movie?
It's "The Man in the High Castle" series streaming on amazon prime.
Its not
Are you seriously posting this in 720p max in 2019? Dude, cmon. Repost it in 4K, please.
What about Houdini vs blender? Maya iis/has been losing professional share for a long time.
dude you spoiled the show lol sorry I can't watch more
