Man, it's really interesting seeing how playing the game on autopilot really mimicks what Sif might be going through - "I thought I had the sharpening stone! Oh wait, that was a loop ago, then I walked into a tear and looped back, walked on autopilot and didn't even realise I didn't pick up the stone... Lucky me I guess...". I wonder how much lower Sif will sink in his feelings after that bathroom scene...
Really enjoyed that higher level conversation about nihilism at the end. I am of the opinion that this game is fundamentally empathetic and kind first and foremost, and that it largely uses these nihilistic thoughts as a means to explore that, but a lot of the game really pushes you to the limits to make you deeply question why you should care. It's hard to care about smaller scale things that seem "less important" when being constantly reminded of the bigger picture. But just because something or someone isn't important to the broader universe doesn't mean it can't be important to you.
I had this like aversion to using tears or skipping forward or backwards and things like that, like Sif needed to hold onto the meaning of each loop, so I'd have to do like an entire family quests and go through the whole house. And it took forever but it felt right for the weird way I decided to make Sif cope with the horrible situation.
Man this episode was heartbreaking and not for a specific event, just the energy made me feel so emotionally tired, man! Also, don't forget to continue the quest with mirabelles statue when you can!
45:56 I get Sif thoughts here they are totally reasonable, but also Sif hasn't even tried to share about the loop with anyone you know, so it isn't fault of the others for acting like nothing is wrong Sure sharing it won't actually solve the problem and next loop the others would act the same but at least trying to reveal it once at this point could be liberating and healthy for Sif
Sure but also at this point Sif is hardly rational. His default is avoidance and bottling up his emotions, and it takes work/energy to move past that which he probably doesn’t have right now.
When you get the keyknife again, it might be good to check on that change god statue again afterward, just to finish off that questline. Very excited for the next episode! Love watching you guys play and react to this game !!!
8:53 I love that even after all the alienation, Siffrin still cares deeply for his family. This scene is awesome. And even more awesome is how he completely misses the point of his friendship scene with Bonnie. He shouldn't be promising to risk himself. That's how he lost his eye ^^ 20:11 This is so good. Every new scene is just as good at the last. I hate antimemetics x24 combobob! 23:02 "Hey bro was it a triangle?" "Nah man it wasn't". "What was it then?" "Uhhhhhhh.... What was what?" 24:56 *HEARTBEAT* 24:57 I didn't know you could get it here this early 29:45 *HEARTBEAT* x2 combo! 38:07 Better than a purple and red giant body frozen in space, I suppose 38:34 For a more thorough examination of pictures frozen in time, proof of events and the deep thanatophobia and death horror it provoked, please consult a free copy of The Camera Lucida by Roland Barthes. It's a light read, but it's mandatory for any photographer and for most semiotics students. Even if it's semiotic theory is a bit out of date, it's amazing to read. Makes photographs feel even more special 46:04 Siffrin's resolve is tested...! 46:18 *Aibyusive!* _stress symbol intensifies_ 56:11 Good discussion. You are doing great. I love this playthrough so much. I will refrain from explaining my branch of existentialism and humanism here for size XD
56:05 Really like the talk about the themes of the game, the story of the game is really really good so far, does depends on its conclusion to know if it goes in the "games with a masterpiece story"
I loved your conversation about this game's themes at the end! And while I was listening I realized that I think the scene with Sif and Bonnie way back at 7:51 is kind of a microcosm of those themes. Because on one hand, yes, that scene was incredibly sweet and the two of them made this genuine connection, but also... no they didn't?? No it wasn't?? Zooming out I genuinely believe that conversation changed nothing about Sif and Bonnie's dynamic, even in that present moment, and not just because Siffrin is looping. On Sif's side what you fundamentally have is him telling Bonnie he won't let anything happen to them even though a) Nothing *can* happen to them, Sif is stuck in a time loop but more importantly b) The entire point of Bonnie and Sif's Doormont event is that in Bonnie's opinion Sif sticks their head out too far to protect his friends by himself. It's why he lost his eye. This is the *last* thing Bonnie wants to be hearing and Sif should know that!! The promise is genuine, yes, it's Siffrin's whole goal, but it's also *just* Siffrin, so tired, openly admitting they're stuck in a time loop but hiding that pain to frame it in the most positive way possible, digging an even bigger pit for himself of handling everything on his own. You can see it in the resigned way Bonnie accepts that promise. Then, on Bonnie's side, their promise is one they know they can't keep - and they don't know that we know that but we *do* know that. We know that because the scene where Bonnie actually becomes capable of defending us in battle is the scene you *can't do* in order for this scene to happen. This promise is only made in worlds where Bonnie is physically incapable of following through on it. We know they feel guilt about that. We know it's why their relationship with Sif is strained in the first place. Now, there's just more pressure, and more of Bonnie knowing Sif is going to do everything himself, and more being unable to do anything about it, and a bunch of empty words. Sif refuses to see any of that. He refused to see it in Bonnie's doormont event, he did it when he lost his eye, and in that scene he's refusing again. Nothing betwen them has changes. Arguably, it's just a more intense version of the same dynamic. Heck, The Memory of Promise just makes Bonnie buffs everyone in battle. It isn't even a bonus to heal. It makes *you* defend *them* better. Yet it's a memory Siffrin never forgets, and while I'm not sure if the smiles they share are real or fake the fact remains they both confidently smile at each other. There's a feeling of motivation. They share an emotional moment. They share a commitment to one another. Siffrin is vulnerable, whether that vulnrable moment is him talking about how adults are stupid or if it's the time loop speech - even if in the latter cas it's impossible for Bonnie to notice. It matters. It didn't change anything. I have no idea what to think about it. Good writing, I think is what I think. Good writing! This game, man
Sweating because I'm caught up now and also watching this game blind so now I'm torn between wanting to find a complete playthrough to see the rest immediately and wanting to wait because I love experiencing it with you guys 😭
So i just caught up with this series after meaning to for as long as you’ve been posting it and i am now slightly obsessed cant wait for the the next episode!
(I have not played this game before) My thought process about the Head Housemaiden is that they especially called out that she was 'tall' when they first saw her. Is there any chance the Head Housmaiden is also from the missing island kingdom? This could explain why Siffrin or the King are here in the first place. My way out there theory is that the King is here to undergo a Change or maybe to retrieve Siffrin.
Not everyone from that country is tall. Sif is shorter than Mira, Isa, and Odile, for instance. I'm not discounting your theory regarding the Head Housemaiden, to be clear, I think there are other reasons to be skeptical about whether she is from there - for example, the fact that she seems to feel like she's responsible for what's happening to Siffrin.
I like where you’re going with this theory but I think her nearly white colored hair is more evident of her possibly being from there than her height, because we’ve only seen sif, the king and her with white colored hair I think. That combined with how curly her hair is and her tanned skin, both of which are traits mirabelle who is from dormont has, may mean she’s not necessarily from there, but instead has a parent from the missing country or something? I’m not entirely sure
While a cool idea, I think another thing that makes this unlikely is that Siffrin makes no mention of the Head Housemaiden's accent. If she were to be directly from the island she would have a unique accent.
Just finished this game - it’s very good. I used a guide to do some stuff before the point of no return but didn’t 100% it. I think I’ve done enough to be happy with my experience though. Definitely teared up a bit at the end.

“This never gets old”,
Oh you didn’t just say that in THIS game!
Ouchhhh :')
37:26 “we can cut away and jump back to one of the dead ends”
The ad soon after saying that: *”so…. Everyone’s dead”*

That honestly feels more like torture
That bathroom scene is so painful wtff. i wonder how many different dialogues you can get there
There are *A LOT* of different bathroom scenes. It's actually kinda hard to get them all.
Many. I assume most are permanently missable. Maybe there's a video about all of them
Man this episode was heartbreaking and not for a specific event, just the energy made me feel so emotionally tired, man!

I thought I had seen all the hidden bathroom monologues but nope- that one was completely new to me. Love your playthrough!
If you find a video with all of them I'd love it if you shared
WE ARE SO BACK
I am SO EXCITED for next episode!
(i say this each time this series updates, but more intensely every episode)
well this is a pleasant suprise!
