very cool, i just got this game and haven't had a chance to play with a group yet. This solo variant looks like a good way to learn the rules and help to explain them once you get a group going.
Thank you, I wish people were more supportive when I was doing these videos. However, I'm deep in the development of my own card game that should be out very soon. Here is some gameplay of the co-op variant: ua-cam.com/video/uu1GDBH6zN4/v-deo.html
Nice, watching you gave me a primer on the game which I then played this scenario solo TTS. Hopefully I got most of it right. That Police dispatcher character ended up being the MVP, looting the station.
@@ZeroBudgetGeek There is now the stand alone expansion and "Warring Colonies" set which combines the 2. It's an option but try before you buy. The biggest issues with in my experience were that the set up and tear down time was ridiculously long (that was with 3 or 4 people doing it). I mean, you have to go through various Crossroads decks and pull out so many specific cards. Also, it means there's now 3 different rule books to search through when there's a dispute... even then, some things went unanswered. Also, the conflict resolution and general interaction was lack luster. Don't get me wrong, I love the base game and "The Long Night". I just feel that "Warring Colonies" missed the mark. Maybe if they sold a set that has the parts from the other sets which go in to "Warring Colonies" so you don't need to dig through 3 different boxes to get the pieces and then replace them after. Same deal with a single rulebook instead of 3... also, a little more work on the interaction between the rival colonies.
This variant uses the Hardcore side. "Accumulate 4 zombies on this objective for each player that started the game." This variant also has us count as if there were 2 players. The variant rules are linked in the description box.
Maybe one day if I'm able to rebuild a recording studio. I wish people were more supportive when I was doing these videos. It has been disheartening to feel that I was putting in a lot of effort but that no one really cared about the content. Maybe I'll go back to it one day. However, I'm deep in the development of my own card game that should be out very soon. Here is some gameplay of the co-op variant: ua-cam.com/video/uu1GDBH6zN4/v-deo.html
Namita Kalita It’s called Animus: The draft building card game. The base game is a 2 players versus game in which you draft 9 card to form a deck. Every single card is a unique character with an ability none of the others have. The expansion introduces co-op play where the players team up again an evil Nemesis and it’s minions. I’ve made several videos showing the co-op mode and all the core and expansion sets will all be released at once! Tons of content and infinitely replay able since every game plays out differently.

+apollonia I think the book has a fully cooperative variant that can be played solo but it isn't very fun. Try the solo variant I played in this episode; you can find the link in the video description.
Can you please play 'dead of winter: the long night too'? I am a very big fan of this game and if you play this stand-alone expansion, I will certainly get a idea about playing the game... Please...
Doubtful. I don't own the game and I'm deep in the development of my own card game that should be out very soon. Here is some gameplay of the co-op variant: ua-cam.com/video/uu1GDBH6zN4/v-deo.html
Can you tell what time stamp of the video you’re referring to? Perhaps Mike had something equipped or under an effect that let him do that. It’s also possible that I just made a mistake and forgot to do it.
Zero Budget Geek 8:40 search and you spend a die 9:49 search again and you again spend a die 10:15 search again and you again spend a die ... When i make noise? in case you want to look for two cards, I spend one die but then I look for another without spending, but I want to keep the two cards, I have to spend two dice?
It's been a long time since I've played but here are the Search Rules directly from the Rulebook: Search: A player can search at any location except the colony. To perform a search, a player must choose a survivor he controls and spend an action die equal to or higher than the search value of that survivor. He may then draw 1 card from the item deck of the location that survivor is on, looking at it but not yet adding it to his hand. He may then choose to either:
• add that card to his hand and end his search action, or • make noise by placing a noise token on an empty noise space at his location to draw and look at an additional card. He may draw additional cards as long as there are still empty noise spaces for the corresponding noise tokens. When the player has decided he has made enough noise or can no longer make any more noise, he must keep 1 of the drawn cards, adding it to his hand, and place the rest on the bottom of that item deck. A player may search multiple times with the same survivor in a single turn. An action die equal to or higher than the search value of that survivor must be spent each time that survivor searches.
Well I was searching at the police station because that location tends to have good weapons which will help us kill zombies so that we can complete the scenario goal.
thought the rules stated that if you find equipment it goes on the character who found it, and then if they share a space with another they can give/trade it. the player keeps on hand consumable items (food/junk/meds/gas) books, blue prints, weapons, gear go on the character that finds them and then they trade them.
Nah I think you put it into your hand and then equip it to a survivor. However after equipping the item, you cannot take it off and put it in your hand to give to another survivor; the survivor with the item equipped must share a space with another survivor so they can *Hand off* the item to that survivor (that survivor immediately equips the item that was handed off.) People thought the same thing for normal items (where the survivor searched places and couldn't put food in the colony until they returned for example) but that set of rules was too complicated, too perilous and made it less fun.
Hi. Nice video btw. I write about solo variants of multiplayer and co-op games on BSoMT bothsidesofmytable.com/ so this caught my eye. You mentioned it being difficult to use crossroad cards in this mode...I wondered if the companion app would help here? I use it when I play solo. It reads cards out (from its own random draw) and doesn’t reveal the text of each card option until you make your choice. Might be worth having a look at. Dead of Winter is on my “to do” list in the next couple of months...would you mind me linking this video to the review? Cheers, Giles
Curious why you are using the secret objective? Kind of doesn't make sense in a solo game. If you look at co-op rules - and I'd have to argue you are playing cooperatively with yourself :-) - you don't use them.
This isn't being played by the co-op rules in the book as people found that way to play a bit too easy. In the description box of the video I have a link to the solo rules someone came up with. The Secret Objective is used simply to give an extra layer of objectives and difficulty to a solo game.
Same as the regular game. You don't use a betrayal card. But if you are a junkie and have to hoard medicine but also contribute to the main objective or crisis then you are torn ... just like the regular game. You have to complete both to win.
This is a perfect playthrough. It's ridiculously hard to find GOOD footage of this game. Thank you.

Thanks for watching, I’m glad it was helpful to you!
The Janitor and Doctor were vital to your success...
+Amazing I agree, thank you for watching!
great lets play it makes you learn the game
9:28 you didn’t add noise tokens for firing a gun in non-colony location.
Daniel Rich Must have forgotten. Thanks for watching and pointing the error out.
What would you adjust if you were to have two copies of "Dead of Winter" and combined both?
+YourFavoriteTroll I would adjust my wallet by selling one of them! I see no point in combining the sets. Did you have some idea?

you say the main objective needs 8 but it actually needs 1 for every player which is 4 zombie symbols in total for single player

Would this work for the long night expansion with all the modules played?
I have not played The Long Night so I'm not sure if it works for that. Sorry.
Could you please make a solo playthrough again. I really love this game... Please... 😁😁
