Marvel is at its Breaking Point

  • With Thor Love and Thunder and She Hulk being the latest disappointments in the Marvel lineup I knew it was time to look at what is going wrong with Marvel in Phase 4. So, I started a rewatch of the Infinity Saga from Iron Man to Spider-Man Far from Home. Along the way I was surprised that movies like Iron Man 2 and Captain America the First Avenger held up so well! As I continued to watch some of the less enjoyable movies like Thor the Dark World and Avengers Age of Ultron, I began to understand why Phase 4 has been so underwhelming.
    Great. Another video essay of a guy complaining about Marvel… But really, I want to look at why things feel different and create some hope for the future.

    For many of us Endgame was the finale, a near perfect ending of a decade old journey.

      Describing endgame as a perfect ending is a contentious statement for me and many others. Infinity war was such a masterpiece which ended in thanos getting his way, so much so that endgame had to reach into the absurd to make a plot that would correctly undue thanos deeds.
      The massive plot contrivance and silliness combined with the cringe things they put in the movie, like making Thor fat turned me off to it

    I just stumbled upon this channel. I am a marvel fan and knew there was a formula but couldn’t put my finger on what it was. This video described it well and provided many great examples. This is a very underrated channel that produces quality content! Thank you :D

    Transformers and Marvel have something in common.
    Phase/Movie 1: memorable and good, giving nostalgia and good vibes during the whole thing and good action.
    Phase/Movie 2: ehhh some stuff is iffy with this, not much to give or take but there’s some gems in it.
    Phase/Movie 3: Really good with a lot of it! Precisely memorable down to the core and really gives out the truest impression on media, and enjoyable. (And additionally I believe both ended on this end instead of continuing)
    Phase/Movie 4: it’s a lot to handle..

      What does that mean for Phase 5/movie 5? Iron Man comes back from the dead as a villain (like Optimus) haha!

    This is how to critique Marvel. I still love the movies but can tell there's flaws right now, and you perfectly summed it up. I think a big part of this is just the fact that they lost 2 whole years of cinema and are off course. They also need writers who write shows, not movies. All the shows are two hour plots into six hour shows but we need people who know how to write 30 minute episodes like the people on She-Hulk. Overall, fantastic video, and I hope to see more from you in the future.

      It's great to hear you liked the video! You make a really good point as well: The Disney Plus shows really do feel like movies that were stretched out. Even Loki had this issue despite starting out with an interesting episodic approach...

    The same guy who wrote Loki and Dr. Strange 2 is gonna write Avengers: Secret Wars. It's probably gonna have the exact same problems as well.

      @MovieKnightYT  Рік тому +1

      I agree with you. It is a little concerning that Feige has so much faith in Michael Waldron (he's writing a Star Wars movie too). I always take a "wait and see approach," but Secret Wars could easily be a mess.

    • @toasterwaffle016
      @toasterwaffle016 Рік тому +1

      Secret Wars might be fine because it doesn't have the Disney Plus problem like Loki or the Covid problems like Doctor Strange 2. But who knows, he might also be really monitored by Feigie this time too

      @@DavidMartinez-ce3lp But like what I mean is that he had to write these through extensive reshoots at the last minute. He wrote early Rick and Morty so I'm confident.

      @@toasterwaffle016 They were willing to deviate from the original plan for Dr. Strange 2, because Tobey and Andrew decided to return No Way Home. They could easily come up with a plan, and then immediately change that plan and shoot themselves in the foot.

    This is probably one of your best videos! The format of this video is really entertaining, instead of just giving an answer, going back to see what worked and didn’t work in the past to see what’s working and not working now. I agree, I think they’re focusing way too much on the big picture and stretching their formula too thin (as well as their VFX artists). Black Panther 2 looks like it’ll be avoiding this problem, at least from the recent trailer. Though, in fairness I did say that about Thor 4 and we all know how that turned out.

      Thanks! I thought adding a little storytelling might make the video more interesting. I'm definitely holding out hope that Black Panther 2 turns things around. Of course, I also thought Thor 4 was going to be great...

      @@MovieKnightYT I was blindsided by Christian Bale. I thought his involvement would mean quality and, to be fair, he was the best part of that movie, but I was still quite wrong. Also, great work on that thumbnail! I like how Mickey is hiding there in the background ominously
