They was KILLIN' it in the studio back then for this song. This is one of the most memorable things from the N64 days to me.

I played this game in my day-care center roughly 20 years ago. A bunch of fellow day-care friends I danced and sang to this song. We played the intro of the game on repeat (by turning the console off and on) to learn the words and the moves. Each of us pretended to be a different Kong and had our own parts. Everyone in the day-care, teachers/aides included, gathered one fateful day in front of the TV so we could perform.

That's so awesome. I wish mine did that. I clapped to the beat, that's about it. If anyone else clapped/sang along then they were too far for me to be sure. Most of the people were too young to remember the DK Rap, though a couple kids did sing along to Peaches.

Hell is a destination
From the moment I heard the first beat of this song, my heart JUMPED! I knew exactly what was going to happen before it did. DK64 is perhaps one of my favorite Nintendo games, and I almost cried with joy seeing this wonderful song used in the movie to introduce Donkey Kong. I thought they were just going to just use a remixed version of some song from Donkey Kong Country to introduce DK, but no. They chose the best song they could have ever used to introduce the big ape himself. Seeing Donkey Kong show off during the song made it all better too. Definetly the most in-character thing I have ever seen come from Donkey Kong in any media. Honestly, Donkey Kong was probably my favorite character in the movie and definetly the one character that I was the most excited to see in this movie and I gotta say, they delivered fairly well.
God oh please! Let us have a Donkey Kong Country movie after this! If the rumors are true and Seth Rogen will return to voice Donkey Kong in a solo film, then oh man I can't wait to see how they handle him. He was already good enough as a supporting character in this movie, but then seeing him as the main star of his own adventure on the big screen? Yes oh yes!
Oh and a little sidenote. Please let Diddy have more screentime next time. I feel like Diddy (and Dixie too) was done dirty in the movie by having him show up as a two second cameo instead of having him tag along with DK in the kart race or the final battle with Bowser. But at the same time I feel like DK and Diddy might've stolen the show from the real main stars Mario and Luigi, or they probably wouldn't have had enough time to develop their characters, so maybe it was for the best that Diddy took a back seat for that movie. Also, the Chunky cameo also made me jump with joy (I also hope we get to see the DK64 Kongs Chunky, Lanky, and Tiny soon in the future).
I hope we get that animated Donkey Kong Country movie and we get to see all of the Kongs in their full glory. This movie gave me a lot of hope, and I hope they greatly deliver.
I think you're right about them maybe stealing the attention. The kart race was a fast-moving scene, a lot to keep track of, so it seems easiest to focus on the main four (Mario, Peach, DK, Toad) in the kart sequence. Plus Cranky and the blue Koopa. I think Diddy, Dixie, Chunky were being treated sort of as family/spectators who were not going as part of the official Kong Army.

Chunky and Donkey actually. DK has bongo drums for his instrument, and I think trumpets are a better fit for him in both the rap and the tag barrel, which is where the game uses trumpets for Donkey Kong. Same for steel drums with Chunky.
