Last Epoch is an impressive, time-bending action RPG that combines rich customization with modern action. In the mechanical sense, it serves as an important stepping stone between Diablo and Path of Exile - but even without making direct comparisons, it competently stands on its own merits thanks to a flurry of unique, intertwining systems and a strong endgame that make it difficult to resist pouring an entire weekend into its endless loops. Just don’t let its poorly told story or the handful of bugs that have yet to be squashed discourage you from seeing this adventure through to the end of time.

It's really a shame that reviewer doesn't even mention the skill tree variability, where every skill has it's own tree.

Indeed! Been playing on my Steam Deck way before 1.0 was released. Controller support and all is much better now! Works perfectly for me and been enjoying it.

It's a valid pronunciation, dude. It depends on where you are from. Most people in England, Australia and Canada, pronounce it the way the reviewer does, for example.
To be fair, and though the word stems from Greek, it probably arrived in the English vernacular via French. And in French, it's pronounced in a pretty much similar manner as the reviewer here pronounces it, "époque".

@@RaphaSupremeFirst ARPG? You know it wasn’t Diablo right? The genre has long roots. If you’re talking about this specific type of ARPG, which started in Diablo 1/2, then what’s the issue? You don’t play a shooter and complain that it’s a shooter?
It’s innovative in a lot of ways, and is easily the best in the genre right up there with Path of Exile.
Diehard ARPG fans will give this game a 0/10 until they fix the bug that has prevented binding the left mouse button since launch, only then will they consider giving it a real score. I'm not fighting against 25 years of muscle memory.

Does this game have town hubs where you can see other players like diablo 4 does? Or see random ayers through out the world?
yes, it have town hubs and u can see random players there, but u cant see random ppl outside of those towns

This review doesn't talk about the Merchant's Guild or Circle of Fortune? I'd argue it's one of the most important things to talk about for a gameplay review, especially since it's something no other games in its genre has ever attempted to tackle. Most of everything else is agreeable tho, as someone who has 180 hours played in it.
Anyone having trouble syncing DS4 controller to Last Epoch? cant get move/interact off the mouse. Might just wait for a console release >.>
"some technical clunkiness" aka the game has bugs that make it feel like youre playing an early access title, and the server issues won't even allow you to get into the actual co-op portion of this game in the online servers. It's only playable in offline mode currently 6 days after release and servers went down before 1.0 even launched. Try checking out "No Rest for the Wicked" in the meantime while you wait for this game to get fixed.
Part of the fun for me playing a Necro is never having to use a potion......Will be interesting to see the lifespan of this Vs D4. I'm was a Massive Diablo fan, but Last Epoch is simply more fun

D4 is already pretty much dead, what lifespan lmao. They already roll out seasons like in D3 without any content. Basically there is nothing to do in D4 after finishing campaign.

The new classes like warlock and falconer are a tad OP though. Minions are also quite cheese. Other than that, having a great time so far.

No Jokes, is this review AI voiced? It literally sounds like the reviewer has ported his voice into the descript AI and let the AI voice his review. Especially the pronunciation sounds extremly weird

Sick game but if you plan to play with a controller I'd hold off a couple months. The game and it's menus are very rusty around the edges.
Been playing most last night on controller and it's great, only inventory management is a bit slower, otherwise better than PoE controller support for me.

Last epoch vs Poe?
Both games offer crazy amount of customizations and variety, but for me somehow Last Epoch was easier to understand / more accessible, and everything about if felt just right and gave me more fun, meanwhile PoE felt sometimes exhausting.
It makes me feel way better about Diablo 4 being a grindy borefest,Last Epoch got loot to find,things to farm and upgrade and skill trees that focous on your skills and getting new abilitys but needing to choose,and tactics! instead of buffs to stamina and strenght,in some dull paragon point thingy.

To be fair, the story/narrative in general is very meh, but this isn’t the type of game you play for the story.
This will keep me busy until the new Titan Quest comes out!

Agreed, it's absurd that portalling out and back in resets the entire map. Makes 0 sense. That and server issues aside, the game is great.
If the problems continue for 1-2 days more , people will start leaving or refund the game and its a shame because is the best arpg right now , way better than d4 and POE
The playercount peaked at 227k players 2 hours ago, its only been going up despite the hiccups. Even then, alot of players are just playing offline untill the servers stabilize.
Let them leave if they dont have patience, this is an indie studio, let them solve it they are doing it, they released 2gb patch today too, im currently playing offline and bought the game 3 years ago

it is somewhat true but u literally have to know exactly what u r doing. achive level 100 in 12 hours for newbie is impossible tho, it is more like 2 days

The way this guy pronounces Epoch is a perfect example of lack of physical communication these days, he's only had to type out that word and probably has never used it or heard of it before the games release

Because d4 is terrible. If you're gonna play diablo then go to the second one. Poe and last epoch are head and shoulders above d4. D4 has a long way to go to catch up.

Servers are the worse ever, it´s imposible to play unless you wait 2h. Even if when you finally can actually play the game, it takes waaaay to long to load between zones.
I'll take Grim Dawn any day of the week. A true masterpiece.

Reviewing an ARPG after one week of release is like reviewing a marathon race after taking 10 steps.
Instead of watching this review, let me tell you in a concise manner why you should play and why you should wait.
Play: lots of depth/complexity wrapped up in a simple package with a lot of QoL, no time wasting, amazing combat, and a hard last part of the campaign/end game. Crafting/itemization/skill trees/trading is all amazing. Stash tabs are bought with in-game currency, no P2W/convenience options, cheap cost.
Wait: servers are terrible currently, and while they’ve gotten better, they still have a lot of issues (especially EUW). There is also some bugs that are quite annoying.
The campaign is unfinished. Missing three chapters.

Well deserved. They were reviewing what the game was on June 1st. Terrific Campaign. Gameplay, Combat, Art design, Sound design. Graphics and Stable Servers. =9 out of 10. Maybe should have even been a 9.5 or 10 out of 10.

Costs half of Diablo4's price and plays 10 times better with no mtx. Supports multiple builds and does not want to punish you for respeccing a character. The true competitor for POE and POE 2.
The fun thing is, that in D3 everyoe talked about how bad it is to not punish a player for wrong skill tree decisions. Then D4 comes and everyone complains about the opposite. 😂
