@@j.m.w.5064well talk for yourself. I am with him. I liked 2 the best and 1 is second in my list. 3 sure is the least favorite but still better than most films these days.
nah, there’s an exhaustion with the current sequels and remakes thing. we’re already seeing a swing back to original movies with barbie and oppenheimer. movies will be good again
@@donb2527 While I have many problems with it I will say it honestly did impress me. Unlike 90% of films these days made by big studios it wasn't trying to be something else. It was a pretty unique movie that combined really good practical sets with fun CGI that wasn't completely overused imo. It was pretty refreshing.
rewatching these movies is like reliving my childhood. i forgot about that sense of wonder and adventure these movies gave me growing up. The whole essence of movies were different back then.
Honestly this trilogy ranks up there with Indiana Jones and Back To The Future in terms of being a straight up gift to humanity. The layers of meaning, the character arcs, the overlapping themes, the music, cinematography.... chef's kiss all night long. I think a lot of people have trouble with 2 and 3 because it gets pretty deep into dialogue/story and the writer's deep investment in the characters. When they released I was hardcore into the fandom so for me they were a joyride and still are.
@theamberheardplaylist6768 It’s amazing how your channel has been trying to protect Amber Heard for several years, even after her “phenomenal” performance in court. please wake up and face the truth, she is a liar and an abuser
I really don't get why the sequels got such a harsh/lukewarm reception from a critical perspective. The characters were advanced, the effects were fantastic, the story was gripping and had high stakes, and the music was amazing. What more could you want?
The problem was that Jack took more of a central role in the story. So much so that, much of the story is about him but it seems like he reluctantly wants to stay on the sidelines for the entirety of 2 and 3. It created a conflict among the fanbase as to Jack's supposed role in the story. Most were in favour of him being more suited for a supporting role. Personally I felt 1 did not use him as much as they could have but 2 for me was the perfect amount. Especially since 2 and 3 were dealing with heavier subjects like love, loss and immortality we needed more Jack to bring a unique twist to the subject matter. 😅
I think the more convoluted plot points in 2 and 3 were enough to distract the audience especially as it was marketed as family adventure kind of movie. Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow kind of turned into a bit of a caricature who lacked any substantial character development. The sudden jump in 3 to this intricate and complex Pirate community of Lords and even a King suddenly blew open plot holes and a ‘why was that never mentioned before?’ response type. I still think they’re amazing movies though and not given the justice they deserve.
@@JamesMcKenzie505 characters dont always need character development to be good characters, take Steve Rodgers/ Captain America for example. He is stoic and stays true to his morals over 7 movies while the world around him changes Jack is similar across POTC 2 & 3, the world is getting smaller and pirates are being killed off and prosecuted left, right and centre but Jack stays true to himself and the freedom he promotes as a pirate It's Jack's ties to other characters that drives the plot which in turn gives character development to the other leads, Will and Elizabeth
Don’t get me started on that cgi. Movies hold up quite well today. Not to mention the expansion of the story. Truly well made. I greatly enjoyed the sequel. One of my favorite sequels in all time next to aliens. Cheers
I think one thing you missed: Jack Sparrow is the main character, but it’s Elizabeth’s story. You hinted at it with her character arc, but it is her story that comes full circle. It’s a great thing about the trilogy and shows where you can have a protagonist be the main character but another to serve as the viewers’/readers’ point of reference
The entire trilogy is will and Elizabeth’s story. They’re the first 2 characters we meet. It’s why the 4th and 5th weren’t as good because they focused too much on jack sparrow. Sparrow is an excellent character but he’s like Vader or Han Solo in Star Wars where people are gonna love him, but it’s not his story. His goals as a charcter arent the main goals of the trilogy. Fucking amazing.
The actors for Barbossa and Davy Jones are also criminally underrated, incredible performances from both. And this is my favorite Hans Zimmer score, along with the lion king.
When I was a child, I remember being incredibly confused about the fact that they were making more movies after the 3rd one. The 3rd movie had such a solid and bittersweet ending. The newer movies just undermine everything that happens in the 3rd one.
@@banshee-fck I personally don't like it because it's "out of the original trilogy" Without the full cast (especially Will and Elizabeth ) it's not "it" anymore. And I somehow didn't care about the new main characters. I have no emotional connection to them. + The main villains were not that interesting. Moreover, I was disappointed with what they've done to Barbossa...
@@nersi6770 I understand you. I missed Elizabeth but I never cared about Will so that wasn't a problem. Third part seems like a mess so forth part felt so much better. But obv 1&2 are top tier.
Mostly because of the mermaid and priest love story in addition to black beard and his daughter being weaker villains compared to beckett, Jones and Barbosa in terms of writing.
This triology is amazing. Just watched at worlds end again. The constant backstabbing and plot twists is so good, but by the end, even though every character betrays every other character at some point, they all end up aligning in the end. Its just super pleasing to watch.
I LOVE the betrayals in all of the movies, you really can’t expect anyone to not go behind another persons back, , because there’s no sides, everyone is just acting in their own best interest and doesn’t care about what happens to the people involved in getting what they want
After Johnny won the trial, a local cinema did a POTC screening for a week. During the scene where Jack arrives with his ship with the help of the crabs, everyone was cheering.😂
Something else to mention about this is that we had not one, but two fantastic villains by the 3rd movie. Lord Beckett was incredibly intimidating, not because he looked deformed or was explicitly violent like Davy Jones, but because of how far he was willing to go to uphold the good name of the trading company, justifying every bad action he ever took in the name of "good business". His death scene is and always will be one of the most glorious pieces of cinematography to have ever been created.
As someone who has been a champion of these movies for quite literally near my entire life, it is so rewarding and validating after all these years to FINALLY see Dead Man's Chest and At World's End get the recognition they deserve as truly great sequels in a wholly satisfying trilogy. Great video!
I just did the same thing. It's a much better trilogy than I remember. Definitely one of the best trilogies. They don't make blockbusters like they used to.
The movie series is definitely a trilogy. The 4th movie is honestly ok while the 5th is garbage, but both are not a part of the stories and just exist as fodder. You don’t need to watch either but don’t let them drag down this masterful trilogy
@@GrayGamer The 4th movie is good as it's own movie. As a story, and plot, it's well done, what messes it up is it's connection to already incredible trilogy. If they took the same storyline and made it as it's own, new pirate movie with original charecters, you'll get something better :)
the kraken is actually half practical, which really makes you feel the impact. all the destruction is also 100% practical, and if I remember correctly, the kraken mouth is half practical, but they cgi over it because it actually looked unrealistic ironically enough
The cgi is good because they paid the artists and let them achieve their best work without being greedy. Davy jones doesn’t have anything “practical” as you put it but he is one of the best cgi characters of all time. So sick of people blaming artists when it’s greedy studios that a destroying cgi work.
@@zara-zq1oi I didn't blame the artists lol. I'm praising how the use of half practical effects helped the movie immensely. The cgi in this film is really good, one of the best. The practical effects only amplifiers how amazing the cgi feels, and helps the world feel more realistic.
@@ozthebeeman mmmmm ok the Star Wars prequel films have always been criticised for the cgi even though they used more miniatures than the original movies. Most people have no idea what they are talking about but mm. Also it’s just so dystopian to me that all of you want to spend millions destroying a real ship while half the world starves. Hollywood is already morally decayed and dystopian the entire idea we spend billions on entertainment at the expense of real lives is sick.
@@zara-zq1oi I genuinely don't even know where to start with this. first of all yeah I guess Hollywood makes a lot of money, and doesn't donate that like that's a thing, but how is that related? Like are you saying by making the film cheaper they would instead donate the money that they didn't spend? First of all that's not how studios work, second of all, even if it did work like that, they wouldn't donate the money which is kind of a problem, but there are better solutions to poverty. The best solutions to poverty always require better jobing market, something that already exists in some countries, but seriously that's a conversation for another topic. Of course good CGI is important. Good CGI will always make a film look better than bad CGI, like obviously, and I am praising this film for having good CGI I don't get where you're coming from, that you're saying that I'm saying that this film has bad CGI, because I'm not. of course this film has good CGI I was literally praising the CGI in my comment.
@@lardoramBeckett's death scene is ofc top-tier but it really didnt sit well with me that Jack just lost the Pearl like that. Just being drunk and Barbossa stealing his ship and crew which he just didnt deserve, its Jacks ship through and through.
@@matsh5633 it due to the fact that it ties all two previous films together on a very satisfying way, giving us closure on will and Elizabeth, but also having Jack and Barbosa stay in their rivalry still leaving it open for many other possibilities
They could have just taken the iconic theme from the ride, but they decided to make their own, and it was one of the best decisions they could have ever made
Jack being in the exact same spot in the end adds a touch of believability to the movies in my opinion. we often see character arcs in fantasy movies where the heroes become kings, emperors, generals, great magicians who save the world, and get through such big changes, while Jack no matter the great story and adventures it's back at square one, as if he could have had countless adventures before the curse of the black pearl ending up where it was anyway.
Jack Sparrow is based off of a real pirate. The real Jack Sparrow converted to Islam, and saved a bunch of lives of Muslims and Jewish people before retiring. That would make a great movie. The real story of Jack Sparrow.
@@Augustus_Imperator It's absolutely true. And I think I'd make a great movie. Unfortunately most people in the West are brainwashed so they wouldn't appreciate a movie like that.
I dont understand why is so hard for the world to see the magnificence of this trilogy. This is my infance movie saga, such as Star Wars, Jurassic Park or Harry Potter were for other people. And indeed is so underrated.
I cannot get over how amazing the CGI in this film is. It's something I never appreciated enough as a kid, but it's stunningly good, especially on Davy Jones. For a film so old now, with modern titles not even holding a candle to it, it really makes you think what the fck went wrong
12:00 the purgatory stuff really has the ability to stick because of its uniqueness. From the first time I saw it the year of release, until today it’s always been one of the first things I think about when discussing POtC
" 10 years, I devoted to the duty you charged me. 10 years I looked after those who died at see, and finally, when we could be together again, you weren't there. Why weren't you there? " That still remains one of my favorite movie lines out of any movie I have seen
Well, you sold me. This trilogy is truly EPIC! I’m still not as big of a fan of Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End, but you’ve convinced me that it’s a near-perfect swashbuckling adventure!
Just watched the trilogy and is definitely one of the best of all time. Curse of back pearl is a masterpiece while the others are brilliant sequels that delve deeper into the lore and characters. Thanks for the video, really enjoyed watching 👍
I rewatch the trilogy each year its SO GOOD the villains are insanely well written and well acted the plot and the effects are beautiful the world is massive
Great video! I love POTC so much thanks for making this. Someone may have already mentioned but just wanted to bring up that Hans Zimmer didn’t join POTC until Dead Man’s Chest. Curse of the Black Pearl and Jack’s theme we’re composed by Klaus Badelt👍
I think Dead Man's Chest is frustratingly close to being among the best movie sequels, but is pulled down by the cannibal island sequence which is not only unimportant to the plot but also contains the movie's most cartoonish moments. I think the rest of the film is fantastic though. At World's End is more uneven, but there's so much to love about it as well.
@@nersi6770 Lol that's cool I guess. The Jack Sparrow stuff in that scene got a little too ridiculous for me, but I enjoy watching the other pirates escape in the bone cages.
Yeeeeah I remember really liking the cannibal island scenes as a kid but after a recent rewatch it definitely stuck out like a sore thumb, and yes completely unnecessary for the narrative
This trilogy, the 6 Star wars films that were made, and the 3 films peter Jackson made about Tolkien's books are some of my favorite movies of all time
The original trilogy were perfectly sound and fit together like a jigsaw puzzle and with every rewatching each year gives a sweet taste of fruity nectar like finely aged wine
This trilogy is so underrated. Wish more people could see the original “making of” videos that came with the DVD’s. Specially with 2 & 3. Not sure if they are still available somewhere. The practical effects with full size ships and the actors trying to withstand all of it. It’s amazing to watch and it shows in the movies. These were expensive movies as well because of them and that’s probably why they still stand the test of time. Great video essay, I am obviously biased, but great movies!
This comment is for every viewer!!! (Part 1) For anybody who is always praising the first movie to be the best. I have been studying 1-3 and I constantly re-watch them. Pirates of the Caribbean does not go downhill in writing after the first movie. That is your business to believe that opinion everyone else goes with. Dead man’s chest gave the characters more depth! Elizabeth and William barely have anything to work with in the first movie. William’s relationship with his father that was hinted in the first movie of his father‘s existence. Paid off wonderfully. William’s character had way more in depth now and you have something to truly care about him for. You get both perspectives when you understand their Reunion! Bootstrap didn’t want Will to become a pirate like him, he wanted him to have a free life from the pirate life. William had a hard time accepting he was half Pirate but when he accepted his life and his father… He has a new journey to stab the heart of Davy Jones to set his father free. And you’re implying William is better in the first movie just because he wanted to save the girl he loved? William in the second movie now has Elizabeth as a lover. And now a new journey to rescue his father someone else he cares about. And this became a difficult situation when bootstrap told Elizabeth at world‘s end. William has to make a decision. Either don’t kill Davy Jones so he can be with you. Or he does kill Davy Jones and set me free, but he won’t be able to be on land for 10 years. If I were him I wouldn’t pick me! 😕 The emotional weight on William’s character gets better and better. Elizabeth in the first movie was just a damsel in distress girl. She wasn’t useless in the first movie but you get the point. In the second movie, Elizabeth learned to wield a sword and she used it in the battle. She pulled a gun to Beckett‘s head.. went on her own journey to save will. She has grown a lot since the first movie who was just an innocent girl! Elizabeth got better as a character in 2 and 3! As for Jack sparrow. He does not become a joke at all in all 3 movies. Jack sparrow is at his best in the second movie and in the third movie. There was a moment in dead men’s chest… Where Jack didn’t know what he truly wanted so the compass couldn’t locate what he desired. So when Elizabeth went on her journey and then found Jack.. Jack used her for his advantage! He took advantage of Elizabeth’s feelings by telling her if you want to save Will you have to want to find the chest of Davy Jones! In order to get will back.. That’s why Jack gave her the compass. Jack knew if he couldn’t figure what he wanted out he was going to get it out of Elizabeth. Since Elizabeth now wants to find the chest of Davy Jones to save will. This gives Jack the huge opportunity to find the chest to stab the heart in it. But instead he wants to control DavyJones before killing him. Jack sparrow is not stupid! When will was trying to stab the heart towards the end of the second movie. Jack knows just because Davy Jones is dead, does not mean the Kraken will be stopped as well. And you’re telling me Jack is dumb after part 1?? As for Beckett. He was a well executed villain who uses dialogue and negotiation to control people. The Reason why Beckett didn’t fire his cannons at worlds end. Was because it would be totally out of his character to use weapons. Beckett uses certain words to get through people and how to control them behind the scenes. Beckett at the end of the movie had nothing left to negotiate with. Davy Jones was dead, Jack sparrow is alive and well. Will Turner is now the new captain of the Flying Dutchman. Beckett had literally nothing to use against on people. He was caught in shocked and he decided to die.. Anyways I could defend the Gore Verbinski’s Trilogy all night. His trilogy is an underrated trilogy. It had great character writing and amazing detail of its depth. Also Will vs Davy Jones!!! 😈😈😈 when Will challenging Davy Jones. Davy Jones asks him how do you know about the key? Will replies and says, that's NOT part of the game is it? 😏 You can STILL walk away!! 😏 As for pirates 4/5 they are not even Canon they are filler movies. The story ended at worlds end! ☠️ (Part 2) Dead man’s chest has a very simple plot.. Jack sparrow is the master at controlling peoples hearts to get what he wants and out of a situation. He screwed over Will so Jack can save himself… But it worked in his favor for his reunion to meet his father.. William even told Jack you screwed me over but because of you I was reunited with my father after such a long time.. Elizabeth was caught in Jack’s illusion of trusting him to get Will back that had nothing to do with him which was a lie. Will being on Davy Jones ship had everything to do with Jack lol. Jack left on good terms with Elizabeth and William in the first movie. Elizabeth had every right to believe Jack…. It was Jack who took advantage of her feelings to find the chest by telling her if you want to find will you need to find the chest of Davy Jones! But it was an illusion so Jack can get closer to find the chest of Davy Jones to control him. But to also go back and save will after Jack got what he wanted. If people don’t understand these movies that’s their problem. But I understand every movie! That’s why I rank 2>3>1 ☠️☠️☠️ (Part 3) I’m sorry to break it to you but the curse of the Black Pearl is my least favorite in the trilogy. I rewatch the trilogy every few months. And to me I just don’t find it as deep or as interesting compared to dead man’s chest or at worlds end. Curse of the Black Pearl is still a well written amazing film. It’s just I’d rather choose having William struggle on trying to save his father from Davy Jones along side using very clever strategy and dialogue during the dice liar game on Davy Jones to get key from him.. VS William in the first movie who just wants to save Elizabeth…. I love darker storytelling and when steaks are becoming higher! Dead man’s chest gave me everything.. Elizabeth was a useful damsel in stress female lead in the first movie. But I would rather choose her character development in the second movie compared to her in the first movie. Elizabeth pulled a gun on Beckett’s face. She went on her own journey to save William. Who also taught her how to defend herself with swords. And that paid off well at the end of the movie! Her development is miles better in (Dead mens chest) compared to herself in the first movie who just takes the fall for William to protect him from Barbosa. Jack sparrow’s dialog and clever intelligence grew (MORE) in (dead men’s chest) and (at worlds end) and you cannot convince me otherwise. If people think he became a joke after the first movie that sounds like a (YOU PROBLEM) Jack sparrow is pretty intelligent in the second movie on being a master at manipulation and taking advantage of people around him to get himself out of a situation in order to save his life and possibly everyone else’s. He just knows how to play the game like that….. You can’t trust Jack sparrow on making the right decisions because he’s supposed to be ahead of the game on everyone’s perspective on him. If Jack was easy to follow with answers he wouldn’t be Jack sparrow lol. Not to mention what’s with this opinion on people saying Jack sparrow was someone you should not mess with?? Jack sparrow literally wants you to mess with him so he can use that to his advantage to pull you in under his string, for you to doubt him in order to rise up above everyone else. You were caught in his illusion the entire time so he can be superior at the end of the situation and screw you over. If Jack sparrow was someone to NOT mess with, just like Davy Jones.. Then you wouldn’t be caught in Jack sparrow’s illusion on being the worst pirate in the world.. No seriously if Jack had the same fear approach as Davy Jones…. Then all you would have to do were to look at Jack sparrow for a few seconds and be so scared of him, Everyone would just run away.. literally what’s the fun in that for Jack Sparrow?! If he was someone to not mess like people claim. Then (WHY) do people keep on assisting 100% on messing with Jack Sparrow?? Please answer that man lol. That literally makes no sense… You have to mess with Jack sparrow to be caught in his illusion of doubtfulness so he can be the superior person in the situation and also getting out of a dangerous situation. He literally pulls you in as a fool because people were messing with them. Like come on?! 😂
Sorry but for me it is 2>1>3 because 3 just adressed too much in a shorter time. It had to sacrifice a lot on the inventiveness on the first 2 movies. I liked 3 for its grittier plot and character drama but the action sequences were sacrificed for that and that was a vital part of the first 2 movies. The trilogy is still one of the best made films though.😅
For me proof of how smart jack is , was in 3rd movie when all pirates meet. He literally manipulated all pirate lords into doing exactly what he wanted.
The first film was great, but it relied a little too much on the plot of/references to the ride. Curse of the Black Pearl was so iconic in its own right that the writers were able to cut ties and expand their own universe
I gave them three PoC film stories at one time and they took it and ran with it, I had nothing to do with any other pirates film... Thanks for detecting the diminishment after my initial trilogy. That happened with Lost as well. You can tell when the second team took over. I've not been paid for Pirates of the Caribbean123 (or LOR123 or Star Wars or E.T. (my name's on Elliot's doodles). $7 million for each film + 2.2% of the gross.
One thing I really loved about these movies is that it blurs the lines between the "good guys" and the "bad guys". Each character is not motivated by "good" or "evil" but rather have their own motivations and goals. You can see this with each alliance that is formed. They agree to an alliance not to help each other out, but because the offer on the table will help each party involved achieve their own goal. The other way an alliance is formed is because someone has leverage over someone else. No one is really loyal to anyone else. Many characters change their alliances throughout the trilogy. Ironically the only loyal character(Gibbs) constantly gets screwed over. In the final battle it doesn't really feel like a "good vs evil" battle. It's a lot messier than that. It feels more like two nations have a conflict with each other. Both sides have a reason to take out the other. You are not really sure who is in the right, who is in the wrong, or if that really matters anymore. In a way that makes it feel like a real life conflict. This is my favorite movie trilogy. I own them on Blu-Ray and they all have uncompressed audio. Sounds incredible!
One thing I've seen in pirate media is the theme of centralized vs decentralized power. Beckett and the navy are a centralized force that tends towards extremes. Either they are too weak and allow pirates to run rampant, or they swing the other direction by ignoring human rights and committing a kind of genocide. Decentralized power tends to be morally gray. The pirates just want freedom. For some, that means exploring the world and achieving their dreams while others like to pillage and plunder. The only time they can agree is when freedom itself is threatened
The 4th movie was an alright stand alone when you isolate it from the first three imo, but for the 5th one the only good thing that came out of it was that Will and Elizabeth got reunited (by questionable means). Even thought I love Davy Jones as a villain, idk how to feel about the possibility of him coming back, it just feels too unauthentic unfortunately
Your opinion perfectly aligns with a theory I’ve been working out for myself. Until recently, whenever people asked what my favorite movies are, I totally drew a blank because I worried that I wasn’t remembering all of the greatest films ever made. But then I thought, maybe my favorite movies aren’t the most well-made movies. Maybe they’re the ones that stick with me the most, and that I would be happiest to watch again and again. That perspective TOTALLY changed my list of favorite movies. The movies I would list as my favorites now include Coraline, The Prince of Egypt, Aliens, Harry Potter, and the Pirates movies. Because to me NOW, it’s not about whether they’re the best movies ever made - I don’t think you could argue that any of my choices are _literally_ the best movies ever made. But they are extremely memorable and extremely re-watchable. And that makes them great to me.
Please give credit where it’s due: Klaus Badelt’s theme. KLAUS BADELT. He was the composer for the first film!! We can thank him for the ICONIC POTC we all love today. Hans Zimmer expanded on it beautifully in the other two films. But it was not his genius this time that made the POTC theme
When they started filming pirates 2&3 the script hadnt even been written. They worked with an incomplete script for so much of it and to still come out with such high quality sequals is a monumentous feat.
Dead man's chest is the best one imho. Introduction of Davy Jones: one of the best villains in cinematic history imo, Tia Dalma: I love her portrayal so much, such a fun character to witness, The Kraken: no explanation needed Beckett: underrated character Awesome music Awesome CGI that still holds up to this day The hilarious island scene with the wheel and Kebab Sparrow 😅 What more do we want?
I’ve watched this trilogy over a hundred times. I remember watching dead man’s chest in theatres the day it came out. Always wanted to be like Will and go on these crazy adventures. The fourth movie was a huge blow; and I knew the road they were going was going to destroy my childhood. Star Wars, Halo, and this, people just don’t know when to end a good series
Just realised, theirs absolutely no reason for will and Elizabeth not to be together. He can only go on land once every ten years? Okay. Why doesn’t she, oh, I don’t know.. GET ON THE SHiP!!!
Yeah, a lot of people pointed that out, but I feel like it's because William has a 24/7 shift of constantly ferrying those who died at sea to the afterlife, and Elizabeth aboard the dutchman would just serve as a "distraction" for Will's curse. This is just my standpoint, I'd be willing to get any sort argument
Another unsung hero that goes unrecognized is the actual composer of the Pirates theme and overall score that defined the rest of the movies was Klaus Badelt. His original pirates score still holds up and is among some of the greatest compositions in cinema.
The performances from Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, and Bill Nighy are especially worthy of praise. I think a lot of people underestimate how tough it is to give such wonky performances and how close they're actually getting to stepping over the line and completely destroying any sense of reality or seriousness WITHOUT actually crossing that line (in the initial trilogy, at the very least). If they had dialed it up just a little bit, I honestly believe the whole entire trilogy could just crumble before or eyes, but they maintained it at the perfect level. But it's not just them who have over-the-top roles, you obbiously have pretty much the whole crew if the Black Pearl, alongside people like Tia Dalma.
I didn't even realize the 2nd and 3rd movies were somewhat unpopular? I don't know, it seemed obvious to me that they were all amazing, I didn't think they would even need to be defended.
When I was a kid, I was in the Caribbean with my family on a yacht. One day on the horizon we saw a real old school pirate ship flying a real pirate flag. I cannot describe the fear/excitement I felt. We ended up sailing by and seeing a film crew on there. So I guess my family weren’t as scared as I was. Jump forward a bit into the future and I saw Pirates of the Caribbean and actually saw the coast line we passed them on. It dawned on me that was what we had seen that day. One of the coolest moments of my life lol.
I believe the main reason why the trilogy gets no respect. Is because we are living in a world where everyone wants every movie to be a masterpiece and every moment has to shine every five seconds. And if there is just ONE SCENE that feels like filler or drags. It’s automatically going to get an F? 😭 I just don’t understand what people want in movies anymore… you can still skip a couple scenes in a movie if you generally just do not care about them. Even if a scene has a purpose and it’s well executed.. if you honestly just don’t care about what is going on, you can skip it and STILL come out saying the movie is still a masterpiece! People believe movies have to deliver literally everything in every moment for it to be a great film. And that’s TOTAL BS LOL. Dead Mens Chest has a very dumb filler island scene with Jack and Will. Yet the movie is still a masterpiece of clever writing. But people claim this whole movie is bad just because of that island scene.. it’s like how picky can you be?? In the (DARK KNIGHT. I honestly dislike The final act for joker, trying to get those people on both of those boats to convince them to blow each other up. I rather have another Batman and joker dual… I just don’t like the boat scene because it’s just boring as hell for me XD. Yet the Dark Knight is still a masterpiece film. :p I highly suggest to watch this video!! ua-cam.com/video/CWMCrDGEKDY/v-deo.html
POTC has always been my favorite and i actually got to watch the second one in theaters when i was really young and the scene where Davy Jones was playing the organ and when Will tried to get the key scared the living daylights out of me but it made me want to watch them again as i got older and for at least 3 of my birthdays all i did was watch those movies. Sometimes ill watch the first one and as soon as it ends I restart it and ive watched all 3 at least 100 times in my life and I still get so excited watching them and this video gives me the same feels and I want to watch this video on repeat and send it to all my friends. Especially my best friend that hates POTC because of how often I watch it. Im definitely gonna share it with a few friends i know will enjoy it and ill definitely be back to watch this again and again ❤
Youre video is so god damn good, Im am a fan of the trilogy and im 100% agree with you. Watched those 3 over bazillion times, and there is no video on youtube that can express my love for the movies as much as yours, drink up me hearties yo-ho!!!
We need more like u! Respecting 1-3 and give them the respect they deserve. That in 4 and 5 Jack isn't the same anymore like damn you're speaking out of my soul!😊
I just love how we just ignore Stranger Tides and Dead men tell no tales since imo they were a VERY low point in the franchise and focus on the original best Adventure films ever created❤️. ( you could say DMTNT was a conclusion to the original heroes storys but it still dosent come close to the originals ) (and OST was just a different thing all together)
Dead Mans Chest, uses the Empire Strikes Back model... The good guys lose... At the end: Jack is dead (not sure if going to the locker bypasses death, beyond death?), the Pearl is gone, the heart (the whole purpose of this movies' journey) is gone, the crew has been decimated down to 6-8 people... It took the whole happy good vibe feeling of the first movie and turned it on it's head... Yes there is silliness throughout, but the overall feel is a lot heavier...
Even though the first movie is the only one I remember actually watching all the way through, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has always been a memorable part of my childhood.... How? Well, you see I played the Lego game. XD While you were describing the scene with the hallucinations world and the white crabs, I was just thinking "I remember that level. That was a cool level."
3:10 Jack's intellect is beautifully shown in the 'up is down scene'. Lovely scene, when Jack's contemplating the consequences of stabbing the heart and working out how to come back from the locker. And then back to the usual Jack where he starts running like a maniac to rock the ship. This is followed by my favourite qoute of his when he's speaking to Hector next to the carrcas of the Kraken. Hector "The world used to be a bigger place".. Jack: "The world is still the same. There's just less in it".
To this day the CGI is S tier and it introduced me as a teenager to relatively complex story telling giving it rewatch value. World’s end was slow I will admit to this day and even when I first saw it being a fan boy…. But that last hour was probably the best action scene I have ever seen in a film. When the Dutchman rises back up to Zimmer’s Davy Jones theme… I get goosebumps just typing about it. Also on the subject of Zimmer - he created the original score during a single night because he was so desperate to be involved with it but was contractually committed to The Last Samurai and so couldn’t be credited to it in the first movie, but was thereafter. To this day I think the best movie theme of all time and I recommend anyone to see it performed live by a full orchestra before they die. It made me cry out of sheer beauty.
Wow! This video showed up in my recommendations and I'm really impressed by it. Not only am I impressed by the amount of use such a small channel got for this video and you definitely deserve the views and I do believe you deserve more subscribers too at least upon my first impression, but it's amazing how much you said about three films in such a short amount of time. Coincidentally I uploaded a review of the first pirates of the Caribbean that same year that he uploaded this video although it was months later in December. I think you did a much better job of explaining things and thinking outside the box. My one and only criticism and it's constructive is that I personally thought your enthusiasm was a little droning. Kind of sounding like I can tell that you're reading a script, and don't get me wrong sometimes I have a hard time with that myself, but you made some amazing points throughout and everything you said was very well thought out. The only issue was it sounded like a lack of high enthusiasm, at least in my opinion.
I love that there’s not always a clear “good and bad”. I like that the “good” people, Jack, Elizabeth and Will, go behind each others backs, like Elizabeth chaining jack to the pearl so the kraken can kill him, or Jack only helping Will get to Elizabeth because he knew he needed Will to undo the curse. Also the realism, for example Barbosa not caring about the Singaporean lord killing some dude, because he doesn’t know him, so why should he care? Most Disney films would have (at least I think they would have) turned him into a McGuffin or like would have made the crew care about someone they don’t know. And also I like that the “villains” for their motivation, Davy was just some poor guy who was in love with someone and then was cursed, and that turned him into what he was before he died. Barbosa is also just a pirate that was cursed, and wants to kill Jack, no real hard feelings. And then he does turn to the “good” side after Jack dies. Norrington was initially just after Elizabeth, then tried to hunt down jack, and then realized that Elizabeth is more important and sacrificed himself. Everyone is truly just acting in their own best interest, which makes this so fun for me because that makes the movies less predictable in a way. Especially if there’s multiple main characters, since the potential is always there that one of them could die.
Unfortunately, like most trilogies, the first two are great, but the final film underwhelms or underdelivers or tries too hard. I think of The Dark Knight Rises for comparison, but there are plenty of examples. Dead Man's Chest is my favorite.
Thank goodness AWE it’s not one of those. It delivers the best soundtrack, the most beautiful cinematography and the best action set piece in the entire franchise as the final battle 😌
I don’t understand why people would dislike 2 and 3, where every character is really well developed and everyone is chasing his own goal through the the two movies, and that leads to the final battle in AWE. And for the fact that the informations are thrown at your face at the beginning of AWE, it doesn’t feel forced when you just remember the end of DMC, when Norrington gives the heart to Beckett Plus 2 and 3 ´s music is just incredible, one of the best Zimmer’s OSTs
Just rewatched these too and I agree! The maelstrom fight is one of the most impactful scenes I have ever watched. I will never forget being a kid in that theater thinking “ … they’re not gonna fight in that… are they? … no… but they have to!… but it’s impossible… ” but they did! Amazing creativity and experiences I’ll never forget from being a kid. Some sexual innuendos I picked up on rewatch as an adult as well that went over my head when I was little. “Don’t you know Will taught me how to handle a sword?” Haha
As LOTR huge fan the PotC trilogy has a good second place in my heart. Rewatching lotr million times taught me to ask questions, find answers and connect the dots in the story. Rewatching Pirates of the Carribian with that skill was like eating a candy, absolute pleasure of a deep story! Well on the other hand rewatching HP... how do i put it nicely... wasn't a good time 😬😂
I agree with the Curse of the Black Pearl being a masterpiece but I’m not as big of a fan of the other two. I still like them and they’re definitely underrated, but for me they don’t live up to the original. I think that’s because (for me at least) Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End dove too deep too quick into the weirdness where Curse of the Black Pearl was a familiar pirate story with some weirdness, but even the weirdness there felt like something from a traditional pirate story. It’s hard to explain but I hope that makes some semblance of sense.
Thanks for watching! The Curse of the Black Pearl is definitely my favorite as well. It was kind of surreal watching Dead Man's Chest and At World's End because I used to think they were just ok. I still see their faults, but I found them really refreshing because they are so different from the average blockbuster we get today.
I know what you mean. They definitely took inspiration from traditional pirate stories and legends. The flying dutchman, cursed gold, Calypso from Greek Mythology etc.
I've always loved this trilogy and just showed it to my 10 year old son. He loved it too, got into de pirate vibe (he's a one piece fan as well). It's so amazing how a good movie can be part of our lives 😊
Big misconception is that hans zimmer composed the pirates of the Caribbean theme. It was actually Klaus Badelt and was followed up by Hans in the sequels that used the theme more
One of the reason why Geoffrey Rush and Barbosa are some of my favourite things in movie history is because Barbosas accent and mannerisms is very similar to the real like pirate Francis Drake
At the end of the original 300 movie we learn that we were being told the story of the 300 from a survivor. It’s an interesting dynamic. I think “at worlds end” is suppose to be that. An over the top larger than life tale that has underlying truth being told by a silent narrator. I think Barbosa is the unnamed narrator.
Honestly Dead Man's Chest has been my favourite of the three. The story, characters and everything that goes on in it is so interesting to me and the cliffhanger makes it better.
I really like the 4th movie, it's a nice "extra" in the franchise. A good stand alone adventure, the dynamics between Barbossa & Jack are my absolute favorite in that installment. I used to hate "On Stranger Tides" when I was a kid after the giant battle in the third movie. But at least that movie followed the lore and the established canon from the original trilogy. The 5th one... oh boy that was a slap in the face to everything the past movies established. I'm not sure how they can even recover from the last movie, they completely destroyed Jack's character and i'm still not entirely sure why Will suddenly was "cursed" and disfigured.
Man this trilogy was amazing, it’s a shame they never made a 4th or a 5th
lol
Ikrr
Damn. That sucks. I bet if they did they’d be trash
Oh but they did, a 4th and even 5th

I am a firm believer that we will never get an adventure like this again, not especially with current hollywood and disney
nah, there’s an exhaustion with the current sequels and remakes thing. we’re already seeing a swing back to original movies with barbie and oppenheimer. movies will be good again
@@supitschillbro original movies and you say barbie?
@@donb2527 While I have many problems with it I will say it honestly did impress me. Unlike 90% of films these days made by big studios it wasn't trying to be something else. It was a pretty unique movie that combined really good practical sets with fun CGI that wasn't completely overused imo. It was pretty refreshing.
Lord was more epic tho
rewatching these movies is like reliving my childhood. i forgot about that sense of wonder and adventure these movies gave me growing up.
I straight up didn’t know back to the future was a trilogy I didn’t much enjoy back to the future tbh
@theamberheardplaylist6768 It’s amazing how your channel has been trying to protect Amber Heard for several years, even after her “phenomenal” performance in court. please wake up and face the truth, she is a liar and an abuser
That is a pretty dumb excuse lol, 2 and 3 are far to be complex
Dark knight trilogy and lord of the rings are still the top 2 though for me. How to train your dragon also deserves a vote.
@@noyou113add Toy Story and Star Wars to that list
He is stoic and stays true to his morals over 7 movies while the world around him changes
Jack is similar across POTC 2 & 3, the world is getting smaller and pirates are being killed off and prosecuted left, right and centre but Jack stays true to himself and the freedom he promotes as a pirate
It's Jack's ties to other characters that drives the plot which in turn gives character development to the other leads, Will and Elizabeth
Don’t get me started on that cgi. Movies hold up quite well today. Not to mention the expansion of the story. Truly well made. I greatly enjoyed the sequel. One of my favorite sequels in all time next to aliens. Cheers
The critics just had enough of pirates for one movie. Little did they know we’d had our first taste and were hungry for more
I think one thing you missed:
Jack Sparrow is the main character, but it’s Elizabeth’s story.
And this is my favorite Hans Zimmer score, along with the lion king.
there should be a "captain" in there somewhere
When I was a child, I remember being incredibly confused about the fact that they were making more movies after the 3rd one. The 3rd movie had such a solid and bittersweet ending. The newer movies just undermine everything that happens in the 3rd one.
I just pretend they've never existed. Problem solved 😂
To be honest I like 4th part more than 3rd one, why do people hate it so much?
Will and Elizabeth had such chemistry. That final scene on the beach has more soul in it than 99.9% of all romances ever shot on camera.
This triology is amazing. Just watched at worlds end again. The constant backstabbing and plot twists is so good, but by the end, even though every character betrays every other character at some point, they all end up aligning in the end. Its just super pleasing to watch.
Pirates ...
bloody pirates
Right I’ve alwyas loved them. Dead man’s chest was always my favorite

So it would seem...
@@GrayGamer The 4th movie is good as it's own movie. As a story, and plot, it's well done, what messes it up is it's connection to already incredible trilogy.

the kraken is actually half practical, which really makes you feel the impact. all the destruction is also 100% practical, and if I remember correctly, the kraken mouth is half practical, but they cgi over it because it actually looked unrealistic ironically enough

12:00 the purgatory stuff really has the ability to stick because of its uniqueness. From the first time I saw it the year of release, until today it’s always been one of the first things I think about when discussing POtC
Davy Jones CGI is still one of the best to this date.
" 10 years, I devoted to the duty you charged me. 10 years I looked after those who died at see, and finally, when we could be together again, you weren't there. Why weren't you there? "

No one can change my mind, At Worlds End is perfection. The visuals, story, everything is amazing. Not to mention the score 1000/10, thank you Hans
Don't forget about how well it still holds up a decade later!
Zimmer is overrated
I love how jack can escape anything but look like know what doing all time 😂😂
I think Dead Man's Chest is frustratingly close to being among the best movie sequels, but is pulled down by the cannibal island sequence which is not only unimportant to the plot but also contains the movie's most cartoonish moments. I think the rest of the film is fantastic though. At World's End is more uneven, but there's so much to love about it as well.
The canibal islad is my aboslutely favorite sequence from the whole movie 😂

As a life long fan of the POTC trilogy I wanted to thank you for making this
This trilogy is so underrated.
when Will challenging Davy Jones.
Davy Jones asks him how do you know about the key?
Will replies and says, that's NOT part of the game is it? 😏 You can STILL walk away!! 😏
As for pirates 4/5 they are not even Canon they are filler movies. The story ended at worlds end! ☠️
(Part 2) Dead man’s chest has a very simple plot..
That’s why I rank 2>3>1 ☠️☠️☠️
(Part 3) I’m sorry to break it to you but the curse of the Black Pearl is my least favorite in the trilogy.
That literally makes no sense…
You have to mess with Jack sparrow to be caught in his illusion of doubtfulness so he can be the superior person in the situation and also getting out of a dangerous situation. He literally pulls you in as a fool because people were messing with them. Like come on?! 😂
Damn
Not to mention, 3 had the best film score.
Please give credit where it’s due:
Klaus Badelt’s theme.
Introduction of
Davy Jones: one of the best villains in cinematic history imo,
Tia Dalma: I love her portrayal so much, such a fun character to witness,
The Kraken: no explanation needed
Beckett: underrated character
Awesome music
Awesome CGI that still holds up to this day
The hilarious island scene with the wheel and Kebab Sparrow 😅
What more do we want?
dead mans chest will forever be one of my favorite movie
I’m glad you didn’t mention the last two movies lol
This video was perfect! You really pointed out the important points which make these movies/this story so great!
The Elizabeth & Will cameo at the end of film 4 or 5 or whatever IS HOW YOU DO A CAMEO! I wasn’t expecting it & it was Wonderful ❤❤❤
5:02 beautiful job to whoever edited this
Thank you, I feel the same way. I’m glad you are trying to educate people on the greatness of PoTC
So glad I'm not alone in this opinion, the whole trilogy blows me away. Cinematography, score, humor, plot and characters are all top notch.
I highly suggest to watch this video!! ua-cam.com/video/CWMCrDGEKDY/v-deo.html
Those 2 guards stole the show
POTC has always been my favorite and i actually got to watch the second one in theaters when i was really young and the scene where Davy Jones was playing the organ and when Will tried to get the key scared the living daylights out of me but it made me want to watch them again as i got older and for at least 3 of my birthdays all i did was watch those movies.
2:41 this a great video essay but I've never heard the word "wagon" pronounced like that
Shhhhh He’s a Canadian 😂
Don’t make him feel bad about it though
Great job on the video!!!
That guy got hit in the head with a coconut! 😂
Thank you so much for reminding me just how top-notch this stuff really was. It seems so easy to forget how I grew up with this
best films ever
Dead Mans Chest, uses the Empire Strikes Back model...
The good guys lose...
At the end:
Jack is dead (not sure if going to the locker bypasses death, beyond death?),
the Pearl is gone,
the heart (the whole purpose of this movies' journey) is gone,
the crew has been decimated down to 6-8 people...
XD
While you were describing the scene with the hallucinations world and the white crabs, I was just thinking "I remember that level. That was a cool level."
I mean, if there ever was a Pirate that could sail a ship through a dessert, it would be Captain Jack Sparrow
I died when patrick came up 😂😂😂😂😂😂
3:10 Jack's intellect is beautifully shown in the 'up is down scene'.
Alternative title: potc trilogy is incredibly successful, and loved by basicly EVERYONE, SO ABVIOUSLY IT IS NOT "UNDERRATED".
Underrated? Mate whole world rooted for captain jack during his trial. Everyone loves the trilogy.
Look at the pieces of manure Nostalgia Crítica he made “reviewing” these movies and you tell me again everyone loved these movies.
The editing in this video is hilarious
weagen
The only issue was it sounded like a lack of high enthusiasm, at least in my opinion.
underrated? u kidding me? 😂
In terms of critical acclaim it really is
I love that there’s not always a clear “good and bad”.
And for the fact that the informations are thrown at your face at the beginning of AWE, it doesn’t feel forced when you just remember the end of DMC, when Norrington gives the heart to Beckett
Plus 2 and 3 ´s music is just incredible, one of the best Zimmer’s OSTs
What are your thoughts on the last 2 sequels?
Well on the other hand rewatching HP... how do i put it nicely... wasn't a good time 😬😂
I’ve always said this and no one was onboard. Thanks for co-signing that for me
I agree with the Curse of the Black Pearl being a masterpiece but I’m not as big of a fan of the other two.
Ill bike one mile every like this comment gets 😢
Big misconception is that hans zimmer composed the pirates of the Caribbean theme. It was actually Klaus Badelt and was followed up by Hans in the sequels that used the theme more
this trilogy would be perfect if the second and third films were like 30-50 minutes shorter
longer*
@@Crimsrn another terraria enthusiast nice.... anyway youre sadistic
@@ozthebeeman nah they are so good i get sad when they end
@@Crimsrn i know i was memeing. i can respect that but for me i genuinely think these movies are close to perfection and just need to be shorter
Amazing video essay, always loved these movies. You definitely deserve more than 700 subscribers
