  • Enjoy this random bit of b-roll and some ramblings about placeholders in life. I still haven't quite fully worked through this topic yet so I'm not sure if it entirely makes sense/if the analogy holds up, but just wanted to think out loud for this one. In essence though, it's just questioning whether or not you have settled.

I like how you articulate your train of thoughts, and also the way you arrange the shots to compliment the ideas. Inspiring.

Valid philosophical advice. Looking around I am seeing a lot of placeholders that have been standing in for final assets. That is how life do, sometimes.

Love to hear that this applies to you too and agreed that that's just how things are sometimes :)

Man, this was really thought provoking for me.
In all honesty, I watched this video when it first came out. When the video was done, despite the fact that I wanted to reply, I wasn’t really sure if I could reply as fully as I would’ve wanted to given the depth of the idea and presentation. So, I closed out the app and began my who-knows-how-long-it’s-been journey to really reflect on this concept within my own life.
In those silences and gaps of daily routine, I would ponder about it all. Do I have place holders within my life? What are they? It’s been really busy for me recently so I would frequently find myself unable to get to any concrete conclusion before needing to go and do another thing.
And now here I am, many days later and finally with some extra space and time to just let my thoughts flow.
It’s shocking to think of placeholders within our lives. The notion that there are things and actions that are put in place to make life function (for now) until one has the means to replace it with what we actually want there… was almost haunting… chilling… yet completely understandable - especially after your metaphor of video editing to illustrate the idea.
In the context of living life itself, it seems almost unfair and unkind to think of placeholders there. Seconds, minutes, and hours of our lives are disappearing as we speak and breathe. There is no placeholder for that - for living… for the moments we are allowing ourselves to live and be present.
And while we can’t have a placeholder for life itself being lived, perhaps we can think of placeholders for processes we know we’ll want to continue repeating: What’s needed (for improvement) and what’s simply a “materialistic chase”.
Improvement is, when I think of it, a journey of constantly replacing placeholders. There’s also the idea that what you don’t actively work on improving, deteriorates - a concept that doesn’t exist within video editing fortunately (or does it within the perspective of continued improvement in camera technology?)…
    Gah…
Perhaps it’s better to keep this concept simple. My brain is getting fried.
Gonna leave this post here, maybe as a bookmark… maybe as a placeholder, lol. But ultimately, it’s a hello and that I enjoyed your video and thought.
